1 Corinthians 3:21-23 (NET)So then, no more boasting about mere mortals! For everything belongs to you, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. Everything belongs to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
After experiencing the dark side of life for many years, Lamide was now humbled and open to accepting the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Someone preached to her and she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Because Lamide understood what it meant to accept Christ as her Lord, she left the house of her boyfriend and rented her own apartment. She repented of all her old foolish ways and became consecrated to the Lord. As she grew, she understood that because Christ was now her Lord, all things that belong to Christ are under her authority. When she prayed, she prayed with this mindset, and she saw the results of her prayers. The evil spell of her enemy was destroyed and she was now free to walk in her glorious destiny.

Many times, believers are not powerful because they do not realize that they belong to Christ and all things are under their control because of the authority of Christ they have through submission to Him. Even the devil (the prince of this world) flees when believers who submit to the authority of Christ resist him (see James 4:7). A believer who lives in disobedience to Christ cannot command Christ’s authority because he is not submitted to that authority.

Go into today remembering that you belong to Christ and because of this, all things [that belong to Christ] belong to you. Ask the Lord to teach you to walk in this reality.

Exodus 8:1 (KJV) ‘‘And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me''.
After spending about four hundred years in Egypt, the children of Israel began to cry to God for freedom because their pains and sufferings were excruciatingly unbearable under the taskmasters of Egypt. God heard their cry and came down to deliver them (Exodus 3:7-8), but He needed a reason for which their deliverance will be justifiable and the reason He found was this: “that they may serve me”.

The most justifiable reason why you should be free is so you can serve God. So if you will not serve Him, you are rejecting freedom. Many, after receiving Christ, are victims of oppression because they have not yet been given to the service of God; they have refused God access to certain aspects of their lives, thus giving the devil advantage to oppress them in those areas.

The cheapest route to deliverance is getting lost in service to God. Exodus 23:22 (KJV) says ‘‘But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries''. But how will this happen? It is by loving and serving God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 11:13).

Exodus 19:5-6 (KJV) reads, ‘‘Now therefore if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation’’

Exodus 23:25-26 (KJV) ‘‘And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill''.

Go into today knowing that freedom will come when you totally release that area of your life under contention to God in service.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to serve you with my all. And as I serve you, I receive all-round freedom. Amen!

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NET)For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”

As a wise man according to the system of this world, Agu was very good at hustling and grabbing to get. And he thought this same method would advance him in the kingdom of God as it advanced him in the world, but he was sorely wrong. For example, during Holy Communion in church, because he was the head usher, he would insist on taking the leftover bread and wine home because he believed in the power of the communion. There was nothing wrong with this in itself, only that even at times when some people in the church could not get Holy communion because more people attended the service than expected, Agu would still take some ‘leftover’ bread and wine home. Such were his ways even in the church. But after some time, he realized that this kind of wisdom was not helping him advance in spiritual stature, and that(spiritual stature) was what he wanted.

There are many things done in the world that many have introduced into their kingdom life, but unknown to them, it is nothing but foolishness in the sight of God.

The wisdom of this world is selfish, mean, self-centered, crafty, wicked, deceptive, proud, and ruthless. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (see James 3:17).

It may not look so at the onset, but even in this world, the wisdom that comes from above is better than the wisdom of this world. It yields better fruits because God is still the owner and ruler of heaven and earth. This wisdom links His children with riches that don’t come with sorrows (Prov 10:22).

Avoid Walking in the Flesh

Romans 8:12-13 (NET) So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh (for if you live according to the flesh, you will die), but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.
There is the sad but true story of a pastor's wife who became adulterous and rebellious. With time she denied the faith and became an atheist. This happened because as she continued to unrepentantly walk in the flesh, she died spiritually.

When a believer continuously walks in the flesh (by committing sinful acts) in open rebellion, that believer is committing sin leading unto [spiritual] death. We are instructed in 1 John 5:16 not to even waste our prayers on such believers.

Some argue that those who have denied the faith did so because they were never really truly saved in the first place, but there is no scripture to back that assertion, only sentiments. But there are scriptures that clearly say people fall away(Hebrews 10:39, 6:4-6), deny the faith(1 Timothy 5:8), have a shipwreck of the faith(1 Timothy 1:19), and die spiritually (Romans 8:13, Revelation 3:1-2), etc. We can learn from today's Bible verse that the reason for this is continuing to walk in the flesh. Walking in the flesh leads to spiritual death.

