The Believer and His Tradition 2

Broadcast 4049
Click here for the audio version:
1 Corinthians 11:2 (NET) I praise you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Akogun became so sick that it was looking like he would die. This illness started after he came back from his journey to the village for the holidays. As the intercessors in the church prayed for him, someone saw a vision that revealed that the reason he was afflicted was that he exposed himself to certain elemental spirits when he innocently partook in some cultural practices for a festival in his village during the Christmas holidays.

Many believers have found themselves in big trouble because they exposed themselves to some pagan traditions of their culture of birth after becoming believers. When you became a believer in Christ Jesus, you were reconciled with God through faith in Christ Jesus. Because of this, you became a friend of God. But this also meant you became an enemy of the world—the prince of this world (the devil) and his company.

Traditions that were born out of pagan worship were designed to connect people with demons and keep them under the domain of principalities. If through a cultural practice, a believer (who is now an enemy of the devil and his kingdom) brings himself under their authority, he would be greatly attacked. Some believers have even fallen asleep before their time because of this.

Before the coming of the gospel, every ethnic group on earth had a culture, and these cultures were shaped by their religion and gods. The only group of people who were relatively free from cultures and traditions inspired by demons was the people of Israel because they worshiped the one true God.

Being an apostle to the Gentiles, there were many things Apostle Paul had to teach and explain to the Gentile believers because they grew up in cultures that were antithetical to the divine life.

In discipling people, it is expedient that you are diligent to identify unwholesome cultural practices and traditions that the enemy may seek to use to trap them. When you take away a bad tradition, it should be replaced with a good one.

Go into today remembering that because you are of a kingdom that is higher and better than any other, you are not to submit yourself to any cultural practice that does not glorify God and uphold His righteousness.

Prayer: Ask the Lord Jesus to deliver you from falling into the trap of practicing demonically inspired traditions.

Reflection: Reflect on any cultural practices or traditions you observe. Ask yourself if they align with the righteousness and teachings of Christ. If they do not, seek wisdom and strength from the Lord to replace them with traditions that honor Him and uphold His truth.

The Believer and His Tradition

Broadcast 4048
Click here for the audio version:
1 Corinthians 11:2 (NET) I praise you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Sandra had a lingering misunderstanding with her mother-in-law because she and her husband were believers and they decided not to follow certain traditions that were not spiritually edifying. For some reason, Sandra’s mother-in-law insisted that Sandra was to blame for this (because she was from another ethnic group). With patience, great wisdom, and a show of love, Sandra succeeded in winning her mother-in-law’s heart.

There are hundreds of different traditions and cultures in the world today, and many of them stem from the religion of the people that practice them. It is often said that culture is the cloak of religion. For the believer, every tradition must be screened through the lenses of scripture. If a tradition or custom is contradictory to the truth of God's Word, it must be discarded by the believer. But if a tradition is not in contradiction to the truth of God's Word, it shouldn't be discarded.

As believers, we are a Holy nation (1 Pet 2:9), and we have our own traditions that are peculiar to us everywhere. Even though some outward interpretations of them can vary because of cultural influences, the spirit of every Christian tradition must be understood and upheld by believers. Walking in these ensures that we walk in the blessing.

Underlying principles and pillars of the Christian tradition are virtues such as love, honor, kindness, diligence, compassion, self-control, moral purity, justice & fairness, patience, humility, and orderliness. Any human tradition that contradicts any of these principles should be discarded.

Go into today remembering that you are first and foremost a citizen of heaven. Every custom and tradition you practice must be vetted by the truth of God's Word and not found wanting. Some traditions must be rejected and done away with because they are mediums through which demons invade people's lives.

Prayer: Lord, help me to discern which traditions honor you and which do not. Give me the courage to uphold godly traditions and reject those that are contrary to your Word. Amen.

Being Sober and Vigilant

Broadcast 4047
Click here for the audio version:
1 Peter 1:13 (NET): "Therefore, get your minds ready for action by being fully sober, and set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed."
Deril was removed from his role as a pilot because he failed random drug tests twice in a row. Even though he was one of the most talented pilots in the company, his boss had to let him go because he was no longer sober enough for the sensitive job of a pilot.

He was going through major frustrations in his personal life and sought comfort through drugs. The company understood that their pilots need to be most vigilant, and a pilot who is high on drugs cannot be vigilant enough, no matter how talented he is. An aircraft can crash if the pilot is not sober enough to observe the slightest warning signs and signals.

In order to be truly vigilant, it is necessary to be sober (see 1 Peter 5:8). A distracted and troubled mind cannot truly be vigilant. One of the biggest enemies of sobriety is anxiety and fear. An anxious and fearful mind cannot be truly vigilant.

When our hearts are fully set on the grace that we will receive when the Lord appears, it will help us keep our priorities in the right place, and the prince of this world would not be able to sway us with things he can control. A secret to spiritual stability is having our hope fixed on the grace and glory we will receive when the Lord appears.

