Inside Out

Luke 10:27 (KJV) And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself
Amanda was in love. It was quite obvious to everyone around her. There were long calls on hushed tones inundated with intermittent delightful giggles, the many weekend trips, and the love-emoji-laden chat always executed with a wide smile garnished with pink blushes. Amanda was in love.

In due course, Amanda informed her youth pastor of her relationship with Kelvin, and the following conversation ensued.

Youth Pastor: So, Amanda, tell me about Kelvin.

Amanda: Oh Pastor Joe, Kelvin is such a sweet soul. He is caring, treats me with respect, is so in tune with my needs, loves and supports my dreams. He is just the loveliest person I have ever met.

Youth Pastor: Oh, that’s nice. Anything else?

Amanda: Yeah. We hail from the same locality; he works in a tech company as a software developer and we hope to tie the knot soonest. Yeah, that’s about it.

Youth Pastor: Well, you omitted the part about his faith and why you think he is God’s will for you.

Amanda: Yeah, about that, he is erm, a Christian. He might not look like it, but he loves the Lord and has a good heart. Afterall, it is what is inside that matters right?

You must have heard it said before that God looks at the heart, and certain persons person have taken it a notch higher to add that ‘it is what is in the heart that matters’, and by that they usually make an appeal that evaluations should not be made based on what is visible and obvious but rather it should be based on the claims of what is in the heart.

If today’s text is anything to go by, (and it is), then we must know that love for God is not only restricted to the heart. It flows from the inside out. Recognize that this love must be in the heart, possess the soul, manifest in actions (with all your strength), and occupy and transform the mind.

A person who thinks like the world does, does not love the Lord as he ought, or does not love Him at all. A supposed lover of God who spends his strength in the course of his own satisfaction and gratification is one whose love is suspect at best, or maybe he’s just a lover of himself (See 2 Tim 3:2).
All four aspects must be present in increasing measures. The love will flow from the heart, possess the soul, manifest in actions and occupy/transform the mind. If you love the Lord in your heart, you will act like it, your will and emotions will line up with it, and your worldview will be shaped by it; it will flow from inside out.

Go into today allowing the love of God to flow unhindered from the inside out.
