Romans 5:21 (NET)
so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God told Adam that the day he eats of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, he will surely die (see Gen 2:17). As Adam and Eve ate of this fruit,  they truly died and the first manifestation of this death recorded was that the glory of God departed from them, so much so that they now realized that they were naked.

Spiritual death is a separation from the life of God. It is like disconnecting an electrical appliance from its power source. The nakedness of a bright shining bulb cannot be seen while it's still connected to power and shining. But as soon as it is disconnected, it's nakedness and form can be seen and flies can even perch on it.

When our phones run out of power,  we sometimes say 'my phone is dead'  because it cannot function without power. Do you see how useless a phone is when the battery is dead?  That's an illustration of how 'useless'  man is when he is disconnected from the life of God. And that was what happened to Adam and all of humankind after him.

It was because of this disconnection from the life of God that sin reigned. Today's verse reveals that much: "Sin reigned in death". In that state of disconnection from the life of God(death),  sin reigns.
Everyone will be judged for his sins and not for Adam's sin because we did not inherit Adam's sin, we simply inherit his state of death that ensures that sin would reign over us.
The righteousness of Jesus we inherit is the nature that ensures that grace(divine power) reigns in us. And we need to be born again in order to receive this nature

The way many understand grace and righteousness,  they would have rather said righteousness reigns through grace. But that's not what the scripture says(see today's verse). You see,  righteousness is right standing before God. This is received by faith in Christ Jesus. It is this right standing before God that gives us access to God's abundant grace. This grace is what empowers us to walk in [practical] righteousness and reap the reward thereby. Grace also empowers us to walk in the divine nature and live the eternal life.

Go into today remembering that your justification and right standing before God has everything to do with Christ and you receive this by simply believing in Him. After receiving this right standing,  you are expected to let grace reign in your life and live the divine life.

Romans 5:20 (NET)
Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more

Simon was so depressed that he could not pray and didn't even want to go to fellowship. He believed he had failed God too many times and God would not be willing to have anything to do with Him. But after he summoned the courage to go to church that evening,  he heard a sermon concerning the abundant grace of God. He immediately knew that even though his sins were big,  God's grace was bigger. Because he received the forgiveness of God,  he determined to talk to his pastor about his struggles because he didn't want to go back to where he was before he came to church that day. He was guided to some spiritual disciplines that the Lord used to deliver him from bondage to certain sins.

Yesterday,  we saw that grace is like the detergent and effort put into washing a dirty vessel or cloth. The dirtier a cloth, the more the detergent and effort required to wash it. The good thing is that we serve an unlimited God with abundant grace. There is sufficient grace in God to wash the vilest of sinners and turn him into a saint. Even after you have believed and have been washed,  God does not want you to sin and His grace ensures this,  but if you sin,  there is still sufficient grace to cleanse you and make you clean again(see 1John 2:1-2). You have to believe this and not let the devil rob you of your freedom because of guilt and ignorance. Dwelling in guilt would only ensure that you become ensnared to sin,  but receiving the abundant grace and forgiveness of God is the way to receive strength to constantly walk in victory over sin.

Go into today remembering that the abundance of God's grace towards you is greater than any sin and accusation of Satan. Stand in this grace and enjoy God's victory over sin and the devil.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your abundant grace. Please help me walk in it and please you in all things, in Jesus name. Amen.

Romans 5:20 (NET)
Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more

Some children were playing roughly on their neighbor's car and damaging it. Because they were children, even though they somehow knew that what they were doing was not correct, they did not understand the full gravity. Now in order for them to understand the gravity,  their neighbor and their parents gave them clear instructions never again to play on their neighbor's car and told them the consequences,  but they disobeyed their parents' instruction still.

