1 Corinthians 3:18 (NET)
Guard against self-deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

Certain incidences had revealed to Agu that he did not have so much spiritual stature and authority in the kingdom. He knew this when he spent time with some missionaries and saw how much of Christ’s authority they walked in and even exerted over their environment.

Jesus could command the storm and speak to the fig tree because of this authority. Paul could effectively be a witness for Jesus in the darkest places of the world and was dreaded by demons because of this authority.

Agu now knew that even though kingdom authority is inherited, we have to grow into it.

Before he became born again, he was a very wealthy man in this world and was vast in the wisdom of this world. He now wanted the greatness of the kingdom of God but was still using the wisdom of this world.

Many principles in the kingdom of God are antithetical to that of the kingdom of this world. For example, Jesus says those who are great in the kingdom of God are determined by their extent of service to others, not by the extent to which people serve them (see Matt 20:25-28). But it’s the opposite in this world. Also, in the kingdom of God, it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35), but in the kingdom of this world, it is considered more beneficial to get than to give.

If a person thinks he is wise [according to the standards of this world], that wisdom is very useless and cannot take him far in the kingdom of God. If he tries to use that kind of wisdom to advance in the kingdom of God, he will realize that he is making no progress.

One of the reasons we must pay attention to the ministry of the word and prayer is because this is the way God recalibrates our minds to the standards of His kingdom so we can grow.

1 Corinthians 3:17 (NET)
If someone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, which is what you are.

Pastor Gbade’s joy was not full because he had godless and unruly children. He kept wondering why God did not save his children and do the one thing he wanted the most in life. He decided to take time again to seek the face of the Lord concerning this matter. After praying for three days and crying to the Lord concerning his godless children, the Lord told him that 'He that destroys my temple I will destroy'.

Immediately, he understood that the problem was because of the deceitful way he had handled the word of God all these years. Unlike Apostle Paul, he couldn't say "we have not handled the word of God deceitfully"(see 1 Cor 4:2). He had taught things and done things he knew were wrong just because they would bring in more money.

Notice that just before Apostle Paul wrote today's Bible verse, he wrote that those whose work (as ministers among the Corinthians) will be found to be wanting will suffer loss on judgment day. He is now giving the real reason why this can happen.

You see, it is a big deal to God for His children to suffer loss. But this can happen if these children are found to have destroyed His temple rather than build it. Those whose works will burn up on judgment day were not really builders, they are destroyers disguised as builders.

When a minister gathers people and refuses to feed them with the sincere milk [and meat] of God's word, but rather feeds them with adulterated and tainted milk, such a minister is a destroyer of God's temple rather than a builder. That is why such will suffer loss on judgment day and only be saved as though through the fire.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you build accurately so that you would receive a reward and not relegation.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Franca was facing a lot of attacks that made her weary and almost paranoid. She knew that the enemy of her soul was out to destroy her, but she did not seem to have enough strength to resist the assault against her soul.

One day, as she was reading the Bible, she saw that she had marked 1 Cor 3:16, so she read it again and again. After reading it for about seven times, it dawned on her that no one could destroy her because she was the temple of the Lord. This was the word from the Lord that gave her victory over that battle.

You see, God does not play with His temple that he dwells in. Anyone who attempts to destroy His temple will be inviting a battle from God Himself. No one can stand this.

It is important for you to know who God has made you and know the things that have been freely given to you. This is one of the reasons the Holy Spirit was given to you. He facilitates this kind of knowledge (see 1 Corinthians 2:12). This Knowledge activates faith, and it is through faith that we take possession of what we have been given by the Lord.

Go into today remembering that you are the temple of the living God. You are precious in God's sight, and because of this, no one can destroy you (whether man or demon): No one can destroy your finances, your marriage, your career, your health, your business, etc.

Prayer: thank you Lord for making me your temple. I ask for Strength to keep your temple holy. Amen.

