1 Corinthians 4:8 (NET)
Already you are satisfied! Already you are rich! You have become kings without us! I wish you had become kings so that we could reign with you!

Gbenga and his wife were fond of criticizing and judging servants of God. They were experts at searching out faults of men of God and criticizing them (many of their criticisms were based on false assumptions and partial truths). They felt they had the authority to do this because they believed they were spiritually gallant and were now great people in the kingdom of God who had the authority and the ability to judge. Their main reason for this feeling was because materially speaking, things were going well for them, and they felt this was a function of their spiritual might. But they were wrong. They were still spiritual babes who needed to be taught the rudiments of the faith. But with this mindset, they could not be taught and could not be fruitful.

Like the church in Laodicea (Rev 3:17), the young church in Corinth began to have a false sense of security because of their worldly riches. Physically speaking, they were doing well and had money. They thought because of how things were going well for them physically, it was an indication of their advancement and greatness in the kingdom of God. Many of them believed that they had become kings and rulers in the kingdom, and they felt they now had the authority to judge the servants of God and compare one to another(see 1 Cor 4:3-6). But they were wrong, they were still spiritual babes (see 1 Cor 3:1) and were heading for the rocks without the apostolic intervention of Paul.

If criticizing ministers of God has become your ‘spiritual gift’, it is a sign of spiritual immaturity and retrogression.

Go into today remembering that the real measure of spiritual might is faithfulness and humility.