By continuing to play on the car and damage it,  they were now committing two wrongs: they were roughing up their neighbor's car and were now disobeying a direct instruction from their parents and their neighbor. When they damaged their neighbors bumper and he forgave them by paying for the repairs,  he was forgiving them for two great offenses, and for this, they were truly grateful (because as teenagers, they knew he could press charges and have them prosecuted). Their neighbor did not only forgive those kids for roughing up his car(which they intuitively knew was wrong), but he forgave them for also disobeying and disregarding his instructions and warnings against their actions(the disregard was more painful).

Man committed sin from the beginning,  but without the law,  we did not know how dangerous sin was(it was the law that showed us that the wages of sin is death). God gave Man a conscience that acts as a law within him(see Rom 2:14-15),  violating that conscience is sin in itself,  but when the law came,  sinning was now double transgression. The one was violating the principle of life, and the other was disobedience to the commands of God. Because of the law,  sin became  even more sinful and offensive(a double violation). Thus, the grace that made us free from the filthiness and consequences of sin had to much more abound.

Grace is like the detergent and effort put in to wash a filthy vessel. Grace is God's effort to wash away the filth of our sins and make us clean and justified to stand before Him and share in His divine nature. You would agree with me that the dirtier something is,  there would be more detergent and work required to clean it.
Where sin increased,  grace multiplied much more.

Go into today remembering that is cost God the life of His only begotten son to clean you of your sins. Don't take this sacrifice for granted by willfully walking in the flesh(sin). Do everything possible to flee the path of sin. Seek help if the need be.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your grace that gives me access to your divine life. Please help me walk worthy of this grace and please you in all respects(see Eph 4:1, Col 1:10, 1 Thess 2:21).

Romans 5:18-19 (NET)
Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people.
For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be made righteous.

Ada didn't believe that God had forgiven her her sins but somehow sought for a way to pay for them. Because of this, she didn't receive the cleansing of the Lord and found that the sin still had power over her,  thus she could not continue to resist it and became a slave to it.
As she sought for help,  she realized that understanding that her right standing with God was first because of Christ's righteousness made her able to receive the forgiveness of God and cleansing from all unrighteousness.

When a believer acknowledges his sins and repents before the Lord,  he receives forgiveness of sins and cleansing from all unrighteousness(see 1 John 1:9). Forgiveness takes away the guilt and restores our confidence before God,  but cleansing from all unrighteousness takes away the power of unrighteousness that weakens us and ensures that we go back to our sins. Those who receive God's forgiveness are those who can also receive His cleansing.

It is important for believers to always remember that the most important factor of our right standing with God is the righteousness of Christ Jesus. Even though after we have received the kingdom,  we are expected to yield to the righteousness of Christ and let it manifest through us, the definition of self-righteousness in a believer is a righteousness and confidence that is not based on (and does not stem from) the righteousness of Christ,  but one that is based on his own performance.

Go into today remembering that what consistently undermines the liberating power of grace in the life of the believer is trust in self-righteousness, rather than total faith in the righteousness of Jesus.
Receiving forgiveness of sins is predicated on faith in the sacrifice and righteousness of Jesus.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to deliver you from every trust in self-righteousness and help you repose all your trust in Him alone.

1 John 4:17 (KJV)
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Previously, we have looked at the manifestation of the qualities of love in God and how it affects us. But, we know that 1 Corinthians 13, from which we discussed the love qualities of God, is actually talking about us. If God is love, then we are to love also, for as He is so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

And because God is exhibiting these love qualities to the full, we can also exhibit them.
Don't forget, He has come to give us life and that we should have this life to the full (John 10:10). This life is a love-filled life, and we have this life to the full. We love and we are kind, patient, not jealous, not proud or boastful, not selfish, not easily provoked, we don't keep any record of wrong, we rejoice in justice and truth, never give up, and we love for eternity. Yes, that's who we are.

We love because we have the Spirit of love and the very love of God shed abroad and intently in our hearts (Romans 5:5). You might not be exhibiting these love qualities to the fullest, you might not even be exhibiting one, but that does not remove the fact that you are God's child who should love like He does. it simply means there is a need for intentional growth. You just need to believe it and start living the love-life that you have. God is love, so are you. Be love to all. Show them the expression of love and what love truly is. By so doing, you are doing what God would have done if He was present in your stead. Be love.

