2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NET) For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died. And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised.

Before Nathan became a disciple of the Lord Jesus, he used to lie, steal and cheat. He was not an honest man and he knew it. He had a terrible reputation even though he was a churchgoer. It wasn't that Nathan was not a believer, it was just that he did not abide in the Lord. He lived his life as though he was the owner of his life; he lived to please himself. This wasn't entirely his fault. He did not know any better. All the sermons he ever heard were centered on how to enrich his life and get more to please himself.

As Nathan began to listen to a different set of sermons, his life was now controlled by the love of God, and he now found that the power of God was present in his life to conquer the works of the flesh.

Many are controlled by the love of money and the love of self, and no matter how much they try, they would find that they are not able to walk in the power of God that gives them perpetual victory over the works of the flesh. He was no longer a slave to sin.

Those who are controlled by the love of God, who live to please God and not themselves, will have the power to walk above the works of the flesh.

Go into today remembering that the way to overcome the power of the flesh is to die to self and start living to please God. The way to love God is to live to please Him.

Manner of thinking

1 Corinthians 14:20 (NET) Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.

Aku grew up among some of the most cunning and dishonest people, so this made him very suspicious and untrusting. This affected his relationships with his friends even after he became a believer, and this even affected his relationship with his wife because he was too suspicious and untrusting.
As he became more spiritually mature, he understood that because he was in Christ, he was not the one taking care of himself but the Lord. He stopped being suspicious and untrusting. He realized that being that way had not really helped him in life. It alienated his friends and made it impossible for him to enjoy the peace of God. Even though he remained wise and observant, he stopped being a suspicious untrusting person because he now understood that his life was God's idea and his security God's responsibility.

In today's Bible verse, we see a very important guiding principle of thinking that every believer should imbibe. We are not to be children in our thinking, but when it comes to evil and malice, we are to be children. We can afford this because we are children of Almighty God.
There are revelations that God cannot reveal to believers who are too simple and childish in their thinking and reasoning. But there are depths of peace that cannot be reached by those who are too suspicious and untrusting.

God wants us to be advanced and critical in our reasoning because He wants to reason with us(see Isaiah 1:8). He doesn't want us to be simple thinkers who can be swayed by winds of highfalutin doctrines. One way to ensure we are not simpletons and childish in our reasoning is for us to have hearts that seek knowledge and understanding. “…with all thy getting get understanding” --Proverbs 4:7.

Read, ask questions, seek to know. The internet is not meant only for social media but can be used for wisdom and understanding imparting research.

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that seeks wisdom and understanding. Amen.

Pay attention to sound teaching

1 Timothy 4:16 (KJV) Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

As Linda grew in her walk with the Lord, she realized that the more of God's word she understood, the more it purified her, and the result was a closer walk with God. For example, Linda used to make promises without fulfilling them, and she didn't take her words very seriously. But as she continued to learn the word, she realized that she was not living in God's perfect will by being unfaithful with her words. As she adjusted and became more truthful, she found that the power of God could now be expressed through the words of her mouth.

One evening, she was sitting outside near the car porch when her sister drove in. Because of the excitement of seeing her, her sister forgot to engage the auxiliary brake before exiting the car. As soon as she came out of the car, the car started moving away and was heading toward a nearby wall with increasing speed because the place was sloppy. Linda simply said "I command you to stop", and instantly, the car stopped. This was one of the many examples of how God's power could now be expressed through Linda's words because her tongue was now sanctified.

In today's Bible verse, we see Apostle Paul telling Timothy that by continuing in the doctrine [of Christ], he would save himself and those who hear him. It was by continuing in The Doctrine that Linda's tongue was saved and was now made a vessel that could give expression to the power of God.

Any believer who does not pay attention to sound teaching will live a life that is not truly saved from the power and dominion of sin. After accepting Christ, It is by receiving the engrafted word that our souls are saved from the entanglements of old sins (see James 1:21).

Go into today remembering to pay attention to sound teaching.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you pay attention to sound teaching and lose appetite for any teaching that is not sound.

I Am Standing At the Door and Knocking

Broadcast 3588

Rev 3:20-22 (NET) Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. 21 I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

From when he was in the university, Ikenna knew that there was a call of God upon his life. He knew he would have to seek God for clearer specifics and details, but this never happened.