Faith in God is a most precious treasure (see 1Peter 1:7), one that we should fight to keep (see 1 Timothy 6:12). But one can lose this priceless treasure if by walking unrepentantly in the flesh, he continues to violate his conscience. Faith is spiritual and the sensor of the human spirit is the conscience. A ship with damaged sensors would have a shipwreck.

When you see someone who was once a believer getting to a point where he denies the faith, it usually is because he died spiritually due to walking in the flesh and continuous violation of his conscience (see 1 Timothy 1:19).
One of the biggest dangers of doctrines that make believers comfortable in their sins (while invoking 'grace' and refusing to repent) is that some of such believers can come to a point of denying the faith because they have walked in the flesh unrepentantly for so long to the point of spiritual death.

Sin is antithetical to faith, and the devil understands this too well. He understands that if he can get believers to walk in the flesh long enough without repenting, Sin will gradually erode their faith until a time comes when they longer have the ability to believe in God. This is one of the scariest things that can ever happen but it is happening all the time, and the scriptures predict that it will happen on a large scale as a sign leading to the revelation of the antichrist (see 2 Thessalonians 2:3).

Go into today remembering that willful and unrepentant sinning is an act of unbelief towards God. Continuing in such a circle can bring a believer to the point where he no longer has the ability to believe in God.

Prayer: Lord, help me to maintain a clear conscience before you and before all men. Deliver me from every sin, in Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:17 (NET)If someone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, which is what you are.

Pastor Gbade’s joy was not full because he had godless and unruly children. He kept wondering why God did not save his children and do the one thing he wanted the most in life. He decided to take time again to seek the face of the Lord concerning this matter. After praying for three days and crying to the Lord concerning his godless children, the Lord told him that "He that destroys my temple I will destroy".

Immediately, he understood that the problem was because of the deceitful way he had handled the word of God all these years. Unlike Apostle Paul, he couldn't say "we have not handled the word of God deceitfully"(1 Cor 4:2). He had taught things and done things he knew were wrong just because they would bring in more money.

Notice that just before Apostle Paul wrote today's Bible verse, he wrote about those whose work (as ministers among the Corinthians) will be found to be wanting will suffer loss on judgment day. He is now giving the real reason why this can happen.

You see, it is a big deal to God for His children to suffer loss. But this can happen if these children are found to have destroyed His temple rather than build it. Those whose works will burn up on judgment day were not really builders, they are destroyers disguised as builders.

When a minister gathers people and refuses to feed them with the sincere milk [and meat] of God's word, but rather feeds them with adulterated and tainted milk, such a minister is a destroyer of God's temple rather than a builder. That is why such will suffer loss on judgment day and only be saved as though through the fire.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you build accurately so that you would receive a reward and not relegation.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
Franca was facing a lot of attacks that made her weary and almost paranoid. She knew that the enemy of her soul was out to destroy her, but she did not seem to have enough strength to resist the assault against her soul.

One day, as she was reading the Bible, she saw that she had marked 1 Cor 3:16, so she read it again and again. After reading it about seven times, it dawned on her that no one could destroy her because she was the temple of the Lord. This was the word from the Lord that gave her victory over that battle.

You see, God does not play with the temple that He dwells in. Anyone who attempts to destroy His temple will be inviting a battle from God Himself. No one can stand this.

It is important for you to know who God has made you and know the things that have been freely given to you. This is one of the reasons the Holy Spirit was given to you. He facilitates this kind of knowledge (see 1 Corinthians 2:12). This Knowledge activates faith, and it is through faith that we take possession of what we have been given by the Lord.

Go into today remembering that you are the temple of the living God. You are precious in God's sight, and because of this, no one can destroy you (whether man or demon): No one can destroy your finances, your marriage, your career, your health, your business, etc.

Prayer: thank you Lord for making me your temple. I ask for Strength to keep your temple holy. Amen.

Addiction, what is it?

Proverbs 25:28 (ESV), “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls".

Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines addiction as, “a compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behavior, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects and typically causing well-defined symptoms (such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea) upon withdrawal or abstinence". But, what can we glean from the scriptures about addiction?

“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls". Proverbs 25:28 ESV. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life". Proverbs 4:23 ESV

Gleaning from the quoted scriptures, addiction is obviously a product of a lack of self-control consequent upon an unguarded heart or lack of vigilance. Simply put, to be addicted is to be enslaved by one's appetite.