John 12:24 (KJV)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Agriculture and farming is very important to the sustenance of a nation. It's amazing how a tiny grain of seed can reproduce, be processed and be packaged in different forms, in order to feed many. Many, however, don't care about how it all works. They forget that before products are ever placed on store shelves as food, a seed was sacrificed and buried.

Many believers have also forgotten that God's Word calls us the planting of the Lord, which means that we are also seeds. At our new birth, we become seeds in His hands, which afterwards must then go through the process of dying in order to bear fruit (Isa 61:3, Lk 9:23)

From our Bible verse, it is inevitable for us to die and it doesn't necessarily mean physical death, but rather, it means us sacrificing daily our fleshly man for the sake of maintaining our oneness with Christ. When this becomes our life's pattern, His desires will then become our own desires, prompting us to act in faith by way of evangelism, to the conversion of souls of men from being worthless weeds destined for destruction, into valuable, life carrying and seed-bearing fruits by the help of the Holy Spirit. This is what bearing fruit and feeding the nations is all about (Jn 15:1-17).

It is one of the clearest ways by which the sincerity of our love for God is proven. Just like Jesus asked Peter to sacrifice his life for the sake of feeding the church, He is also asking us today to give up ordinary fishing (pursuing things that appeal to the flesh) and instead become fishers of men by feeding them with the Word of God (Matt 4:19 Matt 28:19, Jn 14:15, Jn 21:16-19).

Go into today, denying the flesh for the sake of Christ and as you do so, your life will become an epistle that will feed men with the life of God until they receive salvation.

1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (NKJV)
If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Some have said that as long as they escape hell fire, they are fine, they do not need any reward. Some have even quoted the psalmist by saying they would rather be a doorkeeper in God's house than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. They fail to realize that in this, the psalmist was talking about service in God's house (Doorkeepers are servants) -- service for which an eternal reward would be due.

Anyone who tries to downplay the reality of service and reward in the kingdom of God does this because he does not understand the kingdom. Many of the times Jesus taught about the kingdom of God, He taught about service and reward in the kingdom (Matt 5:12, Luke 19:11-27, Matt 25:14-30, etc).

Somebody once argued that seeing the kingdom of God was the same thing as inheriting the kingdom of God. I simply asked if the word 'see' and the word 'inherit' meant the same thing.

On the day when we believers will stand before the Lord to give an account of our stewardship here on earth, some will receive rewards while some others will suffer loss.

Some will sit with the Lord on thrones and rule the universe with Him forever, but others will not have that privilege. They will suffer loss because even though it was their destiny as sons of God to inherit the kingdom of God [as joint heirs with Christ], their work has disqualified them from their inheritance and thrones. They would be saved but would have lost their inheritance through the fire of judgment.

Go into today remembering that how we spend our relatively short time here would determine how we would spend the rest of eternity.

1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (NET)
If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each builder’s work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test what kind of work each has done.

Samuel was discouraged because even though he had a burning desire to serve God, he did not believe he had received any grace to serve God from the pulpit. He tried, but he realized that he did not have grace to serve in that way. It took him time to realize that even though he did not have a pulpit, he had a platform, and his platform was as important to God as a pulpit.

Daniel (in the Bible) never had a pulpit, but he fulfilled God's assignment for his life through a circular platform. He could do this because he understood that even though he was in the world, he was not of the world.

Whatever it is you are doing as a believer, you are building something and you will give account for it before the Lord on that day.

How do we build on the foundation? We build on the foundation by ministering to people according to the grace that has been given to us (see Rom 12:6-9). As believers, we have gifts that differ according to the grace that has been given to us (see Rom 12:6). The way we serve with these gifts determines what we are building with.

Go into today remembering that whether you know it or not, your life is building something that will be tried on that day.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you live a life that pleases Him in all respects.

Chris didn’t want to fail in ministry so he started employing methods he knew were not acceptable to the Lord, but these methods made him successful according to the standards of the world.
He was no more concerned about the souls of men that the Lord sent him to but was only now concerned about his reputation and his honor.