Immediately he finished from the university, he went for his country’s mandatory youth service corps for one year. During that period, he had several opportunities to seek the face of the Lord, but he spent all that time looking for opportunities for a 'better life'. He spent all his time applying for jobs and scholarships to various graduate programs on university campuses around the world, but he relegated God’s call on this life to the background. All the while, Jesus was still knocking.

By the time Ikenna was 49 years, he looked at his life and all his achievements, but he knew he had missed it concerning divine destiny. He had spent the best years of his life chasing money.

We see in today’s Bible text that the one who conquers will sit with Christ on His throne. Christ will rule the entire universe, and the one who conquers will rule and reign with Him on His throne.

Many Christians have been deceived to think that escaping hell and making heaven is the ultimate goal, they fail to realize that God did not just destine us to see the kingdom; He destined us to inherit the kingdom. Conquerors are not those who just escaped hell, they are those who conquered life for Christ: they are those who conquered territories for Christ and fulfilled their divine destiny.

Go into today remembering that any life not lived for the divine kingdom purpose would be judged to be a wasted life.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to live for you and not waste my life. Amen.

Witnessing Requires Power

Broadcast 3587
1 Corinthians 4:20 (KJV), “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power".
One of the last instructions Jesus gave His disciples after His resurrection was to wait for power. “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49 KJV). He promised to send the promise of the Father upon them, but did not send them to witness until they had received power.

As believers, we have the Holy Ghost, and as long as we remain in God, eternity with Christ is secured. However, there is a life to live right here and right now since we are not returning to God the same moment we received the Holy Ghost. Jesus said, "tarry until you be endued with power." In other words, don't rush out to witness for me just because the Holy Ghost has been poured upon you. You will have to wait for power to be added before you can become effective witnesses.

So in Acts 1:8, we read, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8 KJV). While we no longer tarry or wait for the Holy Ghost, we still have to tarry to be endued with power, and it is after this that we become effective witnesses.

Go into today knowing that what makes a witness according to Jesus is not receiving the Holy Ghost alone, but the Holy Ghost and power (Acts 10:38). Pray and ask the Lord Jesus to endue you with power to be an effective witness for Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I want to be your witness. Please endue me with power. Amen.

Repentance From Dead Works

Hebrews 6:1 (NET) Therefore we must progress beyond the elementary instructions about Christ and move on to maturity, not laying this foundation again: repentance from dead works and faith in God

Nosa wasn't sure he was accepted before God because he was told that God does not like tattoos and he had quite a few before he believed in the Lord Jesus. He was wrongly made to believe that God has not yet accepted him even though he had believed, but that he would have to labor to be accepted by the Lord.

Even though the people teaching him had noble intentions to teach him about sanctification and holiness, they ended up instilling in him the tendency to depend on dead works and not the works of Jesus Christ as the basis for his salvation.

By the time a believer begins to believe that his acceptance before God is based on anything apart from the works of Jesus, he needs to repent from dead works. As believers, we are to live holy and consecrated lives before God, but not as our basis for acceptance but because we have already been accepted.

The advantage of deeper consecration is better fellowship and intimacy, not relationship and acceptance. Only those who have new birth are called to the higher life of consecration so they can be prepared for the Lord's good use( see 2 Timothy 2:20-22).

Go into today remembering that a system that directly or indirectly engenders dead works cannot produce true holiness. The proof of true holiness is power with God born out of intimacy, not religious conformity born out of fear.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from all dead works and help me walk in the fullness of your plan for me.

2 Thessalonians 3:10(KJV) “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat"

Rollin's wife traveled for a long seminar. She however stocked their deep freezer with food before she left. There was a little challenge though; their freezer was small, and the piled-up food would not last for all the days that she will be away. So, she went to the market, bought raw foodstuff, and stocked the house with them.

Just as she predicted, the food in the freezer finished but Rollin would not cook. He visited his friends instead where he got some food but he was never satisfied. After doing this for some days, he resorted to cooking his own food. “Why roam around for food when I have my house filled with foodstuff? I will cook" he said to himself. It was after this decision that he again ate to satisfaction.