Go into today remembering to cast your cares and anxieties upon the Lord. Let the joy of the Lord fill your heart. Watch and pray always.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be sober and vigilant. Deliver me from all my fears. In Jesus' name. Amen.

No To Slavery

Broadcast 4047
Click here for the audio version:
Romans 6:15-16 (NET) What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! Do you not know that if you present yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?

Because Tom understood that the grace of God was abundant and that forgiveness of sins was always available in God, he started flirting with sin and invoking grace. It didn't take him long to realize that he was now a slave to certain sins he used to enjoy. Even though he wanted to be free, he found that he did not have the ability to break free.

If a believer willfully gives himself to any sin for a period of time, that sinful work of the flesh will ultimately open the door to the dominion of demons that impose that sin. When this happens, such a person becomes a slave to that kind of sin. This is the kind of situation that would require deliverance, and in certain cases, the person involved may need to confess to another believer who can help administer deliverance to him.

Go into today remembering that sin of any kind is never to be allowed to continue in the life of a believer because it leads to spiritual slavery to darkness.

Prayer Confession: Sin shall have no dominion over me in Jesus' name.

It Shall Not Come Near You

Broadcast 4046
Click here for the audio version:
Psalms 91:7 (NKJV) A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.

When the economic recession in Nigeria started, Nnamdi was afraid that he was going to be greatly affected by it because of the nature of his business. He remembered the word of God in today's Bible verse and decided that he would believe it and live in that reality. One thing he made up his mind he was never going to do was to complain about the bad economy like everybody else did. He would say 'it is a good economy for me, it is not bad'. That was exactly what he experienced.

When some of his major clients defaulted on payments because they could no longer afford to pay, Nnamdi insisted that he was not going down with the economy. Because of his faith and resolve, the Lord gave him the wisdom to become even more profitable than he had ever been. He became wealthier even in the recession.

What you believe and say about yourself is very important. The power of life and death is in the tongue (Prov 18:21). Your mouth confesses what your heart believes. And your heart will come to believe what you often say with your mouth.

The promise of God in today's Bible verse has been freely given to you in Christ. You must activate it by faith and expect to see it manifest in your life.

Go into today remembering that you are not ordinary. You are the apple of God's eye (Zech 2:8). Even if thousands around you are falling, it will not come near you.

Confession: Evil shall not come near me. I am not a victim but a victor in life. I am a winner in life and my light shines. Hallelujah!

You Shall Not Be Afraid 3

Broadcast 4044
Click here for the audio version:
Psalms 91:5-6 (NKJV)You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

When Niki traveled to her village for the first time, she was already 27 years old and now born again. She needed to attend her grandfather’s burial.

It turned out that her parents were not wrong in their fear of going to the village because the first night Niki spent in that village, a demon was sent to afflict her with an incurable disease. Because Niki had the ability to see visions and walk in the prophetic, she saw in a dream how an old man and a witch joined powers to summon a demon that was to afflict her with a disease in the night. Their plan was that she would travel back to the city before noticing the symptoms of the incurable disease. But because Niki was under the shadow of the Almighty, the demon couldn't come near her and had to return to the persons that sent it. She noticed the following day that certain women were now so afraid of coming near her and could not even look at her face. This was obvious to other people too.

Many diseases and afflictions are spiritually inflicted on people before they begin to see the physical manifestations. The word of God for you today is 'you shall not be afraid of the pestilence that walks in darkness nor the destruction that wastes at noonday'. None of the diseases afflicting people will come near you because you are under the shadow of the Almighty.

Go into today believing God's word and knowing that you are covered from the evils distributed by evil spirits.

Confession: I am under the shadow of the Almighty. No evil shall befall me and no disease shall come near me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Proverbs 28:1 (KJV)The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Eleojo entered her office and thanked the Lord for a brand new day. She wanted to sit down on her chair when she saw the charm and dead tortoise on it. She was so shocked that she screamed ‘Jesus’ at the top of her voice. Minutes later, the man who placed the charm came to her office. His name was Sani.

Sani: Good morning, madam. I just heard you scream. Hope all is well?

Eleojo: (already comfortably seated on that same office chair) Good morning, sir. I’m fine. How is your wife?

Sani: (perplexed to see her seated on the chair and looking so relaxed) I… I... heard you shouting. I...

Eleojo: I saw these charms in my office (pointing to the dustbin). The initial shock made me scream so loud. I’m sorry for alarming everyone.

Sani: But why are you sitting in the same chair you saw the charm? Shouldn't you avoid it?

Eleojo: God that is in me is far greater than the spirits that follow charms. Wait… how did you know it was on my chair?

Sani: I… I… just guessed. I...

Eleojo: (cuts in) The person who put it on my chair did so to hinder me from my seat in this office. I will not cooperate with that person.

Eleojo got the promotion the following week.

Eleojo was bold because she was filled with the Spirit and conscious of her righteousness in Christ. Many Christians are not bold because their consciences are defiled with guilt. You need a clear conscience to be bold like a lion.

