Philippians 4:8 (NET)Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

After several months of marriage, Bidemi had not conceived and she now became really worried. She started imagining all kinds of negative things. She heard that those who had committed abortion might have damaged their wombs and may never conceive. She was particularly worried because she had had two abortions while an unbeliever.

She was also worried because she felt it could be her stepmother's curse at work. She forgot that her stepmother said she would never marry, but she was now happily married to a man who truly loved her. He was the one encouraging her and telling her that nothing was wrong with her. He said that even if her womb was damaged, God would restore it.

One day, as she went through her old sermon notes, she remembered something she had learned long ago. It was a sermon centered on Philippians 4:8. She remembered she came out of circles of depression and oppression after she had listened to that sermon and decided to always focus her mind on the good in her life. She remembered she became spiritually strong and started walking in perpetual victory after receiving that message.

She repented and decided to start thanking the Lord for all the good in her life. This is how joy filled her heart again.

The more you focus on your challenges, the bigger they become. But the more you focus on the Lord and what He is doing in your life, the smaller your challenges become, and the stronger you become to overcome them.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you always focus on Him and what He is doing in your life.

The Believer and His Tradition

1 Corinthians 11:2 (NET)I praise you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Sandra had a lingering misunderstanding with her mother-in-law because she and her husband were believers and they decided not to follow certain traditions that were not spiritually edifying. For some reason, Sandra’s mother-in-law insisted that Sandra was to blame for this (because she was from another ethnic group). With patience, great wisdom, and show of love, Sandra succeeded in winning her mother-in-law’s heart.

There are hundreds of different traditions and cultures in the world today, and many of them stem from the religion of the people that practice them. It is often said that culture is the cloak of religion. For the believer, every tradition must be screened through the lenses of scripture. If a tradition or custom is contradictory to the truth of God's Word, it must be discarded by the believer. But if a tradition is not in contradiction to the truth of God's Word, it shouldn't be discarded.

As believers, we are a Holy nation (1 Pet 2:9), and we have our own traditions that are peculiar to us everywhere. Even though some outward interpretations of them can vary because of cultural influences, the spirit of every Christian tradition must be understood and upheld by believers. Walking in these ensures that we walk in the blessing.

Underlining principles and pillars of the Christian tradition are virtues such as love, honor, kindness, diligence, compassion, self-control, moral purity, justice & fairness, patience, humility, orderliness. Any human tradition that contradicts any of these principles should be discarded.

Go into today remembering that you are first and foremost a citizen of heaven. Every custom and tradition you practice must be vetted by the truth of God's Word and not found wanting. Some traditions must be rejected and done away with because they are mediums through which demons invade people's lives.

1 Peter 1:13 (NET) Therefore, get your minds ready for action by being fully sober, and set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Deril was removed from his role as a pilot because he failed the weekly drug tests twice. Even though he was one of the most talented pilots in the company, his boss had to let him go because he was no longer sober enough for the sensitive job of a pilot.

He was going through a major frustration in his personal life and the way he felt he could find comfort was through drugs.

The Company understood that their pilots need to be most vigilant, and a pilot who is high on drugs cannot be vigilant enough, no matter how talented he is. An aircraft can crash if the pilot is not sober enough to observe the slightest warning signs and signals.

In order to be truly vigilant, it is necessary to be sober(see 1 Peter 5:8). A distracted and troubled mind cannot truly be vigilant. One of the biggest enemies of us being sober is anxiety and fear. An anxious and fearful mind cannot be truly vigilant.

When our hearts are fully set on the grace that we will receive when the Lord appears, it will help us keep our priorities in the right place and the prince of this world would not be able to sway us with things he can control. A secret to spiritual stability is having our hope fixed on the grace and glory we will receive when the Lord appears.

Go into today remembering to cast your cares and anxieties upon the Lord. Let the joy of the Lord fill your heart. Watch and pray always.
Prayer: Lord, please help me to be sober and vigilant. Deliver me from all my fears. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Do Not Quench The Spirit

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (ESV) “Do not quench the Spirit”

Romeo and Miller were discussing while driving home after a Church meeting when suddenly Miller began to sing and pray in the Spirit. Because of this, he couldn't continue with the ongoing discussion. “Did you know I was offended when you suddenly started singing and praying instead of continuing with the discussion?” Romeo asked after some minutes. “Oh, sorry! I didn’t mean to be rude, but I needed to respond to the prompting I got in my spirit”, Miller responded.

Miller chose not to quench the Spirit. You quench the Spirit when you refuse to respond to His promptings.

In Acts 8:29 (KJV), The Spirit said unto Philip, “Go near, and join thyself to this chariot." He responded instantly; he did not quench the Spirit. Peter, on the other hand, would have quenched the Spirit when he responded, “not so, Lord" (Acts 10:14) to God's instructions except that he eventually obeyed God and went to Cornelius' house.

