1 Peter 3:21 (ESV)
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Ken: Have you been baptized?

Jesse: No, sir. What is the importance of water baptism sir?

Pastor Ken: First, Jesus instructs that we should be baptized this way, so it has to be really important (Matt 28:19). It is an act of submission because it is done in obedience.

Water baptism is so important that a very significant event in human history happened to prefigure it. This event was the salvation of Noah and his household through water (see 1 Pet 3:20). Also, when Israel passed through the red sea, this prefigured water baptism (see 1 Cor 10:1-2). In both cases, the water separated the people of God from their communication and connection with the world. After the flood, Noah and his household began a new life separate from the old world, and after the Israelites passed through the red sea that destroyed Pharaoh and his army, there was no going back to Egypt. That was their final separation from Egypt.

Water baptism is an act of salvation. This is made clear in today's Bible text (Baptism… Now saves you) and in other Bible verses (see Mark 16:16, Matt 28:19, John 3:5). It is not a symbol, but an act. It is an appeal to God for a good conscience, an act of total separation (death) from the world and resurrection to new life in Christ Jesus. This act has its effect on the conscience of the believer who is baptized (see 2 Pet 3:21). Jesus says 'He that believes AND IS BAPTISED shall be saved (Mark 16:16). (To be continued).

Go into today remembering that every instruction of the Lord Jesus is very important and good for you.