Go into today remembering that all power in heaven and on earth now belongs to Christ (Matthew 28:18). His people live by this truth and do not fear the power of the enemy.

You Shall Not Be Afraid

Broadcast 4042

Psalms 91:5 (NKJV) "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day."

When Eleojo realized how far some people in her office would go to get promoted, she started getting afraid when she and six other people were due for the next big promotion. Unknown to her, knowing that she was the most qualified for the promotion, her enemies in the office tried several times to attack her by sending demonic spiritual arrows. But they failed each and every time.

One of her colleagues even consulted a sorcerer who gave him a very scary-looking charm and a dead tortoise to secretly place in Eleojo’s office. The only purpose of this charm was to bring fear into her life because they knew charms wouldn’t work on her. They wanted her to lose her peace and start living in fear when she saw the charm and tortoise. They understood that it would be easier for them to attack her when she was living in fear because such fear opens the door for demons.

The first part of today's Bible verse says, "You shall not be afraid…" In this life, there are many things that would seek to make you afraid, but remember that if you are in the secret place of the Most High, you will abide under His protection. The enemy sends thoughts and imaginations calculated to keep us in fear because he understands that if he can keep us in fear, we can be defeated.

Go into today remembering that constant fear creates a spiritual atmosphere that makes it conducive for demons to operate. Living in constant fear is a declaration of faithlessness. The victory that overcomes the dark powers of this world is your faith (see 1 John 5:4).

Prayer: Lord, help me overcome all fear. Amen.

Entering Into Your Calling

Broadcast 4041
Click here for the audio version:
Luke 9:23 (KJV): “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."

Peter, James, and John met Jesus in a very peculiar way. Being professional fishermen, they'd tried their best skills and, having caught nothing all night, retired to the shore to wash their nets. Something extraordinary happened: Jesus was in one of their boats because He needed it as a stage for His sermon. But that wasn't all; because of Jesus's command, the professional fishermen who couldn't catch a single fish all night now caught so many fish that they required an extra boat to ferry them to shore. This was the encounter that led to the call of these men. They had the most amazing response: they left all and followed Jesus (see Luke 5:1-11).

Just like it happened with these men, discovering one's call could follow a dramatic encounter— a vision, prophecy, miraculous healing, or provision. God does this so men may know that the One calling them is the All-Powerful One. But encounters alone, however breathtaking they may be, are not all that is needed.

The Lord Jesus in Luke 9:23 said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following the Lord daily are the actions that set the stage for a great destiny. Peter, James, and John did these when they abandoned what should have been called a "breakthrough" and followed Jesus; they chose not to be fixed on the encounter while neglecting the Giver of the encounter.

Go into today knowing that entering into your calling will require you to look beyond the encounters and start listening, obeying, and following God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please grant me the grace to forsake all, carry my cross daily, and follow You. Amen!

Hidden with Christ

Broadcast 4040
Click here for the audio version:
Colossians 3:3 (NET) For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Uche observed that he was still very much bound by the powers that enslaved him before he came out for the altar call to become born again. He could not understand why the promises the evangelist made were not being fulfilled in his life. The evangelist had promised that anyone who accepted Christ would be free from the bondage of darkness. But this was not the case with Uche. He started going from church to church, from vigil to prayer meetings, seeking spiritual liberty because he knew for sure that Jesus gives liberty.

He ended up in one church where the pastor asked to see him. This pastor, through prophecy, knew that Uche needed to see him in order to be free. After Uche had enumerated his ordeal, the pastor told him that he was still bound because he had not yet died to his old life. The only thing that changed in his life was that he was now going to church. He was still a liar, a cheat, a thief, and a fornicator.

Many believers claim the second part of today’s Bible verse while ignoring the first part. The reason why your life can be hidden in Christ is because you have died to the old life and awakened to the new life of Christ within you. The new life that now controls you can never be bound, but the old life controlled by the flesh ushers in demonic bondage.

Go into today remembering that you have new life in Christ Jesus if you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior. Abide in Him and let His word abide in you.

Confession: I am dead to the old life of sin. The life that I now live is hidden in Christ in God. Jesus rules my life.

Pride sabotages

Broadcast 4039
Click here for the audio version:
James 4:6 (NET) But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble."

Many of the workers in Mrs. Anderson's organization were very proud, which was now affecting the organization's reputation. The customer service left much to be desired, and the general attitude of her employees was one of arrogance. This issue stemmed from certain human resource trainers who had taught them to "esteem yourself if you want others to esteem you" and other similar notions that translated into a proud demeanor in unregenerate hearts.

Mrs. Anderson noticed this problem and tried to fix it by hiring another HR trainer, but it didn't work. One morning, after receiving yet another serious complaint due to the arrogant disposition of her staff, she asked the Lord how to fix this problem. The Lord quietly reminded her of how He teaches His church humility—by example.

