DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORD OF GOD?

Download Today's Audio here☞ bit.ly/aud1809

Matthew 13:19 (KJV)
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

The power of the word of God is in its understanding; the word is powerful in your life to the extent to which you understand it.

Paul in Ephesians 1:17-21 prayed like this: “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”

Did you know that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power at work in you? There should be no dead situations in your life because of this power. But if there is, could it be that you are yet to understand the word of God with respect to those situations?

Go into today asking the Holy Spirit who is the author of the word to help your understanding so that you would begin to enjoy the riches of the glory of His inheritance for you.

THEN THE LORD WILL TAKE ME UP

Download Today's Audio here☞ bit.ly/aud1808

Psalm 27:10 (KJV)
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

A little girl read this verse above and went to her parents crying saying “Please, I want God to take me up but I don’t want you to forsake me. Must you forsake me before God can take me up?”

Should we begin to pray that our fathers and mothers forsake us so that God can take us up? What then is the message in today’s scripture?

Actually, God fathered Adam, the progenitor of the over six billion people in the world today. If you read Luke 3:38, you will see that through Adam, God is the father of us all. He expects the believer to know and act with the understanding that He is the father over all. The Sin that hinders the experience of the reality of God as Father has been removed for the believer and he has been born again into God's family through the stronger lineage of Jesus the last Adam.

God is your source. He is the one really responsible for your sustenance. Even if your parents fail or forsake you, God (your source) will sustain you because your sustenance is His responsibility. Just like every spiritual reality we experience, this reality is activated for us by faith.

In Matthew 23:9, Jesus says this: “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven”. So, if your Father is in heaven and He is responsible for you, then your supplies are dependent on heaven's resources and should not be limited by the economic climate around you (see Phil 4:19).

It is after knowing this truth that you can truly approach God as your Father; source, and supplier.

Go into today determined to take your trust away from men and put it in God alone. God has never failed. He can never fail.

THE NEED FOR DISCIPLESHIP 2

Download Today's Audio here☞ bit.ly/aud1807

John 21:15 (KJV)
So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

After Larry submitted himself to discipleship, he was now accountable to his discipler who prayerfully monitored his spiritual progress.

The first day his discipler visited him in his house, he saw that Lary's room was decorated with pictures of indecently dressed female pop stars. He also observed that most of Larry’s music was not spiritually edifying at all. Larry’s discipler took time to explain to him that the environment he created around himself was very important, and the pictures he had on his wall were not appropriate for a spirit-filled child of God. Even though some of those autographed pictures cost Larry a lot of money to acquire, he willingly removed them and destroyed them. He also got rid of all his music that was not spiritually edifying.

His discipler spent some time in his house that day. They ate together, studied the word of God together and took some time to pray. Larry had many questions and many assumptions that were wrong, but his discipler answered his questions and corrected his wrong assumptions.

Larry and his discipler continued to meet regularly, talk on the phone and pray together. Larry observed that because of his interaction with his discipler, he became much stronger spiritually. With time, Larry too became a soul winner and discipler.

Discipleship is the way by which more mature believers feed the Lord’s lambs (newborn believers). Those who truly love the Lord would be involved in this ministry. Many have fallen away not because they did not truly believe but because they were not discipled by anyone.

THE FIRST WORKS AND THE FIRST LOVE

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1806

Revelation 2:5 (NET)
Therefore, remember from what high state you have fallen and repent! Do the deeds you did at the first; if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place – that is, if you do not repent.

Someone asked me what the secret behind staying consistent and growing in the grace of God was, because according him, many who were on fire for God on campus left campus and lost the fire.

Losing the first fire and love is a real existential problem among believers everywhere. The truth is that if there was a time you were closer to God and more on fire for God than you are today, it is a sign that something has gone terribly wrong (see Prov 4:18).

I don't believe it was a coincidence that this was the first matter that came up in the letters the Lord sent to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3.

