The Blessed Hope

Romans 8:22-23 (NET) "For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers together until now. Not only this, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we eagerly await our adoption, the redemption of our bodies."

Whenever you hear of an earthquake, a tsunami, or a volcanic eruption, it is a sign that creation is groaning and suffering. Whenever you struggle to pray, struggle to meditate on God's Word, or struggle with the flesh, it is a sign that you too are groaning. God didn't make us to struggle; God created us to enter into His rest.

The firstfruits of the Spirit are manifestations of the Holy Spirit within us. When a believer begins to interface with the power of the Holy Spirit, he would immediately realize that there is much more for him in God, but he would also realize that there is a great hindrance to walking in these realities.

It takes a level of spiritual maturity and walk with the Spirit to realize that our spirits are groaning in expectation of something. Very much like the way a woman in labor groans in expectation. But what is this expectation for which creation and believers who have the firstfruits of the Spirit await in groaning? It is the resurrection of the dead. This is when mortality shall put on immortality. This is when our bodies would be changed to glorious bodies that cannot die, grow old, or decay. These bodies have the capacity to reveal our true nature as sons of God. When the resurrection happens, creation too would be set free from its bondage of corruption. This earth would begin to work properly and would be able to relate with man according to the original design. During the millennial reign of Christ and the saints on this earth, the earth would know such peace and harmony that has never been experienced. We would take charge of every territory on earth and bring peace to the nations.

Go into today with the hope of our calling sure in your heart. When the Lord returns, the dead in Christ shall rise first, then those who are alive and remain in Him would also resurrect into the glorious body that can manifest the glory and power of God in ways our minds are too limited to fully comprehend right now.

For The Joy

Hebrews 12:2 (KJV): "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

God's eternal plan is to establish His kingdom both in heaven and on earth. Scriptures make us understand in Revelation 21:1 that even after this present earth passes away, a new heaven and earth will come, one in which Christ and all the saints will rule forever.

Scripture says in 1 John 3:2-3: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." This should make you joyful. You are going to be like Christ. Mortality shall put on immortality, and life shall swallow up death forever. Our flesh shall be celestial, not this terrestrial that perishes; this corruptible shall put on incorruptible (1 Corinthians 15:53). Glory to God!

So for this joy, for this kind of majestic life, for the glory that shall be revealed in us, and for the hope that we have of being like Jesus, we purify ourselves as He is pure. Hallelujah! We allow God's Word that is spoken to us to wash away every impurity in us, for we are cleansed by the Word that is spoken to us (John 15:3). We give free course to God's Word to reproof, correct, and instruct us in righteousness, thereby becoming perfect and prepared for good works at all times, as we await His glorious appearing (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Hallelujah!

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for the joy that is set before me to reign with Jesus for eternity. And for this joy, I purify myself through the instrumentality of Your Word and Spirit that You have made available for me. I will be presented in Your glorious presence at Your coming, by Your Spirit, perfect and without blemish, to enter into Your joy. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The faith of the believer

Broadcast 4076
Click here for the audio version:

Romans 8:11 (NET): "Moreover if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit who lives in you."

Martha had lived her life in fear of the dark spiritual forces in her village. When she became born a believer in Christ Jesus, one of the first things she learned was that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and there was no power in hell that could stop Him from resurrecting.

When she understood that the very same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now lived within her, she was no longer afraid of the dark spiritual forces in her village. She knew she now had power over them. As time passed, she became a real terror to them. Her faith now produced such spiritual power that none of them could resist; she who used to be terrorized became the one now terrorizing them.

All the while she was afraid of the dark spiritual forces and was even terrorized by them after believing, she had the Holy Spirit living within her, but she didn’t have the faith required to reveal His mighty power.

Every attribute of the divine nature that you have received in your spirit will have to be revealed through faith. Even your righteousness is revealed by faith (see Rom 1:17). This means you have to first believe that you are now righteous, and then this faith produces the physical manifestation of your righteousness. In the same way, you have to first believe that you have been healed, and this faith will produce the physical manifestation of your healing, etc.

Go into today remembering to believe and confess everything you have in Christ Jesus (see 2 Cor 4:13).

Prayer: Thank God for giving you all things in Christ (2 Pet 1:3).

Predestination 2

Broadcast 4075
Click here for the audio version:
Romans 8:30 (KJV): "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"
A rich, generous king prepared a big banquet and was kind enough to invite all the nobles and honorable people in his kingdom. But unfortunately, they all despised his invitation and made it clear that they were not coming. Because of this, he extended his invitation to everyone else—the commoners were now invited. Everyone else was now to be part of the banquet (see Matthew 22:1-14).

Salvation was initially for the Jews (see John 4:22). They were the noble people of the earth because they were the nation separated unto God from their inception. But the door was opened to the Gentiles because the Jews rejected the call of God (see Romans 11:12). This was demonstrated in the fact that they were the ones who gave the Lord over to be crucified. But God was aware of all this. It played into His eternal plan to save not only the Jews but the whole world.

Today, many are called, and we can see from today's Scripture that it is those who have been predestined that are called. But we also see in Matthew 22:14 that out of the many called, few are chosen. Our response to the call is what will determine whether we are chosen. Because man has free will, the fact that he was predestined and called does not automatically mean that he will be chosen. We have to respond to the call.

