Psalms 37:4 (KJV)“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Mr. Elijah had five children he loved very much, but everyone believed George was his favorite because he always gave George the things he desired, even at times when he would say "no" to others. It wasn’t that he loved his other children less than he loved George, but he was more fond of George.
Of all his children, George was the one who delighted in him the most. For example, George would run the fastest and scream the loudest with joy whenever his father came home from work. George also loved spending time with his dad the most. Because George delighted in his dad more than the others, he understood him better and knew the kinds of things he liked and disliked. Consequently, he enjoyed more favor from his dad.
When a child of God delights himself in the Lord, it means he loves the presence of God and the word/law of the Lord. The word of the Lord is the clearest expression of the nature of the Lord to us, offering us the opportunity to know His ways and become more like Him. The more we become like Him, the more our desires align with His, and we see them fulfilled by Him. People can grow in favor with God(see Luke 2:52), and this is often because of their desires and delights.
Go into today remembering that delighting yourself in the Lord will manifest in your desire to know Him more and become like Him. Those who delight themselves in the Lord will find that they are continually transformed into the nature and likeness of the Lord (this is the definition of fruitfulness). This is the ultimate secret to answered prayers (see John 15:16).