We see a remedy for this malady in today's Bible verse. Here the Lord tells the believers who have lost their first love to repent and do the deeds they did at first. The way to stay on fire is to never stop doing the deed you did at first.

One reason people lose their first love and fire is because they stop doing the deeds they did at first when they were on fire for God. It’s a slow fade, and this usually comes when believers begin to have the mindset that they have already attained. This mindset is contrary to that of a true disciple (see Phil 3:13-14) . A young man who used to pray for hours when he was on campus now ‘does not have the time’ to pray for more than a couple of minutes because of work or even the demands of growing ministry. A lady who used to spend quality time reading faith building book now only reads novels because they are more interesting and ‘there is nothing new to learn again’.

Go into today remembering that consistency in the works of the first love keeps the fire of the first love burning.

THE NEED FOR DISCIPLESHIP 1

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1805

Matthew 28:19 (NET)
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

After Larry accepted Christ, he realized that he no longer had the desire to be a sinner. But as time passed, he saw that his desire was not strong enough to keep him from his old sinful habits. Each time he fell, he felt uneasy inside because he knew he was not acting in accordance with his new nature. He knew he had received a new nature inside, but he wanted to know how to let this new nature dominate him and no more the old nature. After discussing his challenges with the person that led him to Christ, it became clear to him that he needed to submit himself to discipleship.

Discipleship is God’s educational system for training believers to walk in their new nature through the renewal of their minds by the word(see Rom 12:2). Spiritually mature believers are those who are no more carnal (dominated by the flesh) but are now dominated by the spirit. These are the believers whose lives are now dominated by the kingdom of God and who are striving for their reward in the kingdom.

One very important aspect of discipleship is the ministry of the word and prayer. You cannot disciple people without regularly interceding for them and teaching them the word of God; explaining the mysteries of the kingdom of God to them. Without proper discipleship, new believers will remain spiritual babies and may not abide in the Lord.

Go into today determined to submit yourself to proper discipleship if you are still controlled by your old nature of sin as a believer. If you are a discipler, ask the Lord to multiply your grace for this.

OUR SPIRITUAL JEWISH IDENTITY

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1804

1 Corinthians 10:1 (KJV)
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea

Have you ever wondered why in writing to Gentile (non-Jewish) believers, Apostle Paul referred to the Jewish ancestors who left Egypt as 'our fathers’? Why is Paul sounding as if all the Corinthian Christians were Jews whose fathers were in the wilderness?

This is because Paul understood that everyone in Christ now has the same ancestry as Christ. You see, when Christ came, he came as a Jewish man with Jewish ancestors. Because Jesus could have referred to the prophets of old as 'our fathers', the saints who are now members of Christ can also refer to them as 'our fathers’.

It is worthy of note that in just a few paragraphs before today’s verse, Paul said these words:
To the Jews, I became as a Jew… (1Cor 9:20). This means Paul no longer primarily saw himself as a Jew in the earthly sense. This is the Christian mindset: we are no longer defined according to our earthly identity, but our spiritual identity means we are descendants of Abraham because of our union with Christ who is the true seed of Abraham (see Gal 3:16). Because of this, we are inheritors of the blessing of Abraham (see Gal 3:13-14).

Romans 2:28-29 (NET) For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something that is outward in the flesh, but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit and not by the written code. This person’s praise is not from people but from God.

Go into today thanking Jesus (The king of the Jews) for making you His family.

KNOWING GOD'S NAME

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1803

Psalms 91:14 (KJV)
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Dara was the youngest son in his family. As he grew older, everyone observed that he was the most favored and exalted child from that family. Everything he did prospered and he eventually became the most important and celebrated member of the family because of how much the Lord exalted him. His mother wondered why he was so exalted above everyone else. She later discovered that unlike her other children, Dara knew and feared the Lord from when he was a child, and continued to grow in the knowledge of the Lord.

We see in today's text that God promises to deliver those who love Him and to set on high those who know His name.