Many are quenching the Spirit today because they have not learned to respond to God's promptings within them. This has been the reason for many failures, disappointments, sicknesses, and even untimely death.

In Isaiah 30:21(ESV), the Lord says, “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left."

The Spirit has been given to us as a guide (John 16:13), whenever we refuse to respond to His speakings and promptings, we miss our way.

Go into today determined not to quench the Spirit by choosing to respond to every prompting you get from Him.

Prayer: thank you Lord for giving the Holy Spirit to me as a guide. Help me to always hear, listen, and obey Him. Amen!

2 Peter 2:1-2 (NASB)But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned.

When Bidemi and her Fiance traveled home to see her parents, her stepmother found a way of letting him know that Bidemi was not a legitimate child. She also told him that Bidemi was pregnant when she was 16 and aborted it. Unknown to her stepmother, Bidemi and her intended had no secrets between them, so her wicked plot did not work.

Bidemi’s stepmother was a leader in their church. She was very committed to the church, but she was not truly a Christian. This was not entirely her fault, it was the fault of the false teachers that they had in their church.

Because of her stepmother, it was initially very difficult for Bidemi to accept the Lord Jesus. She thought Christians were like her stepmother. But thank God she had the opportunity of meeting real Christians later in her life.

False doctrines usually have many followers because they are usually more appealing to the flesh and to the carnal believer.

Go into today remembering that the easiest way to identify false prophets and false teachers is by their fruits (see Matthew 7:15). The fruit of a person’s life is his character and his integrity. The fruit of a ministry is the quality of disciples produced through that ministry. If you observe that most of the members of a particular ministry you know are bankrupt in morality and integrity, please stay away from that ministry.

Sacrifice, The Path to Spiritual Relevance

Psalm 50:5 (KJV) “Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice".

Because man became wicked, God destroyed man and beast from the surface of the earth (Genesis 6:5-7). But Noah, the man who found grace with God brought God back into the equation when he rared up an altar of sacrifice unto God. Because of his sacrifice, God enacted a covenant with man through Noah, with the promise that the whole earth will never again be destroyed with water (Genesis 8:20-9:3).

It is impossible to be relevant either physically or spiritually without sacrifices. A witch doctor offers sacrifices to devils to gain relevance in the dark world, an academician will pay the sacrifice of researching and publishing academic papers to gain relevance in the academic world. In the same vein, a child of God who seeks relevance in the kingdom of God must pay the sacrifice of obeying God's word even when it is most inconvenient.

Priesthood is a function of sacrifice, the reason the Bible admonishes us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and lead sanctified lives is so we could offer acceptable sacrifices to God (Malachi 3:3).

Sacrifice seems to be the only way by which God and man enters into covenant.

In Genesis 22:16-18 (KJV) for instance, God said this to Abraham after he had agreed to sacrifice Isaac his son, “by myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice".

Go into today knowing that, If you must do business with God, it is by sacrifice and that, the things that have been destroyed can be restored and replenished if a man who understands sacrificial living arises.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to be relevant in your kingdom, please teach me to live sacrificially. Amen!

Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Freddie grew up in a Christian home and attended a neighborhood children's Bible study called "Bible club".

It was in the Bible club that Freddie learned memory verses like today's Bible verse. But as Freddie grew older, he strayed away from the Lord because of the wrong company. He now only went to church for weddings, burials, and thanksgivings.

During a certain Christmas season, his neighbor invited him to Christmas worship service in their church and he attended because he was interested in dating her and he felt this would soften the ground.

During the service, the pastor started reading from today's Bible verse. Because it had been in Freddie's memory, he remembered it and muttered it while the preacher read it. That was not the only thing Freddie remembered that day. He remembered the peace, joy, and love he enjoyed as a child when he accepted the Lord Jesus in “Bible club”. He remembered the assurance and hope that filled his heart because he was now a member of God's family.

As he remembered these things, he began to cry because he realized that he had been running away from God all his life. He was now weary and heavy-laden. He wanted rest and peace for his soul. He wanted to come back to the place he once knew as a little child when he felt safe and secure in God's love.

Today is Christmas and believers are celebrating the Lord Jesus Christ. Many unbelievers are also celebrating and trying to ease the burden of their souls through the festivities and celebrations, hoping that this period of celebration would drown the emptiness and hopelessness in their hearts. Many will drink and get drunk because they want to drown away their frustration.

As we celebrate the Lord today, let's remember that because of Him, we have eternal life: rest for our souls, peace, joy, security, and hope. We are not like unbelievers who are without hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:2). We have hope and God. We are certain of an eternal future filled with such glory that our current minds are unable to fully comprehend.

Go into today remembering to thank the Lord for coming to give us hope, peace, and rest for our souls. Pray for people like Freddie who are lost. Ask the Lord to restore them. Pray for others who have never known the Lord, that they would be drawn unto the Lord.

