Complete in Christ

Colossians 2:8 (NET) “Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”

The Gentile Christians in Colossae faced challenges from certain Jewish teachers who insisted that their salvation was incomplete unless they embraced Judaism. These teachers persuaded some believers to observe Jewish festivals, circumcise their children, and follow traditional Jewish practices, claiming these were necessary for a complete relationship with God.

This same error subtly persists today. Some Christians believe their prayers carry more weight when offered at the Wailing Wall in Israel. Others have begun observing Jewish feasts or even participating in practices like the Passover, including animal sacrifices, under the impression that these acts carry spiritual power or significance.

As a believer in Christ, remember that the covenant you have through Jesus is far superior to any covenant a non-believing Jew has with God. The Bible declares that we have “a better covenant with better promises” (Hebrews 7:22, 8:6). You are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10). No additional traditions, rituals, or practices are needed to enhance your salvation or walk with God.

Any doctrine suggesting otherwise is not from God but aims to bring believers under the influence of worldly principles and elemental spirits. Stand firm in the liberty and completeness Christ has given you.

Take time today to thank God for making you complete in Christ Jesus. Rejoice in the freedom and fullness you have in Him, knowing that His grace is sufficient.
