Death to the old nature

Broadcast 4275

Colossians 3:5-6 (NET) "So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry. Because of these things, the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience."
Fola was struggling with persistent afflictions in her body, and she couldn’t understand why they continued. In desperation, she cried to the Lord for help. One Saturday morning, Pastor Clara felt led to visit and pray for Fola. However, before praying, Pastor Clara felt prompted to ask Fola some probing questions. Through their conversation, it became clear that, despite being very active in church, Fola was still living a lifestyle inconsistent with her faith. Her unrepentant sin was the root cause of her affliction.

Convicted, Fola confessed her sins to Pastor Clara. After she prayed for Fola and anointed her with oil, Fola experienced healing, fulfilling the promise in James 5:13-16.

The reason believers are called to "put to death whatever in [their] nature belongs to the earth" is to avoid being partakers of the wrath of God, which is reserved for the sons of disobedience. Many believers suffer unnecessarily because they live in ways that do not reflect their new nature in Christ.

This does not mean that the righteous will never face affliction. The key difference is that the Lord promises to deliver the righteous out of their troubles (Psalm 34:19).

Go into today determined to mortify everything in your life that does not align with the nature of Christ. Ask the Lord to strengthen you for this task and to help you walk in His righteousness.

The Thing About Horses

Broadcast 4274
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): www.streamglobe.org/aud4274
Psalms 33:17 (KJV) A horse is a vain thing for safety: neither can he deliver any by his great strength.

In ancient and medieval times, horses were a critical tool of war. With horses, soldiers could move quickly on the battlefield and cover vast distances. This made surprise attacks easy to achieve, as well as rapid deployments and swift retreats. The point is, horses made warfare more effective, such that an army with more horses and chariots was considered to have an advantage over its enemies.

God has no issues with horses. A horse is (or was) a legitimate tool of warfare, just as a job is a legitimate tool for provision, and medical science and doctors are legitimate tools for healthcare. The point of our text today is to address a grave error that even believers can sometimes make: substituting the provision for the Provider.

Horses are beneficial, they have their legitimate use, and when put in their proper place, they are a blessing. However, they were never designed to become the thing in which a man should repose his trust and hope. See how the Psalmist captures it elsewhere: Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God (Psalms 20:7). Here, there is a contrast between trusting in horses and chariots as opposed to trusting in the Lord.

This brings to mind the case of Asa. Early in his reign, he faced a strong army with 300 chariots, and it was never mentioned that Asa had any. However, here’s what Asa did: Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you” (2 Chronicles 14:11).

Much later in his reign, when another mighty army came against him, Asa did not turn to the Lord but instead sought help from a king with a large army. Here was the Lord’s verdict:
At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand” (2 Chronicles 16:7-8).

Pay attention to the word “rely.” In the first instance, Asa relied on the Lord and trusted in His help. In the second instance, he relied on the help of a king with a large army, and God said, “Your allegiance has shifted from Me.”

Go into today knowing that God is our provider, protector, and preserver. Make up your mind to thank Him for horses, but to never make them your source of hope and confidence. That should be reserved for the Lord and for Him alone.

The Right Use of the Will

Broadcast 4273
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): www.streamglobe.org/aud4273
1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

After a grueling day at work, Joy noticed a persistent ache in her joints. Exhausted, she barely managed to drive home, longing for rest. She took a warm shower and went straight to bed, hoping the pain would subside. The next morning, Joy felt slightly better and decided to go to work. However, as the day wore on, the pain worsened, making her tasks increasingly difficult. She realized she couldn’t ignore it any longer. Acting on wisdom, she visited a doctor, received the necessary treatment, and recovered fully before the condition worsened.

Joy’s experience mirrors the spiritual journey many believers face. Just as Joy recognized the need to seek help when her physical condition deteriorated, we too must recognize the importance of seeking help when we notice spiritual weaknesses or recurring struggles. Ignoring them or attempting to fight through them alone often leads to greater harm.

