KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM 2

Devotional/YBP Audio Link: http://bit.ly/25vPhht

2 Timothy 3:15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. [KJV]

From when Dare was a little child, he observed how his parents lived. They were professors; excellent academicians. Unknown to him, he had learned wisdom for academic excellence from them. He too grew up to become an excellent academician. For example, having a library in the house and studying there for several hours every day wasn’t a strange concept to him. He grew up seeing his father and mother do this. But his friends who had the same ambition of becoming excellent academicians didn’t have the success he had because they didn’t have the opportunity he had to learn the wisdom that made him so excellent academically.

I don’t know if you have noticed that children of teachers and professors usually do better in academics than others. Children of entrepreneurs and business people also usually do better in business. This really has nothing to do with DNA, it has everything to do with wisdom that was passed on, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

The highest and most important wisdom any man needs in this life is the kind of wisdom talked about in today’s Bible text. This is because it brings about salvation, and if it is properly understood and applied, it brings about prosperity in all areas of life.

The key to this wisdom is knowledge and understanding the word of God.

Go into today deciding to apply your heart to the word of God like a little child. Let the word shape your life, and see how it transforms you positively.

Ask the Lord to give you fresh hunger for His word and His presence.

2 EXCHANGE FOR THE SOUL

Mar 8:37
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [KJV]

What will a man not give in exchange for his life? A certain man took ill and was flown abroad. He later died. What made news was not his death, but how much he paid the hospital abroad to stay alive. Nobody knew he had that huge amount of money anywhere. Whenever a man is faced with survival, he is ready to give anything- no matter how dear- in exchange for his life. Men have traded their faith for their lives. Women have traded their children for their own lives. People have betrayed their friends to keep their own lives. There is a saying common among South West Nigerians 'If pieces of a hot coal fall on both you and your child, you would shake yours off before that of your child'. It makes sense for a man to fight for his life first above all else. But why do men give away their souls so easily? For what is the life without the soul?

In our Bible text for today, the Lord Jesus Christ rated the soul above the life. He said in Mark 8:35-37 'For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?'

So how seriously do you take your soul? Is your soul saved by the Savior Jesus Christ? If that life of yours ends today, what assurance do you have for your soul? How often have you traded your soul for pleasures, riches and the likes? The Lord Jesus paid the price you could never afford for your soul. Do not exchange it for even the whole world.

Go into today with the grace and determination to guard your soul above all else.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask for more grace. Help me never to trade my soul for anything else. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

Proverbs 15:7
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, But the heart of the fool does not do so. (NKJV)

One thing you cannot separate from wisdom is knowledge. One of the ways you know wise people is by checking the way they respond to learning and knowledge. I have seen people who practically despise knowledge. They claim that ‘too much knowledge is dangerous’. They could be right to an extent, but the truth remains that one cannot be wise without paying attention to knowledge.

God did not mince words when saying ‘wisdom is the principal thing’ (see Prov 4:7). Many Christians will not make it, not because they are not sincere but because they have failed to acquire sufficient knowledge that crystallizes wisdom in their hearts. In Matthew 25, the five virgins that made it were called wise virgins, while the ones who did not make it were called foolish. There was a rich man that displeased God so much that God took his life instantly. He was called ‘the rich fool’ (see Luke 12:13-21).

As you go into today, remember to ‘add to your faith virtue, and to virtue KNOWLEDGE (see 2 Peter 1:5)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me add relevant knowledge to my life every day. Please help me to be wise indeed. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

SINGING

Mt 26:30
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives [ESV]

Singing is one of the things God wants us to always do as Christians.
After they had eaten and talked, Jesus and his disciples sang a hymn before leaving for their next destination. When we come together as believers, such singing should not be lacking. Ephesians 5:18-19 makes us understand that being filed with the spirit entails not only singing and making joyful melody in our hearts to the Lord with thanks giving, but excitedly talking to one another in psalms and hymns too. O What Joy!

Singing is an outflow of our spirit. With the inner source of joy resident in our spirit, singing would naturally flow out. This joy is a function of our fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We should never let ourselves get to the point where we are no more excited about the Holy Spirit’s presence within us.