Have a blessed and fruitful Christmas in Jesus’ name.

Are Your Steps Truly Ordered?

Psalm 37:23 (KJV) The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Watching a military march-past or parade is a thing of beauty that draws applause from all. Their tidy regalia, focus, command execution, and uniformity are outstanding; unlike those of laymen or paramilitary outfits where missteps abound. Very crucial to their standard is their discipline, consistency, and adherence to their parade commandant.

From today's Bible verse, the word "ordered" is synonymous with soldiering. Because as believers, we are soldiers for Christ, it becomes very pertinent that most of our life's decisions [whether minor or major] aren't just casual or based on our own understanding, but based on God's leading (Pro 3:5-6, 2Tim 2:3-4).

Soldiers attain a high level of brilliance in their march-past, only after they have gone through discipline and repeated practice. As with the things of God, taking the right step, prevailing and eliciting victory applause, involves active discipleship and getting oneself attuned to the leading of God's Spirit (1Cor 2:10-16; 2Tim 2:15).

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) says - Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

That is the voice of the Holy Spirit and He is the parade commandant whose voice we are to always heed. He reveals to us the mind of Jesus (our Commander-in-Chief) and directs us on how to do His will. He lovingly corrects us and helps maintain our right status if we veer towards sin. He is our navigational guide through all of life's obstacles. Knowing Him personally is true success in life (Jh 14, 15, 16).

Go into today knowing that the Holy Spirit is a friendly commandant. As you obey Him by word study and prayers, your life will never lack direction.

2 Timothy 2:3-5 (KJV)Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Because Bayo knew he needed help against the terrible backsliding that had bedeviled him, he opened up to his friend and told him about his weaknesses and failures. His friend who lived in another city started praying for him, and with him via phone calls.

Bayo and his friend agreed that he was going to get a house close to his office. This was because he was spending too much time on transit to his office and back. Bayo had started saving money which he intended to use to buy a house in a cheaper neighborhood. But he took a part of this money and used it to rent a house on the expensive Island his office was located. He did this because he needed to spend less time on the road and use the saved time to pray and have quiet time with the Lord. This plan worked perfectly, and Bayo started recovering spiritually. Great joy [that money could not buy] now filled his heart.

One of the lessons Bayo learned from his friend was that he was to endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ. A good example of this hardness is waking up to pray even when you don't feel like praying because of sleep. The best way to do this is to leave the location of sleep and go to a place where sleep would be less likely.

Go into today remembering that your faith is the greatest treasure you have. It is far more precious than gold (worldly riches)-- it has eternal everlasting value(1 Pet 1:7). No sacrifice is too great to make in order to keep yourself from a shipwreck of the faith. Many saints of old gave their lives because they would not lose this faith (see Heb 12:4, Heb 10:32-34).

Ephesians 1:5-6 (KJV) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Bidemi grew up with a feeling of worthlessness and insecurity because she was an "illegitimate" child, and her stepmother made sure she understood that. Because of this, she would react harshly to situations and would be very rude and difficult to communicate with. She always felt like she was in a deep dark pit, and could amount to nothing in life. But this all changed when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. For the first time in her life, she knew she was accepted. She no longer felt like her life was a mistake, she knew God had a purpose for creating her, and she was happy to be alive.

One thing we must never forget as believers is that God accepted us before we accepted Him, that is why we could accept Him. Your salvation was not your own idea; it was God’s idea before you were born. This knowledge will help you rest in God’s love. It is very important that believers are grounded in the love of God.

Many times, before the devil can get a believer to fall, he will first get him to doubt the love that God has for him. This he does because he knows the power the knowledge of God’s love produces in the life of the believer.

See what Ephesians 3:19 (NLT) says:
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Go into today remembering that you are beloved of God. You are accepted in His beloved family.

Daniel 3:17-18 (KJV) If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

The men in today's passage, unlike the others, were distinct because of their sacrifice. They were willing to offer their lives in loyalty to their God, the result was an encounter with the Son of God (Daniel 3:25). Those who in obedience to Jesus' command in Luke 24:49 sacrificed their time, businesses, and pleasure and waited in Jerusalem also encountered the Holy Spirit as a reward.

Every child of God who desires to walk in spiritual power and authority must learn the way of sacrifice. For instance, you would sacrifice food so you can fast, sleep so you can pray at night, certain fun so you can spend that time studying, certain purchases so you can give the money to God, etc.

You will not enjoy the unique possibilities that are in God If you seek, obey, and serve God only when it is convenient.

Go into today knowing that the language of spirits is sacrifice and if you intend to do business with the Spirit of God, you must learn to live sacrificially (Psalms 50:5).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please give me the grace to live sacrificially so I can be more useful to you. Amen.