As children of God, we are not victims of circumstances or spiritual forces beyond our control. If we stumble into sin, it is because we have chosen to ignore God’s provision for escape. His faithfulness ensures that no temptation is beyond what we can endure. He always provides a way out—we only need to seek it. If we feel too weak to overcome on our own, the simplest act we can take is to cry out for help.

God assures us in Psalm 50:15 (NASB): “Call upon Me on the day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honor Me.”

Struggling with sin or spiritual weakness is not uncommon, but ignoring it or trying to handle it in isolation is not the solution. Just as Joy sought help from a doctor to address her physical ailment, believers must seek God’s help and, where necessary, counsel and support from fellow believers to overcome spiritual challenges.

Go into today with this assurance: God’s faithfulness never fails. No matter the temptation or struggle, He will provide a way of escape and the strength to overcome. Your part is to trust Him and take action—whether that means seeking His help in prayer[and fasting] or leaning on the support of those God has placed in your life.

The need for discipleship 2

Broadcast 4272

John 21:15 (KJV) "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs."
After Larry submitted himself to discipleship, he became accountable to his discipler, who prayerfully monitored his spiritual progress.

The first day his discipler visited him at his house, he noticed that Larry’s room was decorated with pictures of indecently dressed female pop stars. He also observed that most of Larry’s music collection was not spiritually edifying. His discipler took the time to explain that the environment Larry created around himself was very important and that the pictures on his wall were not appropriate for a Spirit-filled child of God. Even though some of those autographed pictures had cost Larry a lot of money to acquire, he willingly removed and destroyed them. He also got rid of all the music that was not spiritually edifying.

His discipler spent time in his house that day. They ate together, studied the Word of God, and prayed. Larry had many questions and incorrect assumptions, but his discipler patiently answered his questions and corrected his misunderstandings.

Larry and his discipler continued to meet regularly, talk on the phone, and pray together. Over time, Larry noticed that his interaction with his discipler made him much stronger spiritually. Eventually, Larry also became a soul-winner and discipler.

Discipleship is the means by which more mature believers feed the Lord’s lambs (newborn believers). Those who truly love the Lord will be involved in this ministry. Many have fallen away from the faith, not because they did not truly believe, but because no one took the time to disciple them.

Go into today remembering that if you truly love the Lord, you will take care of His lambs by being involved in the ministry of discipleship.

The need for discipleship

Broadcast 4271
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): www.streamglobe.org/aud4271

Matthew 28:19 (NET) "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."
After Larry accepted Christ, he realized that he no longer desired to live as a sinner. But as time passed, he saw that this desire alone was not strong enough to keep him from falling back into his old sinful habits. Each time he fell, he felt uneasy because he knew he was not acting in accordance with his new nature. He understood that he had received a new nature in Christ but needed to learn how to let this new nature dominate him instead of the old one. After discussing his challenges with the person who led him to Christ, it became clear to him that he needed to submit himself to discipleship.

Discipleship is God’s educational system for training believers to walk in their new nature through the renewal of their minds by the Word (see Romans 12:2). Spiritually mature believers are those who are no longer carnal (dominated by the flesh) but are now led by the Spirit. These are the believers whose lives are dominated by the kingdom of God and who strive for their reward in the kingdom.

A critical aspect of discipleship is the ministry of the Word and prayer. You cannot disciple others without regularly interceding for them and teaching them the Word of God, explaining the mysteries of the kingdom to them. Without proper discipleship, new believers will remain spiritual babies and may struggle to abide in the Lord.

Go into today determined to submit yourself to proper discipleship if you are still controlled by your old nature of sin as a believer. If you are a discipler, ask the Lord to multiply His grace upon your life for this task.

Sent as a Savior, Sold as a Servant

Broadcast 4270

Psalm 105:17 (KJV) "He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom."

“How did I get here?”

Have you ever had one of those moments when prevailing circumstances suddenly make you realize how far off you seem to be from the desired future that God promised you? And what’s more, you can’t seem to pinpoint where you might have gone wrong—in fact, as far as you know, you’ve followed everything correctly.

Well, welcome to the club of many great Bible patriarchs (and matriarchs).

