Acts 2:42
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. [KJV]
I was watching a pile of woods burn. The fire was great and effectual. I observed that when one wood was pulled out of the pile, the fire on that wood would quench after a while, and the wood would eventually run out of heat altogether.
When Christians fellowship together, they bring their individual fires together and help each other stay on fire for Christ. Many Christians have fallen because they isolated themselves from true brethren.
We can see from today's Bible text that one of the pillars of the first church was fellowship. There is no Christian church without Christian fellowship and such fellowship does not exist without brotherly love (true affection for each other and concern for the welfare of each other).
The church is not a place for anonymity; it is a place for fellowship. There are things church leadership could consciously do to develop friendship among church members.
Sharing what you have with those that do not have and doing so in a manner that does not diminish the dignity of the person receiving is part of Christian fellowship.
Go into today knowing that as a member of God's church, you are to do everything within your power to keep the bond of peace and avoid all forms of misunderstandings and quarrels with your brethren because such is not pleasing to the Lord ( see Eph 4:3).
Prayer: thank the Lord for making you a Christian. Ask the Lord to bless you so that you can help brethren in need. Ask the Lord to empower you to cultivate and maintain true fellowship and friendship with your brethren. Amen.