When a sinner surrenders to Jesus, the initial days are filled with joy, peace, zeal, and fervency. The love of God fills their heart, and they become lost in love for the Lord. However, a time will come when it seems as though all of God's goodness has been depleted. It is at this point that they need to work out their salvation, by following God's instructions and developing an intimate relationship with God. Without this, they risk being overpowered by the sins, habits, and vices they once overcame.

Unfortunately, many Christians begin to move from one man of God to another in search of prophecies, deliverance, impartations, and favor at this point. Meanwhile, God has already loaded them with benefits (Psalms 68:19), just like Rollin's wife loaded the house with foodstuffs. All they have to do is put in some work; cook and eat.

Go into today knowing that the best you will get from another man will not satisfy you if you're not willing to put in the work to know God for yourself. If you want satisfaction, “cook your own food" by learning to know God for yourself.

Be Eager For Spiritual Gifts

1 Corinthians 14:1 (NET) Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

Dara was disturbed that he did not have spiritual gifts like Deji his friend. He started asking the Lord why and really desiring to walk in spiritual gifts because his interaction with Deji had made him see how spiritual gifts engender fruitfulness in ministry.

As soon as Dara started becoming eager for spiritual gifts and asking the Lord for them, he realized that he too started walking in them.

His disposition towards spiritual gifts wasn't a healthy one before he met Deji. He was raised in a church that almost despised all spiritual gifts and didn't allow them in their services.

One thing I have noticed is that believers who despise spiritual gifts don't walk in them. In fact, believers who are not eager for them hardly have them, no matter how spiritual and holy they are.

I believe that one reason the Corinthian Church grew so fast was because they were not lacking in spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 1:7). Even though that church appeared to emphasize spiritual gifts much more than the fruits of the Spirit and Paul had to warn them that people who lived the way some of them were living would not inherit the kingdom of God (see 1 Corinthians 6:8-10), he still encouraged them to be eager for spiritual gifts.

Go into today remembering that those who walk in an abundance of spiritual gifts are those who are eager for them.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you receive and walk in your God-ordained gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:1 (NET)Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

I have had to deal with some brethren that behave in a way that inspires only hatred. But I have found that for me as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, hatred is not an option, but love is my only option. I have been commanded to love even my enemies(see Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:27), so misbehaving brethren should not be the issue. for us to walk in love, it must be pursued and not merely desired.

Pursue is an active word and it may involve doing things that are not convenient. Many times, if we do not pursue love, we will not love but become lukewarm and indifferent.

One way we pursue love is by doing things that inspire love. Giving sacrificially is a good example. Our choice of words can either kill love or inspire love.

We pursue love because we understand that walking in love with all men is the secret to appropriating our greatest spiritual power. A man who walks in faith has great power. But the man that walks in love is greater(see 1 Cor 13:2, 13).

Go into today remembering to pursue love. If love seems to have run away from your marriage, relationship with brethren, etc, don't give up. Ask the Lord for wisdom to do things that would inspire love. Ask for the grace to pursue love till it returns.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me walk more in love and favor with all men. Amen.

Ephesians 2:15 (AMP) By abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the enmity [caused by] the Law with its decrees and ordinances [which He annulled]; that He from the two might create in Himself one new man [one new quality of humanity out of the two], so making peace.

Emmanuel was enjoying his new job. He had moved into this city 18 months ago by the leading of God and had taken up employment in a Marketing Firm. He soon forged new bonds of friendship with some of his colleagues and one day, while they were returning from a marketing call Emmanuel turned to a teammate and friend and said:

“Rueben, can I ask you a personal question?”

“Yeah, shoot”

“Who is a Christian? And does it have any bearing on a person’s life beyond the walls and activities of the church?”

Rueben took a brief pause, closed his iPad, was still thinking on it when Emmanuel’s phone rang and he had to take the call.

How would you answer that question though? Who exactly is a Christian?

The Bible would make us understand that the Christian is not merely an individual who has become a member of a church and is a committed member of such a church keeping to all its guiding rules and regulations.

The truth is this; there was a corruption and a perversion of God’s man Adam which came about by sin, and man became defective. Beyond this, it is important to note that sin was a capital offense; this means that the punishment for sin is death (See Romans 5:12 and 6:23). All because all man sins, mankind was doomed to death, we were virtually on death row awaiting the execution of judgment.