Mary, for example, was greeted by an angel with words that could make anyone green with envy: “You are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” This was further corroborated by Elizabeth, who exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women!” But guess what? It wasn’t long before this favored Mary had to flee Bethlehem—and Israel altogether—in the middle of the night to escape Herod’s wrath. Some thirty years later, she watched as the whole nation turned against her Son and subjected Him to an excruciating death. I don’t think she felt very “favored” in those moments.

Joseph’s story wasn’t much different. He dreamt of divine grandeur and envisioned himself as a ruler, with even his brothers bowing before him. The dreams were so significant that he had them twice. Yet, for the next 13 years, he found himself thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, wrongfully accused, and imprisoned with no hope of release. Nothing seemed farther from his dreams and expectations.

Sometimes, on our journey to destiny, we pass through the most unlikely of places. These moments can leave us questioning if we are headed in the right direction or if the Lord has abandoned us. In such moments, remember the story of the one sent to deliver his people from famine, who was paradoxically sold by these same people as a slave. Even in the midst of it all, Scripture affirms again and again that “the Lord was with him.”

Don’t despair when things don’t seem to go as you expect. Keep trusting the Lord. He who has promised is faithful to bring it to pass.

Go into today with full assurance of faith that the Lord, who has promised, is faithful to keep you and to give you an expected end.

Revelation 2:19 (NIV) "I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first."

Have you ever labored and yet felt unappreciated for the efforts you have put in? Well, that kind of thing happens a lot. What makes it worse is that this often leads to discouragement. This is why many motivational and self-advancement talks emphasize that each person should learn to blow their own trumpet and toot their own horn.

This is the world’s way of responding to this issue, but it is not necessarily the right way. This approach is premised on the assumption that if you do not do it, no one will do it for you, and therefore your efforts and contributions will all go to waste, leaving you unacknowledged, unappreciated, and unrewarded.

When Jesus took the time to address letters to the seven churches in Asia in the Book of Revelation, one of the recurring themes in all of His letters was “I Know.” In a nutshell, He said to them, I know your works, your labor, your patience, your trials, your poverty, your charity, and your service. He was essentially saying to them: Your acts of service and demonstration of faithfulness have not gone unnoticed by Me.

What’s more, He knows our tears, fears, frame, and frailties. He knows what we are up against—the oppositions, contradictions, and hindrances that litter our way. He knows the limits of our strength, the extent of our abilities, and the boundaries of our endurance.

What is even more comforting is not just that He knows, but that He is working in time and through eternity to supply the help that we need. He is keeping count of our faithfulness in the midst of hard times and trouble. He is orchestrating events in our favor to provide succor and relief. He is ever-present to supply divine strength, even in the areas where we are weakest.

Every act of faithfulness counts with Him. Every whispered prayer is noted and kept. Every call for help comes before Him. It was Hagar who named a well of encounter Beer-lahai-roi, the well of “The Living One Who Sees Me.” Your painful experiences in the course of serving the Lord do not escape His notice. The Living One who knows all sees you, and He is poised to comfort you and reward you in due season.

Go into today with full assurance of faith that the Lord sees you in your labors and pain, and He who sees will intervene, deliver, and reward.

As an Oracle of God

1 Peter 4:11 (NASB) "Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
Efosa had been looking forward to Saturday, but not anymore. Two months ago, he had received a letter of invitation to be a guest minister at the Singles Weekend of Upward Flight Campus Fellowship. He was to speak on the topic “Handle My Heart with Care.” He was an alumnus of the fellowship and knew that the Singles Weekend was usually a lighthearted variety program filled with fun activities like games and more. And there lay his worry.

You see, Efosa had been praying and preparing for the program ever since he received the invitation. His notes were ready a month after. The message was going to be lighthearted, emphasizing loving consideration for the needs of others generally, and even more so in relationships. It was filled with cheerful anecdotes laced with humor. However, in the last two weeks, Efosa had felt a strong impression from the Holy Spirit that suggested God would have him take a completely different direction—one that was quite sober and somber.

