Prov 3:11-12 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. [KJV]
Demola was about to travel and leave his wife who was very mean to him. He had meticulously planned everything. He had his ‘righteous’ reasons. He had secured a job in another city and even chose the house he was going to rent. He told his ‘wicked’ wife that he wanted to travel briefly, but in reality he was leaving her because he wanted peace in his life again.
The last Sunday service he attended before traveling, there was a guest minister who spoke on marriage. The minister spent a lot of time discouraging separation and divorce. He spoke as if he knew all Demola’s plans.
Demola immediately knew the Lord wasn’t happy with his plans to leave his wife. He repented from them and decided to make things work with his wife. He and his wife ended up very happy together. The Lord blessed them with Children and made them very wealthy.
Whenever you see an instruction like the one in today’s Bible text, the reason is usually because the more likely thing for most people will be to despise the chastening and correction of the Lord.
Most times the Lord corrects, He rarely physically appears to us to do so. He rather uses the words of His servants and leadings in our spirits. And because the words are usually not pleasant to the flesh, most people find it convenient to despise them and deceive themselves that the word is not for them or from the Lord.
Go into today determined to regard the word of God above all else in your life. This is the ultimate key to the blessing.
Ask the Lord to create in you a heart that praises and honors His word above all else.