He had a dream and the Lord rebuked him and showed him how far from the plan he had wandered. He knew he had to undo many things he had done and destroy many systems he had established. But he knew that that was the only way his service was going to be acceptable before the Lord.

When the focus of the minister shifts from building up people to building up an earthly empire, that minister has started building with material that will be consumed on the day of judgment.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you build according to His will. Ask the Lord to show you every way you may be building wrongly and help you to correct it.

1 Corinthians 3:11 (NET)
For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ.

The first time I started handling construction projects as a young civil engineer, one of the things I quickly observed was that a construction project is not better than the skill of the craftsmen involved. No matter how good an engineer is, if he has poorly skilled workers, his work will not come out very well.

I also observed that among craftsmen, those who were exceptionally good were usually good in certain selected aspects of their craft.

For example, even though every Mason can do certain basic things like laying blocks, setting concrete, etc. There are certain masons that are particularly good at plastering walls. Even though these masons may also be good in laying blocks and foundation, they are particularly exceptional in plastering walls, and that is the service they have great demand for. I observed that workmen who found their special area of strength and focused on it were the ones who were always busy because of high demand.

Paul knew that His job in God's building project was to lay foundations, and this he did and focused on. Remember that he previously explained to the Corinthians that he (and other ministers ministering to them were God's workers) and they (the Corinthian brethren ministered to) were God's building (see 1 Cor 3:9).

Paul is now making it clear that there is no other foundation but Christ. That was why he said earlier that he chose to know nothing among them but Christ and Him crucified (see 1 Cor 2:2).

Go into today remembering that the most important part of any building is its foundation. Anyone who does not accept the Lordship of Christ [over his life] is not saved. This is the foundation of every other thing in the kingdom.
Ask the Lord to help you identify and focus on your specialty in God’s building project.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NET)
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.

As Ebele grew in the knowledge of the Lord, he realized that he also grew in grace. He also realized that the Lord opened greater doors for him to do greater things. But because he had learned his lesson, he was careful not to get involved in things that he wasn’t sure the Lord was leading him to do. This training and carefulness kept him from many distractions that the devil sent his way to weary him.

The devil does not usually distract Good people with bad and evil things. He usually distracts Good them with good and noble things, but these things are not what they have received grace to do. He does this because he knows that no matter how good your intentions are, and no matter how noble they are, if it is kingdom work, you would only be wasting your time if you start building without first receiving a pattern from the Lord. Your hard work and labor will not amount to much and would not be a great threat to the kingdom of darkness if the work you are doing was not ordained by the Lord for you to do.

Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles, but it was not every gentile nation that the Lord was leading Him to.

Go into today remembering that grace always flows in the direction of God’s will. When a person gives himself an assignment because of sheer passion without heavenly sanction, he would have to continue in his strength. This is why there are many fallen soldiers.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NET)
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.

For several months, Ebele was almost getting frustrated in ministry because even though he got people to accept the Lord Jesus, he found that many of them were not growing at all, and because of this, many went back to the world.

But as Ebele grew in ministry, he realized that the grace given to him had to do more with laying the foundation than building on the foundation. Others had been given the grace to build on the foundation and he now learned to create room for their ministry. He became much more effective in ministry when he stopped laboring in areas the Lord has not given him the grace.

In accordance with the grace that was given him, Apostle Paul laid the foundation of God’s building work (of souls) in Corinth, and others built on it. He understood his grace and walked within its ambit.

It is important for us as ministers of the gospel to know the kind of grace given to us and walk within the ambit of that grace. Many people have walked as though they were not anointed because they did not discern and walk within the ambit of the grace they received. It is like a fish struggling to run on land like a squirrel.

There is somebody reading this devotional and you are saying to yourself that “as far as ministry is concerned, I am like an amphibian. I can do all things in ministry”. I would love to refer you to Romans 12:3.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you know and walk within the ambit of your grace.

1 Corinthians 3:9 (NET)
We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Apostle Paul was a tent maker (this made him a builder). He usually built for his clients and received his payment at the end of his job. This was mostly how he sustained himself and paid his bills while ministering the gospel to the pagans.