Efosa struggled with the thoughts, prayed about them, and yet the impression only grew stronger. His concern was that he didn’t want to spoil the fun of the Singles Weekend, especially since his original message was a godly one with balanced substance and emphasis.

Saturday came, and Efosa was still struggling with these thoughts when it was time for him to speak. He was introduced by the Fellowship President, and as he stepped forward, he picked up the microphone, dropped his notes and Bible on the lectern, prayed, and began to speak… for God.

You see, it is a privilege of inestimable value to be given the opportunity to speak for God—and that is what we are called to do as ministers of God. The gravity of this responsibility does not diminish with frequency. From our text today, we are instructed and charged to always discharge this duty as one speaking for God and speaking the very words of God, for that is what glorifies Him.

You might have a word for every occasion, but don’t run off with it just yet. Check with the Lord to know what He wants to say in every situation, so you don’t betray the trust of the Divine by speaking your own words—even if they seem ‘good’—instead of speaking God’s word.

Go into today with a sense of gratitude and dependence on the wisdom and power of God.

Appropriating God's Grace

Broadcast 4267

1 Corinthians 1:4-5 (DARBY)"I thank my God always about you, in respect of the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus; that in everything ye have been enriched in him, in all word [of doctrine], and all knowledge."
The church in Corinth was richly blessed in every way. They excelled in spiritual gifts, lacking nothing and standing out among other churches (1 Corinthians 1:7). They experienced remarkable demonstrations of God's power, which brought growth and admiration in their city. Materially, they prospered through the grace of God (1 Corinthians 4:8). While the Apostle Paul celebrated these blessings, he was also concerned that they might focus too much on these external evidences and neglect the deeper, weightier matters of God’s kingdom.

The secret of their enrichment was their grounding in doctrine and knowledge. Paul highlighted this as the foundation of their success (see the Bible text above). With skilled teachers like Apollos, the Corinthians were well-equipped to understand and apply the riches of Christ through faith. As Scripture teaches, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17).

Whenever you see Christians walking in the fullness of God’s grace and enjoying the riches of Christ’s liberty, it is often because they have been well-taught in doctrine and have cultivated a hunger for God’s Word. On the other hand, Christians who neglect sound teaching and learning often experience spiritual poverty, oppression, and lack, which is not God’s will for His children.

Go into today remembering that every Christian is a disciple, and every disciple is a lifelong student of Christ. We are called to continually learn and grow in the Word, never graduating from the school of the Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, help me to devote myself to the ministry of the Word and prayer. Strengthen my desire to grow in Your truth and walk in the fullness of Your grace. Amen.

James 1:3-4 (NKJV) "…Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

For several years, Funke prayed fervently and trusted God for the blessing of a child. Despite her unwavering faith, the miracle she hoped for didn’t seem to come. Over time, friends and family began suggesting alternative solutions, urging her to visit a certain "baba" (a sorcerer) known for resolving similar issues. But Funke stood firm in her faith, declaring that she would wait on the Lord and not seek help from another god.

At times, doubts crept in, and Funke wondered if she might live out her days childless. Yet, she encouraged herself in the Lord, holding onto His promises. Throughout her journey, God provided her with signs and reassurances of His presence and faithfulness.

After over twenty years of marriage, Funke and her husband welcomed their first child—when she least expected it. By then, she had entered menopause and had resigned herself to trusting God completely, declaring, "Even if He slay me, I will still trust Him.” It was at this pinnacle of faith that her miracle unfolded.

In hindsight, Funke realized that her season of waiting had not been in vain. During those years, she grew spiritually and impacted countless lives. She discipled and mentored many young women, some of whom she rescued from dangerous situations, becoming a spiritual mother to many.

Faith and patience are inseparable partners (see Hebrews 6:12). One of the greatest indicators of genuine faith is the ability to wait on God without compromising. It is in this waiting that our faith is refined and strengthened.

Go into today remembering that true faith trusts God completely, even in prolonged seasons of waiting. Do not turn to shortcuts or compromises, for God’s promises are worth the wait.

Prayer: Lord, help me remain steadfast in faith, trusting You in every season of my life. Strengthen my heart to wait on You patiently. Amen.