Therefore Christ’s redeeming work was not merely a marketing exercise to increase church membership, but a critical fulfillment of the spiritual legal system to take upon himself man’s pending and deserving judgment of sin in order to set man free. But that is not all, because setting a criminal free without any true reformation and rehabilitation is just setting him up for a future return to jail.

So what God did is to offer a new life to everyone who will receive his offer of salvation, that is, anyone who will accept the pardon procured by Jesus through his death, will not only receive a pardon but will actually receive a new kind of spirit that is able not only to do what is right, but also to desire and do it, and for the right reasons too.

This is why the Christian is referred to as a New Creature (See 2 Corinthians 5:17), his whole life and destiny have changed; now he has the ability to truly obey and please God, and this becomes the priority and primary focus of his life.

Go into today knowing that the Christian is not just a new committed member of the church, but rather one who has received divine pardon and divine life.

1 Corinthians 13:12 (NET) For now we see in a mirror indirectly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known.

When Wole started reading his Bible and understanding it, he realized that there were many things he thought he understood that he didn’t understand. He realized that the best he could attain while in this body of flesh was but a foretaste. That the real manifestation of his glory was going to come with the resurrection that would happen when the Lord returns. He also started to understand that when the Lord returns in glory with His Saints, we would literally physically take over the governments and kingdoms of this world (see Revelation 11:15, Daniel 7:27).

He used to wish the Lord would delay his coming so he could accomplish some things, but after more understanding, he started praying daily that the Lord should hasten His coming.

When you see believers wishing in their hearts that the Lord's coming is delayed, you have seen believers with very little understanding of the kingdom of God and the hope of our calling. That’s a very dangerous place to be for a believer.

"The spirit and the bride (Church) say come". That is the yearning and one of the greatest desires of the true living church (see Revelation 22:17).

Go into today remembering that when the Lord appears, we shall be like Him and we shall rule and reign on the earth, and over all creation forever. The resurrection body we would receive is what would reveal our real nature as sons of God. This is when shall see Him face to face and will know fully.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you understand the hope of His calling and see the exceeding riches of your inheritance in Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NET) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

Sister Grace had believed in God for a husband for many years. Being a committed worker in the Church, her Pastor took a special interest in her and began to intercede for her. After some days of intercession, the Lord gave Genesis 2:18 as his word for the matter. After receiving this Bible verse, the Pastor decided to have a chat with her, and that was when he discovered that she had been her own problem all along; she had her specifications and was not willing to budge.

God has a female for every male and a male for every female, but your male or female will be brought to you only when you are open to God’s choice. Making an idol out of your specifications will only increase your wait time. You make an idol out of your specs when you believe God has to give you according to them or nothing. Usually, these specs are not primarily based on God's word but rather centered on our own peculiar desires and designs.

Many people find it difficult to trust God's will for them because they don't truly know God. God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and more loving than any parent could be. His plans for you are better than your plans for you. So when as a believer, you are certain that something is the will of God for you, that should be the most important consideration in any matter.

2 Corinthians 5:15 (NET)  And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised.

Even though Denise had accepted the Lord Jesus, he still struggled with certain sins he used to enjoy while he was an unbeliever. He had attended several prayer vigils, given himself a very strict prayer schedule, and had gone for several deliverance services, but these did not change much. He found that he was still a slave to the flesh and to sin. He was bothered because he understood that as long as he was still a slave to sin, he could not walk in the fullness of his glory as a son of God.

It was when he attended a student congress outreach program in the northern part of his country that he understood the message of the cross, and that was the beginning of his freedom. Several months later, he reflected on his life and remembered how he used to be a slave to sin. He had nothing but thanksgiving in his heart. "The cross indeed is the secret of real power" he exclaimed.

God's answer to the flesh is the cross. It is not prayer and fasting nor is it deliverance. These are good and can provide solutions when a believer who has adopted the philosophy of the cross life finds that for whatever reason, he is demonized and being manipulated against his will. But when talking about overcoming the power of the flesh, the cross is the solution.

The doctrine of the cross is the philosophy by which Jesus lived. It is the philosophy by which all his followers must live if they will conquer the power of the flesh(Adamic nature). The Lord Jesus did not live to please himself or fulfill his own pleasure. He carried his cross daily -- existed to only please the father. The reason Jesus came to the world was to do the will of the father. He went to the cross because that was the will of the father.

