Philippians 4:6-7 (NET)“Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Rhoda was now 30 years old and still unmarried. Her mother constantly reminded her that time was running out, saying things like, “You’re almost past the flower of your age!” Friends and family often added to the pressure, offering unsolicited advice or pitying glances.
But Rhoda had learned the secret of handling anxiety: taking everything to God in prayer. Each time worry tried to creep into her heart, she would spend time in prayer, pouring out her concerns to the Lord and thanking Him for His goodness. As she did this, a deep peace always replaced her fears.
Instead of being weighed down by anxiety, Rhoda radiated joy and confidence. She became known for her cheerful and calm demeanor, even in the face of life's challenges. This inner peace and positivity made her personality magnetic. It was this quality that caught the attention of Chuka, a successful and God-fearing businessman. Chuka had seen many accomplished women, but something about Rhoda stood out. Her joy and unshakable peace drew him in. He later admitted, “I wanted the joy I saw in her to be part of my home.” He eventually asked her to marry him, and their union became a testimony of God's faithfulness.
Anxiety and heaviness are spiritual weights that hinder the flow of God's grace and blessings. That’s why the Lord commands us to “be anxious for nothing.” The best way to overcome anxiety is through consistent prayer and thanksgiving. When we truly trust God with our concerns, His peace—one that defies human understanding—will fill our hearts and minds.
One way to know you’ve “prayed through” is when the anxiety in your heart is replaced by God's peace. It’s a sign that you’ve surrendered the matter into His capable hands.
Go into today determined to live a life that radiates the joy and peace of the Lord. Ask Him to help you cast all your cares on Him, knowing He cares for you (Psalm 55:22).