It is only those who love the Lord that can know His name. What does it mean to know God’s name? It means to have a personal relationship with the Lord. Knowing God’s name doesn’t mean to just know about God like everybody, it means knowing God and being known by God because you have a personal walk with the Lord.

Go into today desiring to know the Lord more and not just know about Him. Jesus came to make this possible for everyone who believes in Him.

LOVING THE LORD

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1802

Psalms 91:14 (KJV)
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

There are times that it may seem the enemy has come upon us in a way we were not prepared for or able to handle. And whereas we are used to casting out and binding, it would appear as if the situation is immune to all that.

At times like this, we need help from above because it would appear that the enemy we face is too strong for us. See how David puts it in Psalm 18:17 "He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me."

The good news (from today’s Bible verse) is that those who set their love upon God will receive His help and deliverance even when it appears their enemy is too strong for them. Those who love God are those known by God (1Cor 8:3) and the Lord Himself will arise to help them in the time of need. This is a great privilege.

How do we set our love on the Lord? The first way is to appreciate how much He loved us and how much it cost Him to forgive our sins (he that is forgiven much loves much). After realizing this great love that the Lord has lavished upon us, we must determine to dwell in this love and love the Lord with all our hearts. Loving the Lord is a decision we can make, that's why there's a commandment to that effect (see Matt 22:37).

When we truly love the Lord, it would show in our love for His brethren the believers. An undeniable manifestation of love is giving (see John 3:16). If you love the Lord, you would give your life: time, and resources to serving Him and advancing the agenda of His kingdom here on earth.

RUN TO WIN 3

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1801

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 (NET)
So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air.
Instead I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.

Every race on the track has its rules and regulations. If an athlete does not run properly on the track according to the rules of the race, he would be disqualified.

When you became born again, you were rescued from the kingdom and dominion of darkness and brought into the kingdom of God (see Col 1:13). The kingdom of darkness exerts its control over people through the flesh, but the kingdom of God controls us through our regenerated (Holy Spirit filled) spirits.

In the race of the kingdom, if one does not subdue his body and make it his slave, he would not be able to run acceptably. Anyone who is still controlled by the flesh cannot serve God acceptably because another kingdom still has some influence over him through his commitment to the flesh.

Service to God in any capacity must be orchestrated and directed by the Spirit of God. But a man still governed by the flesh cannot be led by the Holy Spirit because he is being led by the flesh.

The way we identify the works of the flesh is through the word of God. It shows us what the works of the flesh are so that we can identify and reject them.

Go into today remembering that the only way to serve God acceptably is to serve Him in spirit and in truth. Ask the Lord to help you always subdue the flesh and live a life controlled by the spirit.

RUN TO WIN 2

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (KJV)
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Because Temitayo wanted to win the trophy, she was willing to do whatever it took. It became impossible for her to hide this from people around her. Everyone now knew she was an athlete because she was always doing something that showed she was preparing for the championship.

It doesn't take time for people who have to deal with real serious athletes to know that they are athletes. It is very difficult for them to hide this fact about them. It shows.

In the same way, when a believer is really serious about his kingdom assignment and winning his prize, he cannot hide his identity as a believer for long. Any believer who has successfully been able to hide his identity from his coworkers for several months may have been able to do this because he is not really striving for the prize of the mark of the high calling in God. Daniel worked in a most godless environment, but it was impossible for him to hide who he really was. Moses couldn’t either.

When your kingdom assignment takes over you and becomes the most important thing in your life, you will find that you are a witness for Christ everywhere you go. The Holy Spirit would begin to give you insight into people's lives just because He wants you to share the gospel with them.

Go into today remembering that you are first and foremost a witness for Christ in every place He has planted you. Ask the Lord to help you to this end. Ask for the wisdom to be a soul winner.

RUN TO WIN

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1799

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (KJV)
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

When Temitayo started preparing for the championship in tennis, she knew she now had to become temperate in her eating, sleeping, watching movies, etc.

She was told by her instructor that she could no longer eat anything but had to only eat things that maximize energy output. Her life became greatly streamlined because of this championship.