He used the illustration of building to explain certain truths to the Corinthians. He likened the ministry work he was doing among them to a building project. But just like his building projects, this building was not his own but the Lord’s and he would be rewarded for his work on it.

When he said 'we are God’s coworkers', he was referring particularly to himself and every other minister of God like Apollos who had ministered and were ministering to the Corinthians.

We would see that he went ahead to explain the part of the building he was responsible for, and how others were responsible for other parts of the building. He left a sublime warning to every other person building among the Corinthians to be careful how they build because just like an earthly builder, they would be judged according to how consistent with the master plan their building turns out to be.

Many people have set out to build for God without receiving a building plan. They build because others are building and cannot build properly because they are not building according to the master plan.

Go into today remembering that we are co-workers for the Lord. We do not belong to ourselves, and the work does not belong to us. At the end of the day, we shall give account for our work and be rewarded accordingly.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you build correctly according to His plan.

1 Corinthians 3:8 (NET)
The one who plants and the one who waters work as one, but each will receive his reward according to his work.

When Ebele started preaching the gospel on campus, he noticed that it was very easy for him to bring people to accept the Lord Jesus. Even the most hardened unbelievers were being convicted and repenting. Sometimes, there was the manifestation of the prophetic and the miraculous when he preached, and this made it very easy for him to bring people to see the light of the gospel. But Ebele noticed that it was not that easy for him to disciple the many people he had led to the Lord. This was a great concern to him.

He noticed that one of the brothers in the fellowship had a powerful teaching anointing and was also very successful in discipling people. He started drawing close to this brother and encouraging him to help disciple the many people that had come to the Lord through his preaching. Because of this arrangement, many of those who now believed remained in the Lord and grew greatly.

Many times, there has been a great harvest of souls through powerful gospel crusades and campaigns, but many of those new believers went back to the word because there was no proper follow-up and discipleship. There is the need for those who have the ministry to plant and those who have the ministry to water to begin to work as one. This is when we will take full advantage of the harvest that our Lord has paid for.

The ministries in the body of Christ can be divided into two departments. There are those who plant, and there are those who water. Every Christian must be involved in one of these.

Go into today remembering that everyone will be rewarded according to the work he has done. If you are not doing anything in this regard, it is time to wake up because you will give account of your stewardship before the Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:7 (NET)
So neither the one who plants counts for anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.

One of the biggest temptations set men over ministries face today is the temptation to make themselves count for everything. When this happens, God is no more at the center of the ministry but they. At this point, [from heaven's perspective], such a ministry ceases to grow even if it is physically exploding in growth. One of the signs of this is that such a ministry would cease to make disciples of Christ, but would only succeed in cloning people after the image of the set man. People who do not know God, but know the motions and the lingo. People whose lives do not bear fruit because even though their heads are full, their hearts are empty.

It is instructive that in today's Bible verse we see that Paul said 'neither he that planted (Paul) or he that watered (Apollos) counts for anything...' Paul understood this truth and God remained at the center of the ministry.

The error of people-centered ministry usually begins when the set man (or men) begin to think that they are responsible for the growth in the ministry. They forget that only God could have given such growth. If this mindset is not checked, the ministry would gradually shift from a Jesus centered ministry to a man-centered ministry.

Go into today remembering that it is only God-centered ministries that count before God. Remeber that everyone’s work will be tested by fire and some will suffer loss on that day because they did not build according to God’s pattern(see 1 Cor 3:14-15).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you build in such a way that on that day you will not suffer loss but will receive a reward.

1 Corinthians 3:5-6 (NET)
What is Apollos, really? Or what is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, and each of us in the ministry the Lord gave us. I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow.

When Jide became a pastor, his major concern was church growth. He wanted people to come in their numbers to the local church assembly he led. He was expecting growth and asking for growth, but wasn't planting and watering. His idea of church growth was simply limited to numerical growth which was a result of creating a conducive worship environment for people who came by invitation to want to come back.