Should a child of God be addicted? No. Are there children of God who are addicted? Oh, Yes! Is being addicted a hopeless case? No, it isn't.

Jesus in Matthew 13:24-25 (KJV), put forth a parable saying, “The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way."

You see, you're not weak because you were ordained to be weak, you're weak because you lost control of your strength; you slept.

Are you addicted and desire freedom? Wake up from your sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you (Ephesians 5:14). Remember that Christ is in you and He is greater than addictions.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, shine your light on my darkness.

1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (NKJV)If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Some have said that as long as they escape hellfire, they are fine, they do not need any reward. Some have even quoted the psalmist by saying they would rather be a doorkeeper in God's house than dwell in the tents of wickedness. They fail to realize that in this, the psalmist was talking about service in God's house (Doorkeepers are servants) -- service for which an eternal reward would be due.

Anyone who tries to downplay the reality of service and reward in the kingdom of God does this because he does not understand the kingdom. Many times Jesus taught about the kingdom of God, He taught about service and reward in the kingdom (Matt 5:12, Luke 19:11-27, Matt 25:14-30, etc).

Somebody once argued that seeing the kingdom of God was the same thing as inheriting the kingdom of God. I simply asked if the word 'see' and 'inherit' meant the same thing.

On the day we [believers] stand before the Lord to give an account of our stewardship here on earth, some will receive rewards while others will suffer loss.

Some will sit with the Lord on thrones and rule the universe with Him forever, but others will not have that privilege. They will suffer loss because even though it was their destiny as sons of God to inherit the kingdom of God [as joint-heirs with Christ], their work has disqualified them from their inheritance and thrones. They would be saved but would have lost their inheritance through the fire of judgment.

Go into today remembering that how we spend our relatively short time here would determine how we would spend the rest of eternity.

1 John 3:10 (NET) By this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness – the one who does not love his fellow Christian – is not of God.

Jane was 17 years old, innocent, and naive when she got into campus. She was very trusting and quite carefree. Bernard, her classmate who invited her to join his campus fellowship also wanted to be her boyfriend. He was much older than her and she wasn't comfortable with his request because she wasn't sure the relationship wouldn't end up in immorality. She was brought up to keep herself pure.

It was June 13th and Bernard's birthday was approaching. He threw a big birthday party and Jane was his special invited guest. Freda had agreed to join Jane to attend the party, but she saw the party flyer on Facebook and decided such a party was not appropriate for a daughter of God. Jane was offended at the last-minute cancellation by Freda and wasn't ready to listen to her explanation. She went with Memunat instead (her other roommate who was more than happy to join her).

Unknown to Jane and Memunat, Bernard and his friends had drugged the food and drinks they were served at the party. In a matter of minutes, Jane and Memunat were drowsy and lost control of their faculties. Bernard and his friends took advantage of this and molested them. Jane woke up in Bernard's bathroom by 3:30 am the next morning. She wept for days, realizing what had been done to her. Memunat was more experienced with that kind of life. She found her way to the hostel after realizing what was happening.

Two months later, Jane found out that she was pregnant. She didn't know the father of the baby because she was raped by Bernard and all his friends. She also later found out that she had contracted HIV. The once innocent, brilliant, and cheerful Jane became a depressed suicidal maniac because she trusted a classmate who professed to be a believer, but who didn't demonstrate any corresponding fruit.

Bernard was a very committed tongue-speaking member of a popular campus fellowship. But he was also living a life of unrighteousness. All his friends were "Yahoo Boys" and cultists– he did not love the brethren but loved [to keep company] with unbelievers. He was not a child of God but Jane was deceived to think he was one because he spoke in tongues.

Go into today remembering that the way to know a true child of God is by his fruits of righteousness. Don't be deceived, a good tree does not produce bad fruits.

John 8:31-32 (ESV), “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.
For many years the children of Israel were in bondage, after several years of crying and praying to God, he showed up for them, broke their bonds, and brought them out of Egypt. Sadly, only two out of about six hundred thousand men who left Egypt entered the promised Land. Why couldn't they enter the promised land, having been delivered by such a mighty display of God's power?