Go into today remembering that the hallmark of spiritual maturity is walking in our divine nature of love. All the other benefits of maturity which include spiritual might/power, authority, etc,  will eventually find expression in the life of the believer who walks in love.
Keep winning daily.

Prayer:
Thank you Lord for the Your love-life which You have given me. By the working of the Spirit of love in me, I exhibit who I am - Love - to the fullest, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Ephesians 6:14-15 (KJV)
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

When Laide got transferred to the head office of her organization in Lagos, she made up her mind that she was going to make disciples of the Lord in that office, thus she got there with the mindset and preparation for [sharing] the gospel of peace.
It didn't take long for her new colleagues to realize that she was a believer,  and many of the temptations that others fell into weren't even brought before her.
She didn't fall into the trap of the devil's temptations while in that office because she went there with her feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

If you entered a bus with the intention and preparation to preach the gospel in that bus,  you would agree with me that this would make it very difficult for you to fall into the temptation of quarreling with a trouble-seeking conductor or seatmate.

When someone is traveling on a journey or in warfare,  it is important that he has good shoes on. Some of the traps the enemy would set against him would focus on the legs,  and the first line of defense against the traps of the enemy is wearing the right shoes.
Many times believers have fallen into the trap of the enemy,  it was not because they were not wearing the breastplate of righteousness or holding the sword of the Spirit, It was because they were not having their feet shot with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

There is something that readiness for preaching the gospel does to the believer that is unique in the way it protects us from stumbling.

Go into today remembering that one of the greatest ways of preventing yourself from stumbling and wasting time on this journey of destiny is having a mindset to share the gospel everywhere you go.

Romans 8:28 (NET)
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose

The world is full of challenges. Right from when the world began, there have been challenges. After God finished creating the world, there was a challenge of who was going to be in charge of all He had created. God's only idea to solve that challenge was to create man. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth" (Genesis 1:27-28). Since then, the solutions to the world's problems has resided in God's man.

Irrespective of the circumstances of our birth, we were not born by mistake. We are God's solution to the myriad of challenges that the world is facing. No matter the challenge, the only way God will solve it is through men. He is not going to come to earth to fix its challenges. So we all are created to be the solution of each, and every one of our challenges. God saw needs to be met, and He created us to meet those needs. The first need of the world was leadership, and until today, the world is still in dire need of leaders. Do you know what? God created you to meet that need, even in the smallest of groups.

The idea that will bring the desired change and solutions that we all need is going to come through men God has placed in our spheres of influence. That is why we all need to connect with each other so that through our networking, God will solve the challenges that will creep up in our lives. Men are God's solutions to your challenges, so treat them as such. You are also the solution to someone's challenge. That was how God designed the world. We were created to meet our various needs, individually and collectively and this should excite us to give our all when people need us to help them. We are standing in God's stead and it is a blessing. You are a solution to the world.

Prayer:
Dear loving Father, thank You for making me a solution to my world. Thank You for trusting me to stand in Your stead to meet the needs of the world. I am excited by this and by Your Spirit, I will give my all to be the solution that the world craves, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NET)
6 Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Rhoda was now 30 years old and was not yet married. Her mother was worried sick because she said Rhoda will soon pass ‘the flower of her age’. Rhoda was not worried because each time anxiety tried to enter her heart, she handled it in the place of prayer. Because of this, she was a very cheerful and joyful person and had a very attractive personality. This was what attracted the man who eventually married her. He was a very successful and well-celebrated businessman who loved the lord. He wanted that joy and peace he saw radiating from Rhoda to be in his home, so he asked her to marry him.

Anxiety and heaviness are popular negative spiritual forces that hinder the flow of grace and God’s blessings. That is one reason the Lord says we should be anxious for nothing. The most effective way to handle anxiety is through prayer and thanksgiving. One way you will know that you have prayed through is when you no longer feel the anxiety and now feel the peace of God.