1 Peter 1:23 (KJV) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.

Justin was the captain of his school's football team. The coach preached the gospel to him and because he wanted to be in the good books of the coach, he said the sinner’s prayer and started attending church services with him, but he didn't truly believe or care about God or religion. When it was time to be baptized, he was baptized and he started attending discipleship class.

Because the fellowship he was attending was very sound in the ministry of the word, he could not but come in contact with the living Word of God during the services and discipleship classes. Even though at first, Justin told his coach he now believed because he wanted to be in the good books of the coach, he was now hearing the word of God, and through it, faith was building in his heart. Eventually, he truly accepted the Lord Jesus and became born again.

From today's Bible verse we can see that what makes us born again is the seed of God's word that has been sown within us. Without the word of God, no one can be born again because the new birth is a product of the Word(water) and the Spirit(see John 3:5, Ephesians 5:26, John 15:3). If a believer does not continue in the word of God, he cannot be a disciple of the Lord and experience true freedom (John 8: 31-32).

Today's scripture reveals that being born again is not a one-off thing but a continuous process through the word of God. Your spirit was regenerated when you first believed, but you (your soul) are being born again.

We must allow the seed of God's word to continue to grow and bring forth fruits. The more we allow the word of God shape our world view and choices, the more fruitful we will be. There are many things competing with the word of God in our hearts and if we are not careful, they would choke the seed and prevent fruitfulness.

Go into today remembering to guard your heart with all diligence. Reject and resist any philosophy that competes with the ideals of God's word in your heart.

Prayer: thank you Lord for bringing me into new life by your word and spirit. Please help me grow and become more like you. Amen.

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)  knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

If God became a man, the best he would be called would be the 'Son of God' because technically, God is not a man (man is limited, God is unlimited) and a man is not God (see Num 23:19). That’s why even though Jesus is God [come in the flesh], He is rightfully called the SON OF GOD.

God became a man and the name of that man is Jesus Christ. God becoming a man could happen only once, and that’s why Jesus is the ONLY begotten Son of God. Yet God was willing to sacrifice He who is His only image (see Heb 1:3) in this [three-dimensional] realm.

So powerful was this sacrifice that the second person of the Godhead practically had to leave heaven to become a man and remain a man for all eternity. After His resurrection, Jesus remains a man--even today (see 1 Tim 2:5). In order for Him to regain His glory as God, God had to exalt Him and give Him a name that is above other names (Phil 2:9, Heb 2:9).

The next time the devil tries to trivialize your salvation or make you feel small, weak and irrelevant, remind him that your salvation was paid for by the life of his creator and sustainer. Nothing in all of eternity is as expensive as your salvation.

Knowing how much it cost God to save you; how that He gave His life for you, the most reasonable thing to do in response is to offer yourself to God and live for Him (see Rom 12:1-2).

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you walk in a way that is worthy of His great call (Eph 4:1).

Jeremiah 17:11 (NLT) Like a partridge that hatches eggs she has not laid, so are those who get their wealth by unjust means. At midlife they will lose their riches; in the end, they will become poor old fools.

Making money from Ponzi schemes, gambling/betting, embezzling public funds or even by certain kinds of financial speculation that exclude productivity, are common unjust ways people make money today. We dare to say this because we are Christians, and the church is the pillar and ground of truth. Selah.

Any business transaction in which both parties do not gain something is an unjust transaction. For example, if I sell you a commodity, I will lose it but will have gained the money. You will lose your money but will have gained the commodity. We both gained something. But something is wrong if I alone gained.

When you buy shares of a productive company, you make a profit because the company makes a profit and is becoming more valuable, not because people are losing their money. That is a just way to make gains.

There is nothing as dangerous as ignorance for Christians. Unfortunately, in the spirit realm, ignorance is not an excuse. When a Christian gets involved in businesses that only generate profit from other people’s loss, he has participated in a business that thrives only on greed. Such businesses are really not different in spiritual principle from gambling.

There is nothing that scares the devil like when real Christians are controlling real wealth in this world. He understands that this means greater influence for God’s kingdom on the earth. He wants Christians to be lured into Get-rich-quick schemes so that they will lose their power to make real enduring wealth.

Go into today asking the Lord to empower you to walk in His spiritual wisdom and understanding in all things. Ask Him to deliver you from the Love of money and help you love righteousness and hate wickedness (see Heb 1:9).
Confession: I am fruitful in every good work, and I am pleasing the Lord in all things. Amen.

Proverbs 13:11 (NLT) Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

Kemi and Grace were best friends who both decided to be entrepreneurs. Kemi got seriously involved with a get-rich-quick scheme. She invested all her money into it and started making huge gains. She was now an evangelist for that scheme and would hold large workshops to get people to join. She was indeed very successful in it. She paid cash for a brand new car in months.