Many, like the children of Israel, encountered God's saving power in certain dramatic ways and were set on a course; the journey of salvation, but are now weak, beggarly, and defeated. The power they once encountered seems incapable to carry them through, why is this so?

Deliverance is instantaneous, a one-time show of force by a greater power over the lesser; the demon leaves at a command, the yoke is broken by the power of God and the Spirit of God comes, all of which can happen within a second. Freedom however is not instantaneous, it is produced consequent upon continuity, requiring long-term participation of the delivered, he must exert effort and cultivate a load of virtues such as obedience, patience, endurance, faith, discipline, etc.

Jesus in our text, said to the Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. You see, freedom comes from knowing the truth, and knowing the truth requires that you abide or continue with Jesus, the one who brought about your deliverance.

Do you desire lasting deliverance? Do you want to be free? If you do, you will make all efforts to continue (keep obeying) in the word (instructions) of God.

Go into today knowing that, If you relax after being delivered, you will soon get entangled.

Prayer: Father, let your spirit keep working in me, to will and to do according to your good pleasure in Jesus' name, amen!

Romans 8:1-2 (KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Until the 13th century, our Bible was not divided into chapters and verses because the scriptures were not written that way. Archbishop Stephen Langton and Cardinal Hugo de Sancto Caro developed different schemas for a systematic division of the Bible in the early 13th century. It is the system of Archbishop Langton that formed the framework on which the modern chapter divisions are based. The first Bible in English to use both chapters and verses was the Geneva Bible published in the year 1560. Till today, the best way to study scripture is not by isolating verses and reading them alone, it is by reading entire sections of scripture to get the main message. I would suggest that in order for a believer to properly understand Romans 8:1, he at least reads Romans 8:1-13 so he can get the thought of Romans 8:1 in the right context.

Have you seen certain believers walking in rebellion and saying 'there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus?', it is because they have not read that verse in context, or they have suffered from exposure to false teachers who teach licentiousness. We can see from today's Bible verses that the reason there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus is that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death. A person still walking under the dominion and law of sin would still walk under condemnation, and that is an act of mercy because if a believer feels no condemnation concerning willful sin, he would soon become spiritually dead without knowing it (see Romans 8:13). Lepers lose their limbs because they first lose the ability to feel pain in their limbs. The ability to feel pain is a protective measure from more danger to the body. The conscience is a protective measure for the spirit of man.

The law of sin and death operates in the ambiance of perpetual condemnation, but the law of the spirit of life on in Christ Jesus operates in an ambiance of justification. In order for a believer to walk in the law of the spirit of life (which is the only law/power that can make him free from the dominion/law of sin and death), he must understand that in Christ, he has been justified before God and declared righteous. He has been washed white and clean and has been given a new slate. He is now expected to walk in the newness of mind in accordance with the new life he has received (see Ephesians 4:22-24).

Go into today remembering that in Christ, there is freedom from the law of sin and death because the law of the spirit of life is at work within us. If by any chance you dirty your garment, don't waste time getting it cleaned by repenting and forsaking that defiling sin. And then move on in justification--just as if you have never sinned.

Prayer: Lord, help me walk above the condemnation of the flesh and live a life ruled by the Spirit, In Jesus' name, Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NET) According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.
As Ebele grew in the knowledge of the Lord, he realized that he also grew in grace. He also realized that the Lord opened greater doors for him to do greater things. But because he had learned his lesson, he was careful not to get involved in things that he wasn’t sure the Lord was leading him to do. This training and carefulness kept him from many distractions that the devil sent his way to weary him.

The devil does not usually distract Good people with bad and evil things. He usually distracts Good them with good and noble things, but these things are not what they have received grace to do. He does this because he knows that no matter how good your intentions are, and no matter how noble they are, if it is kingdom work, you would only be wasting your time if you start building without first receiving a pattern from the Lord. Your hard work and labor will not amount to much and would not be a great threat to the kingdom of darkness if the work you are doing was not ordained by the Lord for you to do.

Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles, but it was not every gentile nation that the Lord was leading Him to.

Go into today remembering that grace always flows in the direction of God’s will. When a person gives himself an assignment because of sheer passion without heavenly sanction, he would have to continue in his strength. This is why there are many fallen soldiers.

Prayer: ask the Lord to deliver you from distractions and help you always walk in His will.