For those of us who have responded to the call of God to become conformed to the image of His dear Son, we need to continue in our conviction to the end (Hebrews 10:23). Let's not allow distractions, pressures, and cares of this life to hinder us from being fruitful. Let us endure to the end so that we would receive our crown and not be ashamed when our Lord appears.

Go into today remembering that God's got you. Your salvation was planned from the foundation of the world. Your life is not a coincidence and all things are working together for your good because you love God and are called according to His purpose.

Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for choosing me before I knew anything. I ask that you help me walk worthy of this glorious call and please you in all regards. Amen.

Predestination

Broadcast 4074
Click here for the audio version:
Romans 8:29 (NET): "because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
The doctrine of predestination is probably one of the most misunderstood. Some people think it means there are individuals who cannot be saved because they were not predestined to be so. But that is not true. God wants all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9). Jesus did not die for the sins of only the predestined, but for the sins of the whole world.

Others say predestination means nothing, believing we are all products of our choices and are ultimately the masters of our destinies. This is also not entirely true.

Our limited minds may not be able to fully comprehend the dynamics of predestination right now, just like the concept of eternal life may be difficult to wrap our minds around. God's realm of eternity is quite different from time. When things happen in time, it is because they have already happened in eternity, but if they fail to happen in time, they cease to exist in eternity. That's why people's names can be erased from the Book of Life (see Revelation 3:5, 22:19, Exodus 32:32-33), even though names were written there from the foundation of the world (see Revelation 13:8).

So important is this realm of time that God invested Himself in His fullness into it. In Christ Jesus (the resurrected Christ) dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily (see Colossians 2:9). Things that exist in everlasting dimensions in eternity can be scaled into time. The three distinct persons of the Godhead came together and said, "Let us make man in our image." One man in the image of three persons. That should give a picture of the relationship between eternity and time. Yet the things on the earth are only sketches and patterns of the things in the spirit realm (see Hebrews 9:23). Here lies the shadow, there the reality.

This should make us sober because decisions that may look trivial here in time have eternal ramifications of unimaginable magnitude. When Adam sinned by "simply" eating the forbidden fruit, he probably did not know how much damage this caused in the realms. It took God becoming a man to remedy the damage. The things in the heavens were also defiled and needed to be cleansed because of sin committed on the earth (see Hebrews 9:23).

If a person believes in Christ, it may look like a momentary decision, but it has eternal ramifications.

This space is not even sufficient for us to establish a brief foundation for the doctrine of predestination. But if there's anything you should take from today's study concerning predestination, it is that God does not do anything He never planned to do. He is never taken unawares by happenings. He is in control of everything. You can rest in this knowledge.

Go into today with this prayer: Lord God, thank you for the awesome privilege of being created in your image. Please help me walk worthy of my calling and please you in all things. Amen.

Maturity and The Blessing

Ephesians 4:14 (NET): "So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes."

Sandra had a challenge that really troubled her. She was a believer and had certain spiritual gifts, but this challenge proved stubborn. After praying and fasting for months over the issue, she decided to meet her discipler concerning it. He got a prophetic insight into the problem and prayed for her from that standpoint, and the problem was solved. Sandra’s discipler could pray once and solve a problem she had battled for months because through spiritual maturity, he walked in more spiritual might and authority than her.

Sandra knew it was time for her to become spiritually mature and stable.

One attribute of spiritually mature believers is the willingness to give. Babies don’t give anything or contribute anything to the family; they only know how to take. But when babies grow to become responsible adults, they begin to give to their parents and not just take.

There are believers who give to the work of God, but only because they believe that is a way to get more out of God. This is the same ‘take-take’ mentality of spiritual babes.

The spiritually mature give because of love. They give because they know they are blessed [with all blessings in heavenly places], not primarily because they want to be blessed. Spiritually mature believers are stable and are not blown about by every wind of doctrine. They don’t give impulsively because someone promised a breakthrough in return. They give purposefully and cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7) because they see a need and desire to meet it, honor God by giving to His ministers and ministries, and honor God by giving to their parents (both physical and spiritual).

Go into today knowing that your spiritual maturity is determined by your actions. Renounce every way and conduct of spiritual infancy, and you will begin to see the fruits of maturity in your life. The fruits of maturity include spiritual stability, walking in spiritual might and authority, etc.

Prayer: Lord, help me renounce childish ways and grow into the fullness of your will. Amen.

The Believer's Hope

Broadcast 4072
Click here for the audio version:
Colossians 1:5 (NET): "Your faith and love have arisen from the hope laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard about in the message of truth, the gospel."

When the gospel was first preached to the people in Colossae, they were told about the hope of their calling. They understood that they were now part of an eternal kingdom that will soon be made visible to every eye. They understood that they were going to be resurrected with the kind of body that Christ possesses right now (Philippians 3:21)—a body that makes it possible for Him to partake in the realms of heaven and earth (spiritual and physical realms), for Jesus ascended bodily into heaven. This body could never be destroyed and would reveal our true unlimited nature as sons of God (see Romans 8:23 in the AMP version).

In this body, we would have the power to easily and naturally speak to literal mountains and command them to move into the ocean. We would not need to study books to have the deepest knowledge of things, for we would know all things, including the secrets of the universe.

