Jude 1:22
And have mercy on those who waver; NET
“But God said such people should be handed over to Satan. Felix
has brought shame the church by what he has done; we should disgrace him in
church publicly because he doesn't even deserve our prayers anymore. This is
what pastor Segun told the senior pastor when it was discovered that the choir
master was having an inappropriate relationship with a sister in the choir. The
senior pastor hesitated.
Many Christians are very judgmental when they hear about some
other Christian who has fallen into a ‘bogus’ sin. They don't even give her the opportunity of doubt but would rather believe the worst concerning their
Christian brother or sister. This should not be so. Christians are not even to
take each other to court because we are brothers (see 1 Cor 6:1). Do you take
your brother at home or mother to court because she has wronged you? Do you
publish and spread embarrassing news about your siblings at home when they fail?
Why then do we delight in spreading negative news about our Christian brethren?
Don’t you know that what binds us together as Christians is stronger than any
family tie of flesh and blood?
From today’s Bible text, we can see that God wants us to have
mercy on those who waver. Mercy considers the other person and says ‘how would I
want to be treated if I were the one in his/her situation?
Go into today determined to be loving and merciful like your
father in heaven.
Prayer: heavenly father, I thank you for saving me and making
me your own. I pray you help me to truly be merciful and just, in Jesus name I
pray. Amen.
