1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NET) I put this charge before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you, in order that with such encouragement you may fight the good fight. To do this you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

Apart from being physically fit and having the right weapons, battle formation, and tactics, every serious military unit understands the power of morale. If the soldiers are depressed and discouraged, they may lose the battle even if they have the best weapons and skill set.

We can see from today's scripture that prophecies bring encouragement and with such encouragement we are to fight the good fight. There are specific prophecies that you may have received concerning your life, such should be remembered and used as a weapon of spiritual warfare because the prophecies are the word of God and we know that the word of God is the sword of the Spirit. There are also general prophecies concerning us in scripture. Meditating upon the word of God until such promises and prophesies become yours is as powerful as remembering the specific prophecies spoken to you by God.

But notice from today's scripture that in order to fight the good fight you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience. Those whose consciences are defiled will not have the morale for spiritual Warfare and victory. A defiled conscience punctures and erodes faith, and without faith, we cannot overcome because the victory that overcomes the world is our faith (1 John 5:4).

Go into today remembering that life in this present world is an opportunity for you to be an Overcomer. This means there is Warfare. The only way we can continue to overcome is if we hold unto faith and a good conscience.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you avoid anything that causes defilement of conscience.

Honor Your Father and Mother

1 Corinthians 4:15 (NET) For though you may have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, because I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Kaura was facing unending battles and challenges. He knew something was fundamentally wrong spiritually, but he could not place his finger on it. As he continued to seek the Lord to find out where the problem was, the Lord sent a prophet to tell him that he needs to start honoring his father as a thing of necessity. He immediately knew that the Lord wanted him to connect with his father in the Lord who he never really honored. When his father in the Lord started praying for him, things became well with him?

When the Lord said we should not call anyone father, but God (Matt 23:9), there was a context to this statement. In that culture, Father was not just the male parent of a household, but someone considered to be the source and sustainer of the household. So what the Lord is saying is that we should not consider any man to be our source, sustainer, or provider. Only God is our source and sustainer, even though He uses men to help us as He pleases.

The Lord was not banning the use of the word ‘father’ because He is the one who commanded us to honor our fathers and mothers(see Eph 6:1).

Your salvation was not a coincidence, and the person through whom it came to you was not a coincidence either. Just like those through whom God sent us into this world are our fathers (and God approves of this characterization), those through whom we got into the kingdom of God are our fathers or mothers also. I do not mean those who got us to pray the ‘sinner’s prayer’ the very first time we did, I mean those through whom we came to know the Lord in reality.

Go into today remembering that it is wrong to see any man as your sustainer and pillar in life. Also, remember that we are to honor our fathers and mothers, so that it may be well with us (see Eph 6:1).

Strengthened by the Spirit

Ephesians 3:16 (KJV) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man

Larry heard his wife crying in the bathroom and felt really bad because of the sharp words he had spoken to her. He regretted those words and wished he could unsay them. This was not the first time that week that Larry was acting and speaking out of control.

As he investigated why his temper had become so short and his words no more seasoned with salt, he observed that it was because his spirit was now weak. He needed strength in his inner man.

Everyone who has new birth in Christ has an inner man that has been recreated in the image of God (Colossians 3:10). This inner man wars against the flesh and the flesh against it. The stronger the inner man, the less the person would walk in the flesh, but if the inner man is weak, it would be easy for the flesh to dominate the person.

It is by the Spirit of God that we are strengthened with power in the inner man. Apostle Paul understood that when believers don't have strength in their inner-man, they would not be able to walk properly as sons of God, this was why he prayed for the brethren that God would grant unto them this strength(see Ephesians 3:15-17).

The stronger you are in the inner man the more you can manifest the divine nature and walk in the power of God. The word of God is spirit and life. This is a source of strength for the inner man. Through the diet word, we grow into the fullness of our stature, which is a powerful one. Prayer is another way we receive strength because when we pray, our spirits fellowship with God, and His strength is transmitted to us in the process.

Go into today remembering that strength in your inner man is the secret to living victoriously in Christ. Many are attacked and faint because their strength is little. Determine to give yourself to the ministry of the Word and prayer so that you will be strengthened.

Prayer: Father, please strengthen me with power by your Spirit in my inner man.

Mark 16:16 (NET) The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

I remember preaching to a young man. While preaching, the power of God came so mightily that through word of knowledge I knew many secret things about him. I told him some of them and that was a sign that led to him confessing the Lord Jesus. I wanted so much to get him baptized and disciple him, but I was led against that. I knew he was not my disciple. As events will unfold in the future, it became clear to me that someone else would be the one to disciple him.