Paul said, I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also (1Cor 14:15). And David said, My heart is ready, God, my heart is ready; I will sing, and make music for you (Ps 57:7). Make every circumstance a singing opportunity. Remember Paul and Silas in prison.

Go into today bearing in mind that the Lord has said in Isa 65:14 “Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart”. Do not let your heart be ever void of thanksgiving, worship and singing to the Lord. This is a secret of being filled with the Spirit at all times.

Prayer: Lord, fill me afresh with your Spirit, that my joy may awake and cause me to sing always in Jesus Name. Make a joyful noise! Not yet saved? Click: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol

WHAT SHOULD I SAY? 2

Devotional/YBP Audio: http://goo.gl/t4SGc4
Isa 40:6
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? [KJV]

A young doctor decided to start sharing the gospel with his patients. But it was easier for him to do so patients who had a Christian background. One day, he had to attend to a very wealthy patient who was a Muslim. She was dying of a terminal disease, and he felt compassion for her. The day he decided to preach to her, he first offered to pray for her. He had planned to use that as a starting point in preaching because he did not know what to say to her. Even though she knew he was a Christian, She was happy when he offered to pray for her. As he began to pray, he felt led to pray in tongues and did so for about 2 minutes. At the end of the prayer, the woman asked him where he learned to speak fluent Arabic. He responded that he didn’t know any word in Arabic. Her mother was an Arab so she understood Arabic perfectly. She told him that he said she would receive her healing after she accepts Christ into her life. He apparently did not know the meaning of what he was saying when he prayed in tongues. In fact, he didn’t pray in any special tongue that sounded different to him, he just prayed in tongues the normal way he always did.

This was a sign to the woman that made her believe in the Lord Jesus. She later received her miraculous healing.

When we obey the Lord’s command to preach the gospel, we don’t need to worry about what to say. All we need to do is to make sure we are obeying. As we obey, the Lord Himself will give us what to say and empower us to do exploits in His name.

Go into today knowing that what to say is not the problem, God will always provide the rights words as you obey Him. Ask the Lord for wisdom to be a soul winner.

WHAT SHOULD I SAY?

*Devotional Audio/Audio Bible Link*: http://bit.ly/1NR4OnD

Isa 40:6
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? [KJV]

Many Christians do not evangelize because they apparently do not know what to say. 'How do I begin? What if I am asked questions? Which verse do I quote?' These are questions that come up.

Although, we have been blessed by the word of the gospel and bear witness to it, it however does not originate from us; we are only vessels of transmission of this glorious word.

Each person is unique in their person and needs, and God knows them well. So you just have to trust God for His help. God's promise in Luke 21:15 says 'I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict'. We must go out boldly to preach the gospel with this understanding.

Relying on the Holy Spirit is key in sharing the gospel, but we must not neglect the place of knowing the word. Col 3:16 says 'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another'. John 14:26 says 'But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you'.

So, in addition to having the desired help from God by the right words to say, when we have the word of God rich on our inside, the Holy Spirit can help draw from this Word Bank by remembrance.

Go into today with this conviction: The Spirit of the LORD speaks by me; his word is on my tongue (2 Sa 23:2)

Prayer: Father, I repent for not trusting you enough to help me share the gospel. Through your word today, I am assured and confident that I am not alone in this labor of soul winning. Thank you Jesus.

THE DELUSION OF WRONG WORSHIP 3

Devotional/Bible Plan Audio: http://bit.ly/1VgcZLY

Rom 1:28
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; [KJV]

A heart that does not retain God in it's knowledge is doomed. It is a heart that excuses God because of misguided sophistication or certain prevailing circumstances. The concept of God is not firmly rooted in his heart and he or she adapts to the environment like a spiritual chameleon. Such Christians may even find scriptures to support their waywardness. They are in delusion, though they may think they know God. They eventually find themselves doing abominable acts yet remaining blind to their need of repentance. This is the state the Scriptures call 'reprobate'.

