1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. [KJV]
First, what is a controversy? A controversy is a prolonged public debate or disputation concerning a matter of opinion. In our main scripture today, we are told that there is no controversy on the matter of Christ's divinity. Meaning that the subject is not for the public to debate. And the scripture went on to tell us what the matter is- a great mystery. So what is a mystery?
A mystery is anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown. A mystery remains unknown for as long as it is unexplained by the few that keep it secret. Understanding the mysteries of God comes by revelation through faith.
For instance, while the public can debate evolution for as long as they want, we simply believe that God created man and all things as recorded in Scriptures. Hebrews 11:3 says 'Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God...'
The only way to know or fully justify the divinity of Christ, is to be in the Spirit. 1 John 4:2 tells us 'Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God'. This kind of knowledge is the highest kind. It is called 'Epignosis' in Greek. It is accurate and precise knowledge and it comes only by revelation to the one who fears God. (Prov 1:7). This is why being godly remains impossible to anyone who does not understand the mysteries of God through faith.
Pray to God today to reveal Himself more to you and to grant you the faith to believe. Amen.