She decided to start showing up at that particular office early every morning to work with the customer relations officers. She would attend to customers, help them carry their bags if necessary, be exceedingly polite, and greet them with a bow, among other humble gestures.

When her arrogant staff saw how humble their CEO was, most of them adjusted immediately and became genuinely humble in their demeanor and the way they related to customers. However, Mrs. Anderson had no choice but to fire the staff who did not change despite her example.

The Lord Jesus taught us that the path to greatness in His kingdom is through service and humility, and He exemplifies it. The easiest and fastest way for a believer to receive the virtue of humility is by looking at the humility of the Lord Jesus: how despite His greatness, He humbled Himself, became a man, and was persecuted and killed by the very men He created. He is so accessible to the lowliest of men.

Go into today remembering that pride is one of the few things in a person that can cause God to oppose him (see James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5-6). Many people's problem is not their enemies attacking them; it is their pride sabotaging them and causing them to receive opposition from God instead of help.

Ask the Lord to help you fix your gaze on Him and inherit His virtues of humility and gentleness (Matthew 11:29).

Make not provision for the flesh

Broadcast 4038
Click here for the audio version:
Romans 13:13-14 (NET) Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires.

After Gabriel recovered spiritually, he was now more careful with the places he visited and the people he spent time with. He realized that putting on the Lord Jesus was a repellent to the wrong people. Everyone who came close to him now heard about Jesus; they heard the praise of Jesus and thanksgiving to God in His name; and knew that Gabriel was under the authority of the Lord Jesus.

Gabriel now had a simple rule: he avoided any place where he knew the Lord would not go if He were physically present. He also avoided watching movies and engaging in conversations that he knew the Lord would not partake in.

It is impossible to put on a potent perfume and it would not be noticed by those who come close to you. It is impossible to put on the Lord Jesus and His authority over you will not be noticed by those who come close to you. The power of God answers to those whose nature has been transformed through their interaction with Jesus. Believers who still live like unbelievers would not know the power and glory of sonship (see 2 Corinthians 6:17-18), but will easily fall prey to seducing spirits.

Go into today remembering to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh. Every time we make provision for the flesh, we put off the Lord Jesus to do so.

Prayer: Father, help me live a life permeated by the presence of the Lord Jesus. Deliver me from the power of the flesh, In Jesus' name. Amen

Make not provision for the flesh

Romans 13:13-14 (NET) "Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires."

Gabriel used to be an alcoholic before he accepted the Lord Jesus. After meeting the Lord, he vowed never to drink alcohol again. He kept this vow and enjoyed his growing relationship with the Lord until his cousin came to visit from another country, requiring him to spend a lot of time with him.

Gabriel's cousin, being an unbeliever, wanted to visit clubs and bars together. Trying to be a good host, Gabriel did not decline as he usually would have. He followed his cousin to the club a few times, and one night, he took some alcohol, became drunk, and did things he had vowed never to do again. When he came to his senses, he regretted it with tears and ran to his pastor to confess what had happened. His pastor exclaimed, "Oh, you gave room to the flesh." He explained to Gabriel that the flesh cannot be transformed and will ultimately be changed during the resurrection. Until then, we must ensure that we do not give it room.

No matter how high you go in the Spirit, if you give room to the flesh for a moment, you will be shocked at how untransformed the flesh remains and how it seeks to dominate you. The flesh is an unrepentant rebel that must be perpetually mortified.

There are songs, environments, thoughts, and imaginations that, if not quickly arrested, will give room to the flesh. There are also companies that, if not severed, will give room to the flesh.

Go into today remembering that no matter how high you've gone, if you give the flesh even a little room to dominate your soul, it will ultimately cause you to fall. Guard your heart with all diligence. Watch out for the things that give room to the flesh and cut them out of your life.

Prayer: I enjoy Christ's exceeding grace; I walk in the Spirit and please the Lord in all things. I give no room to the flesh; sin has no dominion over me.

The ultimate key to answered prayers

Broadcast 4035
Click here for the audio version:
Psalms 37:4 (KJV)“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

Mr. Elijah had five children he loved very much, but everyone believed George was his favorite because he always gave George the things he desired, even at times when he would say "no" to others. It wasn’t that he loved his other children less than he loved George, but he was more fond of George.

Of all his children, George was the one who delighted in him the most. For example, George would run the fastest and scream the loudest with joy whenever his father came home from work. George also loved spending time with his dad the most. Because George delighted in his dad more than the others, he understood him better and knew the kinds of things he liked and disliked. Consequently, he enjoyed more favor from his dad.

When a child of God delights himself in the Lord, it means he loves the presence of God and the word/law of the Lord. The word of the Lord is the clearest expression of the nature of the Lord to us, offering us the opportunity to know His ways and become more like Him. The more we become like Him, the more our desires align with His, and we see them fulfilled by Him. People can grow in favor with God(see Luke 2:52), and this is often because of their desires and delights.

