Gratitude is the attitude that guarantees a glorious altitude. God's plan for every of His children is the top (Jer. 17:12; 29:11) but we must be grateful all the way. The children of Israel that perished in the wilderness were the generation that murmured and complained even at the verge of inheriting the Promised Land. And they did not enter. A grateful heart opens a life to God's blessings. An ungrateful heart shuts a life out of many blessings.
A little mathematics could help us appreciate gratitude better. It is often said that 'Attitude is everything'. If you number all the 26 letters of the Alphabet, and you add up the numbered letters that make up the word 'Attitude', you will get 100. Take that to be a hundred percent. Now add up the numbers of the word 'Gratitude', you will get 105. Take that to be 100 + 5; a hundred percent with the grace of God on it. The description of our Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 2:40 corroborated this 'And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him'. Being strong in spirit and wisdom is the best attitude in life, how about having the grace of God on top of that? Jesus gave thanks in the face of scarcity (Mat. 15:36) and even death (John 11:41). And a miracle follows each time. That is the grace of God attending a grateful attitude.
Our main Bible text today identifies 'the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you' to be that we be grateful in everything. Gratitude places us at the epicenter of God's will. And when you are in God's will, you are in God's mind always.
Go into this year with a grateful heart. Today, say a 'Thank You, Jesus' at every opportunity.
Ask God to create a grateful heart in you.