When Jesus physically returns to this world with His saints (Jude 1:14), we would literally take over the governments of this world, rule over the world, and judge both people and angels (see 1 Corinthians 6:2-3). We would be irresistible because we would come with glorified indestructible bodies with unlimited power.

This is a brief summary of the hope laid up for you as a believer. Anyone who has this hope purifies himself (read 1 John 3:2-3).

Many believers do not understand the hope that they have been called into, and their faith wanes because they limit their hope to earthly expectations.

Go into today remembering that you are part of God’s eternal kingdom if you believe in Christ Jesus.

Kingdom Approach To Work 2

Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV): "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."
Because of Grace’s experience before and after her attitudinal change toward work, she now took it upon herself to enlighten those who were caught up in her past mistake. Sandra was one of those she shared her story with. However, Sandra did not listen to Grace because, unlike Grace, she never had a struggle with finances. "If God is not pleased with me, why is He blessing me?" she thought.

If you are like Sandra, who seems to have enjoyed being blessed despite unfaithfulness to work, remember that the ultimate reason for your job is not just to earn money; you are there as Christ's ambassador.

Philippians 2:14-15 (KJV): "Do all things without murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world."

It is by being blameless and harmless that you tell the world that you are a son of God. It is by these virtues that you will be able to shine as light and correct the wrongs in your workplace.

Go into today knowing that God is aware of the perversion in your workplace and has sent you there to shine as light.

Pray this way: Lord, I will shine your light in my workplace by following your precepts for work. In Jesus' name, amen.

Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV): "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

After working with a government establishment for twenty years, Grace continued to struggle financially. She was very committed to prayers, evangelism, and other church activities but was lackadaisical with her job, and this was the general attitude of her coworkers too. They would often say, "It’s government work, I cannot kill myself for it."

Grace had received all her due promotions when they were due, but things were very tight for her financially. Her frustration led her to seek counsel from her pastor who, by the word of knowledge, told her that her attitude toward her job had been a hindrance to her financial freedom. Grace turned over a new leaf and began to do her work as to the Lord, putting her best effort into her job. After she changed her attitude, her financial struggles ended. She received wisdom to better manage her resources, and new financial doors opened for her.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 (KJV) says, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might..." and in Philippians 2:14-15 (KJV), we are to, "Do all things without murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world."

If you are a child of God, you must do all your work as to the Lord. This is how you will be distinguished from the perverse and crooked coworkers among whom you are to shine as light. Your workplace is a platform for evangelism.

Go into today knowing that God is the one who rewards you when your work is done as unto Him.

Prayer Confession: I will do my work as to the Lord and shine as God's light in my workplace in Jesus' name. Amen.

Growing In the Knowledge of God

Broadcast 4069

Colossians 1:9-10 (NET): "For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may live worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects - bearing fruit in every good deed, growing in the knowledge of God."

Mitch observed that whenever his roommate slept in the room, he did not have the terrible nightmares and demonic attacks that had now become part of his adult life. Even though he was now a believer, he knew that his roommate walked in greater spiritual authority. He found out that this was because his roommate had a more robust relationship with the Lord.

The last part of today's Bible text makes it clear that it is possible for a believer to grow in the knowledge of God. This growth is the secret of manifesting great spiritual power. This is the secret of multiplied grace that makes us manifest the divine life in this present world (2 Peter 1:2-3).

We also see that it is possible for us to be fruitful in every good work. God wants you to be fruitful in every good area of your life. Living worthily of the Lord is the most important fruitfulness, as it enables you to have a robust relationship with God and grow in His grace and mighty power. Remember that the fruit of the Spirit affects the way you live.

Being fruitful in every area is only possible when you are filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Go into today remembering that the knowledge of God’s will is received when you pay attention to His word.

Go for understanding 4

Broadcast 4068
Click here for the audio version:
Proverbs 4:7-8 (KJV): "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her."

Aarav became five times more successful in his business when he started running it according to the principles of God's kingdom. At first, it seemed as if he would not make as much profit because he reduced his interest rates and improved his quality of service. It looked as if he was committing business suicide, but with time, he established himself as the most trusted name in that business in his city. No one had the volume of turnover that he had, and he started making more profit than those with ungodly interest rates.

Yesterday we saw that the true definition of walking in wisdom is walking in the will of God (see Ephesians 5:17). Those who seek the will of God in all things are those who seek to walk wisely in all things. Every foolish decision I have ever made in my life was because I did not consider the will of God as the top priority in that decision-making process.

If you truly seek the will of God as the top priority of your life, you will find it, if you seek it with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 says (KJV): "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

It takes faith to connect with the will of God and see the wisdom therein. Faith provides better sight than natural sight, which is why we should walk by faith and not by sight (see 2 Corinthians 5:7). When walking in faith, patience is required. Hebrews 6:12 (KJV): "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

Go into today determined to walk in the will of God as your top priority. Remember that wisdom is the principal thing, and walking in the will of God is the way to walk wisely.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to exalt Your will and walk wisely all the days of my life. Amen.

Ephesians 5:17 (NET) For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord’s will is.

Aarav read all the psychology books about marriage he could find because he wanted to have a successful marriage. But he found that all his knowledge (and its application) was not strong enough to save his marriage. Things became too mechanical, and the marriage was heading for a crash.