Go into today remembering that delighting yourself in the Lord will manifest in your desire to know Him more and become like Him. Those who delight themselves in the Lord will find that they are continually transformed into the nature and likeness of the Lord (this is the definition of fruitfulness). This is the ultimate secret to answered prayers (see John 15:16).

True faith in Christ Jesus 4

Broadcast 4034
Click here for the audio version:
Jude 3-4 (NLT)…But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people. 4 I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God's marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives…

One sad thing about being deceived is that those deceived do not know that they are being deceived. They sincerely believe that they are right.

Deception is one of the devil's key weapons against God's people. He tries to get us deluded to walk in darkness. For the past couple of days, we have been writing on 'true faith in Christ Jesus' because we want to destroy the deception of the devil that is leading honest Christians into a kind of faith that is not the true faith in Christ Jesus. This kind of faith has no fruit and no evidence of righteousness but is simply talk and more talk. This kind of faith has no real power it produces because it leaves its followers captives to diverse sorts of sins.

When Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 which says "Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers… will not inherit the kingdom of God", he knew that there would be those who claimed to have faith in Christ, but who were still practicing these sins. He knew such people believed they were in God's kingdom because they were deceived.

The devil will do anything to keep people deceived from walking in righteousness, because this would give them power over him. He would use false doctrines to deceive many into a version of faith that makes them powerless over him.

Go into today knowing that unrighteousness is what gives Satan power over people. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

Thank the Lord Jesus for His blood that cleanses you. Ask for grace to walk in true righteousness.

True Faith in Christ Jesus 3

Broadcast 4033
Click here for the audio version:

Jude 3-4 (NLT)…But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people. I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God's marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives…

When Jim gave his life to Christ, he was very glad to find a church that didn’t make him uncomfortable with his lifestyle [of sin] that he enjoyed. They encouraged him to love the Lord, but did not discourage him from loving the world (see 1 John 2:15). He continued in his sinful lifestyle while he grew in his commitment to that church community. What he did not know was that he was not yet truly converted.

Any teaching that undermines righteousness is not teaching the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is teaching another faith. True Faith always produces righteousness, and faith without works is dead (see James 2:14). Righteousness produced by faith is not a product of human struggle; it is a product of grace.

The purpose of the old covenant was to produce righteousness. The old covenant could not do this because the flesh weakened man. The purpose of the new covenant is still to produce righteousness in us. It has succeeded because our born-again spirits energize us beyond the limitations of the flesh. We are being renewed from within.

The reason why God's covenant with fallen man seeks to produce righteousness is that God's throne is established in righteousness and justice (see Psa 89:14). If we must partake in this throne, we must allow God's nature of righteousness to dominate us.

Go into today asking the Lord to empower you to always please Him in all things, and be fruitful in every good work.

True Faith in Christ Jesus 2

Broadcast 4032
Click here for the audio version:
1 John 3:10-11(NASB) By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
Clement was careful with the friends he made as a freshman in college. He knew that God wanted to use him on campus, so he carefully selected his friends. His rule was simple; anyone who practiced unrighteousness was unrighteous and not a child of God, regardless of what he or she claimed to be. This is how he succeeded in making the right friends.

The Lord Jesus teaches us that we will know people by their fruits(see Mat 7:16). We also see from today's Bible text that anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God.

Our righteousness comes from the Lord; He helps us and empowers us to be righteous before Him. The Holy Spirit within us administers the grace of God to our spirits and empowers us to be righteous before God, but we must yield to the Spirit and not yield to the flesh. This is the secret of Christian righteousness.

No one truly filled with the Holy Spirit will continue to walk in unrighteousness because he will have received a renewed nature. No one who knows God will trust in his own righteousness as the basis for access to God. He will know that the grace of Jesus that gives him access to God's throne is also responsible for his ability to be righteous.

Go into today yielding to the Holy Spirit and walking in a manner worthy of the Lord.

Ask the Lord to deliver you from everything that displeases Him and help you glorify Him with your body.

True faith in Christ Jesus

Broadcast 4031
Click here for the audio version:
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NET) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I have known of persons who live in known sins and claim to be believers in Christ Jesus. They claim that they are saved by grace, and that their salvation is not affected by their unholy lifestyle.

We cannot rule out the fact that Christians can make mistakes and sometimes fall, but anyone who continually comfortably lives in sin has no part in God's kingdom. He only proves that He has not really been born of God, because anyone truly born of God will have a changed nature that abhors sin (see 1 John 3:9).

If you profess faith in Christ Jesus but are still comfortably living in any of the sins mentioned in today’s Bible text, know that your profession of faith in Christ is counterfeit. You have been deceived and need to repent from your sins in order to have a part in the kingdom of God. True faith in Christ Jesus always produces true repentance.

God’s grace empowers you to live a holy life before Him. It is never a license to sin. God wants us to walk in His perfect will and experience the best of His riches, but sin and guilt are some of the major hindrances to this. God's grace is available to help anyone who repents and turns to Him for empowerment to be Holy.