Kemi was very displeased with Grace because Grace refused to join her. Grace was not led to join but insisted she would rather spend her time and effort learning to be an excellent tailor and starting her own clothing brand. For the first two years, things were not easy for Grace, and Kemi would laugh at her but never help.

After the period Grace spent building her skill, she started producing and marketing very nice clothes, and things started picking up. Her business became profitable and continued to grow steadily. By this time, the Ponzi scheme Kemi joined had crashed. She was no more making the huge sums she once made.

Because money initially came so easily to Kemi, she squandered everything she had saved, and every effort she put into starting a profitable business failed because she had lost the power to make wealth. In five years, Kemi was now poor and wished she could be one of Grace’s many employees.

When a person becomes addicted to get-rich-quick schemes, he loses the ability to settle down and get wealth through honest gain. He must always have to find another such scheme in order to stay afloat financially. People who embezzle public funds to become rich have the same fate.

Life is spiritual, and the power to get wealth is spiritually given by God, it can be squandered (see Deut 8:18).

Go into today knowing that it is God who gives you the power to get wealth. Don’t squander yours on a get-rich-quick trap.

Proverbs 13:11(NLT) Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

The smartphone or device with which you are reading or listening to this devotional was purchased because it meets your needs of communication and entertainment. The manufacturer has made money because he has met a need.

Christians are righteous and just people. God blesses us by giving us ideas that help us solve problems. Wealth is generated when problems are solved. Unproductive forms of making money include schemes that promise to produce gain but have no productivity. They include gambling and Ponzi schemes.

As attractive as unproductive forms of making money may look, they are what the Bible calls get-rich-quick schemes. They ultimately bring every society to its knees economically. Imagine that everyone in the world was only involved in such schemes to make money; there would be no more food to eat, no new clothes to wear and no machines to use. The world will shut down because there would no more be productivity but only greed.

A Ponzi scheme is one that promises to provide money and help, yet it has no form of productivity. The only thing a Ponzi scheme does is to use the money new people bring in to pay those who have already brought in money. When there are no more new people in the system, it is bound to crash and produce great loss and pain to the investors; people who invested with the expectation to make gains.

Everyone who makes a profit through a Ponzi scheme or betting makes money from the potential loss of someone else. I believe one of the demonic assignments of Ponzi schemes (betting, gambling, some forms of financial speculation) is to take the power to make real wealth from the people of God.

Go into today knowing that as a Christian, it is not everything the world does to make money that you can do. God empowers you to make enduring wealth according to His principles of righteousness and justice.

Beware of Covetousness

Matthew 6:24 (NET) “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

It wasn't long after Gerald rededicated his life to Christ that he was faced with the temptation to make some quick money [in an unrighteous way] . Because he was now born again and his conscience now alive, he felt a check in his spirit concerning that "opportunity" to make quick money. He wanted to be sure that he was not doing anything that didn't please the Lord. Unfortunately, when he discussed his concerns with one of his Christian brothers in the church, he could see that the brother was not truly interested in knowing whether it was the will of God for one to make money that way, the brother was only interested in making more money. Gerald almost got led astray by that brother, but his discipler came along and showed him why making money that way was unrighteous.

When it comes to matters of money, more believers stumble there than matters of demonic attacks or most other kinds of temptation. The biggest contender with God for your love is mammon. If a believer is not intentional and deliberate about overcoming the love of mammon, he would be cut in it without knowing how much his heart has been consumed by it. Remember, you cannot love God and mammon.

When a believer is not willing to know [and submit to] God's opinion and will when it comes to matters of getting money, it is a sign that he is now enslaved by mammon. On the resurrection morning, many will realize how much ground they lost because their hearts were enslaved by the love of money. May we not be found weeping and gnashing our teeth on that day.

Go into today remembering that one of the biggest threats to your spiritual life is the love of money. There is more warning about this in the Bible by the Lord and His apostles than there is warning about most other tricks of the devil. (see Luke 12:15, Luke 8:14, Hebrews 13:5, 1 Timothy 6:6-10, Ephesians 5:3-5).

Pray: Lord, deliver me from the love of money and help me love you in truth. Help me know that it pays much more to love you than to love mammon.

Luke 16:11 (KJV)If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

I believe there is something about money that made Jesus call it mammon of unrighteousness (also see Luke 16:9). Let’s take a look at the history of money.

Before money was invented (around 1500 BC), humankind did business by barter. People exchanged goods for goods, goods for services, or services for services. But since money was invented, people now exchange goods for money and services for money, etc. The problem with this is that as long as a person has money, he can have its value in goods or services, regardless of how he got the money or whether he truly has the requisite service or good whose value he posses in form of cash. Money, therefore, provided accommodation for unrighteousness in the world more than ever before. Unproductive ways of getting money like Get-rich-quick schemes: Ponzi schemes, gambling, etc. became possible or easier because money now existed. Money now gave proper expression to the spirit called mammon. This spirit seeks to be worshiped rather than God.