A believer who lives by this same philosophy must come to terms with the truth that life for him is no longer about pleasing himself but about pleasing God. He must die to his self-life and begin to live the God-life. He must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Jesus.

In those days, if you saw a man carrying his cross, he was carrying his death sentence. He was going to be crucified. Carrying your cross daily means carrying your death sentence to the flesh. You must remind yourself daily that life is not about pleasing you, it is now about pleasing God.

Go into today remembering that the secret of real power over sin and over the works of the flesh is the [philosophy of] the cross.

Reflect on today's Bible Text and this scripture:

Galatians 2:20 (NET)  I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Doers of the Word

James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Sandra was in church for every meeting. She kept coming to hear the word of God because she believed she was a believer who was on her way to heaven. The problem was that she was not a doer of the word, she was merely a hearer only. Somehow she had deceived herself to believe that her conduct as a person does not matter. She was living [in sin] with her boyfriend, but she was a regular hearer of God's word in the church and had convinced herself that she was heaven-bound.

In today's verse, notice that the Holy Spirit talks about hearers of the word, not those who simply heard once. The reason a person can be called a hearer of the word is that he keeps hearing the word, not just that he heard it once.

A hearer who is not a doer of the word is one who keeps coming back to church to hear the word because he somehow believes that despite the fact that he is not living according to the word of God, he is saved and going to heaven. The Bible says that such a person is only deceiving himself.

Believers who refuse to live in obedience to God's word are simply deceiving themselves when they believe they will inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9, 1 John 3:7). See what our Lord Jesus says in Matthew:

Matthew 7:21 (KJV) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

The will of God is contained in His word, We must be doers of His word.

Go into today remembering that a person who deceives himself is one who doesn't live in obedience to the word, but believes that he is safe because he is in church hearing the word.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please deliver me from self-deception. Help me to live in obedience to your word and be fruitful in every good work. Amen.

The superiority of love

1 Corinthians 13:8-9 (NIV)Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
Read 1 Cor 13:8-13

Of the three powerful spiritual virtues (faith, hope, and love), love is the greatest (see 1 Cor 13:13). It is the only reality on this side of eternity that did not come in part but came in full.

All the knowledge you can have now is in part. All the [prophetic] gifts you can have now are in part. But love is the only virtue that is not in part. When completeness comes through the resurrection, what is in part disappears, only what is whole will remain- love.

After the resurrection and we have been ushered into the fullness of our glory as sons of God, we would not need spiritual gifts because we would have unlimited spiritual bodies like that of Christ (Philippians 3:21, 1 Corinthians 16:44), and all acquired knowledge would be useless because we would share in God’s divine nature of omniscience (1 Cor 13:12). But we would still love each other and love our eternal Father.

Of all the powerful virtues we can have today, love is the only one that will endure for all eternity. Prophecies will cease, faith and hope would have been actualized, but love will remain.

Do you see how powerful love is? It is the only attribute we have that Satan cannot counterfeit. He doesn’t have the ability and power to love. Only those who are born of God have this ability (1 John 4:7).

Go into today thanking God for the privilege to walk in His divine nature of love. Thank Him for the power that walking in this nature releases into your life. Ask the Lord to help you walk in love more than ever before.

Because you have kept my admonition

Revelation 3:10 (NET) Because you have kept my admonition to endure steadfastly, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

As Femi started to seek the Lord in prayer and fasting for the year, one of the first things he did was to ask the Lord what improvements he needed to make in his life to walk better in pleasing the Lord. He sensed the Lord leading him to be more committed to prayers this year. When he got to church in the evening, he received confirmation to that admonition. It was now clear to Femi that he needed to set aside some time every night to pray and spend time with the Lord henceforth.

In today’s Bible text, Jesus talked about an hour of testing. IN 1 Cor 7:26, Apostle Paul also made reference [by the spirit of prophecy] to an Impending crisis. History has it that around that period, Christians everywhere were persecuted by the very powerful Roman Empire which ruled the world. The Empire made it a duty to persecute and kill Christians everywhere, and they used their very vast resources to do this. But the Church in Philadelphia was going to be spared from this testing because they always kept the Lord’s admonition to them.