Do not walk in the flesh 4

Broadcast 4265

Romans 8:3-4 (NET) "For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."
Walking in the Spirit is the result of believing in Christ and being properly discipled. Discipleship trains believers in the foundational principles of the faith, enabling them to live by the Spirit rather than by the flesh. Our adversary, Satan, is always searching for grounds to accuse and afflict us. However, when we walk in the Spirit, he loses any valid accusation against us. For “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).

Walking in the Spirit means living according to the divine nature, while walking in the flesh means living according to the fallen Adamic nature. God's eternal laws stem from His perfect nature. When you walk in the Spirit, you naturally fulfill the righteous requirements of His law, leaving no room for the enemy to accuse or afflict you.

Go into today with the assurance that you have been born again, equipped, and empowered to walk in the Spirit.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to reveal areas in your life where adjustments are needed so you can walk more fully in His nature.

Colossians 2:8 (NET) “Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
The Gentile Christians in Colossae faced challenges from certain Jewish teachers who insisted that their salvation was incomplete unless they embraced Judaism. These teachers persuaded some believers to observe Jewish festivals, circumcise their children, and follow traditional Jewish practices, claiming these were necessary for a complete relationship with God.

This same error subtly persists today. Some Christians believe their prayers carry more weight when offered at the Wailing Wall in Israel. Others have begun observing Jewish feasts or even participating in practices like the Passover, including animal sacrifices, under the impression that these acts carry spiritual power or significance.

As a believer in Christ, remember that the covenant you have through Jesus is far superior to any covenant a non-believing Jew has with God. The Bible declares that we have “a better covenant with better promises” (Hebrews 7:22, 8:6). You are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10). No additional traditions, rituals, or practices are needed to enhance your salvation or walk with God.

Any doctrine suggesting otherwise is not from God but aims to bring believers under the influence of worldly principles and elemental spirits. Stand firm in the liberty and completeness Christ has given you.

Take time today to thank God for making you complete in Christ Jesus. Rejoice in the freedom and fullness you have in Him, knowing that His grace is sufficient.

Romans 8:13 (NET) “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.”

Danielle was living in sin with her boyfriend despite repeated warnings from the Holy Spirit and from brethren. She justified her actions with the thought that God’s grace would always be available for her to repent. She believed she had all the time in the world to “get serious” with her faith. But with each deliberate act of disobedience, she felt a growing distance from God’s presence. Her conscience, which had once been so sharp, became increasingly dull. Eventually, she found herself spiritually cold and struggling to even believe the truth she once embraced.

Danielle’s experience is a vivid example of what it means to experience spiritual death. Romans 8:13 warns us that living according to the flesh leads to death. It’s not just physical death but a progressive spiritual decay that culminates in a shipwreck of faith. 1 Timothy 1:19 reminds us that those who reject their good conscience make shipwreck of their faith. When believers repeatedly ignore the voice of the Holy Spirit, they risk losing the sensitivity that keeps their spiritual life vibrant and effective.

The works of the flesh may seem pleasurable or inconsequential at first, but they always come at a cost. The more a believer indulges in sin, the more they weaken their ability to walk by faith and live in the Spirit. Each act of rebellion against God’s Word and His Spirit is a step further away from the abundant life that Jesus promised.

Go into today remembering that indulging in the works of the flesh is never worth the cost. Yielding to the Spirit and putting to death the deeds of the body is the pathway to life and peace. Ask the Holy Spirit for grace to walk in holiness and to remain sensitive to His leading. A victorious life in Christ is one lived in constant submission to His Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live by Your Spirit and put to death the deeds of the flesh. Keep my conscience sensitive to Your leading, and may I walk in victory every day. Amen.

Do not walk in the flesh 3

Broadcast 4262

Romans 8:14 (NKJV) "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."
Daniele’s story reminds us that being born again is the beginning of our journey, not the end. While salvation reconnects us to God, our daily choices determine whether we will live in the fullness of the life we’ve received.

