1 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

Any of the five vices mentioned above can be in the life of a believer without him knowing something is wrong.

I have walked in malice before as a believer and I didn’t know it was so dangerous. I just found out it was very difficult for me to forgive those who really offended me. I got free from that bondage when I decided that I wanted to grow spiritually. The truth is that if these sins are in the life of a believer, they will hinder his spiritual growth and power.

Deceit is very common among believers. Many simply tell lies and paint the wrong impression of things. Some make promises that they have no intention fulfilling. That shouldn’t be in the life of a believer.

Hypocrisy is the sister of deceit. Many people walk in it without even knowing it. They openly condemn what they do in secret. Hypocrites are the loudest and most merciless judges.

Envy is very subtle. It comes almost naturally to us, but the believer must fight it. It is a work of the flesh that produces death. The Holy Spirit within you rejoices when things go well for others. So should you.

Evil speaking is quite common too among believers. People speak evil of others because of envy or malice. Anything you cannot say in the presence of a person should not be said behind him. This is one way of ensuring that this sin is not in your life.

Go into today remembering that these silent sins hinder spiritual growth and power.

Ask the Lord to deliver you from any of them.

Acts 3:21 (NLT)
For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets.

The Nigerian Naira was nearly equal to the British Pound and quite stronger than the US dollar. There was no need for visas. Traveling to Britain was easy as ABC, and not a do or die affair. Nigerians would visit London for a few days and be back home to continue life as usual. Nothing extra special.

However, as corruption set in, everything plummeted. By the early 90s, going to England had become a status symbol, and the queues steadily grew at the Embassy. Nigerians started talking of relocating and simply did not plan to come back home.

Today, one pound sterling is a few hundreds of Naira.

Well, in the beginning it was not so, whatever you could do there, you could get done in Nigeria. All the grandeur Britain could provide was a good holiday experience, but it could not beat living in your own country. Nigeria was simply home.

So also it was in the actual beginning, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden were neither quite heavenly nor quite earthy. They were God's representatives on earth. There was very little gap between heaven and earth. Adam could walk about the garden with God, and angels were a common sight. Nobody prayed because there was no need to. Until sin came in.

The more sin there was in the world, the larger the gap became between heaven and earth. But it was gradual. Cain could hear God as clear as day. He was speaking with God as a man would speak with His neighbor, even after he murdered his brother. As sin continued to multiply as more men were born, heaven shifted further and further away. A point came when heaven became so far and so closed up that like those seeking a visa, "men began to call upon the name of the Lord" (Genesis 4:26).

Enoch was the only one known to have obtained the visa in those days. The travel history is not clear on how many visits he made to and fro, but we are told that he traveled once and simply never came back.

1 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

Uche had a vegetable garden that he hoped will one day become profitable. But he observed that his vegetables were not growing properly. It became clear to him that the soil needed to be fertilized, but he needed to weed the garden first because there was much weed there. When he removed the weeds, he applied fertilizer and the vegetables began to grow properly.

There are things that hinder spiritual growth and God expects you to lay them aside. Many of these things are vestiges of the old life carried over to the new [born again] life. These things hinder spiritual growth, and lack of spiritual growth hinders spiritual might and fulfillment of destinies in God. No matter how great the destiny of a person is when he is born, he has to grow into an adult to fulfill it. So it is with your eternal destiny and rewards.

Unlike more bogus sins like adultery or fornication, malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and evil speaking are sins that do not look very dangerous, and it is easy for believers to get entangled in one of them and still feel all is well, but they are the silent killers. They cause defilement of the spirit and hinder spiritual growth. They too are the works of the flesh that produce spiritual death (Rom 8:13, Gal 6:8, Gal 5:21). A believer can feed on God's word as long as he wants, but if these things are found in his life, they will hinder him from growing because they are like weeds in a garden.

Go into today examining yourself. If you find any of these in your life, don't deny it, confess (admit) it to the Lord and receive His cleansing (1 John 1:9).