Go into today, trusting in the finished work of Christ on the cross as the reason why you will receive the grace of God to walk above sin. Do not let the devil discourage you if you fall. Know that even though a righteous man falls seven times, he will rise again because the seed of God is in him (see Prov 24:16).

Exercise the divine nature

Broadcast 4030
Click here for the audio version:
1 John 2:10 (NET) The one who loves his fellow Christian resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

Daniel's dad was a celebrated wrestling champion and a very fast runner. Daniel had inherited his father's athletic genes, but he could not do any of the things His father did because his muscles were not built up. When Daniel got to college, he joined a group that made him exercise routinely. Daniel then realized he too could run very fast and play tennis. In no time, he started to excel in wrestling. He could do all this because His muscles were now developed.

If you read the book of 1st John, you will see that the most obvious theme is love. 1 John reveals that when we walk in love, we will walk above a guilty conscience (1 John 3:18-20). It also reveals that when we walk in love, we walk in the light and receive cleansing from unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We can also see from today's Bible text that when we walk in love, there would be no cause for stumbling in us.

In order to walk in the reality of God's divine life and grace that you have received, you need to exercise yourself in His nature and grow therein. As you grow, you will be able to know God more and grow in His grace. A child doesn’t have the capacity to properly know his father until grows up from being a child.

Like Daniel in the story above, as you exercise and develop your spiritual muscles, you will realize that because you have grown through exercising the most dominant attribute of God's nature you now have, you will also grow in the many other attributes of God's divine nature. Your life will be full of grace and power.

Go into today, deciding to further exercise your divine nature by walking in love.

Eternal life

Broadcast 4029
Click here for the audio version:

1 John 5:11 (NET)  And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

When Ted gave his life to Christ, it was like his life had just begun because his old life was now a thing of the past. He now had the empowerment to live above his old habits and proclivities that made his life miserable. And he received healing from the incurable disease he was born with. "The Lord gave me a new life when I became born again. My old life gave way for a new superior life" Ted said.

Ted's testimony may appear really wowing, but that is how the Lord wants every Christian to receive the new life. Eternal life is in Christ Jesus, and Christ dwells in you through the Holy Spirit. This is the reason why baptism in the spirit is important for every Christian. You cannot fully enjoy eternal life if you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit. And if you are baptized, you need to stay filled.

Anyone filled with the Spirit will begin to experience eternal life. It is because of this life that you can cast out demons and heal the sick.

What then is eternal life? When the Bible speaks of eternal life in 1 John 5:11, it refers to the gift of God that comes only through Jesus Christ our Lord (see Romans 6:23). This gift is the life quality that Jesus has. This life is superior to the human life. It makes you a new creation and makes it possible for you to be transformed into the image of Christ. Without eternal life in your spirit, transformation into the image of Christ is impossible. Every Christian is actually born again into eternal life. But not all nurture this life to let it dominate them.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you walk in His eternal life.

Dwelling in Christ 3

Broadcast 4028
Click here for the audio version:
Ephesians 5:18 (KJV) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.

Pastor Felix shared with Bill that indulging in fleshly desires and excesses poses a significant obstacle to being filled with the Spirit. He emphasized that any activity done to excess, which doesn't contribute to spiritual growth, can hinder the Spirit's fullness. Pastor Felix cited examples such as overconsumption of alcohol, overeating, excessive sleep, idle chatter, and lust.

Bill admitted to Pastor Felix that he had been excessively watching godless movies lately, which did not uplift him spiritually.

Further, Pastor Felix explained to Bill that being filled with the Spirit is a continuous choice we make. While the Holy Spirit desires to fill us, we determine whether we allow Him to do so through our actions and decisions. Hence, the Bible instructs us to "be filled with the Spirit," signifying our active involvement in this process. He began teaching Bill practical steps to maintain a spirit-filled life.

go into today with a commitment to eliminate fleshly excesses and indulgences from your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to make these changes.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please enable me to be filled with your Spirit consistently. Amen.

John 15:5 (NKJV) "…for without Me you can do nothing”

After Bill suffered some affliction because of demonic attacks, he sought help from place to place. Pastor Felix had taught him the importance of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Bill was now properly enlightened and could see the need for the Holy Spirit’s baptism. He saw that the presence of the Holy Spirit in His life was the solution to His problems.

One Wednesday evening after communion service, Bill received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Felix had laid hands on Him earlier and he began to speak in tongues uncontrollably for several hours. At that moment, Bill knew he had received total deliverance and the word of God became alive in him. He now felt a closeness to God that he had never felt in His life. He felt lighter in his spirit.

As some days went by, Bill discovered that his fire appeared to diminish; he was no longer feeling the presence of God like he felt that Wednesday; he was now beginning to feel ordinary again. He went to Pastor Felix and explained to Him. Pastor Felix immediately understood what Bill was talking about and began to teach Him some truths: “You need to learn how to stay filled with the Spirit at all times, it begins with an acknowledgment that your life is empty without the presence of the Holy Spirit; that without Him, you can do nothing” Pastor Felix opened Ephesians 5 and began to explain from verse 18 how to stay filled with the Spirit (to be continued).