Living by the Spirit requires intentionality. It involves yielding to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, meditating on God’s Word, and committing to a life of prayer and fellowship with other believers. These practices strengthen our spirit and help us mortify the deeds of the flesh.

Consider Paul’s admonition in Galatians 5:16:
"Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

Walking in the Spirit means allowing the Holy Spirit to direct every area of your life. It means saying “yes” to God’s ways, even when it’s inconvenient, and “no” to the sinful desires of the flesh. This walk is not about perfection but about persistence.

Steps to Living by the Spirit:
1. Daily Communion with God: Begin each day with prayer and Bible reading. Let God’s Word renew your mind and guide your actions.
2. Guard Your Heart: Be mindful of what you expose yourself to, whether it’s media, conversations, or relationships. These can either strengthen or weaken your spirit.
3. Stay Accountable: Surround yourself with mature believers who can encourage and guide you in your walk with Christ.
4. Rely on Grace: Understand that the power to overcome sin is not in your strength but in God’s grace working through you.

When you choose to live by the Spirit, you experience the abundant life Jesus promised (John 10:10). You grow in the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Your relationship with God deepens, and you walk in His purpose and power.

Go into today remembering that living by the Spirit is a journey of transformation. As you consistently yield to the Spirit, you’ll grow stronger in your faith, and the pull of the flesh will weaken.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me Your Spirit to guide and strengthen me. Help me to walk in the Spirit daily and put to death the deeds of the flesh. Fill me with Your grace to live a life that pleases You. Amen.

Do not walk in the flesh

Broadcast 4261
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): https://streamglobe.org/aud4261
Romans 8:13 (NET) "For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."

After Daniele accepted the Lord Jesus, she knew something had changed within her. She was alive toward God and keenly aware of His love for her. Sins she once committed without remorse now weighed heavily on her conscience.

However, Daniele continued living with her boyfriend, convincing herself that she could abstain from immorality. For two weeks, she succeeded, but eventually, she fell back into sin. This time, she felt deep sorrow for sinning against her Lord and heavenly Father. She also felt defiled and distant from God.

As weeks turned into months, Daniele didn't repent and return fully to the Lord. Over time, she noticed that she no longer felt different from her old self before she became a believer. She experienced spiritual death—separation from the vibrant life of God.

When Adam sinned against God, he experienced death—a disconnection from the life of God, as God warned (see Genesis 2:17). Fear, shame, and guilt, which are foreign to the divine nature, became his immediate companions (see Genesis 3:8-10). His nature became similar to the fallen angels who also rebelled against God and disconnected from His nature and life. For instance, the devil is a liar, and fallen humanity also lies. The devil is self-centered, and so is fallen man. These vices are not part of the divine nature but are symptoms of death—separation from God.

When we receive the Lord Jesus, we are born again and reconnected to God, brought from death to life. However, we must allow the divine nature in our spirits to dominate us and actively put to death the sinful nature of the flesh. The more we walk in the Spirit and yield to the divine nature, the more we mortify the deeds of the flesh. But if we continue to live according to the flesh, the new life we received in Christ can weaken and ultimately die.

Reflection:
Walking in the flesh is akin to drinking poison—it destroys the new man and leads to spiritual death. Walking in the Spirit, however, nourishes the divine nature and brings life.

Action Point:
Go into today determined to walk in the Spirit and put to death the deeds of the flesh. Confess any sin, repent sincerely, and trust the Holy Spirit to empower you to live in the fullness of God's life.

The god Called Mammon

Broadcast 4260
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): https://streamglobe.org/aud4260
Luke 16:13; 12:34 (KJV): "No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon… For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

When Satan first appeared to mankind, he came as a serpent, one of the beasts of the field. This subtle approach made it easier for man to engage with him, which ultimately led to the fall. Today, Satan employs the same subtlety but in a different guise—through mammon. His agenda remains unchanged: to lead people away from God.

What is Mammon?
In Luke 16:11, Jesus says:
"If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?"

Mammon refers to earthly riches. On its own, wealth is not inherently evil, but in the hands of Satan, it becomes a destructive idol.