The Lord can give you personal instructions that may look outside the norm, but they still will not contradict His will as revealed in scripture. If the Lord restrains you from doing something you think is needful, it is because he has arranged for someone else to do it.

I have seen some ministers leave disciples unbaptized, and many quote Apostle Paul who said the Lord did not send him to baptize but only to preach. They forget that the people Paul was writing to were already baptized by the time he wrote to them. To baptize disciples is a commandment of the Lord and everyone who believes should be baptized. (See Matt 28:19).

Apostle Paul was not instructed to baptize the Corinthians because the Lord wanted other ministers to baptize and disciple them. The wisdom of the Lord in instructing Paul to only preach was revealed when Paul had to use that as one of his greatest points to prove to the Corinthians that he was not called to disciple them, but Apollos was. He said 'I planted, Apollos watered… '(1 Cor 3:6).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you rightly discern His will.

God's Eternal Plan

Luke 17:20-21(KJV) ...the kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Right from the foundation of the world God intended to extend His Kingdom from heaven to earth. His eternal plan, which would be manifested, according to the scriptures, is to establish His reign here on earth. The physical dimension and takeover of God's kingdom over this earth would happen when the Lord returns with His saints and the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ. We shall literally reign over every territory of this earth for a thousand years(see Revelation 20:4), and we would reign forever over the new heavens and earth that would come after (see Revelation 21).

Satan thought he had won when he got Adam to sin. When Jesus came into the scene, satan had Him killed and thought he had won again. Both Satan and his demons never knew the wisdom of God "...for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory"(1 Corinthians 2:8).

Jesus Christ is the real deal. He came to establish the Kingdom of God here on earth. Today, everyone that accepts the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and believes in Him has the kingdom of God literary within them. Such who live lives submitted to the kingdom is an heir of the throne of the kingdom (Romans 8:17) and is going to reign with Christ at the physical establishment of that Kingdom (Revelation 3:21).

When asked by the Pharisees about the kingdom, He said, "...the kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." He was telling them that the Kingdom of God had come already. Many of them did not believe in Him because they expected a more spectacular arrival of the kingdom, but that was how they missed out. Jesus was the physical carrier of the kingdom but they knew it not. We are carriers of the kingdom but the world does not know. God is fulfilling His eternal plan through us already, for as more people receive Christ as Lord and Saviour, the more the Kingdom of God is spreading.

As you go into today, remember that you are a carrier of God's kingdom. This is an awesome privilege.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You for Your eternal plan and I thank You for making me part of it. As a carrier of Your Kingdom, I go ahead today, recruiting more people to be part of the Kingdom. I am not slack towards it, as I look forward to the establishment of the Kingdom physically, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Walking In The Call

1 Corinthians 4:9 (NET) For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.

When Collins started becoming interested in serving the Lord, naturally, he wanted to be at the peak of this service. After being in church for a while, he observed that many considered the office of the apostle to be the highest in the body of Christ. Because of this, he wanted also to be an apostle. Because he was really committed and dedicated to the work in his local church, he was soon ordained as a minister. But still, he wanted to be called an apostle.

One morning, he was studying the word of God when he came across today’s Bible verse. He read it again and again, and this really scared him. From that moment, he started changing his mind concerning his dream to someday become an apostle.

Whether a person is an apostle, or a prophet, or an evangelist, or a pastor and teacher, is not really his decision to make. These things are determined by God from before the person is born (see Gal 1:15, Jer 1:5). But whether a person ends up walking in God’s call for his life is dependent on how he responds to God during the days of his sojourning here on earth. Many indeed are called, but few are chosen. The difference between the chosen and the rest is faithfulness (Rev 17:14). God doesn’t entrust much to the unfaithful (see Luke 16:10).

I do not believe that everyone who has the call to be an apostle must necessarily die for the faith (Apostle John didn’t die the death of a martyr), but I believe that everyone who must effectively walk in his call must have the mindset of an apostle. One that is willing to give up his life (if need be) for the sake of the gospel (see Luke 14:26, Rev 12:11).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you fulfill His call for your Life. This is the most important thing in life.

Ephesians 3:10-11 (KJV) To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord

Henry observed that his marriage was falling apart. He had made very many foolish and selfish decisions that made him contemptible to his inlaws and his wife. The damage now seemed irreparable and divorce seemed inevitable. Unknown to him, his marriage was under the manipulation of demonic principalities in his family. They had concluded on the desolation of his marriage from the day he got married. He would later discover this through the confession of a relative who was delivered from sorcery and witchcraft.

But after accepting the Lord Jesus and allowing the word of God rule his life, because of this, he started walking in such wisdom that his marriage that was falling apart became very strong and happy again. This dimension of wisdom confounded the principalities that had concluded their plans to destroy his marriage and life. The demonic principalities in his village had concluded that his marriage was going to be destroyed, but after becoming a disciple of Christ, through obedience to the word of God, Henry walked in the wisdom that confounded the principalities and powers, and his marriage was saved.