Philippians 3:12
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

Gbenga insisted that there was no more perfection he was striving towards because he was already complete in Christ. That Christ has finished everything and there was nothing left for him to do. He said this because he was wrongly taught. This was the reason he could not walk in spiritual authority and was still a slave to sins.

He did not realize that even though a good seed is perfect and complete because it has everything it takes to become a big fruitful tree, it will need to grow and continue to grow for it to actually become that.

Indeed, the most important thing about any plant is its seed. Everything the plant will become has been encoded in its seed. There is no need laboring to have a good plant if the seed is bad.

We as believers in Christ are born of the incorruptible seed (1 Pet 1:23). This seed is perfect, and everything about our perfection has already been completed in this seed. But we have to let this seed grow and bring forth fruit. We have to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12). We have to press on to possess the perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed us (Phil 3:12).

The devil will do everything he can to hinder you from possessing this perfection. But remember that God will do everything to help you succeed.

Go into today remembering that the Spirit that lives within you is infinitely greater than the devil, and through Him, you will always overcome (see 1 John 4:4).

Philippians 3:10 (KJV)
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death

If I told you of a couple who've been married for 50 years and on their wedding anniversary this year, the husband knelt on one knee and renewed his wedding vows with a diamond ring, saying to his 74 year old wife:

"I want to spend the rest of my life with you, gazing into your face. I want to know your thoughts and dreams and fears. I always want to be there for you. I'd choose you all over again. Help me be a better husband"

If I told you this, you would blush and smile. Some of you will even tear.

Yet someone has somehow convinced you that Michael W Smith's "Draw me close to You; Never let me go. I'll lay it all down again, to hear You say that I'm your friend... You're all I want, You're all I've ever needed. Help me know You are near"
Or
Don Moen's "I just want to be where You are; dwelling daily in Your presence; In Your presence, that's where I always want to be..."

Someone has somehow convinced you that the song is not for the New Testament saint. That people sing it because they don't understand who they are in Christ Jesus, because they don't understand grace.

What kind of 'grace' is that?!

Go into today remembering that any 'grace' that is so poor in love can never be rich in grace.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to fill your heart with fresh hunger for His presence.

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Remi was faced with a situation that she really needed to know the will of God for her. She prayed and even fasted, but it appeared she was not hearing from God to know what to do. She wondered why the Lord didn’t speak to her the way He always did.

Years later, after growing more, she realized that the reason the Lord did not speak to her concerning the matter was because she was already in His will. The decision she was going to make by default was in accordance with God's will, and He didn’t need to speak to her again concerning it. All she knew was that she felt peace when doing what was most acceptable.

One thing that comes with spiritual maturity is the ability to discern what is right from wrong using the wisdom that God has given you (see Heb 5:14). There are many times in life that God expects you to simply do the expected (which will always be the right thing to do). He will be the one to come in and intercept your plan if the 'right' thing you are doing is contrary to His will.

When your mind has been renewed, this helps you make your decisions the way Christ would have made them. Your will becomes one with His will.

Go into today remembering that God gave you a mind for you to use it. Your mind becomes useful in the kingdom of God when it has been renewed to become like the mind of Christ (Phil 2:5).

OVERCOMING THE WORLD

1 John 5:5 (NLT)
And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

If God tells you to do something, it is because He has already concluded it for you in the realm of the Spirit.

God expects us to overcome (see Rev 2:11) because he has already made us overcomers. He expects us to work out our salvation because He has already saved us. He expects us to walk in physical healing because He has already healed us, for  'by His stripes, ye WERE healed' (1 Pet 2:24).
Everything that a tree is expected to become is because it has already been encoded in its seed.

Overcoming the world means overcoming the things that are in the world. They include the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life (see 1 John 2:16). The devil only has power in the life of a person who is still controlled by any of these.

Jesus said the prince of this world had nothing in Him (John 14:30). This means there was nothing of the world that was found in Jesus. No pride, no lust, and no greed.