When he accepted Christ, he sought and discovered God's will concerning marriage. He realized and understood true love. He found that by simply loving his wife and being the head (through sacrifice and not by manipulation or coercion), his marriage became much better and sweeter.

He came to discover that walking in God's will is wiser than the best of human wisdom.

Wisdom can be defined as the right application of knowledge to achieve set goals. But the best of human knowledge sometimes proves insufficient to solve the real issues of life (because many have spiritual roots). The wisest thing for a person is to understand the will of God concerning things and walk in it. Walking in the will of God produces great spiritual power.

Understanding is a function of the human spirit (see Job 32:8). It takes a regenerated human spirit to understand the will of God. When a person accepts the Lordship of Christ Jesus, his spirit is born again [after God's nature] and now has the ability to understand God's will. God has His will concerning every area of life. With the help of the Word and the Holy Spirit, we can understand God's will, and walking in God's will is the true definition of wisdom.

We are eternal beings; we will all be alive and conscious in the next millions and billions of years. Many decisions made outside of the will of God may look wise within the context of time [under the sun], but they would end up being revealed as very foolish decisions when seen from an eternal perspective. The only way we can truly walk wisely is to seek to understand the will of the Lord and walk in it.

Go into today with a renewed desire to understand God's will concerning every area of your life. This is the key to walking in eternal wisdom.

Proverbs 4:7 (KJV): "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me walk wisely in life by understanding Your will in all areas of life. Amen.

The power of fellowship 2

Hebrews 10:23-25 (NLT): "Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near."

After Sharon graduated from university and got a very good job, she became so busy that she no longer had much time for her fellowship with the Lord and with brethren. She didn't realize that this was draining her spiritually until she traveled with her family to the village for Christmas and found that she was now being afflicted in her dreams—something that used to happen to her when she was a little girl before she accepted the Lordship of Christ Jesus.

When she got back to the city, she determined that she was not going to continue to run after everything else but God. She started waiting on the Lord in prayer and fasting. She began having long prayers with her friends over the phone daily and became more serious about finding a church that upholds the truth of God's Word because the church she was attending in the city was just a "feel-good" church with very little spiritual substance. Most of her colleagues who were workers in that church were fornicators, and she knew this.

Many believers backslide when they change environments because they are not diligent in maintaining their spiritual disciplines, which may not fit into their new environment. Believers who continue to grow are those who value their Christian fellowship and fight to maintain it. Today, we are in an age of information technology—let's take advantage of it. With conference calls, it is easy to maintain fellowship and prayer meetings with your brethren (of the same spirit) even if you are far away from each other.

Go into today remembering that your company matters a lot. That's why God has commanded us not to neglect the fellowship of our brethren. Much life and power are generated when believers who love the Lord and each other gather together under His authority.

Prayer: Father Lord, please help me not to neglect the fellowship of my brethren. Strengthen me with might in the inner man by Your Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen.

I remember having a conversation with a backslidden brother who argued with me about the definition of fornication. He tried to convince me that if two people have agreed to marry each other and become intimate, they are not committing fornication because marriage is about consent. I tried to show him from scripture that while marriage involves consent, a lady is given in marriage by the constituted [spiritual] authority over her. She does not give herself in marriage; her father or someone occupying that position in her life is the one who gives her in marriage.

My conversation with this brother (whom the Lord is now restoring) opened my eyes to an important issue I had not properly considered: sexual immorality is a major source of stumbling for many believers, but little is said about it in many church assemblies. Many have gotten into trouble in this area because of carelessness in small things. I remember having to instruct one of my mentees to never be alone with a sister when she visits.

God's will for us as believers is that we become holy. Nothing hinders this more than sexual immorality. Fleeing sexual immorality is not a suggestion for believers; it is an instruction. If we are to continue living and excelling spiritually, we must put to death the works of the flesh (see Romans 8:13), and the first on that list is sexual immorality (see Galatians 5:19).

We live in a world that is increasingly sensual. Temptations are everywhere, but remember that where sin abounds, grace abounds much more. Grace empowers us to resist sin and teaches us how to deny worldly lusts (Titus 2:11-12). For example, grace would teach an unmarried young man not to tell a lady he does not intend to marry that he loves her.

Go into today asking the Lord for grace to stand firm in this area. This grace is received by faith. You have to believe that you can stand and stay pure.

Prayer: I expel and resist every latent influence of the spirits of immorality. I walk in holiness and inherit God's promises. Amen (2 Corinthians 7:1).

Go for Understanding

Broadcast 4064
Click here for the audio version:
Ephesians 5:17 (NET): "For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord’s will is."

Lara was a very fruitful believer because she was truly wise. In every place she found herself, she first sought to understand God's will for sending her there. Then she would properly manage her time and resources to ensure that she fulfilled God's purpose for her being there. This was why she was never found wasting time on things that were not essential to fulfilling her purpose in any location she found herself.

Unfortunately, not many believers are like Lara. It is possible to be a believer and yet remain foolish because of a lack of spiritual understanding. Today's Bible verse is directed to believers, instructing them not to be foolish but to be wise. We also see from the verse that the way to be wise is to understand what the Lord's will is. It is one thing to know the will of the Lord, but it is another to understand it. For example, a person may know that lying is not the will of God, but he walks in divine wisdom when he understands that his tongue is one of the powerful assets that God has given him, and telling lies diminishes the power of his tongue to decree things and see them come to pass.

