Running to The Rock 2

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1873

Psalms 61:2 (NKJV)
From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Mike was still recovering from the depression of losing his job when he was informed that he was going to be evicted from his house and lose his car because he had been defaulting in his mortgage and car payments. At this point, his relationship with his wife had gone from sweet to sour. Even though he was a believer, his heart was now overwhelmed.

He was greatly encouraged when he saw today’s Bible verse marked in the middle of his Bible. He knew exactly what to do. He told his wife he was going on a retreat to spend some time with the Lord. He spent the whole day alone with God praying and studying His word.

When he returned from the retreat, his wife knew that something had changed about her husband. He was no more irritable and sour. He was now optimistic and positive. Because he ran to Christ the rock when his heart was overwhelmed, his sinking spirit was restored and He came out of that season of his life with great testimonies.

As a believer, your heart cannot be overwhelmed if you abide in Christ by constant fellowship with Him through fellowship with His Word and Spirit, and through fellowship with other Spirit-filled believers. But many times, if we do not keep our fellowship with the Lord, our hearts can become overwhelmed by the pressures of this life. What do we do then?

Those in the world would seek to be relieved by getting drunk with wine or getting high on drugs, etc. But for us who have a relationship with Christ the Rock, we run back to the rock and get filled with the Spirit again. We do this by taking out time to spend with the Lord through prayers and the ministry of the word.

Go into today remembering that God will by means cast away those who come to Him in brokenness and trust. Remember that those who wait on the Lord are those who renew strength and soar in life (see Isaiah 40:31).
