1 John 3:21-22
Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God, 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing to him. [NET]
There was a sin Tunde committed, and even though he 'repented', he still felt guilty.
Because of the way his conscience kept condemning him, it affected his confidence in the place of prayer. Being a spiritually wise Christian, Tunde knew he had to get rid of this guilt fast. He did everything to end his feeling of condemnation, but the feeling did not go away. He was later led to confess what he had done to another brother. That was how he received his freedom from a guilty conscience.
This topic of 'guilty conscience' is very important for us to examine because guilt is Satan's chief weapon hindering Christians from accessing God's grace.
No one can wish away a guilty conscience. Many have tried to brainwash themselves using some superfluous teachings about grace, but if they are truthful to themselves, they would admit that they still bear guilt for sins committed. In fact, If you don’t feel anything when you commit a sin, you are not yet a child of God.
1 John 1:8 [NET] says "If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us".
Know that if you are in Christ, your guilt does not affect the way God sees you, God is bigger than that (see 1 John 3:20). The problem is with us. A guilty conscience always hinders us from accessing God's throne of grace, and that is a big problem.
We shall further examine this topic next time.
Go into today knowing that the blood of Jesus is strong enough to cleanse every guilt. Ask the Lord for grace to walk above sin and guilt.