James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Praise was so full of joy that it radiated out. His countenance was lighted up and his mood changed to a very cheerful one. He continued in this state for days, and even his neighbors noticed. ‘‘What has changed? Praise is now different?’’ One of his neighbors responded, ‘‘Praise has just received Jesus as his savior, and what you are seeing him display is the joy of salvation''.

But time passed, and unfortunately, Praise went back to doing some of the evil things he forsook, and the joy left. He became hot-tempered and unfriendly again. Because he wanted the joy and peace back, he would not miss any Church service, would do every assignment committed to him in Church the best way he could, prayed and fasted, but all these did not result in him being joyful. What really went wrong?

God’s commandment to every child is ‘obey’ (Ephesians 6:1) and the same applies to every newly born again child of God. After salvation, God expects that every child of His grows to the point where they can willfully submit to him because it is at this point that a man becomes useful to him and this is God’s ultimate aim: learning to obey God is the only route to this.

Obedience is what brings us to the point where we can willingly submit to God. This you will achieve after a very long period of obedience. Sadly, only very few ever get to this level in God. We were dead because of sin and our nature was that of the devil. This nature was taken away at salvation, but the corruption in our minds remains. The way God chose to deal with this corruption is by giving us commandments that must be obeyed.z

The compendium of these commandments is what is referred to as the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. After steady and consistent obedience to these commandments, our minds are being renewed by the life that the law of life gives. At the height of this renewal, we gain the ability to now use our will to choose what God wants(our desires become His desires).

It is after this that we can submit or offer ourselves to God and this enables us to resist the devil. If you noticed that you often fall into temptations, it could be that you have not been faithful in obeying God.

Go into today knowing that it is by obeying God that you gain the ability to submit to God and resist the devil.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to empower you with grace to obey him.

Psalms 23:6 (KJV) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Gbemi observed that he was not walking in many of the promises of God. He saw that he was not walking in divine health and there were many other areas of his life where the promises of God were not yet his reality.

When this came to his notice, he started wondering and asking why this was the case with him. It didn't take him long to see that the reason was that he lived daily with a guilty conscience. He worked in a clinic that made most of its profit from performing illegal abortions.

Today's Bible verse begins with the word ‘surely’. If you read Psalm 91:33, you will see that word used again. It says 'Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler…'

One reason Christians may not walk in the promises of God is that many are not sure that they are qualified for them. Instead of saying 'surely' many say 'probably', or 'maybe'. They think about their imperfections and conclude that they cannot walk in the promises. But remember that God’s promises are Yea and Amen in Christ Jesus and not in you (2 Cor 1:20). This means that we can walk in God's promises because of Christ Jesus, not because of us. It is by faith in Christ (not by faith in our own works) that we receive God's promise of salvation. It is by that same faith in Christ that we receive every other promise.

Go into today remembering that you have the power to walk above anything causing a guilty conscience.

Job 36:11-12 (KJV) “If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge."

The Lord had brought Israel out of slavery by a strong and mighty hand, they had seen God's wonders in Egypt and at the red sea and were journeying through the wilderness to possess the land God promised to them for an inheritance; a land flowing with milk and honey.

All the while, their part had been to simply obey God's instructions. At the Passover, when God slew all the firstborns in Egypt, they were spared by simply obeying. They plundered Egypt and went away with great spoil by obeying God and when confronted with crossing the red sea; a feat humanly impossible, they crossed over by simply obeying.

Then at Horeb, the Lord said to them, “Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates. Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them." (Deuteronomy 1:7-8 KJV). This time around, they didn't obey, they chose to send spies to the land and complain. The result was forty years of wandering in the wilderness and ultimately, the death of everyone involved in that disobedience (Numbers 14:32-34).

Just the way the Israelites prospered when they obeyed, you also will prosper when you obey. But, when you choose to be wise in your own eyes by adding or taking away from God's instructions and commandments, you stand the chance of wandering in the wilderness of life.

Go into today knowing that, all God requires from you is obedience. Be strong and very courageous, be careful to obey God's instructions; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go (Joshua 1:7).

Prayer: Ask the Lord for the spirit of obedience.

Romans 7:5 (KJV) For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

The law operates within the domain of the mind and all this is ruled by the knowledge of Good and evil. So even though in the old creation, a man under the law of God is far better than a man ruled by his flesh and native impulses or any other human code. When the new creation came, it became an aberration for people to still cling to a life ruled by the law when they can live lives ruled by the Spirit [of life].