Go into today remembering that the secret to walking in divine wisdom in any area is understanding God's will in that area. "In all your getting, get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7).

Prayer: Lord, help me understand your will for me in every situation and walk in it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Power of Fellowship

Broadcast 4063

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)  "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

Biodun became really lonely because his friends had left him. He was now "too born again" for them, and the only friend who didn’t leave stayed around because of Biodun’s money, and Biodun knew this. Biodun decided that it was time to make new friends, but he found that he wasn’t connecting with many of the brethren he had met. They saw life quite differently.

He decided to pray about this: he asked the Lord to link him with people who would help him grow. The next morning, he went to church. The minister preached on evangelism and encouraged everyone in the church to be actively involved in making disciples. Biodun knew that the message was for him. He decided that he was going to make disciples for the Lord according to His command (see Matthew 28:19). The first day he left his house to evangelize in his neighborhood, he met some youth corps members and evangelized to them. Three among them believed. They were honored to be close to Biodun because he was a very successful person. Biodun scheduled a Bible study meeting with them, and they all came promptly. They also brought their friends.

They would pick a book (such as those by Watchman Nee or Kenneth Hagin) and read certain chapters, and they would discuss it in their Bible study meetings (there was always food at the Bible study). Many of them had questions. If the questions were difficult for Biodun to answer, they would go to church to ask their pastor.

Your faith as a believer thrives in the community of believers. Fellowship is very important in Christianity (Acts 2:42). We thrive in fellowship and community; that’s the way God designed it. Even God exists in a community—the Trinity.

If you find yourself in a place where there are no disciples of Christ for you to fellowship with, make disciples (Mark 16:15, Matt 28:19).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please give me the grace to make disciples everywhere you place me. Amen.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV): "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
When it became clear to Biodun that he was unstable spiritually because his friends were unbelievers, he decided he was going to leave them. This was a very difficult thing for him to do because he and his friends were very close. But Biodun knew he would never grow spiritually if he continued with his old friends.

He decided that his identity in Christ was now going to determine the flow of all his conversations and relationships. This was also hard to do, but he remembered that he was a new creature and old things had passed away (2 Cor 5:17). He remembered that he now had a new citizenship in heaven and was to be defined by this citizenship (Phil 3:20). He also remembered that nothing was too big to forsake for the sake of Christ and the Kingdom.

As his conversation changed and it became clear to his friends that the old Biodun was now dead, many of them were the ones who left. They were not interested in being friends with this new Biodun.

Many believers find it hard to leave their old friends and old life because they do not realize that what they have in Christ is far better. In order to experience the new life, the old life has to die. For except a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone. But when it dies, germinates, and grows, it becomes much better than a lowly dying grain.

Go into today remembering that in order for you to experience the new great life in Christ, the old life of sin has to die.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to remove everything hindering your light from shining.

The Double-Minded Person

Broadcast 4061
Click here for the audio version:

James 1:7-8 (NET): "For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a double-minded individual, unstable in all his ways."

Biodun observed that he would be full of faith one moment but totally faithless the next. Just like the waves of the sea that rise and fall, his faith in God rose and fell because he was still controlled by his flesh, even though he was sometimes controlled by the Spirit. He found out that his weakness was coming from his unequal yoke with unbelievers.

Faith is spiritual, but unbelief is fleshly. Whenever you are dominated by the Spirit, you will walk by faith. But if you fall back to the flesh, you will walk by sight and not by faith.

The problem with a double-minded person is that this state of heart affects every area of his life. He would behave like Christ today but act like an unbeliever tomorrow. Because the righteousness of God is revealed by faith (Rom 1:17), if a person's faith is unstable, he would constantly swing from walking in righteousness to walking in the flesh. He may have to resort to legalism in order to keep the outward show of righteousness and may find it more convenient to stay in legalism that produces inferior human righteousness that counts as filthy rags before God.

In the spirit realm, man's clothing is righteousness (Isaiah 61:10). He is either clothed in the glorious garment of God's righteousness or clothed in the filthy garment of iniquity or his own righteousness. No one appears before God and receives from Him wearing filthy rags. He must first receive a change of garment (see Zech 3:3-5) and keep it on by faith.

Go into today remembering that consistent believing is the way to receive from God. One way unbelief enters is when we are unequally yoked together with unbelievers (2 Cor 6:14).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please break every limiting yoke of unbelief in my life. Amen.

Don’t Waste Your Mornings

Broadcast 4060
Click here for the audio version:

Psalms 5:3 (ESV): “O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch."

How do you begin your day? What are the first thoughts that flood your mind when you open your eyes in the morning? What are those things that keep you in bed and draw your attention whenever you awaken? There are hungers and avoidances that draw our hearts and attention every morning. Pastor John Piper categorizes them as novelty hunger, ego hunger, entertainment hunger, boredom avoidance, responsibility avoidance, and hardship avoidance. But there is a better way to begin the day. It will take some planning and discipline.

What we want in the morning is to be filled with the Spirit of God. We want something that will give us a zeal for the glory of Christ for the day’s work. We want to be strengthened to face whatever the day may bring. We want to go into the day filled with righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost and extend these to others around us. That is the real agenda to pursue in the morning.

