2 Corinthians 13:5 (NET): "Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test!"

Briana: Gloria, why are you always filled with joy despite everything happening around us and in this country? It’s like you don’t have any problems at all. Please tell me your secret. I want to have the hope and peace that you have.

Gloria: The Lord is my source of peace. My hope is not tied to this world but to the Kingdom of God, which will soon reign over this world. I have an inheritance in that Kingdom, and its power is already at work in me. That’s why I have hope and joy. Even if things don’t improve in this country or the world, my peace isn’t affected because my portion is not tied to this present world.

One way to examine if you are still in the faith is to see if your heart is filled with the blessed hope of the Lord’s return and the glory that will be revealed in us (Titus 2:13). This hope keeps us holy and focused on doing the Lord’s will, knowing He will reward us (Titus 2:13-14, 1 John 3:3, Revelation 22:12). The Holy Spirit reminds us of these truths, keeping us in a state of joyful expectation because we are children of God.

If Christ no longer lives in a person, they will lose all hope. Christ in us is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). This hope is why we have joy and peace, no matter what we face, because we know we are more than conquerors through Christ. In the end, we win. The devil has no power over our inheritance in Christ. That’s why, regardless of what the devil does, our hope remains intact, producing joy in our souls.

Remember to honor the Lord in your heart and always be ready to explain the hope you possess (1 Peter 3:15). Regular self-examination and guarding against the cares of this life will help preserve the blessed hope you have in Christ.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for doing more for me than I could ever imagine. Help me remain in your love and bask in your peace. Let me never forget the purpose for which you have called me. Amen.