The method of growth he expected was one that took advantage of what others have planted. He was not making any effort to bring sinners into the kingdom of God. All his effort was focused at causing people who already believe to leave their churches and start coming to his own.

Before you can expect God to give increase to any work of ministry you do, there has to be planting, and there has to be constant watering.

You cannot separate real church growth from evangelism and active discipleship. It could be media (radio, television, print) or house to house evangelism, but there has to proper evangelism and proper discipleship for there to be proper church growth.

There is the increase that God gives and there is the false increase that man orchestrates. To receive the increase that God gives, the ministry must be involved in planting and watering.

Go into today remembering that soul winning and discipleship is the most important assignment of any local church assembly. The devil will always try to distract the church from the core assignments into focusing on other less important but high sounding things.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to show you how to properly plant and water so that His increase will come to every work He has entrusted you with.

Acts 8:34-35 (NKJV)
So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.

I found this quote: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt", on a website, and saw that it had an unknown source. Searching further, I saw it was attributed to Abraham Lincoln in a post, while elsewhere, it was credited to a man named Mark Twain. But sadly, unknown to most, this quote has its roots directly from the Word of God (Pro 17:27-28). So are many wise sayings which form principles by which societies in the world abide by today. They have their roots in scriptures but have been reworded and secularized, to exclude Christ as their source.

From our Bible text, it is evident that all books of the Bible (Old and New Testament) point to the Messiah as their central theme. None should be overlooked because of lack of understanding, but rather, they should be studied, for in them Christ is revealed. Like Philip, we will also encounter unbelievers who are familiar with certain verses or quotes from the Bible. In such situations, we must be ready to show them Christ as the true source.

This will happen if we decide to spend more time in his word and with prayer, allow the Holy Spirit reveal its meaning to us. As an assurance from God, if we live this way, we will always have a response to give about our faith without fear, as we witness to others (Lk 21:14-15, 1Jn 2:27, 2 Pet 3:14b-15).

Go into today with the awareness that Christ is the focus throughout all the pages of the scripture. And as you spend time studying His word, you will not be put to shame (2 Tim 2:15).

Galatians 1:10 (AMPC)
10 Now am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah).

Mary’s friends were really cool. They were lively, amiable, and smart and they also all attended fellowship in school. But as they were preparing for their 100level examination, they began to make plans on how to ‘collaborate’ in the exam hall. Mary knew this was wrong as it was exam malpractice. She expected Sheila to say something, this was because Sheila belonged to the prayer band and was considered the most spiritual among them. But to her surprise, Sheila not only didn’t correct them, but went ahead to suggest the sitting arrangement. What could she do? Was she to be the one to point out that this was wrong? Won’t they think she is being ‘holier-than-thou’ if she says something?

But you see, the child/servant of God must have only one person he seeks to please; God. His loyalty to God must be complete. To do this he must trust God’s love and wisdom. That is, he must know and believe that God’s love for his friends (and the world indeed) is greater than his love for them, and that God's way is always better. Our minds must be configured to always seek God’s approval above every other person’s. We must be like the 2 Tim 2:3-4 soldiers whose sole aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted us.

If that were Mary’s state of mind, she would have no trouble pointing out to her friends that their plans were wrong and that she could not be a part of it should they choose to go ahead with it.

Approach life today with this understanding; only God’s approval has eternal rewards.

1 Corinthians 3:4 (NKJV)
For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not carnal?

Gbolabo was made to believe that their church was the only living church and most other Christians out there were not true Christians because they didn't dress like the people in his church and believe in their apostle.

But when he went to the university, he met other believers and he could not deny that they knew the Lord. He had a roommate that practically walked in the miraculous. One day, another roommate of theirs was very ill and was looking like he would die. As soon this other roommate came around, he laid his hand on the sick roommate and started praying in tongues. He prayed this way for about ten minutes, and it was clear that he was praying with great power in the Spirit. By the time he removed his hand from the sick roommate's head, he was totally healed. This experience made Gbolabo ask the roommate that prayed what his secret was. This was how Gbolabo was intruded to faith building books and to a life of prayer. As Gbolabo began to read these books and develop a more intimate relationship with the Lord through prayer, he grew spiritually and became more open-hearted. He was no longer denominationally minded.