It is wise to continue to pray about a matter until the anxiety leaves your heart. Go into today determined to live a life that radiates the glory and joy of the Lord.

Ask the Lord to help you always cast your cares upon Him(Psalm 55:2).

Romans 5:18 (NET)
Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people.

Keneth got himself into trouble when he started following certain teachers who taught strange things. They taught him that his conduct as a young man didn't matter much before God, because God deals with him based on the righteousness of Christ, so his conduct didn't matter. They quoted the Bible verse above to buttress their point.
As a result of these doctrines, Kenneth sunk deeper and deeper into uniquity and made many mistakes that he lived to regret years later. The Lord restored him when he started reading Streamglobe devotional (Actual Name changed).

All human beings were made sinners because of the sin of the one man Adam. It is on that same basis that all who believe in Christ will be made righteousness by the righteousness of Christ the last Adam.
Now,  even though all were made sinners because of the sin of Adam,  the basis of God's judgment on every individual person would be his individual actions (see Ecclesiastes 12:14). Before God, sinners are judged for their own sins, not for the sin of Adam. What Adam's sin did was to open the door of sin to mankind,  such that the sinful nature became our nature by default.
But for those who believe in Christ,  His righteousness opens the doors of endless righteousness and holiness to us, such that if any man is in Christ,  sin would not have dominion over him.

Go into today remembering that people became sinners because of Adam's sin,  but individuals will be judged and condemned because of their own sins which they have committed.
People become righteous because of Christ's righteousness,  but people will be rewarded and elevated in God's kingdom because of their obedience and service in [the doing of] righteousness (see 1 Cor 3:13-15, Mat 16:27, Rev 22:12).

For God Is Love

1 John 4:8 (NKJV)
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Love never dies. It is for eternity. Love will never cease to exist or fail, It lasts forever. I am not referring to human love which ceases to exist or dies, I am referring to God's love. God is called Love, and as long as God is still alive and will not die, His love will never die or cease to exist. His love will last forever. God is eternal, so also is His love. His loves eternally.

Scriptures say in 1 Corinthians 13:8(NLT) that "prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!"

In the world to come, we will not have a need for prophecy, speaking in unknown languages or special knowledge, they won't be of any importance, but love will be palpably present. God's Love for you is eternal. You are eternally loved by God, and nothing can make God's love for you to cease, die or fail. Nothing can separate you from the love of God, absolutely nothing (Romans 8:35-39).

Not even your sin can make God's love for you to cease. Yes, you read that right. No matter how sinful you are, God will still love you eternally. When you were still having the nature of sin and was a servant of Satan and sin, God loved you intensely (Romans 5:6&8). Now that you are His child, He cannot stop loving you because you sinned. Even the atheist that doesn't believe in God's existence is loved intensely by God. His love never fails, ceases or dies. It stays forever, nothing can and no one will make God stop loving you. You are eternally loved by the eternal God. Be like God and love eternally.

Go into today basking in God's love for you and keep winning daily.

Prayer:
Dear loving God, thank You for Your love that never fails or ceases but lasts forever. Thank You for loving me eternally. Help me, by the working of Your Spirit, to respond positively to Your love and to also love people eternally, like You do, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Destined To Reign 2

Romans 5:17 (NET)
For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ!

After Sally started reading those faith-building books,  one of the first things she realized was that there was so much that she did not know. There were many assumptions she had been making that limited her access to grace. She read stories that reminded and assured her of the power of Christ, and gradually,  her faith was now becoming stronger.

As she understood the gift of righteousness,  she realized that her right-standing with God was a gift. She now understood that she was to walk in righteousness not so that she would attain right-standing(approval) with God, but because she already had right-standing with God through Christ Jesus.

