READ Luke 11:24-26“When an unclean spirit goes out of a person, it passes through waterless places looking for rest but not finding any. Then it says, ‘I will return to the home I left.’... [NET]
If a child leaves the house, he knows he can still come back. But if a child is sent out of the house, he knows he cannot come back except he is invited.
Unlike people who use satanic power to deliver people, Jesus was not requesting that demons leave people. He was casting them out with authority, and this was clear to everyone.
If it appears that a false prophet is casting out unclean spirits from people, what he is really doing is to covertly negotiate with the spirits to leave. The unclean spirits would always come back with more wicked spirits because they willfully left and can therefore come back when they want.
I believe this is one proof Jesus was showing to the people who were in doubt about the source of His power to cast out devils (read Luke 11:14-26).
The people must have noticed that unlike others, when Jesus delivers a person, that person is free indeed; he becomes a productive member of the society. But when others (who use demonic power) ‘delivers’ a person, that person is always having to go back to solve a bigger problem.
Notice that the example Jesus gave in today’s Bible text suggests that the demon was the one who left. Jesus did not say ‘if an unclean spirit is cast out of a person’ He said ‘if an unclean spirit leaves a person’.
Go into today remembering that ‘ if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (see John 8:36)
Prayer: Thank the Lord for giving you the power to cast out demons.