We can see from today’s Bible verse that a sign that a believer is not spiritually mature is that he will have party spirit. He will be such that believes that there are no real Christians outside his denomination, or that his understanding of the gospel is the only accurate one and every other believer is fake.

We all have different persuasions, but there is one thing that makes a person a believer. Believing and accepting the Lordship of Christ Jesus and living under this Lordship. Anyone that denies this is not a believer.

Go into today remembering that when a person looks down on other believers, he is not rightly discerning the body of Christ, and that is very dangerous.

1 Corinthians 3:3 (NET)
for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people?

A preacher read yesterday's devotional and was quite confused because he did not know how to determine when his listeners are spiritually mature. He also wondered if a time would come when all the people listening to him would be mature enough for him to teach them the mysteries of the kingdom since new believers were added daily.

A couple of times, I have found myself preparing a sermon, but found it almost impossible to deliver to the people. But as I depend on the Holy Spirit, I receive an entirely different message for them. When a minister yields to the Holy Spirit, he would find that he cannot teach some things to certain people because they are not yet ready for it.

In today's Bible text, we can see that Apostle Paul knew how to discern those who are spiritually mature from those who are spiritual babies.

The major way to identify mature believers is that they are spiritual. They are controlled by the Spirit and no more by the flesh.

For example, if you see believers who are worldly, or who easily quarrel, or get angry easily, it is most likely because they have not grown up spiritually.

Spiritual growth is not primarily a function of how long you have been a believer, it is a function of how yielded you are to the Lord; how submitted you are to His will. Those who are given to the study of the word and prayer grow faster than those who are not.

Go into today remembering that those who are still spiritual babes do not walk in their spiritual authority. This is the reason why believers can still be walking under limitations imposed by the kingdom of darkness.

1 Corinthians 3:1-2 (KJV)
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

When Maureen had her first child, her mother came from the village to help take care of the baby. Two months later, Maureen had to travel to take a very important professional exam she had missed because of pregnancy illness. She made enough breastmilk available in the refrigerator for the baby. Her mother knew exactly what to do to warm the milk and feed the baby. But there was an unexpected power outage for three days and the milk went bad. Maureen’s mother tried feeding the baby with baby formula, but he rejected it every time. She eventually decided to try feeding him with custard, and he loved it. The next day, she noticed that he was running a fever. When they got to the doctor, the doctor said the fever was because the baby found it difficult to digest the custard. He recommended another baby formula that the baby liked.

After Paul preached the gospel in Corinth, he started teaching the new believers the rudiments of the faith (see Heb 5:1-2). Just like an experienced doctor, he knew that if you feed spiritual newborn babes anything other than doctrinal milk, it would be difficult for them to comprehend, and it may cause spiritual disease instead of spiritual growth.

One of the most troubling things I see today is teachers teaching spiritual babes doctrines that are meant for the spiritually mature. When these spiritual babes, in turn, begin to teach these doctrines from their imperfect understanding, they end up teaching heresy.

Joshua 17:15 (NKJV)
So Joshua answered them, “If you are a great people, then go up to the forest country and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, since the mountains of Ephraim are too confined for you.”

Have you ever felt confined and like you're not living or operating at the level you know your God-given abilities can take you? If yes, then you're not alone as this seems to be the case for almost everybody.

From our scripture text, the Ephraimites saw themselves as big but were not ready to prove it where it mattered. In truth, they, just like us, were indeed a people of great heritage who have been commanded by Christ to occupy till He comes (1 Pet 2:9, Lk 19:13 KJV).

The problem isn't a lack of inheritance for us believers to dominate in various spheres of our society, but lack of boldness to step into these areas in faith. Not only must we clear the forest of doubt, we must also be ready to confront the demonic giants already on the ground.