How Does Mammon Become a God?
Mammon becomes a god through unfaithfulness. According to Merriam-Webster, to be unfaithful is to be disloyal, unreliable, or untrustworthy. Breaking this down further, “un-” means lacking, and “faith” refers to trust. Therefore, unfaithfulness can be understood as a lack of trust in God.

When a person’s trust shifts from God to earthly riches, they make mammon their god. Without realizing it, many have turned from God, allowing Satan to dominate their lives through their relentless pursuit of wealth at the expense of their spiritual growth.

Reflection:
Where is your trust today? When you place your confidence in earthly riches rather than God, you empower Satan’s influence over your life.

Action Point:
Confess any unfaithfulness in your heart and make a conscious decision to trust God with your earthly resources. Be faithful with earthly riches by using them for God’s glory, and prioritize Him above all else.

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that at times my trust has shifted from You to earthly riches. I repent of this unfaithfulness and choose to put my trust in You alone. Help me to be a faithful steward of all You have given me, and let my heart always treasure You above all else. Amen.

Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV)“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”
It is very exciting to know that God has made provision for our physical health and wellbeing if we make His Word our priority. In the passage we are considering today, “all their flesh” refers to our whole physical body, “health” also means medicine. So we see here that God has provided medicine for our whole physical body. This is very significant as we go through life, because most people will come in contact with some form of illness at some point in their lives. But for the Word of God to be effective as medicine, there’s a direction or prescription for taking it. Let’s consider four of those directions today.

1. Attend to my words or give attention to my words: When you turn to the Bible, you need to give it your total and undivided attention. Try to shut yourself off from other influences or distractions. Remember it is God speaking to you. That is not the time to look at your messages on your phone. You can’t get anything out of the bible if you approach it half-heartedly.

2. Incline your ear: That is an attitude of humility. Bow your ear. It’s an attitude that tells the Lord that you’re willing to be taught. Be humble, be teachable. For you to get the word to work in your life, you must have a desire to be taught.

3. Do not let them depart from your eyes: This refers to focus. Focus on the word of God. Don’t look partly at the bible and partly on other things because they may contradict what the bible is saying. Shut yourself in with what God is saying through the bible. Don’t be distracted. Don’t let any other influence turn you away from what God is saying.

4. Keep them in the midst of your heart: The very essence of all these is to get the word of God into your heart, the very center of human personality.

Follow these directions the way you would adhere to a doctor’s prescription and the word will be to you life and health to your whole physical body.

Liberation through the word

Psalm 119:11 (KJV) "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
After Chide accepted the Lord Jesus, he struggled to break free from his old habits and sins. When he shared his struggles with his discipler, he was advised to pray and fast regularly. While prayer and fasting helped him subdue his flesh temporarily, Chide noticed that once the fasting ended, his old tendencies would resurface. His spiritual life felt like a seesaw—strong and vibrant one day, but weak and defeated the next.

One day, Chide noticed a friend reading a book about the kingdom of God. Intrigued, he borrowed the book and started reading. For the first time, Chide gained a deeper understanding of God’s truth and His kingdom. This newfound understanding ignited his passion for the Bible, and even the Old Testament began to make sense to him. As he became a person devoted to God’s Word, Chide noticed a profound transformation. His prayers became more powerful, and he finally experienced freedom from the sins that had once held him captive. This freedom came through the knowledge of the truth.

Jesus said to those who believed in Him:
"If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32).

The most effective way to escape the grip of sin is through abiding in God’s Word. God sanctifies us through His Word, which is truth (John 17:17). The Word of God acts as spiritual water that cleanses and renews the minds of those who are born again (Ephesians 5:26).

Reflection:
Are you struggling with sin or spiritual inconsistency? Abiding in God’s Word is the key to lasting transformation. Make a commitment today to hide His Word in your heart and allow it to guide and sanctify you.

Psalm 119:9 (KJV):
"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word."

