Philippians 2:5-8 (NET) "You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had, who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!"
While studying humility, and realizing it is the strongest attribute of Christ’s nature as pointed out in scripture (see Matthew 11:29, Philippians 2:5-8), I found myself asking the Lord why so much emphasis is placed on this subject. The answer became clear when I remembered that pride was one of the things that transformed the angel Lucifer into Satan. Pride entered his heart, and iniquity was found in him (Ezekiel 28:14-17).
One of the deepest roots of iniquity is pride, while its opposite, humility, is a foundation of righteousness.
As powerful as God is, He is humble. We are called to be like God, not like the devil (see 1 Peter 1:16). Pride is a root of iniquity, and the Lord opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5-6). Anyone who walks in pride finds themselves walking under the resistance of heaven—a dangerous place to be.
Do you want to live under the blessings of heaven? Do you desire your prayers to be answered even before you utter them? Then seek true humility. I believe one reason Moses had such great power with God was because he was the most humble man on earth in his time (see Numbers 12:3).
Go into today with the determination to be like Jesus in your heart. Humility is the strongest attribute of Christ’s nature.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you resist all forms of pride and give you grace to be more humble and gentle (see Ephesians 4:2).