It is impossible to overcome the world without the power of Christ. This is the power you have within you if you believe that Jesus is the son of God.

Go into today remembering that the way to overcome the world is by taking advantage of the power [of the Holy Spirit] within you. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (see 1 John 4:4).

Mark 16:16 (NET)
The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

I remember preaching to a young man. While preaching, the power of God came so mightily that through word of knowledge I knew many secret things about him. I told him some of them and that was a sign that led to him confessing the Lord Jesus. I wanted so much to get him baptized and disciple him, but I was led against that. I knew he was not my disciple. As events will unravel in the future, it became clear to me that someone else would be the one to disciple him.

The Lord can give you personal instructions that may look outside the norm, but they still will not contradict His will as revealed in scripture. If the Lord restrains you from doing something you think is needful, it is because he has arranged for someone else to do it.

I have seen some ministers leave their disciples unbaptized, and many quote Apostle Paul who said the Lord did not send him to baptize but only to preach. They forget that the people he was writing to were already baptized by the time he wrote to them. To baptize disciples is a commandment of the Lord and everyone who believes should be baptized. (See Matt 28:19).

Apostle Paul was not instructed to baptize the Corinthians because the Lord wanted other ministers to baptize and disciple them. The wisdom of the Lord in instructing Paul to only preach was revealed when Paul had to use that as one of his greatest points to prove to the Corinthians that he was not called to disciple them, but Apollos was. He said 'I planted, Apollos watered… '(1 Cor 3:6).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you rightly discern His will.

THE TESTIMONIES OF GOD 3

*Psalm 119:1-3 (KJV)*
1Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the LAW of the Lord.
2 Blessed are they that keep his TESTIMONIES, and that seek him with the whole heart.

When Blake started his apostolic work in a western city, it was clear to him that many of the disciples in that city were struggling with certain sins and weights. He later observed that many of them watched unwholesome programs on TV. In that city, they had free adult channels and all kinds of iniquity on TV.

One day when he was travailing for his disciples in prayer, he received a clear instruction to tell them to all get rid of their TV sets. He struggled with this instruction, but it was clearly from the Lord. As they all obeyed and got rid of their TV sets, many of them were now free from the weights and sins that sought to entangle them. It happened that the principality in that territory was using TV as a portal to invade homes and lives.

We have seen previously that the Testimonies of the Lord are defined as His personal instructions to you. These are quite different from His ordinances and Law. Ordinances and laws are for the entire body of Christ, but testimonies are personalized (see the devotionals of 15th & 16th July 2017). Instructions born out of your personal walk with God should not be translated to instructions for the entire body of Christ, even though it could apply to your disciples for a season.

Go into today remembering that if you have a personal relationship with the Lord, you will receive personal instructions from Him that will be your secret to overcoming peculiar battles. Samson's secret was in obeying the instruction never to shave his head. John the Baptist was instructed never to take strong drink. The Lord may have instructed you and your disciples not to dress in a certain way. Do not make it a doctrine for the entire body of Christ.

2 Tim 1:7(KJV)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Tara received a message on WhatsApp that ended with a threat. It said if she failed to share the message with six of her contacts within six hours of reading it, something bad was going to happen to her within days. But if she shared the message, something good was going to happen to her . The message went on to tell stories of how good things have happened to people who shared it, and how very bad things happened to people who didn't.

Interestingly enough, she read the message in the night after her internet data ran out, and could not recharge that night. Tara's day was disorganized because she was afraid of the threat in the message since she could not share it.

Anyone claiming to be sharing the word of God, but threatening people to share it is not doing so by the spirit of God. That is the way witchcraft works. It uses fear, intimidation and manipulation, to make people do things they normally wouldn’t want to do. Do not open the door of fear in your life by sharing any such message.

People do not receive blessings from God because they clicked 'like' on a Facebook post or shared a message. People receive blessings from God because of their faith in God and obedience to His word (see Psalm 1).