The Lord has the power to preserve His own from global or national occurrences that appear inescapable. When a person honors the Lord, the Lord honors him and would dedicate special resources for His peace and prosperity(see 1 Sam 2:30). The church at Philadelphia honored the Lord and Kept His admonition. Because of this, they were spared.

I do not know what admonition you have recently received from the Lord, but as you go into today, determine to keep the Lord’s admonition, and see His preserving grace and power multiply in every area of your life.

God still gives Eve to Adam

Genesis 1:27 (KJV), “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them".

I once listened to a marriage coach who said, “God no longer gives people wives or husbands, the last time he did was with Adam, and he was blamed for doing so". He continued by saying, “the new standard is, ‘whosoever finds a wife', so, go out there and find yourself a wife. Don't just sit back waiting for God to bring her to you, because he will not".

When choosing who to marry, there are several ways people do it. Some of the popular catchphrases regarding this are: “marry your friend”, “make sure you are compatible”, “marry the one you love”, etc, Even though these counsels are reasonable, they do not guarantee a successful marriage that would fulfill God’s purpose. Many of these counsels rely on our own ability to make the right decision, but God knows how limited we are in this regard. In the beginning, it was “I will make him a help meet for him" (Genesis 2:18 KJV).

Is Genesis 2:18 still valid today or should one go by the thoughts of the said marriage coach?

The Scriptures reveal that we must depend on God for all things, marriage inclusive.

Proverbs 3:5 (KJV) says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding".

Proverbs 19:14 (NLT), “Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the LORD can give an understanding wife".

Go into today knowing that God still gives spouses and He will give you your own if you trust Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I trust you in all things, so I let you rule my life.

Look! An Open Door

Revelation 3:7-9 (NET) "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write the following: "This is the solemn pronouncement of the Holy One, the True One, who holds the key of David, who opens doors no one can shut, and shuts doors no one can open: 8 'I know your deeds. (Look! I have put in front of you an open door that no one can shut.) I know that you have little strength, but you have obeyed my word and have not denied my name.

Folakemi wanted an open door so much because she understood that an open door meant opportunities for greater blessings and promotions. She did not know that an open door was already set before her. Her problem was that she couldn’t see it. She was working in a place where she literally had to deal with thousands of campus students every week, and they all held her in very high esteem. When her eyes were opened, she now saw that her influence over the students was an opportunity for her to do what the Lord had been impressing on her heart for years.

It is worthy of note that Jesus told the saints in Philadelphia to ‘LOOK! I have put in front of you an open door’. One of the biggest problems hindering people from walking into open doors is that they have not seen the doors set before them by the Lord.

An open door represents every new great opportunity provided for you to make spiritual and physical or financial increases. One essential thing about an open door is that you have to see it. Secondly, you have to understand that if a particular door has been opened for you by the Lord, no person or devil can close it. This is the confidence you need to walk into your open doors.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you see every open door set before you in this season of your life. Ask for wisdom to make the best use of every opportunity set before you.

One father, many instructors

1 Corinthians 4:15 (KJV) For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Richard and Ford were childhood friends but were separated for some years because they attended different universities. They were reunited after graduating from the university but the two friends could no longer blend because they now attended different Church denominations. After their reunion, Ford excitedly invited Richard to a special program in his Church. Richard, however, turned down the invitation. "We have been friends from childhood, do this for the sake of our friendship," Ford said. "We are not permitted to visit other churches, we cannot even listen to messages preached by other preachers, if we do, we will be punished" Richard replied. "But we are all born-again Christians serving Jesus, I can’t understand you". Ford answered and walked away.

Admonishing the church, Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (KJV) stated that, ‘‘now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

We are not called to disciple a denomination, we are called to disciple the Nations. If you are a leader to whom God has given spiritual sons, you should be secure enough to allow your sons access to other godly instructors, knowing that there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which walketh all in all.

If your sons are going to have balanced growth, they must eat a balanced diet. This will happen when you play your part and allow others to play their part in their lives. One of the most painful things to deal with is disciples that are not balanced or spiritually mature. It would be hard for believers to be mature if all their spiritual diet is from only one minister and none other. Christ didn't design His body that way.

Go into today knowing that the body is not one member, but many and God has placed each of the members in the body just as He decided. (1 Corinthians 12:14,18).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you grow to the fullness of your stature in Christ and be fruitful in every good work.