Even though the devil and his principalities have been around for a very long time, and they have been exposed to see firsthand the power and the wisdom of God, there are dimensions of God's wisdom that will only be revealed to them through the church--this is an awesome privilege for us believers.

If you are a member of the body of Christ, you are to walk in God's great wisdom because one of our mandates as Christ's church is the Revelation of the wisdom of God. Jesus sent us as sheep among wolves and expects us to survive and dominate because we are to walk in superior wisdom. He says we should be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves (see Matthew 10:6). Serpents are so wise that despite the fact that they have no limbs, they are able to continue to survive in the wild because they understand the power of their tongue and are very purposeful in all their movements. Children of God should be the wisest people walking the face of the earth.

Go into today remembering to ask God for wisdom concerning every situation that may seek to trouble your heart. As a child of God through faith in Christ, God will give you His wisdom if you would only ask in faith(see James 1:5)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for making me an advertiser of your wisdom. From today, please help me depend on you and walk in greater measures of your wisdom and power, In Jesus' name. Amen.

False Sense of Secuity

1 Corinthians 4:8 (NET) Already you are satisfied! Already you are rich! You have become kings without us! I wish you had become kings so that we could reign with you!

Gbenga and his wife were fond of criticizing and judging servants of God. They were experts at searching out faults of men of God and criticizing them (many of their criticisms were based on false assumptions and partial truths). They felt they had the authority to do this because they believed they were spiritually gallant and were now great people in the kingdom of God who had the authority and the ability to judge. Their main reason for this feeling was because materially speaking, things were going well for them, and they felt this was a function of their spiritual might. But they were wrong. They were still spiritual babes who needed to be taught the rudiments of the faith. But with this mindset, they could not be taught and could not be fruitful.

Like the church in Laodicea (Rev 3:17), the young church in Corinth began to have a false sense of security because of their worldly riches. Physically speaking, they were doing well and had money. They thought because of how things were going well for them physically, it was an indication of their advancement and greatness in the kingdom of God. Many of them believed that they had become kings and rulers in the kingdom, and they felt they now had the authority to judge the servants of God and compare one to another(see 1 Cor 4:3-6). But they were wrong, they were still spiritual babes (see 1 Cor 3:1) and were heading for the rocks without the apostolic intervention of Paul.

If criticizing ministers of God has become your ‘spiritual gift’, it is a sign of spiritual immaturity and retrogression.

Go into today remembering that the real measure of spiritual might is faithfulness and humility.

Acts 1:8 (NET) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth."

After Seyi received the revelation that made him realize he was now a new creature because of his faith in Christ Jesus, he knew that he needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He kept on reading books about the Holy Spirit and realized that the Holy Spirit is the secret of Holiness. Anyone truly filled with the HOLY Spirit will be HOLY.

He didn’t only want to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit, he wanted to remain filled for the rest of his life. He knew that was the only way he would stay without backsliding again. Staying on fire for God became his biggest priority in life. He sought this with the whole of his heart. He didn’t want to be a slave to sin any longer. He loved his newfound freedom in Christ and the boldness and authority it brought. He was no longer tormented by demons but now had the power to cast them out, etc.

I have come to realize that if many Christians seek the Kingdom of God the way they seek to have more money, many will be so powerful that their world would have been set on fire for Christ. You cannot seek the Kingdom of God without seeking His righteousness. This righteousness is ministered to your Spirit by the Holy Ghost. He empowers you to walk above sin in this world.

Go into today remembering that the Holy Spirit empowers you to be Holy. Seeking the kingdom of God also means seeking to be filled with the Spirit at all times.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you to be filled at all times (see Eph 5:18-20).

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NET) So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away-look, what is new has come!

After Seyi had believed for two years, he looked back at his past life to see if there was any difference. He could not find much difference. He was still bound to iniquity and was still the same old Seyi. This made him doubt if he was really born again. 'How can I be born again and still be doing these things' he would say to himself time and time again.

He believed that what he needed was deliverance and he went from Pastor to Pastor seeking it. Each pastor he visited prayed for him and told him he had been delivered, but he still went back to his old sins and habits. He really desired to serve God and live Holy before Him, but he found that his desire was not strong enough to make him leave his old life.

One day, he saw a post on Facebook that made him realize that he was already a new creation because of his faith in Christ. Wearers he was trying to be a new creation, he did not realize that he was made a new creation by God, not by himself. When he had this revelation, his life changed. Immediately, he realized that he needed to change his friends because he was now a new creature. He realized that he now had the power to say 'NO' to sin because he was now a new creature. He would say to himself 'would a new creature do this?' and would find the strength to resist temptations.