Let the first thing out of your mouth in the morning be a cry to God, telling Him how much you love and need Him. Let God be the first to hear your voice in the morning before all others. Then prepare a sacrifice, which is your body. Dedicate your body afresh to Him this morning and watch. Watch and wait in expectation because He will show up for you in the course of your day.

Pray with the Psalmist: O Lord, in the morning you will hear my voice; in the morning I will pray to you and watch for your answer.

False Doctrines: Guard Your Heart 2

Broadcast 4059
Click here for the audio version:
1 Timothy 1:5 (NET) But the aim of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.

After Jake left that campus fellowship, he started looking for another fellowship to join himself to because he understood that being part of a Christian fellowship on campus was essential to his spiritual well-being.

From time to time, Jake came in contact with certain brethren who were genuine. Unlike most believers he met who were worldly, their faith in Christ was sincere and he could discern this. He started observing that many of these sincere brethren were members of a particular campus fellowship. This was how he knew where he was to join himself.

Because Jake prayed to the Lord for direction concerning what fellowship to join, the Lord answered his prayer by giving him the wisdom to discern brethren and understand that every sound fellowship would have sound brethren.

At the end of the teachings, exegesis, falling under the anointing, miraculous manifestations, etc, what sound doctrine and fellowship should produce in believers is Love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith(see Bible Text above).

A believer who is spiritually healthy would be filled with pure love for his brethren and charity for the world. Impure love is "do me I do you" love. It is a love that is based on an expectation of reward.

It is not possible to have a good conscience when you have bad conduct. Only sincere faith can produce pure love and a good conscience.

Go into today knowing that Faith which is predicated on material gain is not sincere. Every faith is a substance of things hoped for. If the hope of a person's faith begins and ends with financial and material settlement in this world, his faith cannot be sincere, and it is only sincere faith that can produce pure love and a good conscience.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, purify my motives and desires. Let my faith be pure and sincere. Amen.

False Doctrines: Guard Your Heart

Broadcast 4058
Click here for the audio version:

1 Timothy 1:3-4 (NET) As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not to spread false teachings,
nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan that operates by faith.

When Jide got to the campus, he started attending one of the campus fellowships reputed to be deep in the teaching of the word. But after a few weeks, he found that even though his head was full of very interesting and high-sounding things, his heart was empty and his spirit lean.
The teachers in that fellowship were given to [spooky] doctrines filled with speculations and logical inferences that didn't align with the position of scripture. Many of the members of that fellowship were excited that they knew 'deep things', but because Jide had walked with the Lord and enjoyed the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (and the attendant growth) in an atmosphere of sound doctrine in the past, it didn't take him long to discern that something was wrong with his new spiritual diet and fellowship. He had to leave that fellowship.

When Apostle Paul wrote 1 Timothy, there were false doctrines circulating that sounded very powerful and logical, but they didn't have the ability to produce faith unto fruitfulness but rather produced pride and weakness.

False doctrines have been around since the first-generation church. Unfortunately, many of them are spread by genuine believers who have not been properly taught but who have a zeal to teach. If believers dwell in them for long, they would produce nothing but leanness to their souls and make them puffed up rather than being built up. Sooner or later, when the storms and pressures of life come, such would be reduced to their real small size and might be crushed because they were not being built up but were being puffed up [like bread or puff-puff]. A crushed believer would have a shipwreck of faith. We would talk about this later.

Go into today remembering that sound doctrine produces faith and love in the heart of the believer, and builds him up(see 1 Timothy 1:5). False doctrines only give knowledge that puffs up (and produces pride). Be sensitive to doctrines you allow to enter your heart because the issues of life come out of it.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Give me this day my daily bread(doctrine). Deliver me from the lure of false doctrines. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Spirit and Character of Christ 2

Broadcast 4057
Click here for the audio version:
Romans 8:9 (NET) You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him.

After Zoe believed in the Lord and was baptized in the Holy Spirit, she was empowered to learn of Christ and receive His Spirit(become like Christ in character and nature). But because she was distracted by the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches, she did not remain in the Lord but went back to the world. Two years passed and certain bad things happened to her that brought her back to the Lord in tears and repentance. At this point, she knew that even though the gifts of the spirit she received the day she was baptized still remained, she was not safe because she didn't have the Spirit[and character] of Christ.

The Holy Spirit we have received [as a gift] empowers us to walk in the Spirit and nature of Christ. It is possible to refuse to yield to the Holy Spirit and go back to the world. The gifts of the Spirit may remain and manifest if we know how to work them, but they are no guarantee that we belong to Christ.

On the last day, many will appear before the Lord and think that because they have received the power of the Holy Spirit and gifts, they would be qualified to enter the kingdom, but many who did not cooperate with the Holy Spirit to birth the spirit and nature of Christ in them would be sorely disappointed. Here's what the Lord says will happen: Matthew 7:22-23(KJV) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Go into today remembering that what God looks out for is our fruits. The Spirit [and character] of Christ is the real proof that we have truly been born of God.

Romans 8:9 (NET) You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him.

Tony accepted the Lord Jesus in a neighborhood house fellowship. Because the leader of the fellowship sensed that Tony needed to be ministered to for deliverance, he told Tony to wait behind and be ministered to. That day, Tony was delivered of demonic possession and was also baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. His heart was so filled with joy that it was evident to his friends and neighbors that "something has changed about Tony".