All things that pertain to life and godliness has been made available to us through the abundant grace of the Lord Jesus. Grace is the power of God that empowers a believer to reign in life and fulfills his divine destiny, but the key that accesses God's abundant grace is righteousness. This righteousness is a gift received by faith. The righteousness of works[that is apart from faith] is not strong enough to access the bounties of grace.

Go into today remembering that your access-key to Christ's abundant grace is righteousness. This righteousness is a gift that we receive by faith. Faith, by definition, makes us trust and obey the One upon whom it is reposed.

Prayer: Father, help me understand that my right standing with you is because of Christ, not because of me. Help walk in all the benefits of being in Christ, in Jesus name. Amen.

Destined To Reign

Romans 5:17 (NET)
For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ!

Sally understood that the life she was living was not that of an overcomer or of someone described in today's Bible verse who reigns in life with Christ. She was defeated everywhere. Her health was poor, her marriage relationship in shambles, and she was covered in financial debt. As a believer, she knew something was wrong somewhere but didn't know what.

She started asking the Lord many questions and soon she realized that the reason she was so defeated in life was because of her little understanding of the abundance of Christ's grace and the gift of righteousness.
She immediately knew that it was time for her to be given to learning. She hit the bookstore and bought so many titles she knew would fill her with the word of faith and the word of righteousness.

The extent of the understanding of Christ's grace we have is the extent to which we would appropriate the dimensions of its realities.

Believers who are very ignorant are the believers who suffer unnecessarily the most(see Hosea 4:6, Proverbs 5:23). The biggest hindrances to being filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding are lack of proper exposure and presence of pride. Some are not willing to bend down and learn because they believe they know and are wise enough. That's why they continue to suffer for things that Christ has already paid for.

There is the receiving and appropriating of the abundance of grace and gift of righteousness. The two go together. One who does not understand the gift of righteousness cannot understand and/or appropriate the abundance of Christ's grace.   We shall look more at this next time.

Go into today remembering that the extent of understanding of the grace and riches we have in Christ is the extent to which we would walk in them. "And in thy getting, get understanding" (Prov 4:7).

Prayer: Lord, please open the eyes of my understanding, in Jesus name. Amen. Pray with Ephesians 1:17-19.

Praying Through

1 Samuel 1:15 (NLT)
“Oh no, sir!” she replied. “I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord.

Many wear wristbands having the inscription P.U.S.H, that is, Pray Until Something Happens as part of their prayer slogan. On closer inspection, it’s fast becoming a cliché and an avenue to brag about how long or how hard one prays. Though not a bad idea, it should, however, be placed within the right context of coming to God in supplication.

As prerequisites, some have cited location as in Hannah’ case, others have cited frequency as in Elijah’s case and some others still mark a particular time of the day. However, praying through is not a function of time or place, but it is a function of the heart’s motive (Jam 4:3).

The Word of God makes it clear that fervency should not be ignored for effective prayers, but the real subject matter should be the state of one’s heart. Is the heart right with God or does it still harbor sin, guilt, doubt, etc.? (1 Thes 5:17, Jam 5:16, Psa 24:3-4, 66:18).

Therefore, in order to pray through, we must pour out or confess from our hearts the Word of truth with respect to any issue of worry, totally putting our trust in God, without any provision for fleshly options. When we do this, as was the case with Hannah, we will experience peace (1 Sam 1:18, Phil 4:6-7).

Go into today, knowing that as you open up your heart in prayer, persistently focusing on God’s truth, you’ll soon receive your heart’s desire.

Promotion Comes From God

Psalms 75:6-7 (NKJV)
For exaltation comes neither from the east Nor from the west nor from the south.
But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another.

Since Emeka knew he could not do the unrighteous things his colleagues were doing to lobby for the new post everyone wanted, he decided he was not going to be disappointed or sad if he did not get the job.
He was the best at what he did, but at that point, being the best wasn’t all it took to get the job.