Go into today knowing that understanding who you are is very important. An eagle that believes it is a chicken will never fly high.

John 8:32 (KJV) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

After Chinonso failed the same examination two consecutive times, he got tired of life. Even though he was a Christian who had been baptized in the Holy Ghost, he contemplated giving up [on God]. The next opportunity to rewrite the exam would be his last chance. It was at this time of depression that he found the scripture verse(Ps 84:7) that says “they go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God”. He responded to this light by choosing a specific time and place where he would stay in God’s presence(appear before God) each day through prayer and the word. Even though he couldn’t pray sometimes, he remained there in his place of prayer, waiting on God.

Chinonso passed the examination with flying colors the next time he took it. He could only attribute his resounding success this time to the strength he had received by daily waiting on the Lord.

The word of God reveals the truth that makes people free (John 8:31-32). Many have the Bible and have memorized some of it but are not free. This is because the word has not been revealed to them as the truth. The day you find the truth, it will make you free.

The way to know that what you have is the truth is through the freedom that accompanies it. Those who walk in the truth of God’s word cannot walk anymore in bondage (to sin or any demonic limitation). You can have the letter of scripture as memory verses and quote them fluently, but if you are not free because of them, you have not really met with the truth.

Ask the Lord to open your eyes to His light (the truth) for you for this season and help you appropriate the full benefits of your freedom and riches in Christ. This is the secret of a victorious Christian life. Know that when the truth comes, it changes your mind and influences your conduct.

Ephesians 2:17-18 (NET) And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, so that through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Lora was born into a Christian family. Her grandparents were missionaries and her parents were very committed church leaders in their community. When her elder and younger sister were baptized in the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues, she was there but didn’t receive the Holy Ghost. She always felt far away from God and she would blame herself for this. She believed she was more sinful than anyone in her family and that was why God wasn’t interested in her. She was wrong.

When she moved to the city for college, she started keeping company with certain hip girls who were godless to the core.

Many years passed and Lora had lived a godless hollow life. On a certain Thursday morning, she remembered the peace and love in the home she grew up in and longed to have just a little of that in her own home. Lora felt so far away from the Lord that she did not know if He was still interested in saving her. She was watching Christian television that morning when she heard the preacher reading from today's Bible verses. She burst into tears because the verse spoke directly to her. "Jesus is interested in people like me who are far away too" she exclaimed. That day was the day Lora accepted Christ as her Lord and savior. She received the baptism of the Holy Spirit that same day.

The Jews who were near to God and the Gentiles who were far away both needed reconciliation with God. No matter how far a person might seem from God, or no matter how close to God a person might seem because of piety and moral uprightness, they need the gospel of Christ in order to be reconciled with God.

Are you feeling far away from God today because of your personal failings? Its time to be reconciled to God. God is more interested in being reconciled with you than you want to be reconciled with Him.

Go into today remembering that Christ will in no wise cast away they that come to the Father through Him (see John 6:37).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice that is the bases of my reconciliation with the Father. Father, please help me know you and live always in the consciousness of your love and grace. Amen.

Psalm 119:1-3 (KJV) Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

When Clara got into university, she was very young and quite naïve, but she knew the Lord and how to hear from Him. One evening she was praying, it became very clear to her from the Lord that she was never to attend any parties on that campus. As a new student who was very beautiful, she got so many invitations to all kinds of parties. There were birthday parties, welcome parties, departmental parties, etc.

One young man who was in her department had been trying to date her, but she refused. He was a bad boy. He found out about her birthday and planned a birthday party for her in his apartment. Unknown to Clara, he and his friends had planned to drug her food and rape her after the party.
Clara bluntly refused to attend her own birthday party because she had earlier received instruction from the Lord never to attend parties. She was saved from the evil plot of those boys because she kept the testimony of the Lord.

The testimonies of God are personalized instructions from God given to you to guide your life. They may not apply the same way to other people, but for you, breaking them is disobedience.

When God instructed that Samson was never to cut his hair, that was a testimony of God for Him. That was his secret of overcoming in life.

Go into today knowing that as you walk with the Lord, you will receive testimonies that will be your secret of overcoming (see Rev 12:11).

Romans 8:18-19 (KJV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Have you ever seen a parked car grow newer with time?
In this old creation, things grow older, not newer. Things naturally gravitate towards disorder not order. That is a result of the curse of corruption. But so great is the glory that would be revealed in us (who believe) that it would lead to the liberation of all creation from the curse of corruption.
The curse of corruption is what makes things grow old and worn. But when our glory is revealed in the resurrection,  all of creation will be set free from the curse of corruption (see Romans 8:21).