Temitayo made the sacrifices she made because she wanted to win the tennis championship.

We are also in a championship, but this is for an infinitely more valuable incorruptible prize. The devil and his hoards of demons are our contenders. That can't win the prize, but they want to hinder us. The only human beings that can overcome them are those who believe in the Lord Jesus (see 1 John 5:5).

We must maintain a champion's mindset of self-control. We must not let the flesh hinder us. We must always put the flesh under the will of our renewed minds. This is the only way to appropriate our victory over our contenders.

Go into today remembering that the prize you have to win is the reward for faithfully doing the work cut out for you by God. This reward, among other things, will translate to your place of glory and authority in God's eternal kingdom that would never end. Not everyone in the kingdom will receive a reward, some will suffer loss (1 Cor 3:15).

Ask the Lord to help you run in such a way that you would receive your reward (1 Cor 9:24).

GRACE AND TRUTH

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1798

Psalm 51:16 (KJV)
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Luke was troubled because he knew he was not walking in the power of God like he needed to.

He prayed all night almost every night, fasted often, and read his Bible ardently. But he realized that one of his brothers who didn't do as much as he did had a more robust relationship with the Lord and walked more in God's power and glory.

Luke started asking the Lord why despite all his effort, he didn't seem to see more of the Lord’s power and glory in his life as a minister. He knew something was wrong but he did not know what it was. As he kept on asking, the Lord revealed to him one morning that the reason was because he was not a person of integrity in his dealings with people. The Lord reminded him of how he would give his word and fail, make promises and forget, etc. He repented that day and things began to change.

We all desire to walk in greater grace as children of God. Grace is the power of God that makes us live supernatural lives naturally. Jesus was full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Grace and truth go together. A dishonest man cannot walk in great grace. A man who makes his words fall to the ground (in not keeping his word) cannot walk in great grace.

Go into today remembering that the tongue and the power thereof is very important in the appropriation of grace. Those whose lips are deceitful cannot use those same lips to command divine power.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you speak and live for Him. Ask Him to purify your tongue so that you can walk in higher grace (Read Isaiah 6:5-7).

WHO SHALL DWELL IN GOD’S HOLY HILL?

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1797

Psalms 15:1-2, 4 (KJV)
LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

I have come across some very dishonest people whose every intention was to swindle money out of my hand. But that does not bother me like when I come in contact with Christians who have no regard for their word. They fail to keep their word and it doesn't seem to matter to them.
I used to be like that before. My words didn't really matter much to me,  but when I started studying the Bible,  I realized that it was impossible for me to be conformed to the image of Christ and not be full of truth like Christ was. I realized that those who don't work hard to keep their words among men will not have angels working hard to keep their word in the spirit realm.

If you take a close look at today's Bible verses, you will see that truthfulness is a criterion for those who would dwell in the highest levels of fellowship and power with God.  A man who fears God will keep his word even when it is not convenient.

Go into today examining yourself in the light of God's Word. Are you known as someone who keeps your word?

Ask the Lord to forgive every way you may have failed to represent Him in this area.

YOU ARE HERE FOR A PURPOSE

Psalms 40:7 (KJV)
“Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.”

How do I become what God has ordained me to be?

Are you born again? If Yes, God has chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit (John 15:16), He wrote a volume concerning you. So, success is a measure of how much of the volume written concerning you, you have fulfilled.

The volume written concerning you by God was written by the Holy Spirit, who now dwells in you. God gave you the Holy Spirit so He could lead you into all truth.

Knowing purpose has been difficult because many only have the Holy Spirit within them but do not listen to Him. Jesus said in John 16:13 that, “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.”

Your purpose is part of the “things to come” which the Holy Spirit will show to you if you ask Him. You see, to know and do the volume written concerning you, you must know and listen to the Holy Spirit.

Please read Proverbs 8:22-36

Go into today knowing that, the Holy Spirit is the greatest gift you have and can ever have. He will guide you into all truth, speak to you of Jesus and show you things to come. Dare to trust Him.