Any system that generates money without any form of productivity is an unrighteous system. Such a system will have to generate money by robbing some people to pay other people. Satan loves such thieving systems, he is the thief (see John 10:10). It is no hidden truth that financial speculation has been considered by many nations around the world as an economic canker because it has the capacity of making people who are not really productive in the economy very rich just because they know how to move money around. The future ripple effect of this is economic loopholes that would have to be plugged by wanton government spending in bailouts and debts. I believe the climax of such unchecked economic activities is what would pave way for the coming of the antichrist, who would come to ‘save’ the world from economic woe.

A person who gambles hopes to generate money not by being productive, but by taking advantage of other people’s loss. Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes also fall into this category. Online betting is a form of gambling. These are unrighteous ways of making money because they are thieving methods sanctioned by the prince of this world. They are fueled by greed and nothing else. We know that greed (lust of the eyes) is of the world and not from God (see 1 John 2:16). Nothing of the world should be found in a Christian because they give the prince of this world sway (see John 14:30, 1 John 2:15-16).

Go into today remembering what God says in Proverbs 13:11 (NLT): Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

Proverbs 24:10 (ESV) “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small"

Junior often came home with his face swollen because he was bullied and beaten up by his school mates. After several failed attempts at stopping this continued assault, his parents finally enrolled him in a kickboxing class, he attended the classes after school often with a swollen face. After two months of continuous training, his parents noticed that he no longer returned home traumatized, "what has changed?" They asked. "I beat them up!" Junior responded.

Many Christians today are under the continuous assault of demons, witches, wizards, curses, etc, and are running from one prayer house to another without freedom in sight. Some have even turned to witch doctors, sorcerers, magicians, and the likes for help - - all of which also ends in futility.

How powerful is your enemy? He is powerful to the degree to which you are weak. According to today's passage, you are not failing because your adversaries are too powerful for you, no, you fail because your strength is little.

If you truly desire freedom, you must pay attention to the things that make you spiritually strong and run away from those things that make you weak.

Every form of sin you commit weakens you. Apart from outright sins, there are little disobediences and weights that slow down and prevent believers from ascending the heights of God. We should beware of them.

If you must be stronger than your enemies, if you desire continuous victory, you must pay attention to obeying every instruction God gives. See Isaiah 1:19 and Joshua 7:11-13.

Go into today knowing that sanctification (continuous and complete obedience to God) is what makes for strength to overcome your enemy.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for saving me. I ask for the grace to live in complete obedience to you. Amen!

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (KJV) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

In many countries today, because their leaders are politically elected, many people who did not vote for them do not really wish them success. They forget that if their leaders fail, their country would suffer for it. Indeed, throughout history, many needless wars have been fought and countless lives lost because of the personal failings of those in authority. It is therefore wise to pray for those who occupy seats of power because the gospel of peace prospers when there is peace. People running to and fro to secure their lives because of wars and rumors of wars do not have the ability to settle down to hear the gospel and be discipled.

We pray for our leaders because we want peace in our nations. We want peace in our nations because we want to be able to share the gospel. The gospel prospers and more people are saved when there is peace.

There are [demonic] faith systems that require the lack of peace as a [spiritual] prerequisite for their propagation, but our gospel prospers when there is peace, and we should use our authority as the Church of Christ to bring peace into our territories. Remember, the king's heart is in the hand of the Lord (see Proverbs 21:1).

Go into today remembering that the propagation of the gospel is the most important thing going on in the world today. If this can truly be our basis for our prayers, then our answers would come. When our motive for praying is right, we can be sure God would answer.

Prayer: Father, make me a true agent for the propagation of your gospel. Deliver me from self-centeredness, in Jesus name. Amen.

A Perfect Heart

1 Chronicles 28:9 (KJV) And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

It was the holidays and Ben and his siblings were at home. Ben was so excited about the break because he planned to have lots of fun with his video game. However, his father had other plans. He had noticed Ben’s proclivity towards excessive play and therefore planned out several chores and tasks for him to complete daily for the holidays. He planned it in such a way that there would still be enough time for Ben to play.

Ben was furious, he didn’t want anything to do with the tasks and chores as he felt holidays were for having fun and nothing else. But his father warned him sternly, informing him that he would be grounded from playing video games (among other punishments) should he refuse to carry out the daily tasks. So, every day Ben would grudgingly carry out the task, but because his heart was not in it, he would do them poorly, and more importantly, he failed to learn anything from the experience as he treated it as though it were a prison sentence.

We have all been Ben at one time or the other. A perfect heart goes beyond just doing things, it examines our disposition to doing them. The New English Translation in rendering the text above uses the phrase ‘a submissive attitude and a willing spirit’. When we carry out our tasks grudgingly or without any commitment of heart to it, we are not doing it with a perfect heart.