It is interesting how some Christians can read messages created by a con artist and believe every word of it, but fail to believe every word of God that have spoken good concerning them.

Go into today remembering that God's Word is the most powerful word in the universe and it says good concerning you. Read it, believe it, and share it in love.

John 10:27-28 (NASB)
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Seyi was disturbed that as a believer he didn’t really know the voice of the Lord. This was a big problem because he understood that this was what distinguished the sheep from the goats.

He understood that there were goats and there were sheep, and everyone claimed to be a follower of the Lord, but those who are led (whose lives are controlled) by the voice of the Lord are they who are His true sheep (see Rom 8:14). He understood that it is those who follow the leading of the Lord that will never fall 'For He leads [them] in the path of righteousness for His name's sake'. But how could he be so led without the ability to know or hear the voice of the Lord?

He started praying and fasting about this. One morning, he received enlightenment when he picked up his Bible to read. He looked at it again and it occurred to Him that these are the words of the Lord. Every word in it was inspired by the Spirit of Christ. Reading and understanding it was the easiest way to hear the voice of the Lord and follow it.

The Lord leads us by His instructions in the Bible. As a matter of fact, there is no leading from Him you can receive in your spirit that will contradict His will as expressed in the Bible.

Go into today remembering that Christians who want to be led by the Lord go for His word. They crave His word like newborn babies crave milk (see 1 Pet 2:2). Read the Bible and get materials to help you better understand the word (Get books, download sermons, attend meetings, etc).
Prayer: Thank the Lord for the Bible.

James 2:17 (NASB)
Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

Works are no more the enemy of faith than breathing is the enemy of life.
Breathing is effortless, so that even when you are sleeping and kind of unconscious, it continues unabated.

But if you climb up a long flight of stairs or run a short distance, you will suddenly understand that breathing is serious work.
Panting as if your life depended on it. It does.

You cannot by getting the paramedics to use their resuscitation equipment to breathe for a dead man, get him to live again. It is life that produces breathing, in the first place.

A baby does not come alive by breathing. It is conceived and grows to full maturity in the womb without taking a single breath. The first breath is taken in the first minute of life after it comes out of the womb when the baby has been alive already, for nine whole months! But if it does not breathe, it is a problem; and where nothing is done to help it breathe, you will quickly discover that although it did not come alive by breathing, it will die by not breathing.

Is breathing produced by life? Yes, it is. Does breathing sustain life? Yes, it does.
So also is salvation and works.

So next time a person tells you that salvation cannot be maintained by works, ask them to hold their breath for you just to be sure they are still alive. [It is impossible to continue doing that for long].

For that is the same thing as someone who claims he is saved no matter what he does.
Because faith without works of obedience, works of righteousness, works of holy living,
Is dead.

Acts 1:8 (NET)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth."

After Seyi received the revelation that made him realize he was now a new creature because of his faith in Christ Jesus, he knew that he needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He kept on reading books about the Holy Spirit and realized that the Holy Spirit is the secret of Holiness. Anyone filled with the HOLY Spirit will be HOLY.

He didn’t only want to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit, he wanted to remain filled for the rest of his life. He knew that was the only way he would stay without backsliding again. Staying on fire for God became his biggest priority in life. He sought this with the whole of his heart. He didn’t want to be a slave to sin any longer. He loved his new found freedom in Christ and the boldness and authority it brought. He was no longer tormented by demons but now had the power to cast them out, etc.

I have come to realize that if many Christians seek the Kingdom of God the way they seek to be have more money, many will be so powerful that their world would have been set on fire for Christ. You cannot seek the Kingdom of God without seeking His righteousness. This righteousness is ministered to your Spirit by the Holy Ghost. He empowers you to walk above sin in this world.

Go into today remembering that the Holy Spirit empowers you to be Holy. Seeking the kingdom of God also means seeking to be filled with the Spirit at all times.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you to be filled at all times (see Eph 5:18-20).

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NET)
17 So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away-look, what is new has come!