NOT UNDER THE LAW BUT NOT LAWLESS

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1795

1 Corinthians 9:21 (NET)
To those free from the law I became like one free from the law (though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.

When Ronke got to the university, she met some ‘brethren’ who taught that believers are not under the law therefore sin no longer exists for the believer.

The result of this doctrine was that sexual immorality was rampant in that fellowship. Some members of the fellowship were cultists, and some of the ladies were call-girls.

Ronke who was brought up in the way of righteousness now started despising her upbringing and believing that her parents were not knowledgeable in the ‘mysteries of the gospel’.

She continued to say this until she had her 4th abortion and ruptured her womb. During this period, she almost died and was hospitalized for weeks. None of her fellowship sisters or brothers showed up at the hospital. The only person that kept coming was her roommate (who attended a fellowship Ronke despised because she said they were still under the law in that fellowship). This was when the scales fell off Ronke’s eyes.

In an attempt to preach to believers that they are no more under the [old covenant] law, many have preached lawlessness and produced lukewarm half-baked believers who are potent tools in the hand of the enemy against the advancement of God's kingdom because they are a bad example and are a major hindrance to many seekers of truth from finding the truth of the gospel. This is the reason why Jesus would have preferred for such lukewarm 'believers' to be cold (unbelievers). At least they would not be a stumbling block (Rev 3:15-16).

Go into today remembering that even though you are not under the Old Testament law, you are not lawless but are under the law of Christ.

YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE

Psalms 139:14 (KJV)
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

Lucia failed all through her days as a student. She wrote all her major examinations at least thrice, her parent had written her off and had called her a failure; they even told her that she was mentally retarded. She suffered so much depression that she intended to take her own life. “God, I will read a portion of your word and pray my last prayer and just die, I am tired of living” were her final words. She, however, stumbled on today’s Bible text and for the first time in her life, found someone who called her wonderful—God Himself. By this encounter, Lucia received for the first time an understanding of her person. She ended up becoming very successful in life.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made! Did you know this? Oh, how well do you know this truth?

“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Psalm 51:5)  was King David’s experience until he discovered God’s reality for him, hence, he wrote Psalms 139:14. It was after this that his life changed and he became a man of recon. No wonder he spent his life praising God.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made, you are marvelous. You are made by God to be full of wonders. It is how well you know this that will determine your wellbeing.

How much of yourself have you discovered? You will silence every contention and reproach when you know who you really are in Christ.

Go into today knowing that you are full of wonders and God who wrote your story is subordinate to none. Begin to praise Him for a job well done as you dish out these wonders one after the other.

GOD WILL TURN THEIR HEARTS BACK

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1793

1 Kings 18:37 (KJV)
Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

From this text, we see that God is God, and what that means is that He rules the human heart, He has the power to turn the human heart to Himself. Is there anyone reading this devotional who was once dead in sins with no thirst for Christ at all, but now loves Him, seeks Him, delights in His fellowship and His service? God did that.

Are there any hearts of stone in your family? God says “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stubborn hearts and give you obedient hearts.” (Eze. 36:26). Are there any stiff-necked disobedient hearts in your city or family with zero submission to God’s law? God says “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (Jer. 31:33). Are there any hearts in your family who have gone very far from God and would have nothing to do with Him? God says “And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.” (Jer. 24:7).

Dear friend, Jesus said “There are other sheep which belong to me that are not in this sheep pen. I must bring them, too; they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock with one shepherd.” (John 10:16). Some of these sheep belong to the categories of people outlined above. Jesus wants them in the fold, you should have that same desire for such people. If God turns the heart, there is hope. If He turned your own heart back to Himself, then stand on His word and pray for the other sheep that are not yet in the fold, till He brings them in.

God is God and He turns men back to Himself.