Ignorance concerning who we are and what we are in Christ is the reason some believers are profane like Esau; trading their priceless eternal inheritance[of rewards] for temporary trappings of this world.

Go into today remembering that all creation awaits the manifestation of your glory. Even now,  by the Spirit, we get to walk in the foretaste of this reality. We are God's light in this dark world(see Isaiah 60:1-2, Matthew 5:16).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to multiply within you the grace to shine in light in this dark world and live in the hope of His calling.

1 Corinthians 4:5 (NET) So then, do not judge anything before the time. Wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the motives of hearts. Then each will receive recognition from God.

Chinonye received the Lord Jesus when she was a teenager and had grown to know the Lord. Because of this, she responded differently to situations she came across in life. Her colleagues in the office wondered why she was so calm and collected and so easily willing to forgive wicked offenders and overlook the most grievous trespasses against her. She tried to explain to them that even though people may escape human judgment on this earth, no one was going to escape God's judgment on the Day of Judgment. Because of this understanding, she didn't try to revenge because she knew God was going to judge. Eternal judgment didn't look like a time too long to wait for her because she knew she had eternal life and now had the proper perspective of time.

We can see from scripture that there are times that the spirit of judgment could come upon believers, as willed by the Lord, and they would proclaim judgment against the Lord's enemies (see Acts 13:11). But it has to be a result of the Lord’s leading, not a result of the fleshly desire to get vengeance.

Sometimes, because they wanted their vengeance instantly, believers have used their spiritual power to destroy people that would have later been a blessing to them and to the world. There probably would be no 'Apostle Paul' if Stephen had used his authority to pray down judgment on those responsible for his execution (see Acts 7:58-60).

Go into today meditating on this:
Romans 12:19 (NIV): Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live with eternity in view and live before you accurately. Amen.

Be Anxious for Nothing

Phillipians 4.6 (ESV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

After God had given the promise of an heir to Abram, Sarai his wife in anxiety counseled him to have Hagar her maid for a wife (Genesis 16). Sarai worried about her obvious state of barrenness, her age, and her husband’s. Her worries were legitimate; she was obviously barren, her husband was already 85 years old and she had gone past the age of bearing herself; she was 75 years old. Abram consented to his wife’s counsel and Ismael; a wild man whose hand will be against every man and upon whom every man’s hand shall be against was the result (Genesis 16:12).

Like Sarai, do you have legitimate reasons to worry? Obviously, yes! Why then should God expect you not to worry when He knows that you have obvious reasons to worry? He expects you to trust Him.

A father will be proud when his child in the midst of other children shows that he is dependable. You also will make God proud when even in the face of seemingly impossible situations, you choose to depend on Him by refusing to be anxious or worried.

Know that whenever you worry as a child of God, you are actually doubting God and if that worry is not quickly arrested, your actions will end up confessing that God is incapable of helping you. Note also that decisions made out of anxiety and fear will never glorify God, they will most likely produce an ‘Ismael'.

How then should one handle anxiety or worry? Apostle Peter says it is by casting all your cares upon him (the Lord); for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7).

Note the use of the word ‘casting’. it shows a present and continuous duty. You will have to continually cast your cares upon the Lord, else, you will be anxious. We do this in the place of prayer. Every time anxiety seems to rise, pray about the matter until the peace of God replaces the anxiety in your heart( see Philippians 4:6-7).

Go into today knowing that no anxiety or worry is from God, and getting anxious or worried is an indication that there is a care that you’re yet to cast upon the Lord.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to always cast my cares upon you and make you proud by living free of all anxieties. Amen!

Is The Law Now Useless?

Galatians 3:23-25 (NLT) Until faith in Christ was shown to us as the way of becoming right with God, we were guarded by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until we could put our faith in the coming Savior. Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian and teacher to lead us until Christ came. So now, through faith in Christ, we are made right with God. But now that faith in Christ has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.

When Scholar tried to correct her friend Jane, Jane responded, " Eh! Eh! I’m no longer under the law, I'm now under grace''. Scholar had noticed that Jane’s craving for money was going out of hand, so she tried to call her notice to it, but Jane refused her warning. Jane eventually entered into a relationship with a very rich man who was a drug dealer. Although aware of this man's source of income, Jane’s love for money blinded her eyes. She became pregnant for him and felt it was okay since money was flowing her way. The man was arrested eventually tried and found guilty for murder. His property was confiscated and he sentenced to death. Jane was left with nothing as the baby mama of a disgraced murderer.

Jane returned to Scholar ashamed and full of regrets, but by the help of the Holy Spirit, she was taken through a process of recovery.