After Seyi had believed for two years, he looked back at his past life to see if there was any difference. He could not find much difference. He was still bound to iniquity and was still the same old Seyi. This made him doubt if he was really born again. 'How can I be born again and still be doing these things' he would say to himself time and time again.

He believed that what he needed was deliverance and he went from Pastor to Pastor seeking it. Each pastor he visited prayed for him and told him he had been delivered, but he still went back to his old sins and habits. He really desired to serve God and live Holy before Him, but he found that his desire was not strong enough to make him leave his old life.

One day, he saw a post on Facebook that made him realize that he was already a new creation because of his faith in Christ. Wearers he was trying to be a new creation, he did not realize that he was made a new creation by God, not by himself. When he had this revelation, his life changed. Immediately, he realized that he needed to change his friends because he was now a new creature. He realized that he now had the power to say 'NO' to sin because he was now a new creature. He would say to himself 'would a new creature do this?' and would find the strength to resist temptations.

Go into today knowing that understanding who you are is very important. An eagle that believes it is a chicken will never fly high.

20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

If I do something deserving of death, and instead, you take my place and are killed, it means

1. You died for me. (You gave your life FOR me).

It also means that whereas I should have been dead and you alive. You have cut short your life so that I might go on living.

My life should have ended while you had more years to live. Now your life is ended and I have those years.

2. You have given your life to me.

1 and 2 are the credits of grace, where 1 pays my debt and brings my account from negative to zero, and 2 moves me from zero or having nothing to having something.

Now, whereas I was violent and evil, and you were peaceful and gentle, from the day you died in my stead, I can do no more violence.

Whenever I remember what happened, I become gentle and peaceful. Life as I used to know it has ended. This means I (the old me) died with you.

I find that I cannot go back to the things I did that made me deserving of death. That will be wasting the life you have given me.

This life you have credited me with is only useful for living it as you would have lived it.

I am now living for you. You died for me and gave your life to me.

I (the old me) died with you, and I (the new me) am now living for you.

Go into today thanking the Lord for giving His life for you. Ask Him to help you live for Him.

Psalm 119:1-3 (KJV)
1Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

Clara won a new convert who later told her that he was one of the friends of the boy who wanted to drug her. She felt so much hatred for that boy afterward. But she knew she could not let that hatred dwell in her heart. She knew that doing this would be breaking the commandment of Christ. This was about her relationship with her Lord. Jesus commands us to love God, Love each other, and love even our enemies (see Mat 5:44, John 13:34).

In today's Bible verses, you can see that there is the Law of the Lord and there are His testimonies. It is usually in the place of seeking that Lord that you receive His testimonies (see Psalm 119:2b). His testimonies are vehicles through which He delivers victory into areas of your life.

You walk in His law, but you keep His Testimonies. In the new covenant, you walk in His law by walking in the Spirit. You keep His testimonies by obeying His instructions to you. For example, He may instruct you to stay away from social media for a season in your life, and He would usually make you understand the reason why.

Go into today knowing that keeping His testimonies is the secret to walking above iniquity (Psalm 119:2-3) and overcoming in life (Rev 12:11). This is only possible when you first walk in His law (the Law of the Spirit characterized by relationship, not by regulations).

Psalm 119:1-3 (KJV)
1Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

When Clara got to the university, she was very young and quite naïve. But she knew the Lord and knew how to hear from Him. One evening she was praying, it became very clear to her from the Lord that she was never to attend any parties on that campus. As a new student who was very beautiful, she got so many invitations to all kinds of parties. There were birthday parties, welcome parties, departmental parties, etc.
One young man who was in her department had been trying to date her, but she refused. He was a bad boy. He found out about her birthday and planned a surprise birthday party for her in his apartment. Unknown to Clara, he and his friends had plans to drug her food and rape her after the party.
Clara bluntly refused to go to her own birthday party because she had earlier received instructions from the Lord never to attend parties. She was saved from the evil plot of those boys because she kept the testimony of the Lord.