JOY IN THE HOLY GHOST

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1792

Romans 14:17 (KJV)
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

The day Eniola got baptized in the Holy Ghost, he lost his mobile phone on his way to church. This was added to the fact that he had just lost his job and didn't have money to buy another phone. He came to church that night heavy and depressed. But as the servant of God laid hands on him, the Holy Ghost filled him and he started speaking in tongues uncontrollably. No one could stop him–it was an overflow.

The first thing he observed was that the heaviness in heart vanished. He was no more bothered about anything. The joy that filled his heart was like nothing he had ever experienced. All he now wanted was to spend time with the Lord and keep this new sweet presence of the Holy Ghost within him. He knew that with the Holy Ghost, all his problems were no longer an issue.

As weeks passed, he observed that one thing that lasted with him was the peace and joy of the Holy Ghost, and the desire to now please the Lord in all things (righteousness).

One of the signs that a person is filled with the Holy Ghost is joy in the Holy Ghost ( see Eph 5:18-20). The devil knows that if he can get you out of this joy for long, he would hinder you from walking in your spiritual strength because the joy of the Lord is your strength (Neh 8:10).

Go into today remembering that in the kingdom of God, our joy is in the Holy Ghost and not based on other things. The devil will try to steal this joy. Don’t let him succeed. Remember he cannot change the way the Holy Ghost feels about you (Romans 8:31-39).

IF YE CONTINUE IN MY WORD

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1791

John 8:31-32 (KJV)
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Pastor, it is true that after I believed in the Lord Jesus, I began to enjoy God’s peace, and the terrible nightmares stopped. But there are still so many things promised to believers in the Bible that I am not experiencing in my life, even when I have asked God for them. Pastor, what should I do?

Often neglected in sermons is John 8:31, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed”, but without this verse, the popular John 8:32 cannot be experienced.

Believing in Jesus is the initial step to finding the truth; however, there is the need to continued in His word and abide in Him. If you must know the truth, you must continue in Jesus’ word. And through the light of His word, the [Holy] Spirit [of Truth] will guide you into all truth (see Psalm 119:105, John 16:13).

Jesus said, “if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Notice the use of the word “And” in verse 32 shows that it is a continuation of verse 31.

Isaiah 40: 31 (KJV), “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint.

Do you want to enjoy all that is promised you in the word of God? If yes, continue in the word of Jesus.

Ask God for the grace to continue.

CALLED TO PREACH OR TEACH?

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1790

1 Corinthians 9:16 (NET)
For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

When Gbenga was a child, he had several dreams of him preaching on crusade grounds. It looked to him like that was the kind of life the Lord was calling him to live, but as Gbenga grew older and became more encumbered with the vicissitudes of life, he was no longer sure. A time came that more than any other thing in his life, he wanted to certain about his call.

Many have asked me how to know if they are called to preach and teach (all the fivefold ministries involve preaching and/or teaching). My first concern is to be sure they are spiritually healthy.

After it has been established that the believer is spiritually healthy, the next thing to look out for is if there is a burning desire in him to preach, even if there is no [physical] reward or glory.

If spiritually healthy, those with a call need no persuasion to minister. They would be compelled from within to preach. They would be willing to spend their money just to get people to listen to them, etc.

Like Jeremiah, if they try to hinder themselves from preaching, the word will be like fire in their bones (see Jeremiah 20:9). Like Paul, their souls would cry out “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel”.

For a man with a call to preach or teach, no matter what his earthly achievements are, he would not feel fulfilled until he fulfills his call. He would always feel empty and hollow inside, no matter how loaded he is outside.

Go into today asking the Lord to deliver you from every spiritual disease that hinders people from discerning the necessity of their call.

GOD BREATHED SCRIPTURES

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1789

Ephesians 2:20 (KJV)
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

I recently saw a post on social media where a young man was claiming that he had more revelations and Rhema than the apostles did because Jesus said we would do greater works. He went on to rebuke and criticize those he deemed as ‘myopic’ and ‘religious’ brethren who think they cannot have more revelation than what the apostles wrote in the Bible.