Without the law, it was impossible to judge sin. It was the law that showed how sinful sin truly is.

Romans 7:7 (NLT) Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is evil? Of course not! The law is not sinful, but it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "Do not covet."

The law shows us our wretchedness and helplessness, this in turn causes us to seek help. In the Old Testament, this help came through sacrifices but in the New Testament, it has come eternally in Jesus Christ.

If a man must know the true worth of Jesus' sacrifice, he must know how lost, wretched, and helpless he is without Jesus. The law is the agency that makes this possible. It is after identifying your helplessness that you can cry out for mercy, then mercy leads you to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16) where you will meet with the one who sits on the throne, even Christ Jesus.

Go into today understanding that the law will never lose its relevance as long as there is a single soul who is unsaved or as long as sin exists.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to enjoy your mercy and grace. Please open my eyes to behold wondrous things out of your law. Amen

Not Worthy To Be Compared

Romans 8:18 (KJV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
If you think about who God is and all His has, it is simply too awesome for our 1.5kg brain to fully comprehend. Yet, we are going to inherit all that belongs to God as heirs of God through Christ Jesus(Romans 8:7, Revelation 21:7).

What we know is that we shall be as He is because we shall see Him face to face(1 John 3:2). We shall rule and reign with Him and even judge the angels(see 1 Corinthians 6:3). We shall inherit all things (Revelation 21:7).

Even though we know that it is those who live for Christ and [are willing to] suffer for Him that would be counted worthy to reign with Him in glory, it is foolishness to think that our suffering for Him is able to earn us our eternal glory. The sufferings of this present time cannot be compared to the glory. If we suffered for Christ to the point of death in one billion lifetimes, it still wouldn't be sufficient to earn the glory that we would receive.

God is not interested in our suffering, He is interested in our faithfulness. It is just that being faithful to Him would require denial of the flesh and may incur persecution from those still controlled by the Prince of this present world who is an enemy of Christ. As you are reading this Devotional today, many of our brethren in Pakistan, parts of India, and the Middle East are experiencing great persecution because of their faith in Christ. Many in the middle east are even denied passports so that they cannot get visas to flee their countries where they are being persecuted for their faith. Even in certain parts of northern Nigeria today, believers who are qualified for promotion in public service are denied a promotion because they are believers. Qualified students are denied admission into government-owned subsidized tertiary institutions because they have Christian names. We can go on and on, but the point is this: those who would not deny the faith because of worldly pressures are proving that they are faithful in the little, and much more would be given to them (Luke 16:10-12). They would rule and reign with the Lord in the eternal kingdom that is coming to sweep away every other kingdom in this earth.

Go into today asking the Lord for the grace to be faithful to Him in the face of pressures.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help to be faithful to you until the end. Please help me to not miss my eternal reward but reign with you in glory on that day. Amen.

Being His Witness Requires Power

Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Ray could not keep silent, he spoke to all his friends and everyone around him about his new life in Christ. He used to be addicted to drugs, gambling, and sexual immorality. His family had given up on him after sending him several times to the rehab. His weaknesses and addictions were now overpowered by this new power he encountered. Ray had received Jesus into his life after attending a crusade. He went on to be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that delivered him and moved him to speak to others about Jesus.

But after some time, Ray observed that his zeal had started to wane. This got him really bordered. Wanting to know why this was happening, he chose to pray for hours in tongues consistently for many days. After continuing in this discipline for several days, he observed that his zeal was restored. He also observed that he could now manifest some spiritual gifts.

After this experience, Ray understood that it takes power to live the life of a witness unto Christ. He also now knew that one way to access this power of the Holy Ghost is by giving one’s self to lengthy and consistent prayer in the spirit(in tongues).

Many believers no longer have exciting personal moments with the Lord. Their most exciting moment was at the point of receiving Christ or when they got baptized in the Holy Ghost. So after many years pass, they find that they have not been able to be effective witnesses; they now only derive their sense of fulfillment from activities. They are seen as active in Church but their lives are a contradiction of what they profess when you get closer to them. Because of this, their wives/children, friends, and associates are rebellious and are indifferent toward the Lord. If this describes you, what you need is the power of the Holy Ghost. It is by His strength that you are empowered to live a consecrated and powerful life (Philippians 2:13). If you have never been baptized in the Holy Ghost, ask for it. And if you have been baptized, ask God to fill you again (Acts 4:31).

Go into today remembering that it takes power to be an effective witness unto Christ. The way to appropriate this power is by praying consistently in the spirit (tongues) (Jude 1:20).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to quicken you to pray as you ought to pray.

