Matthew 10:41-42 (NET) Whoever receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. Whoever receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, he will never lose his reward.”In a certain village, one household stood out because of the extraordinary blessings they enjoyed. They prospered remarkably, becoming the object of envy among their neighbors. Yet, despite the envy, they continued to increase and flourish. The children from that family became the most successful people from the village, achieving great things both locally and internationally, and they brought light and progress to their community.
Curious about the secret behind their blessings, someone decided to investigate. It didn’t take long to discover that their grandfather played a unique role in the history of that village. He was the only one who welcomed the foreign missionaries who came with the gospel. While others were skeptical and kept their distance, he opened his home and heart to them. His house became the missionaries’ lodge, and his family were their first converts in the village.
Through his kindness and support of the missionaries, he welcomed the gospel and honored those who brought it. Without realizing it, he was positioning his family to receive a prophet’s reward. Generations later, the blessings were still evident.
The kingdom of God operates on grace but also on rewards. The way we respond to God’s grace and how we treat people—especially those who carry His message—determines the rewards we receive (see Colossians 3:24, 1 Corinthians 3:14). Even small acts of kindness done in the name of the Lord do not go unnoticed.
Go into today remembering that God is a rewarder. Live with the consciousness that your actions, especially towards those who represent Him, carry eternal significance.
Hebrews 11:6: ‘… For the one who approaches God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him’
Prayer: Lord, help me live my life in a way that pleases You, and let my actions bring rewards in this life and beyond (Revelation 22:12).