Because we are still in a body of flesh, an understanding of the law would be a guide to help us know what the Spirit would never lead us to do, but our hope of salvation should never be based on our ability to keep certain rules and regulations, but based on our relationship with the Spirit of the living God. The earnest/guarantee of our salvation is the Holy Spirit, not the law (see Ephesians 1:14).

Those who subscribed to the law only found their minds trained to be more sophisticated and refined in their approach to sin. Because of the flesh, the law did not have the power to kill sin in our hearts so it only helped to make it such that even though we are sinners we would be feeling self-righteous because we have convinced ourselves that we have not broken God's law.

Go into today remembering that the biggest hindrance to a life of grace is dependence on our ability to keep God's laws as the basis of our justification.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live in the Spirit and bring forth fruits unto God (Romans 7:4).

Psalms 91:7 (NKJV)A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.

When the economic recession in Nigeria started, Nnamdi was afraid that he was going to be greatly affected by it because of the nature of his business. He remembered the word of God in today's Bible verse and decided that he would believe it and live in that reality. One thing he made up his mind he was never going to do was to complain about the bad economy like everybody else did. He would say 'it is a good economy for me, it is not bad'. That was exactly what he experienced.

When some of his major clients defaulted on payments because they could no longer afford to pay, Nnamdi insisted that he was not going down with the economy. Because of his faith and resolve, the Lord gave him the wisdom to become even more profitable than he had ever been. He became wealthier even in the recession.

What you believe and say about yourself is very important. The power of life and death is in the tongue (Prov 18:21). Your mouth confesses what your heart believes. And your heart will come to believe what you often say with your mouth.

The promise of God in today's Bible verse has been freely given to you in Christ. You must activate it by faith and expect to see it manifest in your life.

Go into today remembering that you are not ordinary. You are the apple of God's eye (Zech 2:8). Even if thousands around you are falling, it will not come near you.

Confession: Evil shall not come near me. I am not a victim but a victor in life. I am a winner in life and my light shines. Hallelujah!

Predestined for Good Works

Ephesians 2:10 (AMPC) For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

It wasn’t until Clement accepted the Lord Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit that he knew his purpose for living, had a vision for life and was now living a purpose-driven, purpose-filled life. Before this, he only lived for pleasure, and his life was empty and purposeless. In order to satisfy the emptiness of his soul and fulfill his insatiable hunger for pleasure, he was driven into drug addiction. But his mother never stopped praying for him, and his life was transformed when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.

One of the things the infilling of the Holy Spirit does to the well-taught believer is that it would give him a vision for his life.

If you study the Bible properly on the topic of predestination, you would notice that this is usually a discussion reserved for the believer in Christ(see Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:28-30). Most other applications would be contradictory to clear positions of scripture concerning the will of God(1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9, Ezekiel 33:11). God’s predestination does not apply to those who are not yet in His house, His only plan for the sinner is reconciliation and life. From God's point of view, sinners are dead(Colossians 2:13, Ephesians 2:1, 1 John 3:14, Genesis 2:17). They are not alive, and no one makes plans for people who are dead. Only those recreated in Christ Jesus have the capacity to walk in God’s predefined plans [that are more eternal in expression than time-based].

In today's Bible verse, we can see that we who are in Christ have been predestined unto good works. Everything you would ever become has already been planned for and arranged by God. The more you align with God's will, the more you will find that you're walking in the fullness of His good plans for you.

Go into remembering that everything about the good life God has for you in Christ Jesus has already been adequately planned and fully paid for (2 Peter 1:3). All you need to do is receive it by faith with continual thanksgiving.

Prayer: Father, help me walk in faith and thanksgiving. Deliver me from all my fears. In Jesus' name. Amen.

1 John 3:10 (NET)  By this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness – the one who does not love his fellow Christian – is not of God.

Freda and Jane were close friends. They were both 17 when they got into campus. They were both innocent, adventurous, and naive. Freda joined a campus fellowship that was very sound and that had a strong Bible Study emphasis. She joined this fellowship because Shade, her roommate who lived an exemplary Christian life, invited her. But Benard, one of her classmates, invited both her and Jane to join his campus fellowship. This fellowship was more "hip" and "trending". She hesitated because this same boy was known to be a cheat during tests and exams. Unlike Freda, Jane didn't mind that Bernard's conduct left much to be desired. She honored his invitation and started attending his fellowship. According to her, "their music is way better". Little did Jane know that she was walking into a trap.