Servants of Christ

1 Corinthians 4:2 (NET) Now what is sought in stewards is that one be found faithful.

When it became clear to Eze that he too was a servant (minister) of Christ, he became more faithful to the Lord; he was now more committed to soul-winning and discipleship, was now faithful in the way he handled his money, was now committed to the ministry of the word and prayer, and was now accountable to his brethren.

Many believers are not as faithful as they can be because they do not know that they too are servants of Christ. They think it is only their pastors that are servants of Christ. But the Bible makes it clear that all believers are ministers --servants of God (see Eph 4:12, 2 Cor 5:18).

While children in a household are still babies, they are unable to serve in any capacity. But as they grow up, they are able to serve and handle responsibility in the family. As they further grow, a point will come that their father will feel comfortable to let them handle the family business. God wants you to handle great power in the kingdom, but it is required that you be found faithful.

One of the more popular Bible verses today is from Isaiah 54:17, it says: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,’ Says the Lord”. This promise is actually meant for the servants of the Lord and every believer should be one. But how many really serve the Lord?

Go into today remembering that as a son in the household of God, you are expected to serve the Lord in faithfulness.
As you meditate on ways you can become more active in serving the Lord, ask Him to empower you to this end.

1 Corinthians 4:1 (NKJV) Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Yinka's Grandma lived with them in the city. She was an unbeliever and could not understand what her children and grandchildren were always going to do in church every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. She had observed for years that they were always excited to go to church.

On a given Wednesday evening, she curiously asked: “what is it that you go to do in the church and stay so long and would still be so excited to go next time?”

Yinka responded: ma, we go to hear the word of God.

Grandma: "Which word that[sic] has not finished for all these years? Don't you get tired of it? Is it not the same old Bible that they read it from?"

For the first time, it occurred to Yinka that her Pastors didn't merely preach from the Bible, but were stewards of the mysteries of God. This was why they never ran out of fresh word from God that blessed the people. She invited her grandma to come to church with them. This time, she agreed to go with them just to see what made them so excited. That was the day Yinka's grandma accepted the Lord Jesus.

Every servant of Christ is a Steward of the mysteries of God. This is an awesome privilege. But just like most things in the kingdom of God, he must walk in this reality by faith, and this faith is activated by knowledge. He must know that as a servant of Christ, he is a steward of the mysteries of God.

Go into today remembering that through the church, the manifold wisdom of God is made known to the rulers and authorities in the spirit realm (Eph 3:10). This is because we have access to the mysteries of God.

Ephesians 2:11-13 (NET) Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh – who are called “uncircumcision” by the so-called “circumcision” that is performed on the body by human hands – that you were at that time without the Messiah, alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who used to be far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
"Romans 11:20-21 (KJV) Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee."

Ugo got into the university through the scholarship of a good politician in her village. She didn't attend the kind of good secondary schools that her roommates and classmates attended, and she wasn't from affluent homes like them. Because she was wise, she never forgot where she was coming from (a poor and impoverished family in a poor village). She knew she had to be extra serious because she couldn't afford to fail. Unlike her roommates who lived riotously and sometimes got arrested and bailed out immediately by their influential parents, Ugo knew she couldn't afford that. Because Ugo never forgot where she was coming from and this made her extra serious, even though she had a weaker academic background, she performed more excellently that all her mates. She became a star in that school and got a very good job because of that.

Today's scripture is quite instructive to the believer who does not have a Jewish heritage. You see, there is a reason the Lord Jesus could only come through a very specific bloodline, and that reason is not a joke. But what He came to do for mankind trumps every ordinance or system before he came. He came so that in Him, even Gentiles like me can have hope of citizenship in God's kingdom.

As we rejoice in our new heritage in Christ, let us not forget where we are coming from. Let's not forget that we(our generation and bloodlines), were legally under slavery to very wicked dark powers of the world, and if we stop abiding in Christ, they would hastily seek to bring us back into their bondage and affliction.

Anyone who is in Christ is not inferior to any of God's creation in all of eternity. We have this privilege because of the sacrifice of Christ. Shouldn't he who has been forgiven much love much more?

Go into today asking the Lord to deliver you from the foolishness of forgetfulness.
"Lord, help me abide in you and be fruitful in every good work. Help me grow daily in the knowledge of God."

Luke 18:4-5 (KJV) And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5. yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

The widow in today’s passage had no help except the wicked judge who neither feared man nor God. Trying to ask a man such as this for help is almost a waste of time, but she asked anyway and kept asking until her help came.

This is the word of the Lord for someone reading today: “ask one more time, do not give up”.

“Keep on asking and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened” Matthew 7:7 (NLT). If a wicked judge will give justice to a poor widow; God who is gracious and Just will certainly give what you ask for if you keep on asking. “If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him” Matthew 7:11 (NLT).