A certain prophet called Balaam was so deluded. The Scriptures called it "madness" (2 Pet 2:15-16). Balaam lost control. Like Cain, he wandered away in a very vast spiritual wilderness. Balaam still heard from God (or so, he thought), yet he was already so far from the true worship of God.

King Saul is another example. It got so bad that he consulted a witch (1 Sam 28:7-14). When a man does not retain God in his knowledge; be it spiritual knowledge or otherwise, he is exposed to familiar spirits. These are spirits who are conversant with your spiritual experiences and can sustain them while preserving the faulty state of your heart. A vicious weapon of the devil in this end time is deception (Mat 24:4; 1 Tim 4:1; 1 Jn 4:1). Beware.

Go into to examining your heart.

Prayer: Lord, I hand over my heart to You. Search me and know me. Save me from every delusion. In Jesus' name. Amen. Not born again? Click: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol

THE DELUSION OF WRONG WORSHIP 2

Devotional/YBP Audio: http://bit.ly/1Uae2ue

Acts 7:42
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?[KJV]

In the text above, Stephen narrated the experience of the children of Israel who left Egypt. That scripture said '... God turned, and gave them up to worship (wrongly)...' That is, for forty years a people thought they were making sacrifices to God in worship, but in reality they were not. Is this not scary? We find the root cause of their delusion in verse 39 of Acts 7; '... and in their hearts (they) turned back again into Egypt'.

The foundation of worship is the heart. No matter how outwardly you behave towards God, once the heart is faulty the worship is wrong (Psa 11:3). It is like a car whose engine is in reverse. It does not matter if the driver faces his front or how much he accelerates, the car is doomed to go backward. The Scriptures did not warn us in vain to guard our hearts diligently. Our life and eternity depends on it (Prov 4:23).

So one condition of the heart that leads to delusion in worship is a heart that has 'turned back into Egypt'. (Acts 7:39). Jesus said in Luke 9:62 'No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God'. He also reminded us of Lot's wife who looked back. (Luke 17:32). A believer who looks at the world as if he or she is missing some 'fun', has turned back in his heart and is headed for delusion.

Once again, check your heart today.

Prayer: Help me Lord. Fix my heart on pilgrimage. Let me fix my mind on the things above where You are. In Jesus' name. Amen.

THE DELUSION OF WRONG WORSHIP 1

Devotional/YBP Audio: http://bit.ly/1YTHkPh

Romans 1:28
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient [KJV]

Many Christians think Worship is slowing down a song in a solemn way when singing to God. Others think you worship God when you bow your head or kneel or lay prostrate in prayer. Some people even think worship is tied to a particular place or structure. But worship is far deeper than any act that can be seen. Jesus told the woman by the well that true worship is done in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). It is a spiritual reality taking place far inside the heart of a man.

Worship is from a root word which means 'worth-ship'. When you worship God you are affirming His worth- you are neither flattering Him nor boosting His self-esteem. Since no man knows God's full worth, it takes a transport into a rare spiritual reality to attain true worship. This is not difficult at all. In fact it is so simple that so many believers miss it.

Worship is a journey that takes place in a heart that is totally yielded to God (See Isa 66:1-4). When a man's heart leans even slightly on anything other than God, such a man's delusion begins till he is lost and may eventually become a vagabond in the vast field of the spirit realm.

Next time, we shall see how people may stray in worship due to the conditions of their hearts. Till then, examine the state of your heart.

Prayer: Lord, hold me closely. Let Your Spirit guide me in true worship. Let me not stray into idols. In Jesus' name. Amen. Not born again? Click: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol

BLESSED INDEED

Devotional/YBP Audio Link: http://bit.ly/1NG98G8

1 Chronicles 4:10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. [KJV]

There is a measure of God's blessing in every one (Gen 1:26-28). However, when a man is blessed indeed, he is blessed with the full measure. The story behind our main Bible text talks about a man named Jabez. But Jabez knew he was not really blessed; the mother and probably others knew this too (see 1 Chr 4:9-10). Very many people who are considered blessed experience sorrow deep in their hearts. One way to know if you are blessed indeed is to gauge your joy. Is your joy full?