The right response to God's word 2

Broadcast 3572

Luke 12:47-48 (NET) That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know his master’s will and did things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.

Itopa began asking for mercy after he realized that his closed heaven resulted from his refusal to respond appropriately to God's word. As soon as he made up his mind that he was going to repent and stop being worldly, his peace was restored and his affliction ceased.

At some point, he started wishing he had never been to church that day and heard that word that demanded so much of him. Little did he know that the level of revelation he had could not sustain him in the next seasons of his life. He was going to contend with real principalities when he entered politics and public office. If he had not received that word and grown the way he did, his enemies would have made mincemeat of him.

As Itopa made the adjustments in his life and stopped being worldly, he realized that he had been missing so much all this while. He now enjoyed a level of communion with God that he didn't know he could experience. The peace of God and the security of God he felt were unparalleled. It was so superior to the peace and security that came with having lots of money.

Every new revelation of truth through God's word that comes to you comes to lift you up and bring about growth. If a believer fails to grow spiritually, he will start dying and diminishing. Believers experience spiritual fatigue and lose their first love when they stop learning and growing.

Go into today remembering that as long as you are in this body of flesh, your growth in the knowledge of God should never cease.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me continually grow and become like Jesus. Amen.

Saved by the Grace of the Lord Jesus

Broadcast 3571
1 Corinthians 9:21 (NET) To those free from the law I became like one free from the law (though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.
In the old covenant, people believed that salvation could be received by keeping the laws of God. That is what it means to be under the law. It means believing that the reason you will be saved is because of certain laws you can keep. But when a person believes that he receives salvation because of the sacrifice of Christ alone, that is what it means to be under grace.

Anyone who is a believer in Christ is not under the 613 laws of Moses. He is not even under the Ten Commandments. He is under the grace of the Lord Jesus and is ruled by the LAW OF CHRIST.

Of the Ten Commandments, Jesus reiterated nine of them and gave us better context and understanding (see Matt 5-7). These are now known as the LAW OF CHRIST. They are based on love for God and love for neighbor. There are other instructions Jesus gave that were not captured by the Law of Moses. They include instructions concerning marriage and divorce, retribution, handling debts, prayer, handling anxiety and fear, forgiveness, etc.

If we as believers were under the 613 laws or even the 10 commandments, many of us would have been operating under a curse because scripture says cursed is everyone that does not continue to do all that is written in the book of the law (see Galatians 3:10, Deuteronomy 27:26). As Christians, there are many aspects of the law that we do not keep (like the law of sabbath or the laws of ceremonial cleansing, etc) and we would have been under a curse if we were to be under the law, but as it stands, we are not under the curse of the law but under the blessing of Abraham because we are not under the law but under the law of Christ - the seed of Abraham (see Galatians 3:13,16).

Go into today remembering that the reason why you are saved is because of the grace of the Lord Jesus and not because of your ability to observe rules and regulations. Those under the grace of Christ live according to His will.

The right response to God's word

Broadcast 3570

James 4:17 (NET) So whoever knows what is good to do and does not do it is guilty of sin.

Itopa heard a powerful sermon about the kingdom of God and God's expectations for his saints. While hearing this sermon, he had a strong witness in his heart that what the preacher said was the truth. With the new understanding he gained, the scriptures also became clearer. After listening to the sermon, Itopa prayed and prayed, but he didn't change his ways. He continued to be a worldly Christian whose greatest aspiration was more money.

Ever since the day Itopa heard that sermon, his prayers were no longer getting answered. He also observed that he was no longer enjoying the fellowship of the Holy Spirit the way he used to. "What exactly is going on!" Itopa exclaimed. "How come my prayer life went dry after I heard that wonderful sermon and prayed so hard? Am I under an attack?"

After days of spiritual dryness and consequent afflictions, Itopa realized that the reason for the spiritual dryness he observed was because the word he heard brought greater light and a higher revelation of truth to him, but he continued to walk in his former ways of ignorance. Before he was exposed to this greater truth and light, the Lord condoned his ignorance since he didn't know any better, but the ignorance limited him greatly without him knowing it. Now that he was exposed to greater light, continuing in his old ways of ignorance was no longer acceptable before the Lord. This was the reason for the dryness he experienced.