We must know for sure that these giants, regardless of how they appear, won't vacate for us to occupy without it being forceful. However, our response must be like Joshua's; that we have great power and with that power, we are able to drive them out (Jos 17:17-18, Matt 11:12, Mk 16:17, Acts 1:8)

Go into today with the understanding that you possess the greatest Power in Christ Jesus to reign in life and that you cannot be confined or limited by any situation.

Psalms 125:3 (NKJV)
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

A certain man bought a piece of land from a seller, but unknown to him, that same piece of land was sold to someone else by fraudsters. When it was time for him to start building, he was met with fierce opposition and big conflict. This was the case until after two years, he obtained a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) and was able to silence his opposition and occupy his land with it.

As the C of O (a government-issued document) is to certify building compliance and indicate the suitability of its condition for occupancy, so also is faith [a spiritual evidence], to certify our compliance in upholding God's law and our eligibility to occupy all that God has qualified us to inherit by grace (Heb 11:1, Rom 3:31, Col 1:12).

Unless we act in faith, our wicked adversary will remain dominant, making it unsuitable for us to occupy our inheritance, as we would constantly be in a struggle with him over what is rightfully ours in Christ.

God isn't inspired by the duration of time we have spent in a situation or by the volume of our tears shed, rather, He is pleased by our act of faith which comes by us hearing His Word. And by it, He releases His power to help us occupy (Heb 11:6, Rom 10:17, 2 Thess 1:11b).

Go into today motivated to hear and meditate on the word of God. As you do so, faith will come alive within you to give power to your utterances in order to uproot enemy shanties from your life and supply grace to occupy your divine allotment (Mk 11:23, Acts 20:32).

1 Corinthians 2:16 (NET)
For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to advise him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Even though Evan’s best friend was his dog, he was still so lonely and depressed because he had no true human friends. As great a friend of man as dogs are, they do not have the mind of man. They have the mind of dogs and cannot give their humans sound counsel. Unlike other animals, one reason people find it so easy to love their dogs is because dogs have faith in people. Without faith in one another, friendship is difficult.

God created man in His image and after His likeness. Because of this, man has the ability to have the mind of God and be the friend of God.

Being a friend of God is an awesome privilege, one that the devil fears you will ever have. But that is what God wants for you. He doesn't just want to visit you from time to time or through [ever so few] encounters, He wants to come and make His abode with you(see John 14:23).

But this privilege has eluded many because many do not have the mind of Christ. This mind is one of total obedience and submission to God’s authority. It is one that obeys totally because of faith in God. Little wonder Abraham was the friend of God. He was a man yielded to the authority of God because he believed in God. He knew God wanted the best for him.

Go into today knowing that you can be a friend of God. The secret is having the mind of Christ. (see Phil 2:5-11)

2 Kings 6:16 (KJV)
“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them”

Have you ever found yourself in situations where there were overwhelming opposition and obstacles stacked up against you that you saw no way out? Have you ever faced circumstances so against you that you felt all hope was lost and that deliverance was impossible? Well, you are not the first.

In the Bible, we find a number of people who found themselves in same circumstances and felt the same way you did/do. Elisha’s servant was one of such persons. In the text above, they had just been compassed about by horses, chariots and a great host of the Syrian army. It seemed like their numbers were up; like they should start saying their last prayers. His heart had melted, till he cried, “Alas, my master! how shall we do?”.

Elisha answered that there be more with us than with them, therefore do not fear. There is something these saints of old knew and understood, we must have that same understanding if we must walk in the victories that they walked in.

Now hear Hebrews 12:22 “But ye are come to mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels”

We have an innumerable company of angels at work for us. They are sent to minister for us (Heb 1:14), He gives his angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways (Psalms 91:10-12). It is why you find that in 2nd Kings 6:17 when the eyes of Elisha’s servant was opened he saw angels as chariots of fire round about them, and their deliverance was wrought by the ministry of angels.

Go into today with this understanding; fear not! Regardless of circumstances, we have the advantage, always.