The testimonies of God are personal instructions from God given to you to guide your life. They may not apply the same way to other people, but for you, breaking them is disobedience.

When God instructed that Samson was never to cut his hair, that was a testimony of God for Him. That was his secret of overcoming in life.
Go into today knowing that as you walk with the Lord, you will receive testimonies that will be your secret of overcoming (see Rev 12:11).

Luke 10:21 (AMP)
In that same hour He rejoiced and gloried in the Holy Spirit and said, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have concealed these things [relating to salvation] from the wise and understanding and learned, and revealed them to babes (the childish, unskilled, and untaught). Yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will and choice and good pleasure.

The above is same thing Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 1:19&20; even unto the end of that chapter. (Most of what Paul wrote in His epistles is an inspired commentary on the words of Jesus, the law and the prophets; and whenever you hear folks telling you to read nothing but the epistles, you are about to lose out on the Life in the word of God)

I have found that Christians who read the Bible by majoring on individual Greek words have more knowledge, but those who read the Bible by comparing with contemporary English versions have more understanding.

So, word study without recourse to the Spirit of God and the knowledge of the whole text in plain language causes what is clear to the simple believing reader to be hidden from the dissecting theologian, the scribe, and the brilliant debaters and disputers .

There is NOTHING in the individual word that can change the contextual meaning of any truth except there is a preconceived lie at work.

Using the contrived meaning of a word to cancel out the context of a passage and alter other passages that confirm that passage has brought some to their present low estate. There are several examples of this mistake in certain doctrinal circles.

Let us not be blind guides, straining at insects and swallowing whole camels (Matthew 23:24)...perpetually missing the whole point, which is love from a pure heart, a good and clear conscience, and a sincere faith.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)
16. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

When Bimpe moved into the hostel, unknown to her, there were demons in that room that afflicted every girl who ever lived there. Her staying in that room ended the dominion of those demons because she was God's temple. The demons parked out and she didn’t even know. She later knew what happened when she started hearing stories.

Before the coming of Jesus Christ, God asked Moses to build a Temple (Tabernacle) and gave him the plan. The old temple was a place where God’s presence dwelt whenever he visited his people. He sometimes came upon certain people for special purposes, but never dwelt in them. At the coming of Jesus Christ, God came and dwelt among man, and after His resurrection and ascension, God returned to dwell in man, and this, permanently. It is His coming to dwell in man that makes man His temple.

You see, you are more valuable to God than you have probably imagined. God is set to live in you and make you His voice and representative here on earth. What a privilege!

Are you ready to represent God? Will he find you ready when he needs a representative in your school, home and or workplace? Or will you prevent Him from working?

Never forget that you are a channel through which God wants to reach your surroundings. You are God’s temple.
Prayer: Tell God you are ready to Let Him work through you.

Psalms 91:12 (KJV)
They (angels) shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Tara was to travel from Enugu to Abuja. Because she was not used to Enugu, she depended on the taxi driver to take her to the motor park where she would board a vehicle going to Abuja.

It became clear to her that something mischievous was going on when she was in that car for up to 40 minutes. The driver later told her that he had lost his way, but later found it. By the time she got to the garage, the first bus going to Abuja just filled up. She knew she would have to wait another two hours for the next bus to fill up. She was so angry with the taxi driver for wasting her time that she refused to pay him his complete fee. Unlike the other taxi drivers, he didn't react, but simply collected what she gave him and left.

When the bus she entered eventually took off, four hours into their journey, they saw the bus she missed burning. It had collided with a truck and no one could survive. She had missed this fatal accident because her taxi driver wasted her time. She now knew that God used his angels to make him waste her time, or he himself was not an angel.

Remember that the promise in today's Bible verse is for the person that dwells in the secret place of the Most High (see Psalm 91:1). This is only possible by faith in Christ Jesus because He is the only way to the Most High.

Go into today thanking God that you are under His shadow if you are born again. If you are not yet born again, today is the day of your salvation.