People who believe what he believes are those who say things like ‘Paul wrote that because he had not yet received sufficient revelation into the mystery of the gospel’. They are those who teach the ‘deep things of Satan’(see Rev 2:24) and call it the deeper things of the gospel. They forget that All scripture is God-breathed (see 2 Tim 3:16).

Every piece of writing that made it to the Bible (scriptures) made it as a result of God’s divine orchestration.

The Apostles and prophets referred to in today’s Bible text are the ones who wrote the Bible under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Under the inspiration of God, the Old Testament was written by The Prophets, and the New Testament was written by The Apostles. The Church is built on their foundation. Everything they wrote has Jesus as the chief cornerstone.

If tomorrow, we find Apostle Paul’s personal journal and jottings or we discover other letters Apostle Peter wrote to the churches, neither the discovered jottings nor letters would become part of scripture, and would not be treated as such. Many other letters were written by the apostles, but the ones the Holy Spirit allowed to make it into the Bible is now our scripture.

Go into today remembering that the Bible is God's gift to you. It was carefully orchestrated and arranged by the Holy Spirit over many centuries. Any revelation that is 'deeper' than what the scripture reveals is nothing by a false doctrine of men and demons.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to keep you from the spirit of error.

HONOR AND THE BLESSING 2

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1788

1 Corinthians 9:14-15 (RSV)
In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.
But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing this to secure any such provision. For I would rather die than have any one deprive me of my ground for boasting.

When a Child is born into a royal family, even though by heritage, he is a prince and will inherit great wealth, no one will entrust the great wealth into his hands while he is still a child.

We saw previously how that Paul refused to collect offerings from the Corinthians but would rather work with his hands while doing ministry among them. He did this because of the peculiarity of the Corinthians, and he didn’t want anything to be a hindrance to the furtherance of the gospel.

We also saw that in his letter, Paul now taught them that it is a principle of God's kingdom for the people to minister their material things to those who minister spiritual things to them. The fact that the Corinthians didn't understand this was another proof that they were still spiritual babes (see 1 Cor 3:1-3).

Apostle Paul wasn't telling them this because he was trying to raise an offering from them, but because he wanted them to be built up into maturity and walk in the attendant glory. Any believer who has not conquered this mater of giving is still dominated by the flesh. The truth is that those whose hands are closed (with regard to giving) are still spiritual babes, regardless of the gifts in their lives. One sign of spiritual maturity is the ability to give sacrificially.

Go into today remembering that spiritual maturity covers all aspects of your life, especially the way you spend your money.
Luke 16:11 (NET):
If then you haven't been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will entrust you with the true riches?
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you to be faithful to Him in the way you spend your money.

FAITH BEYOND UNDERSTANDING

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1787

John 11:21 (ERV)
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

We live in a time when natural disasters, failed economies, and poverty have resulted in many deaths and great tragedies that so many have been led to ask questions like: If God is truly in charge of things, why would He allow such to happen?

From our text, Martha may have sounded, due to her sorrow as humble in expressing herself but nonetheless, like so many (believers and nonbelievers alike), it was said in ignorance and in a way tried to impugn the faithfulness of God.

While it is good to empathize and sympathize with others in tragedy, we must be careful not to err or join them to err against God because of grief. God owes no man any explanation and for one to question God's faithfulness in a manner that presumes God as answerable to man, is one giving in to the flesh (Matt 12:45-46, Job 42:1-6, Rom 11:35).

Even if our time and effort utilized in serving God haven’t translated into our desired earthly outcome, we must believe that God remains faithful. We may never understand the whys but His faithfulness is revealed in us when by faith, we put our focus on the eternal, above and beyond our own physical redemption (Read Job 19:25-26, Ps 16:8-11, Dan 3:16-18, Lk 23:40-43, Acts 7:56-60, 1Cor 4:16-18, Heb 11:35b).

Go into today encouraged that though your trials may feel overwhelming now, God has promised that He will never leave you (Jn 16:33, Isa 43:2, Heb 13:5).