As he read the Bible one evening, it occurred to him that he could simply pray and ask God for the promotion. He remembered that promotion does not come from the east nor from the west (your span of achievements) nor from the south (your location or where you come from), but it comes from God. As soon as he finished praying, he knew he was going to get the promotion. The next weeks to come, things played out in his favor and he got the job.

Do you seek to be promoted? Stop trusting in the arm of flesh and in human maneuvers, but trust in God. Remember that promotion comes from God. You can simply ask Him for your promotion. He loves it when we ask Him in faith for the things we want.

If a man gets his own promotion by human maneuvers, it is because a man who God wants to promote is not in the picture.

Go into today knowing that if God promotes you, no one can demote you. If He opens a door, no one can close it (see Rev 3:7). Remember that the greatest exaltation anyone can receive is the one that sets him up for eternal glory with Christ.

Abide Under God's Covering

Psalms 91:1 (NKJV)
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Dwelling in the secret place of the Most High is a choice we can all make as believers, but unfortunately, it is also a choice we can refuse to make. How do we refuse to make this choice? By not abiding in the Lord but going back to the world. Those in the world are ruled by lust, greed, and pride.

in John 15, the Lord told His disciples who believed in Him to abide in Him and He would abide in them. those days, I used to wonder what it really meant to abide in the Lord, then I heard a song written by a friend of mine (who used to be a very notorious unbeliever but today is now a pastor and one of the truest believers I know). His song helped me properly understand what it means to abide in the Lord. A part of the song goes thus:

I would settle down, settle down, I'll sit back and relax
I won't run away, anymore, I'll sit back and relax
I'll be faithful unto you, I'll sit back and relax
I'll be faithful unto you, I'll sit back and relax...

You can see the writer say 'I won't run away anymore'. The question is 'run away how?' He used to be in the word and had built an 'eco-system' there, most of his friends were in the world. Running away for him meant going back to the world, it meant not being truly faithful to the Lord in all things, It meant living a life of compromises and doing things he knows are wrong for a believer to do.

Abiding in the Lord means staying in Him. Jesus tells us to abide in Him because there is a possibility to not abide in Him even though we have been grafted into Him(see Rom 11:19-22). There is a possibility to want to go back to the world because of its pleasures and deceitfulness of riches.

Go into today remembering that what it means to dwell in the secret place of the Most High is to abide in the Lord and be faithful to Him. Repent of every unfaithfulness and determine that from today, with the help of the Spirit, you would abide in Him.
Remember that it is those who abide in Him that enjoy His universal protection and covering(read Psalm 91).
Pray: Lord, help me abide in you. Amen.

Under The Shadow of the Almighty

Audio Devotional & Bible here: http://bit.ly/audio1268

Psalms 91:1 (NKJV)
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

After Ladi accepted Christ, she still didn’t fully understand what it meant to dwell in the secret place of the Most High. Because of this, she was still a fearful person.

One day, she had to pass through a street that was known for being very dangerous at night, especially for young ladies. But she didn’t have any other choice but to walk through that street on her way home that night. She saw a group of very bad looking boys staring at her, and she could hear her heart beat because of fear, but she simply walked as fast as she could to pass them.

The next time she went for hospital evangelism, she saw a wounded young man who had been in a bike accident. She preached the gospel to him and he accepted Christ. He later told her that he was one of the young men staring at her that night. He said they wanted to steal her bag and harm her, but there was a strange presence that scared and withheld them. He said that was an experience he had not forgotten.

Ladi now understood that she had been dwelling under the shadow of the Almighty.

Those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The way to dwell in the secret place of the Most High is to abide in Christ and let His words abide in you (see John 15:7). This is only possible when you have received Christ as Lord and savior.

Go into today remembering that you are under the shadow of the Almighty if you are in Christ.

Strength To Stand

Luke 21:36 (AMP)
“ Keep awake then and watch at all times [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.”

It is important for us to pay more attention to what the Lord is saying in today’s Bible passage. As believers, we need to wake up, wake up in the place of prayer; wake up in the place of meditative study of the word of God. Those who will survive the tough times as believers are those who meditate on God’s word; watching and praying. Our Lord did not just caution us to keep awake and be prayerful to survive the tough times, you see, we need strength to stand before the Son of Man.