Continue to ask, do not give up on yourself; God has not given up on you.

Go into today encouraged, strengthened, and full of hope; don’t stop asking until your joy is full. God will answer you if you will not give up now.

Proverbs 16:1, 3 (KJV) The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord. Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established.

Bola and Jennet were friends from their childhood; they grew up and did almost everything together. They had similar dreams and visions since they grew up together, but it was observed that Jennet achieved much more success. When Bola asked Jannet for the secret of her great success, she found out that Jennet was much more committed and dependent on the Lord. Janet would always tell her plans to God first and do only what God leads her to do. For instance, she once turned down a high paying job because she was not led to take it.

It is good to have good plans and even confess them. But the establishment of such plans and confessions are only guaranteed when we commit them to the Lord. When we commit our plans to the Lord, He usually responds by giving us counsel.

When we seek and follow God’s counsel, we will labor less and achieve more because God himself would watch over our work. (See Jeremiah 1:12).

Go into today committing every single plan you have to God; ask His counsel and make up your mind to follow His leading. May grace for obedience be supplied to you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:21-23 (NET) So then, no more boasting about mere mortals! For everything belongs to you, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. Everything belongs to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.

When Apostle Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, the church in Corinth was divided. Some said Paul was their apostle, others said Apollos was their apostle, and some others said Cephas was their apostle. Because of this, there were divisions among them. Paul made it clear to them that these divisions were simply a sign of spiritual immaturity (see 1 Cor 3:3-4).

Today, there are many denominations in the global Church, and each having their teachers, apostles, etc. There is nothing wrong with denominations as long as the people realize that the church is one, and all things, including ministers of God outside their denomination, belong to them.

God never planned for his saints to receive from only one kind of ministry gift (see Eph 4:11-12), but that is exactly what happens to believers who continually limit themselves to one minister of God. Such believers would not grow to their full capacity because they lack "spiritual balanced diet".

If a minister is going to be truthful and humble, at certain points he would have to admit that there are certain kinds of graces that he has not been given. Even the great apostle Paul knew that he didn't have grace for apostleship to the Jews--that was Peter's department (see Gal 2:8, Rom 11:13). Churches established by Paul received from the ministry of Peter, John, James, and even Jude. That was the culture of the church.

Go into today remembering that all true ministers of God belong to you and you should be blessed by their unique grace if you belong to Christ. Do not limit yourself by being closed-hearted.

After experiencing the dark side of life for many years, Lamide was now humbled and open to accept the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Someone preached to her and she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Because Lamide understood what it meant to accept Christ as her Lord, she left the house of her boyfriend and rented her own apartment. She repented of all her old foolish ways and became consecrated to the Lord. As she grew spiritually, she understood that because Christ was now her Lord, all things that belong to Christ are under her authority. When she prayed, she prayed with this mindset, and she saw the results of her prayers. The evil spell of her enemy was destroyed and she was now free to walk in her glorious destiny.

Many times, believers are not powerful because they do not realize that they belong to Christ and all things are under their control because of the authority of Christ they have through submission to Him. Even the devil (the prince of this world) flees when believers who submit to the authority of Christ resist him (see James 4:7). A believer who lives in disobedience to Christ cannot command Christ’s authority because he is not submitted to that authority.

Go into today remembering that you belong to Christ and because of this, all things [that belong to Christ] belong to you. Ask the Lord to teach you to walk in this reality.

Wisdom From Above 2

1 Corinthians 3:20 (NET) And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

Lamide graduated with first-class as the best graduating student in her university. She accomplished this through diligence and wisdom. From her first week on campus, she determined what she wanted and started working towards it.

By the time she graduated, she was already an expert at accomplishing her set goals. She was not easily distracted and knew how to get what she wanted. But she did not know God and despised the idea of being a 'born again'.

All her wisdom proved futile when she started dealing with enmity from the immortal realm. Her stepmother hated her more when she heard of Lamide's success in school. She somehow believed that Lamide’s success was shielding her children from succeeding. She paid a sorcerer to cast an evil spell on Lamide. The spell worked, and with time, Lamide’s life was in disarray. She stopped making progress, made some very bad choices in life, and ended up a very unhappy person. Lamide's wisdom could not help her because her problems were spiritually orchestrated.

Anyone who only depends on human wisdom will find himself disadvantaged if he has to confront people who have just a little spiritual upper hand. But anyone who has the wisdom from above can never be disadvantaged in any situation. In all things, God works for their good (see Rom 8:28). Wisdom from above is only available to those who are in God’s kingdom. (see John 3:3).

As you go into today, go for the wisdom that has relevance both in time and eternity.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to give you His kind of wisdom. (James 1:5)