MATURITY AND THE BLESSING

Ephesians 4:14 (NET)
So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes.

Sandra had a challenge that really troubled her. She was a believer and had certain spiritual gifts, but this challenge proved stubborn. After praying and fasting for months over the issue, she decided to meet her discipler concerning it. He got a prophetic insight into the problem and prayed for her from that standpoint, and the problem was solved. Sandra’s discipler could pray once and solve a problem she had battled for months because through spiritual maturity, he walked in more spiritual might and authority than her.

Sandra knew it was time for her to become spiritually mature and stable.

One attribute of spiritually mature believers is the willingness to give. Babies don’t give anything or contribute anything to the family, but only know how to take. But when babies grow to become responsible adults, they begin to give to their parents and not just take.

There are believers who give to the work of God, but only because they believe that is a way to get more out of God. This is the same ‘take-take’ mentality of spiritual babes.

The spiritually mature give because of love. They give because they know they are blessed [with all blessings in heavenly places], not primarily because they want to be blessed. Spiritually mature believers are stable and are not blown about by every wind of doctrine. They don’t give impulsively because someone promised a breakthrough in return. They give purposedly and cheerfully (2 Cor 9:7) because they see a need and desire to meet it, honor God by giving to His ministers and ministries; and honor God by giving to their parents (both physical and spiritual).

Go into today knowing that your spiritual maturity is determined by your actions. Renounce every way and conduct of spiritual infancy, and you will begin to see the fruits of maturity in your life. The fruits of maturity include spiritual stability, walking in spiritual might and authority, etc.

SECRET OF MULTIPLICATION

Matthew 15:36 (KJV)
And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

“How on earth do you expect me to give out of the little I earn? My needs are almost ten times what I earn; I have always borrowed to meet up. Pastor, that your message on giving is for those who have plenty!”

Luke 6:38 (KJV)
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

There are certain laws that govern existence; one of such is the law of sowing and reaping, planting and harvesting –giving and receiving.

Now, there are many things that you can give, things such as your time, money, materials, and the fruits of your lips which are praises or thanksgiving to God. When Jesus was confronted with the need to feed the multitude and all he had was the little bread and fish, he offered it to God first by giving thanks before giving it to the disciples. The result was a multiplication.

Anything offered to God in thanksgiving would multiply. Give whatever you are giving out of a thankful heart and God will multiply it.

Go into today knowing that you will receive when you give, harvest when you plant and reap when you sow. However, it will be multiplied when you give, sow or plant with a thankful heart.

HONOR AND THE BLESSING

Get Today's Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1783
Further explanations in the audio

1 Corinthians 9:11 (NKJV)
If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things?

When Apostle Paul preached among the Corinthians, because he was very discerning, he knew that they were used to people bringing all kinds of marketing gimmicks and messages for the singular purpose of getting money from them. Corinth was a major metropolitan city in those days, and there were many money seeking speakers of all kinds. This probably made the Corinthians skeptical of any message that would eventually involve them bringing their money.

So even after many among them had believed and become members of the church, Paul still wouldn't collect a personal offering from them because he didn’t want anything to be a hindrance to the furtherance of the gospel among them. He would rather work with his hands as a tent maker to pay his bills. It wasn’t that Paul didn’t collect personal gifts from disciples in other places (for example, we see in Philippians 4:15-16, he collected donations from the Philippians), but he decided not to collect donations while he was among the Corinthians.

In his first letter to the Corinthian church, it was time for them to understand an important spiritual principle that would be a blessing to them. This principle is that those who minister spiritual things to God’s people should receive physical things from them as honor (see 1 Cor 9:4-15).

In Genesis 14:18-20, we see that it was after Melchizedek ministered spiritual blessings to Abraham that Abraham gave him physical gifts (a tithe of all). Abraham understood this spiritual principle. No wonder he is such a blessed man.

Go into today remembering that you are to honor those who minister spiritual things to you. That’s one sure way to honor God who sent them.