Go into today knowing that God’s presence is the air your spirit breaths. Without Him, you can do nothing. The more you thirst and seek His presence, the more you receive.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please teach me to stay filled with your presence always, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Dwelling in Christ Part 1

Broadcast 4026
Click here for the audio version:

John 15:5(NKJV) "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Three years after Bill had accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, he still was not baptized in the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, this did not bother him because the only difference he believed it made was that it caused people to speak in tongues; something he didn’t particularly look forward to. But Bill couldn’t be more wrong. He was lacking the fullness of His new life because he was never filled with the Holy Spirit.

Bill often wondered what people who prayed for up to an hour were saying for so long. He would get bored and even sleep off if he tried to pray for more than ten minutes. Bill never enjoyed fellowship with the Lord because he was not yet filled with the Holy Spirit. This was the primary reason why Bill experienced so many demonic attacks.

The reason why many Christians do not enjoy the full benefits of their salvation is because they are not dwelling in Christ. The thing about dwelling in Christ is that He will also dwell in you, and He dwells in you through His Holy Spirit. He lives in you so that you may live in Him. Anyone who is baptized in the Holy Spirit and stays filled with the Holy Spirit will experience this.

Go into today determining to be filled with the Holy Spirit at all times. If you are a Christian and you are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit, it is time for you to make this your top priority.

Prayer: thank you Lord because you are my baptizer. Heavenly Father, I ask for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Wisdom application

Broadcast 4025
Click here for the audio version:

Proverbs 15:20 (NET) A wise child brings joy to his father, but a foolish person despises his mother.

Dayo was sent to learn to be an auto mechanic. His master in the trade was not as educated as he was, but he was very skilled. Dayo applied all his heart to the trade and became excellent in a very short while. His father in the trade was glad to see how fast he was learning. But there came a time when Dayo became even more skilled than his master. He would know what to do when they are challenged with very difficult situations that even his father in trade couldn’t solve. But Dayo was a wise young man. He continued to treat his master with even more respect, and he made it clear to everyone that he knew all he knew because his master chose to show all he knew. Dayo was a continual source of Joy to his master until it was time for him to leave to start up his own workshop. His master was quite sad because he was losing his most skilled and most trusted son in the trade. He blessed Dayo with all his heart and released him to go into the world to prosper in the trade. That was exactly what Dayo did.

Today’s Bible text looks most appropriate for the family setting, but it is equally applicable in instances such as the one mentioned above. One of the ways to know if you are wise is to check if you bring joy or sorrow to those who have helped you and contributed to making you who you are today.

As you go into today, remember that God has called us to be wise and not foolish, to be meek and not conceited.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to make you even more wise from today. Amen.

The door and the thief

Broadcast 4023

John 10:1(AMP) I ASSURE you, most solemnly I tell you, he who does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way (elsewhere, from some other quarter) is a thief and a robber.

When Suzan went to visit a soothsayer, he held her hand and told her things that were to happen to her. He also told her in precise detail what she had gone through in the past. Unknown to Suzan, the familiar spirit, that she came in contact with through that encounter with the sorcerer stole something from her. The spiritual substance the spirit stole from her can best be described as life. She discovered that after that encounter, she always had reason to come back to visit the soothsayer because she became more sickly and unfortunate.

Jesus tells us in today’s Bible verse that anyone who does not come through the door is a thief. He later went on to explain in verse 9 that He is the door. So this means anyone who does not come through Him is a thief.

In John 14:6, Jesus says “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father except through me”.

Any other way through which humans contact the spirit and divine realm is illegal. The only proper way through which man can contact these realms is through Christ Jesus. If you do so with the aid of any spirit that is not the spirit of Christ, you will be impoverished of spiritual life (by that spirit).

Go into today knowing that Jesus has come to give and restore life to you, He alone gives abundant life.

Prayer: Thank the Lord for being the good Shepherd who gives you life. Ask for grace to walk in the fullness of this life; to walk in in power, prosperity, divine health, etc. Amen.

The Ministry of Angels

Broadcast 4022
Click here for the audio version:
Hebrews 1:14 (NIV) Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
After fasting all day and being really tired, a man was driving between two towns in the northern part of Nigeria when he had a flat tire. He was in the middle of the wilderness with no human settlement in sight. Two young men approached him and offered to change his tire; he was so glad and gave them some money when they finished changing it. While he was driving away from them, he looked into his rear mirror to observe them as many thoughts flooded his mind about these very nice men in the middle of the wilderness. “Where did they come from and how come they speak such fluent English?” he thought as he looked in his rear mirror, but he couldn’t find them anymore. They had literally disappeared. He also saw the money he gave them back in the place where he took it. This is a true story.

Angels minister to those who will inherit salvation, whether they are born again at the time or not. How much more so when you are born again. The Bible tells us that the angel of the Lord encamps around them that fear Him (see Psa 34:7). These angels could also physically manifest themselves if the need arises.