The common saying that "The Rich Also Cry" captures the reality that many people have deep sorrow inside even when they appear blessed on the outside. The Scriptures tell us in Proverbs 10:22 "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." In other words, being blessed indeed is to have no sorrow inside.

As children of God, our blessing is in Christ Jesus. We know God is well pleased in Christ so there can be no sorrow in our blessing. We have come into eternal joy that is not dependent on any eventuality. (See Isa 12:3, Joh 16:33 and Psa 16:11).

Go into today with the joy of God's blessing. Let your joy radiate and bless every one that comes your way.

Prayer confession: I am blessed indeed. I am blessed with spiritual blessing in heavenly places. There is no sorrow in me. The joy of the LORD is my strength. Amen.

NOT GUILTY

Click this link to get the Devotional/YBP Audio: http://bit.ly/1OGxx9H

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [KJV]

It is actually a sense of guilt and condemnation that makes a believer say things like; "I am just an OLD SINNER". That is not true because you cannot be saved and still be a sinner. If you are saved, you are not even "OLD" much less a sinner. Scripture says "if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW creature and old things are passed away, behold, all things have become NEW (see 2 Cor 5:17).

Today's meditation is for believers who have fallen into sin and have found it difficult to reconcile with the Father.

Confess your sin, pray for forgiveness and believe that the blood of Jesus is enough to erase that sin.

Our Scripture today tells us "he is FAITHFUL and just to forgive you" therefore, Child of God, there is nothing against you any longer. Jesus took away everything that was against us on His cross. Colossians 2:14

Romans 5:1 says "therefore being justified (declared not guilty) by faith, we have peace with God" You are justified and it is God Himself that declared you justified.

Go into today knowing that it is God that justifies you, therefore no one can declare you guilty.

PRAYER: Father I thank you for making me new in Christ. I ask that you help me see myself the way you see me. Amen. Not yet saved? Click: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol

WALKING IN GOD’S LOVE

Devotional/YBP Audio: http://bit.ly/1ORx8Xd

1 John 4:11-12
11 Dear friends, if God so loved us, then we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us, and his love is perfected in us. [NET]

Love is what proves that God dwells in you. What makes the difference is our ability to love as Christians. To love the way God loves is impossible except you have God living in you and empowering you to do so.

Any man walking in the flesh cannot love because anyone walking in the flesh is naturally selfish and self-seeking. The God kind of love is characterized by selflessness. This kind of love can only be manifested by a man who knows God. This is the true kind of love(1 John 4:7).

If you truly know God, you will also know that He is all-powerful and all you will get in life comes from Him. This knowledge also empowers you to love others selflessly because you know that what you get in life comes from God and you don't need to be selfish because your portion in life is secure in God.

Go into today with a desire to know God more. Determine to live a love filled life inspired by a growing knowledge of God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so much. I pray you help me truly love others too, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

PRIORITY OF THE WORD

Click this link to get Devotional/YBP Audio: http://bit.ly/257ftis

Acts 6:2
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. [KJV]

There came a time when the early Church needed some more administration especially in the distribution of food among brethren. The apostles weighed the options and decided their primary assignment must not change even in the face of an emergency. They should never allow their devotion to God's word suffer by attending to even legitimate contingencies.

A similar scenario played out at Bethany. Jesus was in the house of Mary and Martha. Martha thought cooking for the Lord was important and accused her sister Mary of not being helpful in that regard. But Mary, sitting at the Lord's feet listening to God's word was commended by the Lord. Jesus arbitrated between the two sisters this way; "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luk 10:41-42).

Scriptures tell us that God magnifies His word above His name (Psa 138:2). And He is committed to someone who 'trembles' at His word (see Isa 66:1-2). The man who 'trembles' at God's word will resist any activity (no matter how legitimate) that threatens his attention to God's word.

We give priority to God's word in our lives when we observe a regular time of studying Scriptures. We also do this by listening to Spirit-filled servants of God. And also obeying God's words when we know them. Go and do likewise today and always.

Prayer confession: Lord, I put Your word first in my life. I trust you to put my life in order. Amen.
