Psalm 119:11 (KJV) "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."After Chide accepted the Lord Jesus, he struggled to break free from his old habits and sins. When he shared his struggles with his discipler, he was advised to pray and fast regularly. While prayer and fasting helped him subdue his flesh temporarily, Chide noticed that once the fasting ended, his old tendencies would resurface. His spiritual life felt like a seesaw—strong and vibrant one day, but weak and defeated the next.
One day, Chide noticed a friend reading a book about the kingdom of God. Intrigued, he borrowed the book and started reading. For the first time, Chide gained a deeper understanding of God’s truth and His kingdom. This newfound understanding ignited his passion for the Bible, and even the Old Testament began to make sense to him. As he became a person devoted to God’s Word, Chide noticed a profound transformation. His prayers became more powerful, and he finally experienced freedom from the sins that had once held him captive. This freedom came through the knowledge of the truth.
Jesus said to those who believed in Him:
"If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32).
The most effective way to escape the grip of sin is through abiding in God’s Word. God sanctifies us through His Word, which is truth (John 17:17). The Word of God acts as spiritual water that cleanses and renews the minds of those who are born again (Ephesians 5:26).
Reflection:
Are you struggling with sin or spiritual inconsistency? Abiding in God’s Word is the key to lasting transformation. Make a commitment today to hide His Word in your heart and allow it to guide and sanctify you.
Psalm 119:9 (KJV):
"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word."