Note that service to God must be with a perfect heart. Willingness is one manifestation of a perfect heart. 1 Chron 29:9 says, ‘Then the people rejoiced, for they offered willingly because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David also rejoiced with great joy’. A perfect heart is also a heart devoid of offense. It is a pre-requisite for serving God acceptably. Bible spoke of King Amaziah saying, ‘And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart’ (2 Chron 25:2).

Go into today remembering that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro the whole earth seeking to show himself strong on the behalf of those whose heart is perfect towards him (2 Chron 16:9a).

Prayer: Lord, help me serve you with a perfect heart and know you more. Amen.

Ephesians 5:8-10 (NET) for you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light – for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth – trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

When Gerald was a child, he used to be very naughty. But when his parents were expecting visitors and they wanted all their children to be very well behaved especially him, his mother would call him aside and promise to give him some money for being good when the visitors are around. This always worked like a charm. Because of the financial incentive, even as a little boy, Gerald knew how to be good.

As an adult, whenever he wanted something from someone or to impress them, he knew how to act and sound good and kind, but being good and kind was not truly his nature even though he knew the expectations of that nature.

So when after accepting the Lord Jesus, he was taught by his discipler that as a child of light, one of the fruits of his life should be goodness, he knew exactly what it meant. He understood that for him now, being good and kind was not to be a guest attitude when he wanted to impress someone or get something out of them, it was now to be his way of life because he had received the divine nature that makes bad people good.

As Gerald started walking every day with this consciousness of being good, he realized that even though many times, being good was not convenient for the flesh, it was always refreshing to the spirit, and the more he acted in the divine nature of goodness and kindness, the more pleased the Holy Spirit within him was, and this translated to more inner joy and strength in his spirit.

After receiving the new life and the indwelling Holy Spirit, if we walk in our old sinful bad nature, the Holy Spirit [within us] is not pleased but grieved, and this would affect our inner joy and deplete our inner strength. But the more we consciously walk in the divine nature of goodness, righteousness, and truth, the Holy Spirit within us is pleased and He rejoices. This joy of the Lord within us will fill our hearts with joy and strengthen us.

Go into today remembering that the joy of the Lord is your strength. Let the words you say and the things you do be pleasing to the Lord. This is the source of your inner joy and peace.

Prayer Confession: As a child of God I walk in the divine nature. I am pleasing the Lord in all things, and fruitful in every good work.

Colossians 2:8 (NET) Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Many of the Gentile Christians in Colossi were greatly harassed by some Jewish teachers who insisted that they needed to also be converted to Judaism in order for their salvation to be complete. Some of the believers in Gentile territory were deceived by these doctrines and some of them started observing Jewish festivals and feasts, started circumcising their children, and even worshiping according to Jewish tradition.

Today, we may see traces of this same error in the body of Christ; it seems to be creeping in gradually. There are some Christians today that actually believe that their prayers have more merit when prayed at the Wailing Wall in Israel. Some have even gone as far as beginning to practice some of the Jewish feasts because they have been told that there is some power in doing such things. I have heard that some Christians have started celebrating the Passover, and some even partaking in the animal sacrifice which is a part of that festival.

Please remember that as a believer in Christ Jesus, the covenant you have with God is superior to the covenant a Jew who is not saved has with God. We have a better covenant with better promises (Heb 7:22, 8:6). You do not have to become a Jew in any way for you to walk in the fullness of the blessing. That doctrine is a lie from the pit of hell and it brings believers under the dominion of elemental spirits.

Go into today thanking God because He has made you complete in Christ Jesus (Col 2:10). You do not need any Jewish tradition to be made complete.

1 Corinthians 15:25 (NET) Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

After Gerald accepted the Lord Jesus, he was baptized and introduced to an entirely different way of life. His evil and sinful desires were no longer the controlling force of his life, and he discovered he was now free from within and had an inner joy and peace that words could not explain.

Even though his discipler had warned him to cut his ties with his former friends with whom he used to commit sins, he started hanging out with them again because he told himself that they did not have the power to influence him but he would rather influence them. He used to be their leader. He was deceiving himself by thinking he could continue his friendship with them and not be corrupted.

After several weeks of continuing his friendship with them, he came back to his senses one night while he was in a night club with them doing all the sinful things they used to do before. At that point, he realized he had gone back to how he used to be. He was sad because he really wanted to stay free. He went back to his discipler, repented, and was restored. He had now learned experientially that bad company truly corrupts good morals, that's not something the strongest willed person can control.

One of the very potent deceptions of the devil today is that company and communication (and the content of what entertains you) do not really matter.

Today's Bible verse was taken from a section of the letter apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian Christians. In that section, Apostle Paul was addressing a strange doctrinal belief that was becoming prevalent among the brethren in that city (read 1 Corinthians 15). One thing was clear, the brethren were being influenced by other sources of information that is contrary to the scriptures. They were communicating with sources of information that apostle Paul is now referring to as evil.