Friend, as for me, I want to see His face. I want to trust Him to take me through all these things and give me strength to stand before Him when He returns. I don’t want to be ashamed at His appearance, because many will be. I want to resemble Him, He is coming for those that look like Him. So what must I do? I must not give up on Him now. He hasn’t given up on me. What if I fall? I must stand up, and get back into the race. Micah 7:8 says ” Rejoice not against me, O my enemy! When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me.”

Dear friend, keep awake and be watchful at all times, pray for strength to escape all these things and to stand before the Son of Man.

Prayer: Father please grant me the grace to keep awake and to be alert at all times. Help me to run this race till I reach the finish line, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

That I May Know Him

Philippians 3:10 (KJV)
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death

Rolland wanted to walk in God’s great power because he saw he needed this to be more effective in life and ministry. He had taken some time to observe the life of those who walked in God’s great power. He noticed that they were closer to God than most other Christians. He now realized that the secret to walking in great power is closer knowledge of God through fellowship with Him (see 2 Pet 1:2).

See from today’s Bible verse that the first thing you will experience in your knowledge of God is the power of His resurrection. This is the greatest power of God that is known to creation (spiritual and physical). This power raised Christ from the dead and exalted Him above all creation (see Eph 1:20-21).

The reason many Christians do not walk in God’s great power is because they are too far from God in their hearts. They do not have a close relationship with the Lord and all their communication with Him is based on asking and receiving. They do not really have a desire to know God and know His ways.

Moses was powerful because he knew God and knew His ways (see Psalm 103:7). He spent time in the presence of God more than everyone else.

Any good father would naturally be closer to his obedient children who love to spend time with him. He would be closer with them than with those whose only communication with him is to ask for things.

Go into today remembering that fellowship with God is the secret to walking in the power of God freely made available to you in Christ.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you cultivate friendship with Him.

Filled and Complete in Christ

Colossians 2:9-10 (NET)
For in him all the fullness of deity lives in bodily form,
and you have been filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

When Sola wanted to be free from the demonic powers that held him bound since his university days,  he decided to call upon the name of the Lord and be saved. Even though he had always known that Jesus could save him,  he thought becoming a believer in Christ would take away from him and make his life miserable. "No more partying, no more hanging out and fun, etc". But the opposite was the case. After receiving the Lord Jesus,  the emptiness in his soul vanished and he started feeling complete and filled. He discovered that he no longer needed alcohol, drugs, partying, etc. to feel complete. All those things never really made him complete, but only plunged him deeper into darkness. His fellowship with Christ through [fellowship with] the Holy Spirit and fellowship with brethren was more filling and fulfilling than anything he had explored before.

One of the biggest deceptions of the devil to the people in the world is that if they accept the Lord Jesus,  they would be forsaking a full and exciting life for a life that would be empty,  dull and dreary. But the opposite is the case. No matter how many accomplishments a man has or how far he explores in the world,  he would always feel empty without Christ. No matter how much a man tries to satisfy his flesh with pleasures, he would be left empty. It is only in Christ that a human being can find completeness and purpose. Man was created in the image of God. It is only Christ who is the fullness of the Godhead bodily that can fill man.

Go into today remembering that that old feeling if emptiness cannot be the portion of a person who abides in Christ. In  Christ lies the fullness of the Godhead body,  and you are filled in Him. No more emptiness. Glory to Jesus!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Help me to appreciate and make the most of this truth that I am filled and complete in you.

Avoiding Lukewarmness

Download audio version here: bit.ly/aud2002

Revelation 3:15-16 (KJV)
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Chinenye's biggest challenge that made her leave that liberal church in the city was that she had become lukewarm and spiritually weak as a result.