The Kingdom of God

Broadcast 4257
Click here for the audio version (with audio Bible): https://streamglobe.org/aud4257
John 3:3 (NET) Jesus replied, "I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

One of the privileges being born again affords a believer is the ability to see/recognize and understand the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is a real kingdom. Every kingdom has a sovereign and subjects. Every kingdom has territory and tariff. Every kingdom has power and dominion, every kingdom has laws and law enforcement agents, and every kingdom has penalties for disobedience and rewards for loyalty and faithfulness to the king's work.

When a person believes, he has been born with the life of God and can now inherit the kingdom of God. It is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom (Luke 12:32).

The sovereign of our Kingdom is the Lord God. We are the subjects of the kingdom. The territory of the kingdom right now is heaven (the spirit realm), and parts of the earth where we the subjects of the kingdom are planted. When the Lord returns, the earth will entirely be taken over by the kingdom (see Dan 7:27, Rev 11:15).

The currency of our kingdom is faith. And the more we submit ourselves to God (offering our bodies as living sacrifices), the more we walk in the authority of the kingdom (James 4:7). It is by the power and authority of the kingdom that we can cast out demons, speak with new tongues, heal the sick, raise the dead, and walk in divine health, etc.

Go into today remembering that God has saved you and brought you into His glorious kingdom (Col 1:13) if you are born again.

The sacrifice of praise

Hebrews 13:15 (KJV) "By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name."

Greg faced challenges far beyond what he could have imagined. Yet, even in the midst of his trials, he held firmly to the understanding that God was in control of his life. This unwavering faith gave him a calmness and confidence that stood out. Every time Greg spoke, his words revealed his hope and trust in God, a hope that many around him found hard to comprehend.

As Greg journeyed through this difficult season, continually offering praise to God, his elder brother—who had long rejected the faith—was deeply moved. Witnessing Greg's unshakable trust in God during such trying times convinced him of the reality of Jesus. Greg’s testimony became the catalyst for his brother’s salvation.

Praising God is more than singing songs or saying the right words; it is acknowledging who He is. He is the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Creator and Sovereign over all things. Nothing happens without His knowledge or outside His permission. When we speak and act with this understanding, we are offering praise to Him.

However, there are moments when circumstances may tempt us to forget who God is. If we speak or act as though our lives are controlled by others or by chance, we fail to praise Him. For instance, if a robber threatens you with a loaded gun, yet you declare with confidence that your life is in God’s hands, not the robber’s, you are offering a profound sacrifice of praise.

Life will often present situations that challenge your faith, making it seem like God is not in control. But when you choose to respond based on the truth of who God is rather than the reality of your circumstances, you are giving Him the sacrifice of praise.

Reflection:
Today, remember that praising God is about acknowledging Him for who He is—the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient Sustainer of all things. Let your words and actions reflect this truth, no matter the situation.

Watch out for fruits

Matthew 7:22-23 (NKJV)"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'"

Aishat gave her life to Christ during her time on campus. After graduating and moving into her own apartment, she sought a local church to join. The first church she attended was led by a prophet known for his remarkable gift of the word of knowledge. During her first visit, he accurately revealed certain personal details about her life and invited her for a private session.

After meeting with him twice, Aishat became uneasy about the way he behaved around her—his looks, his touches, and his overly familiar manner were inappropriate. Eventually, she discovered that he was an immoral man with several girlfriends and that his real motive was to make her one of them because of her beauty.

Thankfully, Aishat had received proper discipleship training during her campus years. She discerned the situation and wisely chose to distance herself from him.

On the day of judgment, no one will be able to deceive the Lord. Those who boast of their spiritual gifts—prophecy, miracles, or casting out demons—may mistakenly believe these works guarantee their standing before God. But Jesus makes it clear that only those who are His true disciples, who love Him, obey His commandments, and submit to His Lordship, are truly known by Him (John 14:15, 1 John 2:3). Scripture reminds us that those who love God are known by Him (1 Corinthians 8:3).

As you reflect on today’s message, remember that “by their fruits, you shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). The fruit of a person's life, seen in their character and conduct, is what truly matters (Galatians 5:22-23). Avoid submitting to the authority of any minister whose life bears bad fruit. Your walk with God and your spiritual growth should never be compromised.