Isaiah 42:3 (KJV)
A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench: He shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

God created us to bring Him pleasure. The rhythms of our daily living are meant to produce melodies that are pleasing to the Lord. However, you will notice that the scripture for today talks about a bruised reed and a smoking flax. Does that reflect what your life looks like right now? Are you battered and shattered and contemplating giving up on your faith? Do you feel that you are broken beyond repairs? Take a look at a reed; helpless, insignificant and weak; a bruised reed out of which no music can come; weaker than weakness itself; a reed; and that reed is bruised. Is that the picture of your life right now?

Take a look at His promise again. Even though you are like that bruised reed, yet, He will not break you, but on the contrary, will restore and strengthen you. Or, are you like the smoking flax? Your life cannot produce any light or warmth? Has your fire reduced to ordinary smoke that makes people around you uncomfortable? He will blow with His sweet breath of mercy till He fans you to flame.

Dear friend, don’t give up on God, He will help you.

Psalm 5:3(NIV)
“In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”

Do you often find yourself going into your day angry, perplexed, confused, and irritated; trying to do three different things at the same time, ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the day? Do you often go into the day in fear and anxiety wondering what the day has in store for you? This is probably because you didn’t begin your day well. The Psalmist gives us a key to having a fulfilled day.

The first thing David did before getting into each day was to lift up his voice to the Lord. Lift up your voice to the Lord in prayer. Bring your plans and requests before Him. Commit to Him the difficulties you will likely face that day. Then like David, you will be able to wait in expectation. You will go into your day knowing that God will answer the prayers you have laid before Him.

Dear friend, this is the secret of having a fulfilled day; begin each day by letting God hear your voice.

Prayer: Commit this day to the Lord and bring your requests before Him.

1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

We are saved from the world into the church, through the Sacrifice of Jesus; but we are being kept through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last day, through the High Priesthood of Jesus.

The Atonement brings justification unto righteousness; the High Priesthood brings sanctification unto holiness (see 1 Thes 5:23).

Therefore, for the unbeliever, Jesus has taken care of their sins as the Lamb, the sacrifice. He is not their Advocate. He cannot advocate anything for them. He cannot sanctify them. What they need is to accept that sacrifice by believing in Him. So they may be justified. That's what propitiation is for.

When an unbeliever has done that and believed. All his sins are forgiven and he has been brought into a new covenant with the High Priest who is His advocate, fully justified.

Old things pass away and all things become new.

The one who justified him from all things past including his PAST SINS (those committed under the old covenant or in the old life as in the case of non-Jews who were never under the old covenant), NOW SANCTIFIES HIM as the High Priest or advocate before God, by the blood of sprinkling.

For the believer, Jesus is both the Atonement that dealt with the old life and the Advocate that is the Apostle of his new life and the High Priest of the new covenant.

Jesus died to save the world, but He lives only for His Church.

1 John 2:1-2 (NKJV)
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

In the first two verses of 1 John 2, two words are used in relation to the Lord: Propitiation (in verse 2), and Advocate (in verse 1).They are NOT the same word.

As the Propitiation, Jesus is the Atonement Lamb, the Sacrifice; but as the Advocate, He is the High Priest.

He died as the Atonement Lamb, but He was raised as the Advocating High Priest.

The Lamb took away the sins of the whole world, so Propitiation is for all men, including all saints; but High Priest is the Advocate with the Father only for the Church.

As the Atonement Lamb, He is the Savior of the world; but as the Advocating High Priest, He is the Savior of the Body.

As the Atonement Lamb, Jesus became sin, died and went to hell; that all men might be justified; but concerning the High Priesthood, He is sinless, He lives and has ascended; that those who have been justified might be sanctified and glorified.

The Atonement brings to an end all that is of the old creation; the High Priesthood is for the perfecting of all that is of the new creation.

The Atonement or Propitiation is for sins committed in the old life; and under the old covenant for those who were under it, because the blood of bulls and goats in that covenant could not take away those sins. But the High Priesthood is for sanctification, cleansing and purifying in the new covenant for those who have new life.