IMMUNE TO JUDGMENT

1 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV)
But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

When the Lord said 'judge not' in Matthew 7:1, He was talking to His disciples, and the context was a Christian disciple judging another disciple. That Sermon [on the mount] started in Matthew 5 after His disciples came up the mountain to meet Him (see Matt 5:1). in the sermon, He instructed them not to judge one another, that was why he said if you see a spec in "your brother’s" eye. the context here is "your brother" not "your neighbor", indicating that He is talking to disciples.

Today’s Bible verse reveals that even though the spiritual man has the ability to judge all things, no one has the ability to rightly judge him. For indeed, those who would be counted worthy to inherit the kingdom of Christ and reign with Him would also judge all men and even the angels (see 1 Cor 6:2-3). But even they are not qualified to judge each other correctly, no one is. The only Person able to judge them is their Lord and master (see Rom 14:4). This applies to spiritual believers and not carnal believers because walking in the flesh excludes a believer from immunity to judgment and condemnation (see Rom 8:1 in KJV, Rom 8:13).

Before Satan can afflict anyone, he must first have grounds for judgment and condemnation against him. These grounds do not exist for the spiritual man (whose life is ruled by the Holy Spirit). Even if a spiritual man falls, he rises again and does not stay there and create grounds for judgment.

Go into today remembering that there is no judgment and condemnation for the spiritual man. The only thing that can make him walk in a way deserving of judgment is when he becomes carnal by continuing to unrepentantly walk in the flesh.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to always walk in the Spirit.

Song of Solomon 8:7 (NKJV)
Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love All the wealth of his house, It would be utterly despised.

Until Joe was trained and had the opportunity to work in a refinery, he always wondered why its flare stack stayed lit. This fire was strong and glowed from afar in such a way that even the strongest of winds or the heaviest of rains couldn't put it off. Though fed by an obsolete and environmentally unfriendly process, its burning heat meant that the refinery operated in safety while it transformed raw crude oil into refined products.

Our Bible text likens love to an unquenchable flame. It is the greatest and the most powerful force in the whole universe. It is also the most important flame in the life of a believer which must never go out if he desires to fulfill God's purpose (1 Cor 13:13, 1Jn 4:16, Jn 15:9-10).

However, as powerful as love is in the life of a believer, there's an enemy who can weaken its power if he succeeds in supplanting it with a counterfeit known as lust. By this deception and temptation, the flame of love in a believer can wax cold, with sin as the main fire suppressant (Matt 24:12, Jam 1:14-15).

Also, believers cannot successfully carry out the great commission without first satisfying the great commandment (Matt 28:19, John 15:17). The former is what we have been chosen to do, while the latter is our required disposition, through which we can achieve the former successfully.

Go into today, determined to act in love in all you do, holding on to God's word as the real standard on what true love is (1Cor 13:1-13).

Revelation 2:5 (NKJV)
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

A Pastor on a journey happened to pass by an old derelict steel company. As he did, he began to wonder what became of its fiery furnace now lying cold, what happened to its workers, what happened to its societal role in processing metals for industrial purposes, and what are the economic implications due to its shut down? When analyzing these thoughts from the perspective of his own life's lamp, he eventually had to re-examine himself.

Many have reached great heights and have done exploits in their walk with God only for them to deviate and fall away when they move away from the simple, pure and unchanging Gospel to focus on other activities, all in the name of ministry (Rev 2:4).

While many of these activities are beneficial in edifying and promoting the faith of believers, the main focus must remain on the reaching out to and bringing dead souls back to life through preaching the Gospel (Matt 28:19-20).

From our scriptural text, we must go back to our true assignment of being a light in leading the lost to Christ, instead of being distracted by seemingly good activities, otherwise, we risk losing our usefulness to God and live in danger of being replaced whilst holding on to religious titles, supposing we are still on track (1 Sam 2:30;35, 1 Sam 15:13-29, Matt 5:13).

Go out into the world today and tell others about Jesus Christ and His saving grace and as you do so, your light will continue to shine for all eternity (Dan 12:3).