Go into today knowing that you are not alone in this world and you can never ever be forsaken in this life because God who controls angels and the entire universe is on your side.

Prayer: thank you Lord for this day. Thank you for your great love for me. I pray you help me walk always in your will for me. Amen.

Luke 15:13 (KJV) And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

Every child at some point has loved something his or her parents did not like. However, parents will correct their children when they are wrong, but will not disown them. As a matter of fact, parents consciously and unconsciously train their children to become like them. A child is therefore a product of the strengths and weaknesses of his parents.

God, like our earthly parents, will not disown us because we do wrong, however, he will correct us until we become like Him. The gravity of the correction may vary from light to heavy. For example, the prodigal son suffered hunger and lack and worked as a servant for a while. Jonah stayed three days in the belly of a fish; Jacob served twenty-one years for what God would have given him for free.

Do you know that disobedience usually leads to punishment? Many have achieved little, others lived a short life and so many are struggling without progress because they disobey God. Thankfully, God has kept you alive so you can repent and turn back to Him. If you will turn to God in repentance, He will welcome you with a feast.

Go into today knowing that God has not given up on you. You may have missed it, but when you turn back to Him, you will find Him ever ready to welcome you with a feast.

Prayer: make a prayer of repentance if you have missed it. Pray for your brothers and sisters who want to return to God.

Getting Answered Prayers

Broadcast 4021

John 15:16 (KJV) Ye have not chosen me but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

While preparing a sermon some days back, I tried to list some of the factors responsible for unanswered prayers. There are a couple of them and they include sins, doubts, praying amiss, unforgiveness, and lack of persistence or consistency in prayer. One prime factor emphasized in the Old Testament was sin. In the New Testament, Jesus also laid emphasis on faith deficiency and doubts being hindrances. Also, in today’s Bible text, Jesus says that when we bear fruit and our fruit remains, we will have answers to our prayers. Unfruitfulness creates a hindrance to our prayers. Unfruitfulness is when we are not producing the fruit of the spirit as children of God (see Gal 5:22-23). The fruit of the spirit has to do with Christian character; how do we treat people? Christians are to be people of faith and people of Character.

Fruitfulness also has to do with being faithful in the assignment the Lord has given you in the kingdom; you do not exist just to meet your needs here on earth.

Go into the world today with a determination to be fruitful as you do the things of the kingdom.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, help me to take the business of God's kingdom more seriously, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen

The Hope of our calling

Broadcast 4020

Ephesians 1:18(KJV) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints...
A lot has been said and written about faith and love, but not as much about Hope. We all understand that if a person loses his faith, he has lost his spiritual life. And we also understand that if a person does not have love, it is a sign that he does not have faith in the first place because faith in God will always produce love. Out of the three dominant Christian attributes (faith, hope, and love) mentioned in 1 Cor 13:13, hope is the least talked about.

It is because of hope that we continue to have faith. One of the most important things God gives to us is hope. He does this by giving us the Holy Spirit who guarantees our inheritance. The Holy Spirit also causes us to experience a foretaste of the things to come.

The sad reality today is that many Christians have managed to survive eliminating the hope of our calling from their minds. They do not really look forward to the resurrection of the dead because they have been tricked into focusing on this present life and not on the kingdom. They forget that the best this present world order has to offer is but shadows when compared with what we will get when our bodies have been redeemed into the likeness of Christ.

Go into today remembering the hope of your calling into God’s kingdom. God is making sons in the image of Christ. This God’s grand design will be fully actualized when in the resurrection, we are changed to become exactly as Christ is. See 1 John 3:2.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you never lose sight of the hope of His calling.

The Love of the Father

Broadcast 4019
Click here for the audio version:

2 Corinthians 13:14 (KJV) The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Amaka lived a dry, uneventful, and beggarly Christian life because she did not truly understand the love of God. Indeed, she knew that ‘God loves us so much’, but she had not come to experience and have the revelation of God’s love for her. The reason for this was that she did not fully understand the grace of God. She had received a gospel watered down with the doctrine of works for righteousness. She did not fully understand the grace of the Lord Jesus.

It is worthy of note that in today’s Bible text, the grace of the Lord was mentioned first, before the love of the Father? I believe this is because you cannot fully experience and understand the love of the Father if you have not had a revelation of the grace of Christ Jesus. This revelation ultimately leads to repentance and new birth into God’s family.

When we understand that though Christ was rich, for our sakes he stripped himself of His divine glory and became poor, so that through His poverty, we too can be made rich like He was in glory, we have started to understand His grace(2 Cor 8:9). When you have this revelation, you will understand that all you receive from the father is at Christ’s expense, not at your expense. You will then be able to understand and experience the fathering Love of God. You will now know that you have a Father in heaven who cares for you and is very interested in the details of your life. This Father wants you to fulfill your destiny more than you want to.

Go into today asking the Lord to reveal the dimensions of His love to you (see Eph 3:18).