So the Propitiation is for justification from past sins, but having been justified, if any one in the church sins, the Advocating High Priesthood deals with that.

Go into today remembering that you have a high priest who advocates for you. Live with the consciousness of His help.

Luke 16:16 [NET]
“The law and the prophets were in force until John; since then, the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is urged to enter it.

The major reason the religious leaders and Pharisees crucified Jesus was because He said he was the Son of God. They understood that this claim meant He was saying that He is God and Lord. They killed him because they believed He blasphemed and was deserving of death. But as proof that Jesus didn’t tell a lie, God raised him up on the third day.

Therefore the resurrection of Jesus was proof that He was indeed the Son of God, and this became the major linchpin of the gospel message (see Rom 10:9). But note that the gospel message was preached by Jesus and His disciples before Jesus died and resurrected (see Matthew 4:23; 9:35; Luke 4:43; Luke 8:1). Remember that Jesus sent the twelve and the seventy to preach the gospel at different times, and He Himself went around preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Some have argued that the good news of the kingdom only arrived after Jesus resurrected, but today's Bible verse shows that they are wrong.

Why is it important to know this? Because Christians must understand that the teachings of Christ are the foundation and pillar of Christian doctrine. They are not to be discarded as Old Testament text not meant for Christians.

When Jesus commissioned His apostles to go into the world and make disciples of nations, he instructed them to teach the new disciples to obey everything He has commanded them (see Mat 28:20).

Go into today knowing that if what the Lord taught does not appear to align with your understanding of the gospel message, your understanding is wrong.

Psalms 34:18 (KJV)
18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Murphy came out of his car and saw how badly damaged it was. A crowd had gathered already, and many were waiting to beat up the reckless drunk taxi driver who bashed Murphy's car. To everyone’s surprise, he only looked up and said “thank you Lord” and drove off. 'How could he not fight or at least get angry' was one of the many comments that ensued. Luis, one of the onlookers who knew Murphy, later met him and asked: “Why were you so calm? You were not even disturbed?” Murphy smiled and asked 'can a broken pitcher hold water?' 'No' Luis responded.

Murphy: Have you noticed that after you became born again, you still do things you really should not do again? You do not want to do them because you know they are wrong, but you still do them?

Luis nodded in agreement.

Murphy: The reason is because you are not yet broken.

Like a clay pot (pitcher), you can no longer hold offenses and sin once you are broken. The reason you respond with anger when pushed to the wall, or give in to evil when under pressure, is not because of the offense or the pressure itself, it is because you still have room for offenses and sin in your heart.

Someone who is broken has come to the end of himself. He has no more confidence in the flesh (or the power of his will), but depends solely on the grace of God and yields his body to the power of this grace. This is the way to live victoriously in Christ.

Go into today remembering that by [human] strength shall no man prevail (see 1 Sam 2:9). But with God, we are more than conquerors.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to fill you with His strength (grace) to prevail.

Luke 16:10, 12 (NLT)
10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?

Emeka became more successful than his friends in business because when he was an apprentice, he was more fully committed than all his friends. This was where he learned diligence and acquired all the attributes and skills that made him walk in the blessing. His friends were self centered and irresponsible apprentices.

We have established from God’s word that God wants his children to be wealthy and to dominate the earth. Why is it then that only a few believers tend to prosper here on earth even though their souls have been saved and blesssed (they should have more effective and sound minds for prosperity)?

Jesus in Matthew 6:33 (KJV) says “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” And we know that the blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it (Prov 10:22).

But many have looked for wealth and riches in every other place but God, they have used the principles of the world while attempting to walk in the blessing of God (it doesn’t work). And many who would have walked in the blessing are failing the test of faithfulness.

That little responsibility you have now, that job you are managing (even though another man’s) is your testing ground for faithfulness.

Prayer: confess every unfaithfulness and thank God for the true riches He is entrusting to your hands.