Tony had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit but he needed to learn of Christ and become like Christ. This is what is called discipleship. The indwelling Holy Spirit within him changed his appetites and gave him a desire for the word and presence of God.

Even though Tony received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, if he does not continue to abide in Christ and bring forth fruit, he would be as a branch cast out and trampled underfoot of men(John 15:6, Matthew 5:13).

After believing in the Lord Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit, it is important we grow and walk in the spirit(Character) of Christ because it is only those who have the spirit of Christ that belong to Him.

Go into today remembering that it is not just those that say “Lord, Lord”, but those that do the will of God are those who will enter the kingdom of heaven(see Matthew 7:21). If Jesus is truly your Lord, then you will do His will.

Prayer: Father, help me abide in Christ and be fruitful. Help me live a life that is ruled by Your will, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Baptism and the Conscience

Broadcast 4055
Click here for the audio version:
Acts 2:38-39 (NET) Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

After Olamide accepted that all her sins had been forgiven and the deep-rooted guilt in her heart was washed away, she received the gift of the Holy Spirit and started to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave her utterance. She had believed in the Lord for several years but just could not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This was because of some level of guilt she still retained in her conscience. This was dealt with through the miracle of water baptism.

You will see that in today's Bible verse, Apostle Peter tells the people to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, and then they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Many have been able to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit even before they were baptized in water because they believed that their sins had been forgiven and they got rid of all deep-rooted guilt in their consciences after they believed. This was usually easier for the Gentiles because they did not have an elaborate consciousness of sin like the Jews who had the law. But many others have found that their consciences received the required freedom needed for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit after they were baptized in water. Indeed, the baptism of the Holy Spirit has come to some immediately after their baptism in water. That was the case with our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:16).

In 1 Peter, we see that water baptism is a pledge [or answer] of a good conscience to God. There is clearly a connection between it and the conscience. 1 Peter says:

"And baptism, which is a figure [of their deliverance], does now also save you [from inward questionings and fears], not by the removing of outward body filth [bathing], but by [providing you with] the answer of a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God [because you are demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 3:21 AMPC.

Go into today remembering that you cannot walk in the fullness of the Spirit [and your spiritual gifts] if your conscience is still weighed down by any level of guilt. Deal with the guilt in your conscience through the water (the word of God) and the blood (remembering and depending on the sacrifice of Christ), and you will receive an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in a new measure.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from all guilt so I may walk in the fullness of the Spirit. Amen.

The Spirit Filled Life

Broadcast 4054
Click here for the audio version:

Philippians 4:8 (NET) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

After Olamide was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, she felt so much joy and liberty in her heart that she determined to do everything it took to stay filled with the Holy Spirit at all times. She had read teachings about being filled with the spirit several times but she wanted a practical guide to actually walk in a spirit-filled life. She realized that what she allowed to dwell in her mind was key to controlling the mood of her heart. Today's Bible verse became a guide for her.

I have come to notice that a heavy and depressed countenance does not engender a spirit-filled life. If you put on the television or read the newspaper, you will notice that most of the news there will attempt to take away your joy and send you to a mood of depression or sadness. It is good to be informed by the news, but guard your heart and don't let it control your countenance.

If you ponder on the behavior of many people you have to deal with (even certain Christians), you will realize that being joyful does not come naturally. But we are instructed to "rejoice in the Lord always" (see Philippians 4:4). The spirit-filled life is a joy-filled life (read Ephesians 5:19-21). This is not because there are no sorrows in the world or things that can keep us depressed and moody, but because the presence of God the Holy Spirit within us is bigger than anything that is happening outside us. What we focus on will determine the outcomes of our lives.

Today's Bible verse instructs us on the things we should ponder upon. l long on thoughts that do not inspire thanksgiving and praise. Discipline your mind to always find the good in every situation and dwell on it. Find a reason to give thanks in all things because this is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus.

Go into today remembering that the Spirit-filled life is a joy and thanksgiving-filled life. You cannot control the Holy Spirit, but you control what your mind ponders on which in turn controls your mood and determines whether you will be Spirit-filled or not.

Prayer: Lord, help me lead a spirit-filled life, In Jesus' name. Amen.

How do we treat each other 2

Broadcast 4053
Click here for the audio version:
1 Corinthians 8:2-3 (NET): "But if someone loves God, he is known by God."

Mrs. Anderson was determined to help her late friend's children in any way she could. She even sold one of her cars to send two of them to the university.

Before her friend and her husband died in a motor accident, Mrs. Anderson didn’t really know their children. She had only seen their pictures and knew their ages. The love she poured on those children after they lost their parents was because of the love she had for her friend.

One thing the Holy Spirit does in the heart of any true believer is to plant the love of God there (see Romans 5:5). This love manifests in the way we treat God's children. It cannot be hidden.

A person cannot truly know God without loving God. Knowing God is to love God.

God’s love is contagious and it compels us to love others (2 Corinthians 5:14, 1 John 4:19). It compels us to obey His commandments and restrains us from fleshly excesses.

Anyone who does not love God does not truly know Him. The more we grow in the knowledge of God, the more we love Him and want to please Him.

Those who do not care about how the Lord feels do not really know and love Him. Those who do not love God do not know God and are not known by God.