Many believers walk in a very limited version of themselves because of the limited light of God's word that they have been exposed to. The Lord waits eagerly for them to receive greater light and consequently unleash their potential. But when such believers receive the greater light of God's word but refuse to change their ways because of tradition, convenience, or any other reason they may have, God doesn't take it lightly with such believers. They can experience a closed heaven because of that.

Go into today remembering that every new exposure to greater light through God's word does not leave you the same, it either promotes you or demotes you if you refuse to adjust. God can wink at times of ignorance, but when greater light comes through the ministry of the word, repentance is the only acceptable outcome for God's people.

Christ Heals those who follow Him

Broadcast 3569

Matthew 19:1-2 (NET) Now when Jesus finished these sayings, he left Galilee and went to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan River. Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

Obinna accepted the Lord Jesus and continued to grow in his walk with God. He realized that the goal of God in calling us is that we become like Christ (see Romans 8:29), so he was committed to becoming like Christ. But he was very aware that there were spiritual ailments that bedeviled him and this was a problem that followed every member of his family. One of the manifestations of this spiritual ailment was that no member of his family ever excelled in anything good. His elder brothers were thieves and his younger sister lived in a brothel.

As Obinna continued to follow the Lord, he observed that he was now free. He was now able to excel in good things and prosper. His pastor encouraged him to return to school and he heeded his pastor's advice. Five years after he accepted Christ he graduated from a university as the best in his class, with multiple job offers. Through him, salvation and deliverance from generational curses came into his family. As Obinna's focus shifted to becoming more like Christ, the yokes in his life that could not enslave Christ began to break off because he was becoming more like Christ. The key to spiritual liberty is allowing yourself to become more like Christ daily. This happens as you give yourself daily to prayer and the infusion of God's word.

From today's Bible verse, we see that during the Lord's earthly ministry, he healed the people that followed Him. If you will follow Jesus today, he will heal you of every physical and spiritual infirmity.

Go into today remembering that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He healed those who followed Him then, He will heal you today if you truly follow Him and become His disciple.

Prayer Confession: I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am free from all curses and walk in the blessing of Abraham.

Do Not Trust A Man

Broadcast 3568

Psalm 146:5 (KJV), “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God"

Tonye partnered with her bosom friend to do a business and the business prospered, but when it was time to share the proceeds, she got the shock of her life; her friend disappeared and became incommunicado. After this experience, her slogan became “trust no man”.

Tonye's conclusion was based on a hurt, and you may have come to the same conclusion if you have experienced a similar situation. This however is neither my emphasis nor the reason for today's topic.

Psalm 146:3 (KJV) reads: “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help".

“Are you for real? Do you mean there is no help in princes? Why then do we appeal to them for help?” Someone might ask.

I believe these questions were answered in Proverbs 3:5-6 which says: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths".

If you are trusting the Lord with all your heart, you cannot trust in another at the same time. If you are able to trust anything else, it shows you have not trusted the Lord with all your heart.

Go into today knowing that when you put all your trust in God, he directs your path and this may include getting you help from a prince.

Prayer confession: my trust is not in any man neither is my trust in anything. My whole trust is in the Lord and he will direct my path in Jesus' name, amen!

What Is Being God's Image?

Broadcast 3567

Matthew 22:20-21 (KJV) “And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's".

In the verses that precede today's text, the Pharisees tempted Jesus' judgment, so they could pit him against God or at least against the ruling authority and the tool used was the tax coin. He however escaped their trap. The special thing about this coin is that it bears the image of Caesar.

Using this coin as an example, we intend to gain knowledge regarding the question, "what is being God's image?"?

According to Genesis 1:27 (KJV), “...God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them".

So, what is being God's image?

As Jesus pointed out to the Pharisees, the tax coin bears Caesar's image, which indicates that it belonged to Caesar. So, being God's image is to be God's.

Secondly, Wherever the coin was spent, Caesar has authority, so wherever man is found, God has authority.

Thirdly, the coin testified to Caesar and reminded the people of him. In like manner, a man or a woman should testify to God and remind others of him.

In summary, according to today's lesson, being in God's image is to be God's property and have the ability to represent and or testify to him.

Go into today knowing that the most reasonable thing to do as God's property is to offer yourself to him.
