Hebrews 11:6 (NET) Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Ebuka’s parents were so caught up in fighting and bitterness that they never truly cared for him. When they divorced, each one sought custody of him—more out of spite for the other than any real desire to raise him. His mother won the legal battle and got custody, but soon had to send him to a boarding school because the man she wanted to remarry didn’t want a child around. She abandoned him there, leaving him with no one to pay his fees. His father, meanwhile, was too busy with his own vices—womanizing and clubbing—to care.

Growing up feeling unwanted, Ebuka found solace in his studies. He excelled, earned scholarships, and eventually became a successful doctor.

Years passed, and his parents grew old and poor. They had no other children and needed care. By then, Ebuka was a believer in Christ. Despite everything that had happened, he forgave his parents. He honored them and took care of them, not out of obligation, but because he feared the Lord and obeyed His Word (Ephesians 6:2).

This is what it means to truly have faith in God.

I used to wonder how anyone could come to God without first believing that He exists. But I now understand that it’s not just about believing God exists—it’s about how our actions reflect that belief. Faith is more than words; it’s demonstrated by how we live. As James said, faith without works is dead (James 2:26).

Go into today remembering: No one can come to God except through faith in the Lord Jesus (John 14:6). True faith in God will always lead to love and obedience. The faith that pleases God is the kind that leads us to obey His commands, just like Abraham did when he responded in faith (Hebrews 11:8).