On judgment day, some will be told by the Lord, "I never knew you" (see Matthew 7:23). They would think the Lord knew them because they once said Jesus is their Lord, but they did not truly know Him and love Him. This was evident in the way they lived their lives in lawlessness.

In 1 Corinthians 16:22 (NET), Apostle Paul uses these strong words: "Let anyone who has no love for the Lord be accursed." Why would he use such strong language for someone who could be a member of the church? Because any member of that church who did not love the Lord was not one of the fold. He was most likely a wolf in sheep's clothing. And we know what wolves do to sheep.

Go into today remembering that those who love God obey Him. And all things work together for the good of those who love God (see Romans 8:28).

1 Corinthians 8:12 (NET) If you sin against your brothers or sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Liza observed that she was going through a season of spiritual dryness. She couldn't understand why this was happening because, as far as she knew, she did everything right. She kept to her Bible study and prayer schedule, was faithful in her donations to the church, etc. However, she noticed that her prayer time was becoming dry and unexciting. It felt as if the Holy Spirit didn't show up anymore to empower her to pray.

After struggling with this for days, she became particularly concerned. "Lord, what is wrong? Why am I not experiencing Your fellowship like before?" she prayed.

As soon as she prayed this, she felt the presence of the Lord again. She immediately knew that something was wrong. Moments later, she received a text message from one of her Christian sisters. This message detailed how hurt and offended the sister was by the way Liza had treated her.

Liza immediately understood that the problem was her sin against the Lord in the way she had treated this sister. She promptly repented.

Jesus is deeply concerned about how we treat each other as Christians. Every Christian you interact with is not just your sister or brother but also a child of God, whom the heavenly Father jealously cares for. It is particularly damaging when more mature believers do things that become a stumbling block for weaker believers (see Mark 9:42).

Many believers have blocked the heavens above them because of the way they have treated their Christian brethren.

Go into today remembering that God watches the way we treat each other as a measure of our faithfulness and love. If you truly love God, it will show in the way you treat His people. See Matthew 25:35-40 and 1 John 4:20.

Stand Unmovable

1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Evelyn first noticed the change in Frank when she spent some time with him at his office. She noticed how glib and economical with the truth he had become. It was then that she began to look back in retrospect and began to clearly see that for some time now, Frank was beginning to nurse an unhealthy drive for material wealth. The thing was, Frank had changed church some two years ago from the church where he grew up and got saved to a new place where an unscriptural and undue emphasis was made on wealth.

Ephesians 4:14 talks about the effect of the wind of doctrines on the immature believer. False teachings and wrong doctrines provide very slippery slopes that can trip up the undiscerning believer. This is because what a man believes affects his conduct and actions. A believer who has been receiving teachings that make light of walking in righteousness will not find it very difficult to begin to house and harbor a girlfriend in sin and shame, but still be very committed to church.

So to stand unmovable, one of the key things to consider is the doctrine/teaching you are receiving. It was in 2 Timothy 3:16 that it was stated that all scriptures are inspired of God and are profitable for doctrine. Sound doctrine takes into account all the counsel of the scriptures, being careful to emphasize what the scriptures emphasize. Whenever we begin to cherry-pick and run off with just a portion of scriptures, we can run into error and drift from the life and call to which we have been called.

False doctrines are dangerous to the health and growth of a believer’s walk with the Lord. The Bible is replete with warnings against false doctrines. Don’t handle with kid gloves what the scriptures treated with seriousness. Pay attention to what you hear, and grow into maturity so you no longer be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Be unmovable.

Go into today determined to value and heed sound doctrine and remain steadfast in the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, help me stand steady and unmovable. Give me an aversion to false doctrine, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

John 8:31-32 (NET) Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, 'If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Bolaji observed that in his family, every man was a chronic womanizer. His father left his mother for another woman because of this. His grandfather did the same, but only returned to his wife when he became very sick and his lovers deserted him. His father tried to return to his mother when he too became very sick, but his mother wouldn’t accept him back.

Even though Bolaji was born again and happily married, he observed that a feeling of discontentment towards his wife and a strong lust for other women started growing within his heart. It didn’t take him long to realize that the same demon that led his grandfather and father astray was now on his case. He knew this was a family curse when he started having symptoms of the same disease that killed his father and grandfather. He had prayed and fasted for many days, but as soon as his fasting ended, the lust came back.

The Lord revealed to him that he had to change his belief concerning certain things if he wanted to walk in spiritual liberty. His life and worldview were not shaped by the word of God because he wasn’t devoted to the ministry of the word enough. He primarily saw himself through the lens of the culture he was born into, not through the lens of God's kingdom culture. He would say things like: "I was a Yoruba man before I became a Christian." His earthly culture and tradition always took preeminence over God's word and kingdom values when there was a contradiction.

Every believer in Christ has a heritage of blessings rather than curses (see Ephesians 1:3), and should walk in total freedom. But this freedom is appropriated through our knowledge of the truth. It was to those who believed in Him that Jesus said ‘you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’ (see John 8:31-32).

Christ sets us free through our knowledge of the truth revealed by the word of God we know and believe. For example, those who still believe they are under ancestral curses, rather than believing God’s truth concerning them, never truly experience freedom.

Go into today changing what you believe according to the truth of God’s word concerning you.

Confession: I am filled with the knowledge of God’s will and walking in the blessing (see Col 1:9-10).