Freda was able to keep herself from corruption on that campus because she understood a basic truth that many believers have failed to understand and gotten into needless trouble. Freda understood that anyone who claimed to be a child of God, but who was walking in visible unrighteousness, was not to be trusted as a child of God.

If someone claims to be a Child of God, but you have noticed that, for example, she tells lies quite easily and normally, you will find out through much more serious things that she is not a child of God when you make the mistake of committing yourself to her in the belief that she is a child of God.

Go into today remembering the wisdom in today's Bible verses. Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, [no matter how much Christianise they speak, or how long they have served in the church]. Know this truth and know peace.

James 4:7 (YLT)Be subject, then, to God; stand up against the devil, and he will flee from you

When Clara became born again, she did not realize that accepting Christ as Lord meant she was to be subject to the government of God. She was still the ruler of her life. Because of this, she did not have spiritual power and authority. She would attempt to cast out demons, but they would not answer and the situation would remain the same. She knew this because she was still tormented by demons in her sleep.

She realized one day through the study of the word that she was not truly subject to the lordship of Christ. Her life was not regulated by the Spirit of Christ and she knew it. She repented of this and started to live her life according to God's word. It wasn't easy at first, but she found that as she became more and more subject to the authority of Christ, she could wield more and more spiritual power. A time came that even the weather would respond to her prayer. She also observed that the demons that tormented her were just no longer there.

Many Christians do not walk in their spiritual authority because they do not live under the authority of Christ. The degree to which you are submitted to the authority of Christ is the degree to which you will also use spiritual authority. Christ rules your life by His Word and by His Spirit. If there is anything in your life that is contrary to His word, it is a sign that your life is not fully submitted to His authority.

Go into today remembering that it is God's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. This means God wants you to have access to the authority and power in His kingdom.
Ask the Lord to help you totally submit to His authority and walk in it too.

1 John 3:2-3 (NET) Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. And everyone who has this hope focused on him purifies himself, just as Jesus is pure).

When I was a child, I heard a great deal about the second coming of the Lord Jesus. Christians used to ask themselves questions like this "are you ready for the coming of the Lord?". Because of this consciousness, unlike today, there was a real difference between believers and unbelievers. There were many true conversions to the faith because, even though the world didn't like us, our light was shining and many(including several Muslims) were being convicted and saved. But something happened along the way, and doctrines that downplayed the coming of the Lord and emphasized more on material prosperity became mainstream among Christians. The results of that distortion are evident before our eyes today. Purity and holiness are almost dirty words in many Christian communities today.

From today's Bible verses, we can see that our hope focused on the coming of the Lord is a motivation for staying pure. If you take away the Blessed Hope of the believer, you have taken away his power and motivation to be holy. Most scriptures that admonish us to live pure and holy lives do so within the context of the expectation of the Lord's coming. Here is another example (the first being today's Bible Text):

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NET) Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, read Titus 2:11-13.

Go into today remembering that the coming of the Lord is the blessed hope of the believer. Words are too weak to express the glory that would be revealed in us when the Lord appears.

One of my brothers was describing something another supposed Christian brother did. This supposed Christian brother's conduct was so wicked and selfish that my brother said if people with this kind of character enter heaven, they will spoil heaven. What he said sounded funny but it sent me into deep thinking and meditation on the scriptures.

Hitherto, I had been learning that the Lord Jesus came to prepare for himself a church that would be cleansed of all impurity and able to inherit His kingdom(Ephesians 5:27, Rev 19:8). I had also been learning that the purification and transformation of our souls happen through the renewing of our minds by the word of God (Romans 12:2). Would our souls be transformed during the resurrection? Would the resurrection affect the state of our hearts or simply change our bodies?

Child of God, one of the most significant privileges we have right now is the opportunity to allow the Holy Spirit and the word of God to purify us and change us into the fullness of the stature of Christ. The more like Christ we become, the closer we will be with Him in His eternal kingdom. Remember, even though all the saints will be in His kingdom, not everyone will be at the same level. In every kingdom, there are those that sit in the same room with the king to rule with him because of their high level of influence, and there are those that may not get to see the face of the king in months because they occupy lower positions in the kingdom. Our Lord Jesus talks about those who would be called great in the kingdom and those who would be least in the kingdom (see Matthew 5:19). Whether you will be great or least in the kingdom is determined by your commitment to sanctification.