In trying to get back on fire for Jesus again,  Chinenye observed that certain things responsible for her becoming lukewarm had to be dealt with. The first was that she was attending a church full of lukewarm and cold believers. She realized that one of the ways hot water becomes lukewarm is by continually mixing it with cold or lukewarm water.
Her biggest challenge now was that her fiance was also lukewarm. He,  like her,  used to be on fire for Jesus when he was on campus,  but he wasn't very sound in doctrine and was now lukewarm too because of his environment.

Chinenye realized that in order for her to be restored to her place of spiritual fervor,  she couldn't continue to fellowship with lukewarm and compromising believers. She made this clear to her fiance,  and together,  they started seeking God again.

There are various reasons why believers who were once hot can become lukewarm. One of such reasons is because of fellowship with unbelievers or compromising (lukewarm) believers. In 1 Corinthians 5:11, we see a warning to us not to so much as break bread with a compromising believer. Why? Because God does not want us to become lukewarm like them. Spiritual disease is very contagious.

Go into today remembering that being lukewarm is a dangerous place to remain as a believer(see Today's text). If there was a time in your life that you were more on fire for Jesus than now, it is indeed a matter of concern. Take out time this week to seek the Lord in prayer and fasting, and ask Him to restore your fervor and show you to plug all areas of leakages.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please keep me on fire for you all the days of my life, in Jesus name. Amen.

Be Careful Not To Live By Human Traditions 2

Colossians 2:8 (NET)
Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Chinenye was already in a relationship leading to marriage. She found out that her fiance was from a community known to be very diabolical and demonic. They had certain very strong laws in that community. For example, if a woman in that community or one who married them committed adultery or her nakedness was seen by another man, she would die within seven days. Neighboring communities were scared of marrying into that community because of many such laws and repercussions.

Chinenye didn't know this until she was now engaged to Ben. She initially did not mind because she did not ever plan to commit adultery in her life. But what started bothering her was the fact that Ben didn't see that there was something wrong with the fact that even believers from his community were still victims to the powers of the covenant of his community. Ben said as far as he was concerned, those rules in his community are in keeping with the rules of God, so there was nothing wrong with them.

In as much as the laws in that community looked consistent with the Law of God, those laws were given by demons and enforced by demons. A believer is not to rejoice in such laws and systems, but through consecration to Christ and focused prayers, he is to reject them and cling only unto his new spiritual identity as a citizen of heaven. Refusing to do so would only bring him under the power of elemental spirits.

Go into today remembering that as a believer, your citizenship is in heaven (see Philippians 3:20). The culture and tradition that now rule your life must be that of God's kingdom.

Prayer: Lord, help me to see myself as you see me so that I can walk in that reality (Read 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Be Careful Not To Live By Human Traditions

Colossians 2:8 (NET)
Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

After Chinenye left that liberal church, she started attending a church that was at the other extreme. They had so many rules and regulations that it was almost impossible to keep up. There were always "visions" concerning people who went to hell because they used jewelry or even perfume, and they taught that certain people’s names could not be written in the book of life because their names didn't have scriptural roots. It didn't take Chinenye long to realize that she was coming out of one bondage and entering into another.

A major problem today among many believers is balance. Many in running away from one extreme swing to the other extreme. But whenever there appear to be two extremes on a matter of doctrinal difference in the body of Christ, the truth usually is around the middle. If there are those who some accuse of taking the grace of God as a license for sinning, and there are those who the others accuse of being legalistic, the truth of the gospel is usually in the middle of the two extremes. The grace of God is not license, but it cannot be reduced to rules and regulations.

Today, all [human] traditions not rooted in Christ would find their root and empowerment (in the form of retributions for violation) in elemental spirits. Whenever believers begin to peddle the tradition of men as part of their creed, they are exposing themselves to elemental spirits.

Go into today remembering that any tradition that does not have Christ at the center of it; but seeks to undermine the finished works of Christ for the believer, is a toxic tradition for any believer.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from following every tradition that may act as a limiting force against my participation in your divine life. Amen.
