Mat. 4:3-4
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. [KJV]

Temptation is another way the enemy seeks to dislodge God from our minds. He came into Eden and tempted Man. Many times, he would come twisting the words of God. Like when he said to Eve, 'Did God really say...?' (Gen. 3:1). Hence the need to understand and believe God's word. The enemy is so skilled at creating doubts in the believer's heart that the scripture warns 'Let he that thinks he stand take heed, lest he falls' (1 Cor 10:12).
So we are up against an enemy that the Scriptures call 'more subtle than any creature' (Gen. 3:1), 'the tempter' (Mat. 4:3) and 'great deceiver' (Rev. 12:9). That is why we need the whole armor of God to retain the knowledge of God. His tempting strategy is three-dimensional. According to 1 John 2:15-16, the tempter comes through the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
Whenever we overcome temptation, our knowledge of God is not only retained. Our knowledge is enriched.
Go into today with the grace to sense temptations and to avoid them.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from the evil one, in Jesus name. Amen.