Go into today remembering that the process of purifying ourselves makes us more like Christ [in character and nature]. If the resurrection will automatically do this, we would not be admonished to do this in anticipation of the resurrection(see John 2:3, Titus 2:12-14, 1 Thessalonians 5:23).

John 8:31-32 (NET) Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Mr. Allen had some mutated dogs that could never grow from being puppies. They were mutated to remain puppies all their lives. But one day, the dogs started a diet that began to annul their mutation. Because of this, they began to steadily grow into adults. But while puppies, Mr. Allen tied each of them with seven strands of knitting wool. And they remained bound that way. But as they started to grow, one day, some of them realized that they could now break free by virtue of their size and increased strength.

The wool now seemed like a joke. All they had to do was to simply keep walking and the rope broke.
But there were many of them who were still afraid of the power of the threads because as puppies, they had tried to break free to no avail. They were actually now bound by the limitation of the past. And because of this, they remained in bondage even though they had enough might(strength) to break free.

The dogs that got freedom got it because they came to the knowledge of the truth. This truth was that they could now walk away free.

If you are a disciple of Christ who follows His teachings, this is the truth concerning you: you have grown out of the power of sin. Sin no longer has power over you because we are now under God’s grace. This grace teaches us the word of God and causes us to grow out of the smallness that made sin dominate us (see Titus 2:8-9).

Go into today with this truth.

Ephesians 5:15-16 (KJV) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Before Segun understood that his conduct was important if he was going to successfully engage in spiritual Warfare, he was a dishonest man whose life was plagued with suspicion and lack of love. His relationship with his wife left much to be desired. His neighbors didn't like him because he was very suspicious of them and behaved awkwardly around them.

But as he began to apply himself to God's word, he realized that he needed to walk circumspectly. Being circumspect means being careful to consider all possible consequences of one's words and/or actions. One of the major attributes of the wise is that they are circumspect. For Segun, one area he knew he needed to be more circumspect was with the use of his words, especially with his wife. As Segun made the appropriate adjustments in the way he spoke and the things he did, he realized that his spiritual authority grew. He observed that he was now no longer afraid of many things he used to fear.

Yesterday, we saw that one of Satan’s most potent weapons against believers is accusations. Witchcraft is a demonic craft that would be totally useless without accusations. As we live spirit-led lives (being circumspect and walking in love), we drain out every accusation the devil may have been using against us. As a result, when we resist the devil, he would have no choice but to flee (James 4:7).

Go into today remembering that all authority in heaven and on earth now belongs to Jesus. As you abide in Him and become more like Him, you will find that the devil has no authority or power over you and your sphere of influence.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to become more like Jesus every day. Amen.

Ephesians 6:10 (KJV) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Segun was a prayer warrior because he understood the wickedness of the wicked and how the power of God could put them in check. He was from a village known for its notorious witches. His stepmother was a witch and he knew the battles he had to fight in order for him to live a near-normal life.

But Segun was not totally free. He lived from battle to battle, struggling from one attack to another. No one prayed like him in the church, yet no one was afflicted like him. He used to tell himself that he had so many attacks and defeats because of his family background, but when he discovered that his pastor, who lived a free joyful life, was from a more wicked background than him, he started asking questions he should have been asking a long time ago.

Segun discovered that even though he exerted himself a lot in spiritual Warfare, he was low on spiritual authority and had few real victories because of his conduct. He was a suspicious, unloving, proud, and self-centered person. Because of this, the enemy had many potent accusations against him that weakened his spiritual battle formation.

Today's Bible verse begins with the word "finally". The subject of spiritual Warfare was the last one apostle Paul would share with the Ephesians. He shared it just after sharing about spiritual maturity and Christian conduct. A man whose conduct is questionable cannot triumph in spiritual Warfare. The devil is not so powerful against the believer who is mature and whose conduct is blameless. One of the devil's most potent weapons against the believer is accusations (see Rev 12:10-11).

The cleansing of the blood of Jesus and the transforming power of God's word is why the saints will overcome Satan (Rev 12:11). The word of God transforms us to become like Christ, thus making us spiritually mature. Any believer who doesn't give priority to the word of God may not attain the required level of spiritual maturity to successfully execute spiritual Warfare.

Go into today remembering that as you become more like Christ in nature [and character], you become spiritually invincible.
