Revelation and Spiritual Growth

Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV)That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.

Sedric had always been sure of one thing: he was baptized in the Holy Spirit, evidenced by his ability to speak in tongues. Yet, for years, he yearned for something deeper—a tangible walk in the power of God. To him, it seemed that speaking in tongues was the only fruit of his baptism. Frustrated yet determined, he sought accountability and discipleship from Brendan, an older and spiritually mature believer.

Brendan took Sedric under his wing, not just mentoring him but interceding for him daily. He prayed fervently, asking God to open Sedric’s understanding so he could grasp what had already been freely given to him in Christ. Over time, Sedric’s spiritual eyes were enlightened, and he began to walk in the power of God—not just in miraculous deeds, but in living a holy life and doing exploits for God’s kingdom.

In God’s kingdom, many blessings and truths are accessed through revelation. Without revelational knowledge, a believer may have access to divine resources yet fail to appropriate them. This is why Apostle Paul continually prayed for the Ephesians, asking God to grant them wisdom and revelation to understand His expectations, their identity in Christ, and the boundless riches of His power available to them.

Reflection: Are there areas in your life where you feel spiritually stagnant? Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the riches of what God has freely given to you in Christ.

Prayer: Lord, grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Enlighten my understanding that I may fully walk in the riches of Your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