When a believer spends time regularly to watch unwholesome programs on TV and thinks it doesn't matter, he is deceiving himself by not realizing that evil communication will corrupt his good morals. Remember, whatever entertains you enters you.

Go into today remembering to guard your heart with all diligence because out of it are the issues of life (see Proverbs 4:23).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to give you strength and wisdom to cut off from every source of evil communication and keep your mind stayed on Him.
Pray with Isaiah 26:3 (KJV): Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Difference Between Works and Good Works

2 Timothy 2:20-21 KJV “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work".

Roy: I don't do that kind of business, I'm a Christian

Pato: What do you mean? Am I not a Christian too? I bankroll an orphanage and have been to the holy land twice with the proceeds from this same business. What have you done? I'm a better Christian than you.

When someone called Jesus “good master” in Matthew 19:16-17, Jesus responded by saying “there is none good but one, that is, God”. Then in verse 21, Jesus said to the man, “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me". By this, Jesus made it clear that only God is good, thus to be good, you have to know God and this is by following Him (Jesus).

It is those who are following Jesus that can do good works, they will if they purge themselves from evil (2 Tim.2:21). The best an unbeliever (one who is not under the Lordship of Jesus Christ) can do is charity. Only those born of God can do Good works. Good works are what would accrue eternal rewards for people.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (KJV) says “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work”. You see, the one who empowers for good works is Jesus.

Go into knowing that charitable works do not make one good. You become good by yielding to Jesus, and then, your works become good works.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I declare that you are my Lord, please establish me in every good word and work. Amen

Impending Judgment

Acts 24:25 (NET)While Paul was discussing righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”

When Lamar accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, he didn’t accept Christ because someone told him that that was a ticket to a better life (that gospel could never appeal to Lamar because he was born into great wealth), he believed in Christ because he now realized that Christ was the only one who could shield him from the judgment that was sure to come. He had several disturbing dreams before a preacher brought the gospel to him, and in those dreams, he saw himself descending into hell fire. He knew he was doomed but didn’t know the way out until the gospel came to him.

Today, there is a conscious effort by some to remove the warning about the judgment of God from the preaching of the gospel. Any gospel message that does not properly explain the ramification of Jesus' salvation from impending judgment is a weak gospel. One main point of the gospel message is that receiving Jesus is the only way to escape the impending damnation (see John 3:18).

From today’s Bible verse, we can clearly see that one element of the gospel message preached by the apostles was ‘The Judgment of God’. When in the days of the apostles, people they preached to asked ‘what shall we do [to be saved]?’(see Acts 2:37, 16:30) they asked this question because they understood that there is impending judgment and doom, and they wanted to be saved from it.

Go into today remembering that there is coming judgment on all humankind. The only way to escape it is through the salvation of Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to make you more effective in helping people escape eternal damnation by preaching the gospel to them.

James 1:15 (ESV) “Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death".

For about three and a half years Judas Iscariot was with Jesus, for all of these years he lusted after money. He sometimes helped himself with money from the purse (John 12:6) but when the little money from the purse could no longer satisfy him, the devil brought him a proposal on how to ‘hit it big'. “Sell you boss" the devil whispered. Judas Iscariot yielded (Matt 26:14-26) and sold Jesus out. What he did brought him under a curse that led him to eternal damnation (Matthew 26:24).

Learn to control your desires, but if your desires have given birth to sin, don't let sin grow.

You will gain control over your desires by renewing your mind (Romans 12:2) through the word of God (Eph 5:26). You cut the life of sin short by confessing and forsaking it (John 1:9; Prob 28:13), but when sin is allowed to grow, it will produce death (see Romans 8:13).

If you refuse to confess and forsake your sins but condone and cover them, you will not have mercy (Prov 28:13), that is to say, you will be judged (condemned) because it is mercy that triumphs over judgment (James 2:13).

After you have confessed and forsaken a sin, watch out for the desire or desires that produced it, then constantly and vehemently combat such desires in the place of prayer using the appropriate scriptures until grace to control such desires has been supplied.

Go into today knowing that learning to subject your desires to the truth of the word of God is the secret to victory over sin.

Pray: Lord Jesus, help me to live victoriously over sin and death. Amen

Matthew 13:19 (KJV)When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

The power of the word of God is in its understanding; the word is powerful in your life to the extent to which you understand it.

Paul in Ephesians 1:17-21 prayed like this: “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”

Did you know that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power at work in you? There should be no dead situations in your life because of this power. But if there is, could it be that you are yet to understand the word of God with respect to those situations?

Go into today asking the Holy Spirit who is the author of the word to help your understanding so that you would begin to enjoy the riches of the glory of His inheritance for you.
